Sony z5 update. Now phone does not turn on. - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Purchased brand new Sony z5 ( E-6633) dual SIM , which was brought back from Dubai by a friend who works out there. Gave it to the mrs for christmas 2017. Great phone worked fine until a week ago when I checked to see if there were any updates available. There were at least 2 possibly 3 that the phone down loaded. These brought the phone up to date with what was available from Sony. I'm afraid I'm not sure of the version but 7.0 rings a bell.
I noticed that when touching the fingerprint scanner the phone said that the hardware was not available also there was no reception dispite standing within spitting distance of mobile phone antenna. I decided to press the power button and reset the phone in the hope to reset everything, no chance, this is where it all went down hill. The phone no longer turns on.
I have tried:
Power button.
Volume up and power button.
Volume down and power button.
Charging phone ( it was at 50% when trouble hit)
With the above button presses the red led was blinking when on charge.
Tried Xperia companion.
Then I tried short press and long press(120 sec) of the off button under SIM card cover. No joy, but what has changed now is no flashing red led when the charger is plugged in.
Also when connecting to a pc the computer does not acknowledge anything being plugged in ie mass storage device detected etc.
Can anyone explain what has happened. And options to fix it.
The phone is not rooted.
I am keen to retreave the photos and contacts etc.
Ideas so far are:
Send back to friend in Dubai which is quite involved, will probably lose photos.
Send to forensic lab to retreave photos etc. Will this damage the phone? Haven't made enquiry yet.
Go to local repair shop to flash/ repair operating system but believe this will erase photos if it works at all
Or
Ask you guys for a solution.
Hope I've given you enough info if there is anything else you need let me know.
Ps the phone had a 2gb sd card in it which was full and phone memory was at around 80 % full.
Regards Curry Monster.

HTC Fuze power button wont work.

Well my HTC Fuze works fine for about a year and half. However, idk how or why now my HTC Fuze power button on the top is not working. The only way to make it go to sleep mode if I let my phone turn of by itself in 1 min. Also, the only way to turn it on by slide the phone.
If anyone might know what cause the problem please help me.
Get xda shutdown or a similar app to turn the device off. There are a bunch of software options for putting the device to sleep, turning off the dispay, and shutting it down.
Same here but...
Same here but....
I have xda shutdown already, and when I Shutdown the phone it turn on again by itself.
I'm having the same exact problem! My Fuze has worked great for two years and all of a sudden a few days ago, the power button wont work. And my battery drains like crazy! It'll only last me 4 hours max... Any fixes on this? I've scoured the net and have seen that people have similar problems as this before; however, I haven't seen any fixes on it yet......
Possible solution power button problem Touch pro/Fuze?
I had the same problem on my Touch Pro, but now my power button seems to work again. I thought the problem might have to do something with my sim or my sd-card. The possibility of the sim as root of the problem was mentioned on this forum somewhere. The micro-sd card was just a guess. I had a lot of programs installed directly on the card, so when I did a hard-reset, these were still on there. If the problem would be on the micro-sd card, a hard reset would not help.
What I did was this. I removed the micro-sd card, the battery and the sim. I just pulled them out, since I wasn't able to turn the device off properly.
After that I only put back the battery and the device turned on automatically or I did it with the reset button on the bottom of my tp (I don't remember). Of course it showed the missing sim icon on top of the screen when turned on. The power button still didn't function at this moment.
I was a bit disappointed and inserted the sim, micro-sd card and battery again (I believe in this order). Lately, because of the power button problem, my tp turned on once the battery was inserted but this time it didn't. So I was pissed off that now my device wouldn't even turn on.
But to my surprise I could turn my tp on with te power button. Right now I can use the button just like before, it works fine!
Because I only tried this a few minutes ago I cannot tell you anything about the battery drain some of you and I experienced. And ofcourse I can't tell you if this is this is a permanent fix. I'm afraid to do a reset right now
I don't know why this worked for me and if it will work for you, but you can at least give it a shot right?
In short, what I did was this:
Pull out battery, sim and micro-sd card
Put back in the battery
Device will turn on automatically or turn on device with a reset (it will show the missing sim icon on top of screen)
Wait untill device is turned on properly
Pull out battery
Insert sim, micro-sd card and battery again
Turn on device with power button
If it won't work, maybe you can change the order of removing/inserting battery, sim and micro-sd card.
Good luck!
I was shocked to find a thread here of exactly the same issue I have, on the first page :O Few months back the power button stopped working altogether, so I resorted to using AEButton Plus to map double end call as the suspend power button, but now I have the issue of not being able to turn my phone off as whenever I do, the phone just turns itself back on again! At first I thought it was an issue with the internal mechanisms of the hardware button itself being jammed in place, but after reading this thread I'm starting to have doubts. I also experienced the battery drain problem with the phone rarely lasting 6 hours in standby, although a recent hard-reset and it shows that the battery drainage is around 170mAh with the screen on.
Been trying the above solution but to no avail ;( the phone keeps turning on by itself whenever I insert the battery, no matter the order.
All seems to you all have a HARDWARE problem.
Did you talking/using your PDA on rain/snow?
Maybe it make a some kind of short circuit?
Probobly the best way is carry your PDA to a service...
Yeah I've been pretty sure it's a hardware problem. I've hard-resetted and reflashed different ROMs and yet the problem persists. I don't remember getting the TP wet at all, but who knows. I don't know of any HTC service centers around here (Brisbane, Australia), so I've been looking for a way to fix this myself. No luck yet.
If you have skills to open Touch Pro you can probably do it at home.
Probably you must change flex:

