I have ATT gear s3 frontier paired with unlocked US variant of Note 8. My trouble is with calls forwarding to watch after the bluetooth connection is lost. The Gear app is unable to setup call forwarding after the bluetooth connection is lost. I cannot believe that this issue linger from the Gear S days. I used to have Gear S with this issue (that i need to salvage on ebay), then i promptly returned Gear S2 because of the same issue ... I must be crazy buying the third iteration of the watch ... Only to discover that the call forwarding still doesn't work.
Anybody knows how to fix this issue? By the way, i do not use NumberSync because my Note 8 is non ATT branded phone, hence missing the advanced LTE services.
Anybody that has call forwarding working (call from cell phone to watch after bluetooth connection is lost)? In Gear app on my phone, in settings under "Auto call forwarding" i have the feature enabled and the "Number setting" shows my watch number ... I do not have NumberSync because my Note 8 is not ATT branded.

Works on the T-Mobile variant with no issues. T-Mobile phone and T-Mobile watch.

Is the call forwarding working on your ATT S2 3G watches? On mine sometime is working but mostly is not working. It is only working when i force it to work. What i mean with "force it" is i either turn off the Bluetooth connection on the phone or the watch and i watch the steps ... When the popup from the gear manager shows up that the phone is connected remotely, on the popup i get two buttons, "OK" and "Settings". If i press "OK" then the call forwarding works. If i do it unintentionally (really forget my phone at home or in the car), then the call forwarding fails four out of five attempts. Only once i had it forward the calls without me fiddling with settings or popups ... The ATT Gear S was the same way and i had to return it ... I was lucky that time that the manager allowed me to return it after the 14 day window. I do not want to be in the same situation (wait for the 14 day window to expire) and then wrestle with the ATT store manager ...
Any tricks or steps that i'm missing? I'm pairing it with ATT S6 Edge ... I did factory reset the phone and the watch ... In the Gear Manager "Use remote connection" is ON and "Auto call forwarding" is setup with the number of my watch and is ON. If i turn off the bluetooth on my watch, then i can receive and place calls with my watch number, so the watch sim is active ...
As of now, it seems to me that the ATT Gear S2 3G functionally is no different that the ATT Gear S 3G, which was nightmare to get it to forward calls. Just visually improved, but it seems that Samsung didn't worked out the issues with ATT on ATT's backend to iron out the kinks ...
I hope i'm wrong but i have very narrow window to test it that is working ...
I wonder if its an ATT issue, as my T-Mobile version, using a Nexus 6 phone, works perfectly, every time..
its weird that using a Samsung phone you would have issues with that..

Wait for Numbersync to start, then it wont be an issue at all. Gear S2 was supposed to launch with it, but it got delayed a bit. I am hearing next month for the role out. Then you watch will share the same phone number as your phone. Problem solved.

Is Numbersync an ATT only feature, or is that something native to the Samsung Watches?
Wondering if it will be that way on T Mobile also
thanks

The NumberSync-like feature is supported by the hardware inside the S2 3G. In Korea, a similar feature is already being utilized. The USA carriers just need to create & activate such a feature.

thanks, so it will probably depend on how many of the 3G watches get sold; if its not alot, then the carriers probably wont bother activating this feature..

Thanks. I did not know about this Numbersync. I'm afraid that the carriers here will not bother about this and besides that i will not wait for a month. I bought (and then returned it) Gear S because of the 3G modem ... I do not need a always tethered watch ... I bought Gear S2 3G with hope that Samsung and ATT worked out whatever was messed up on ATT's backend. If the watch doesn't have a 3G/LTE modem i do not need it ...
Another return it is then ...
NumberSync is specific to AT&T (it is a network service not a Samsung feature) and will let you use your primary smartphone number for both your phone and Gear S2. Other carriers have said they are working on similar services. It isn't a call forwarding solution - calls are routed to both watch and phone simultaneously and neither has to be powered on for the other to make/receive calls. Also calls from either show as the same caller ID. The call forwarding issue is odd since the commands issued to the network to start call forwarding are the same regardless of you forcing it off bluetooth.
I was having the same issue with my Gear S paired to my Note 5. When they seperated it would be random whether call forwarding turned on or whether they'd reconnect via BT when back in range. The last Note 5 update AT&T pushed out fixed it and they connect/re-connect properly 100% of the time. Here's a workaround I used that solved the problem for a short period of time. Go in to Application Manager and clear data on the Bluetooth app. It doesn't erase your devices or settings it appears to clear the cache. It worked right for a week then I'd have to reset the app again.
Hi. Ive just added the $5 wearable plan to my account, but calls are not being forwarded to the Gear S2. I have set the option in the app on my S7 Edge to forward calls when remotely connected. Here is a summary of what happens:
Devices connected via bluetooth: When I call my phone line, both the phone and Gear S2 ring, and I can take the call from either
Gear S2 in standalone mode: When I call the Gear S2 number, the watch rings
Devices remotely connected (bluetooth on phone switched off): Gear S2 says it is remotely connected, and that calls are being forwarded. However, when I call my phone line, only the phone rings rather than the Gear S2
Can anyone help resolve this issue? Both the app on my phone and the Gear S2 have the correct number for the watch. I have logged the problem with T-mobile and so am waiting for tech support to get back to me. It seems unlikely that this is a problem with the device since everything else works, and is more likely to be a network issue
Thanks
You have 2 differents phone number ?
Call forward works with 2 SIM and 2 differents phone number. You forward your phone Number to the Gear Phone number.