This is not my item, I just simply shows how it looks this item.
I had the same problem.
My solution seems a bit unorthodox but it has always worked for me.
Slide your phone open, and flip it so it is facing screen down. You will see there is space between the power button and the phone. Put your mouth near that opening and breathe for 30 seconds to a minute. If the power button isn't working by the next day, repeat the process. The condensation from your breath does..well...something. And presto chango, it works again. The power button issue has happened about 3 times to me and doing this has always fixed it without fail.

And then people say that the phone had no contact with the water... :/

[Q] Display / Timeout Problem

Hi there,
I'm having an issue with the my XT720 and hopefully someone can help, or has at least seen something similar. When the phone goes unused for a minute and the screen times out, I can not get it to come back on as expected. If I press the power button, the lights under the four buttons power on, but the screen stays off, and both the screen and buttons don't respond to being touched (ie no noise, no feedback, nothing). If I hold the power button down, it will not stop or start, and I have to do a battery pull (the phone has not been rooted). If I press the power button to lock the phone manually, it can come back to life, but not after a timeout.
This started happening when I replaced the sd card that was included with a new one. I've had occasional issues where it will decide that I don't have an sd card inserted (also fixed by a few battery pulls), so I figured time to get a new / faster sd card. The new one has worked fine in my PC to store data, but once I put it in the phone, this happens.
If I switch back to the old sd card, the screen problem goes away. I've tried formatting the sd card from the phone (as well as from my pc), and it doesn't help.
Any ideas or input is appreciated.
Thanks,
Brandon
I had a similar unpredictable problem. I'm not sure what the core of the problem is but sometimes I suspected the SD-card as you did.
Sometimes the phone didn't show up the display even after a battery pull out. The thing that always helped in MY case was to pull out the battery for 1 hour and the problem disappeared for 1-2 months...
Hope this will help.
did you in anyway modify your phone? that includes rooting etc
i had this problem before but it stopped after i cleared my davik cache and it re populated the directory after i rebooted it. worse case scenario, you might want to try reflashing it.
I've not modified it at all. No rooting, no flashing, nothing. And I'm not keen to reflash it as it's from Wind in Canada, and there is no Wind rom posted. I know others are compatible, but I suspect it would make it harder to get warranty service if it has a BrightPoint rom on it (though I guess I should check the build number and see if it's the same).
I (occasionally) have the same problem. I, on the other hand, have had this issue since I bought the phone back in August of 2010. My phone is rooted, sometimes overclocked, and running standard android 2.1update1. What happens to my phone is that it is in lock mode and I press the lock button and all that happens is the 4 buttons below the screen illuminate but the screen itself does not. To solve it, I do a battery pull and it is back to normal. I don't know specifically what causes it because apparently this problem is also happening in unrooted XT720's. BTW I have never changed my SD card from the 8GB one that came with the phone.
I hate to hear about this issue but I'm glad I'm not the only one having it. I just got my XT711 a few days ago and the screen has done the same thing a few times to me also. I know 1-2 times I just picked up my phone and it did it, another time was when my camera froze, and once even when I paused Angry Birds game until the screen shut off, that time when I pushed the lock/ power button the 4 bottom lights came on and I could here the sounds from my game but my screen was blank. Hasn't done it in a couple of days, so hopefully it just had the flu! If anyone finds out what it is, let me know also because I've seen people with all models of XT phones having it.
Try another SD Card
Thank you, yes I have a new class 10 sd card ordered, so hopefully that cures the problem

Please help me with my phone.

Hey everyone who reads this.
I'd like to start my topic with apologising if I post this in the wrong section.
So, I have a LG Spirit H440N LTE for about 3 years now, maybe a little less. I've always taken good care of it, both physically and in updates / security wise aswell.
My phone has been working flawlessly until the last 2 days. 2 days ago i was charging my phone, and when it vibrated (meaning its 100%) I pulled the cable off, and pressed the power button (power button locks - unlocks the screen) the screen didn't turn on. I was like "wow that's strange" but didn't care much, i just kept pressing the button every 5-6 seconds, nothing.
At that point I pulled the battery out, let it sit for a short time and then put it back, start the phone, I felt the vibration (meaning it's starting up) but no screen, so my first idea was that I need to get a new firmware and completely reinstall my phone, as it seems like it got bricked.. for no reason, by itself ? Strange thing but I accepted it and literally been googling for 9 hours now and I find more and more issues.
After I got LG FlashTool, drivers, and even 3 different firmwares, I wanted to start the phone in download mode to start upgrading, but even though I held down "volume up for 5 seconds and then put the usb cable in" nothing happened, no screen, my PC didn't recognise the phone either.
So I got a little bit mad and pulled the cable out from the phone, I wanted to remove the battery, but out of nowhere the phone suddenly started loading in, screen working completely fine, i could do whatever i want, so my first thing was to do a hard reset. After the hard reset I set up my usual stuff (important apps etc) and I locked the screen so my battery won't go down. Little did I know, I ****ed up again, because ever since that happened, I can't get my screen to work again. I tried everything I could but my PC still doesn't recognise the phone (even after a LOT of drivers being installed), charging the phone doesn't do anything. Regardless if I remove - put back the battery no screen, no screen in download - hard reset mode either, it's just completely black.
I'd like to have some sort of help, because I am just completely out of ideas, I really feel like a firmware change could fix the phone, but if the computer doesn't recognise it, I have no idea what to do.

You might be having hardware issues, such as a faulty power button. If you are the type of user that frequently presses the power button to lock/unlock the screen, this leads to excessive wear on the button components, this is why some users prefer to use the "tap to sleep" and "tap to wake" feature, to avoid wearing the power button out. On my LG, this feature is called "KnockOn", it's located in Accessibility settings.

Sony Xperia Z5 display not working after submerged in water

Hi, I need some help with my Xperia Z5 single sim phone. I used my Xperia for under water photography. It was working fine for sometime but later it started behaving abnormal. It gave me message to insert headphones and random screen touch and apps opening and closing. Looking at such behavior I stopped inserting the phone in water. It restarted 1/2 times and later on I switched off the phone. When I removed the sim tray I observed that there were water droplets on the sim and memory card. I dried the phone by keeping it under bulb light, all the water vapor under the back and front camera disappeared. When I turned on the phone the display didn't turn on but I was able to feel the phone vibrating when I touched the finger print sensor, was able to hear charging sounds and the camera worked flash light turned on when the camera button was pressed. When I connect the phone to computer the phone is detected but i cant backup any data as the phone was pin+finger print protected. I tried to repair the phone through Sony Companion but nothing worked. I even tried using vysor Chrome extension to mirror my phone to my computer but the app failed to detect the phone.
Is there a possible way to recover the data by somehow unlocking the device?
Is there a way to repair the phone through flashing or need to show the device to Sony Mobile service center?
Would appreciate if any help provided.
Thanks in advance...