I have 2 different numbers: 1 for the phone and one for the gear. I have set the Gear app to forward calls, and the gear confirms that calls are being forwarded when in the remote connection state. But no calls are being forwarded - thi is my issue

If you call are forwarded your phone do not ring. If it ring, it mean that call are not forwarded.
Try to find the UUI code for forward call and tap the code on your phone app dialer pad, or use Android phone setting to forward your call. Gear app use standard code for forward but this do not work with all operator. Forward call is an operator feature and not related to one specific app (Gear manager or other)

Sounds like you have t-mobile correct? If so the phone has to be on for the phone to forward calls to the watch. If the phone is off it will not work. The way it works is if you get out of bluetooth range it will forward calls to the watch
Yes, I'm on tmobile and the phone is on. Even though I have call forwarding set in the app, maybe there is a setting on the network side? I don't want to have to manually enter codes each time I want to forward/ stop forwarding so hopefully I can resolve the issue and just use the setting in the Gear app. Thanks

well there is a setting on the watch to turn call forwarding on. Maybe you should try that but other than that i would call t-mobile thats all i have turned on and it works
I have a personal phone on Tmobile and looking to get the S2 activated to get calls from my personal number. Do I need to have the watch synced to the phone on Tmobile for this to work? I also have a work phone on AT&T that I would like to connect to get Hangouts notifications on the watch if possible and not connect to my Tmobile phone.
I have T-Mobile and recently went ahead and got the service for my Gear s2 watch. In the Gear Manager app I turned on call forwarding and indicated the new phone # of the watch and all calls forwarded to the watch if I don't pick up my phone. I don't see the field there to call forward to 2 different phone #s. You can install Gear Manager on AT&T phone(if it is Android) and make it your main phone, then enable call forwarding to your watch . Before you do the above, you would need to do "light reset" of the watch in the settings to be able to connect to another phone. <- in all of my cases, it was required when I wanted to connect my watch to another phone.
Oh I didn't know the watch has its own phone number and that the calls needed to be forwarded. I guess I thought wrong that the watch could be stand alone using my same number.

I love my Gear S3. The handsfree calling has made my life so much easier and Samsung pay is amazing. I have not taken out my wallet for a week.
My setup:
On my Galaxy S7 Edge I have AT&T grandfather plan (unlimited data and 450 minutes & pay per text).
On my Gear S3 LTE watch I have a 1GB data plan and unlimited voice & unlimited text.
My issue:
When my Gear S3 LTE watch is paired with my phone (Bluetooth or Remote connection), if someone sends me a text to my watch phone number, then I will not receive the text nor will I receive phone calls to my watch phone number.
As soon as I disconnect both Bluetooth and/or remote connection, then if someone sends me text to my watch I will receive it or if someone calls me I will receive the phone call.
This is very annoying, since I have given the watch phone number to various friends, but if my watch is connected to my phone, then any calls to my watch phone number go directly to voicemail, until that is I disconnect my phone from my watch.
how can I resolve this? Please help!
Solved!
I can't begin to explain the frustration and time I spent investigating this issue.
I spoke to more than a dozen service reps from Samsung to AT&T on the phone with various AT&T wireless stores, a visit to a AT&T device assistance store. To no avail, I heard all sorts of excuses ranging from the ridiculous to the probable.
In the end I figured it out on my own.
The issue was that when my Gear S3 Frontier LTE was connected to my Galaxy S7 Edge, then my watch would not receive any phone calls or text sent to my watch phone number . This was because the setting in Settings->Connections->Mobile Networks, if you have it set to 'Auto on/off', then the network connectivity will turn off when connected to the cell phone. When the network connectivity is off, at that point it is just a relay for your cell phone and no network connectivity means that someone calls you it goes straight to voicemail, someone text you it goes directly to a queue and your watch never receives it.
Once you set the aforementioned setting to "Always on" now you can receive phone calls and text sent directly to your watch phone number and text sent directly to your cell phone number as well.
Finally, found my answer!
Now when someone calls my cell phone number I can pick it from my watch and when someone calls my watch phone number I can pick it up from my watch. Same goes for text messages.
Hi
Have a Watch 5 Pro LTE model activated with an eSIM, paired to a Samsung S21 Ultra.
Can receive calls and have data connection via the eSIM with the phone off/out of range/Bluetooth off.
Cannot send or receive text messages independently.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Hi, I read somewhere that texts can be sent using the Google messenger app. Does your phone and watch have the same number? If not, does the watch ring when the phone receives a call and is out of BT range?
Have you checked with your provider? Because you should be able to. I will find out tomorrow, once mine arrives.
Watch rings when out of range / phone off etc. Has it's own data independent of bluetooth or WiFi.
Odd development since posting. Have managed to get Watch to send text on it's own but it uses it's own number despite the phone part having the same number as phone. Completely different number.
Completely convoluted process to make it work. If bluetooth is switch on on the watch it doesn't appear to try to connect via WiFi unless you go into the set up and connect to a network. Only way I can get it to send text independently is to totally switch off bluetooth and WiFi on the watch.
Returning the watch and hoping next one behaves better.

Hi.
Check the settings in the account of your mobile provider. vodafone, telekom, o2, whatever.
You can select which eSIM can receive and send SMS-Messages.
I am using three eSIMs and I can only select one eSIM/SIM in total to receive/send SMS with my german provider o2/telefonica.
I guess it's the same with your provider settings.
cheers
Hi Pundy
I only have one eSIM which is meant to be paired with the physical SIM used in the phone. The call and text allowance comes out of the physical SIM account but it has it's own data allowance. My provider doesn't appear to be sophisticated enough to allow the configuration you suggest.
Cheers
I just got the Watch 5 LTE and haven't set it up with an eSIM yet, but I wondered if calls and text work like they work on my Samsung Tablet, the data connection or WiFi let's the phone forward calls and texts with the "Calls and texts on other devices" program. Then it would switch to the eSIM number if the phone was turned off or offline?