Waterproofing has long been a key selling point of the Xperia line, and the Z5 has the highest possible IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. That means it's been tested by being immersed in fresh water for 30 minutes in depths of up to 1.5 metres.
However, the language used on Sony's website has changed: "The IP rating of your device was achieved in laboratory conditions in standby mode, so you should not use the device underwater," the new policy says.

u12+ black screen after PIN unlock / Device unusable

Hi everyone, I'm throwing this out there because I've run out of ideas about what has just happened to my U12+ (64gb) today.
I woke up and used my phone as normal, caught up on Twitter and the news, the usual apps etc. nothing untoward. The same routine I've had with my phone for the past 18 months of owning it with zero issues. My handset is stock OS (Android 9) and so not rooted or anything like that. Virtually all the apps I use are standard issue from the Play Store, nothing really "out there" and I have BitDefender installed to look after security. Same setup I've had for over a year. The battery was around 35% so I plugged it into my wall charger while I went off to grab some breakfast. When I returned a couple of hours later the light on the handset was green, I unplugged the charger and attempted to unlock it with my fingerprint.
The phone asked for my PIN, no big deal so I entered it. Black screen. Tapped the power button again, it requested my PIN again, I entered and... black screen. Okay, I was a little bit concerned now. I held down the power button so the haptic buzz occurred, held for 10/20/30 seconds, a minute... nothing, no restart. Tap the power button and it asks me for my PIN again and shows yet another black screen. I held down Power + Volume Down but again, nothing and no restart.
I asked someone to call me, the screen came to life and I could take the call but each time I tried to pull down the system tray in order to try and reach Settings to restart it asked me for my PIN, I entered it = black screen. The call was unaffected.
I removed my SIM + microSD card tray = same deal as above.
The phone is clearly responsive in some way and the screen does display to ask for my PIN but I can't get into it in order to reboot it. Extremely worrying.
Does anyone have any advice? At the moment I am faced with the prospect of simply allowing the battery to run out so the phone shuts down naturally but that is going to take the best part of 2 days.
I'm really disappointed because I was planning another 1-2 years use for this handset as I just bought a 1TB microSD card which has been fine in the phone for weeks so I don't think that's the cause. It is also genuine SanDisk.
Any suggestions or advice? Thanks in advance.
Hello, I hope you have made a backup with google backup recently... This does not happen often on android, but sometimes the system could have a problem. You can try this go the bootloader with the power and volume buttons , after recovery.. after apply a wipe data/ factory reset.. is will make a factory reset of your phone except the sd card. You should by fine after that and profit again.
Thanks, I appreciate your reply.
At the moment I am running the battery down until the handset switches off naturally. When it comes back on I will try to launch the phone normally, if that doesn't work I'll run the battery down again and attempt to reach the bootloader.
My photos are backed up to the cloud, I may lose some text messages but I managed to transfer the majority of my 2FA over to another Android device bar one.
At the end of the day if it's a choice between wiping it or a bricked/unusable handset then I don't really have one. What a pain.

At the moment I am running the battery down until the handset switches off naturally <----- why that??? Even on a bootloop or a black screen you can reset it hold the buttons power and the volume, you can go on the bootloader.

The first thing I tried to do was hold down the power button or the power button in tandem with the volume buttons but the handset won't restart. I tried loads of times holding it for different amounts of time and... nothing.
Trust me, I tried.
The only way I can get the device to switch off is by draining the battery. I'm almost at 20% so it shouldn't be too much longer.
Well I already got a black screen after flashing a module magisk.. I have holding the power button and the phone have restart no problem, same thing on bootloop. You need to be sure to hold the button correctly.

Yeah, I'm certain I was holding the buttons correctly. I tried about 20 times using different combinations just to be sure but the device would not restart. The haptic shock buttons are one of my least favourite features of the u12+, it's got to be said.
Anyway, the phone ran out of battery about 15 minutes ago. I left it alone for few minutes and switched it back on. It allowed me back in and the device appears to be fully functional again. I can unlock by thumb print, face or PIN without issue.
Basically, it's fixed. My only concern is I have no idea what caused it or if it will happen again.
Thanks for offering help though, I appreciate it. I'm not sure if this thread can be closed/locked now? I'll look into that.
Cheers.
Yes.. i love the buttons too i never got a problem with this. Great if is fixed! Maybe make a factory reset the next time.
I am wondering if the new flagship have haptic buttons too.. htc will announce it Tuesday.
