Google Store Unlocked Pixel 2 "OEM unlocking" locked? - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

I've recently ordered an Unlocked Pixel 2 from the Google store, but under Developer Options, "OEM unlocking" is greyed out and i can't change it. Did Google run out of Google versions and sold me an Unlocked Verizon phone?
CID Checker shows:
[ro.boot.cid] : 00000000
[ro.bootloader] : mw8998-002.0059.00

I just checked and mine is showing the same thing. Ordered direct from Google, although I'm using it with Verizon, would that make a difference?

Nope, mines completely blocked off as if it were a Verizon model phone.

I just called Google support an they will get back to me in about 45 minutes, and said if they cannot solve it I'll have a replacement shipped to me. Seems to be the only solution for us at this time as others have had the same issue.

I also gave Google support a call and told them about my issue. They told me they had someone call just before me about the same issue. Anyway, they had me send them a debug report and said they'll get back to me later.

Same here. I opened ticket with Google support last night. Waiting for a response.

Sounds like possibly the VZW Sim is converting into VZW pixel with locked BL

My wife's Pixel 2 is on Verizon and I had no issues enabling OEM unlocking on it

i went to the verizon store to play with their pixels (wait, that did not sound right). anyhow, i tried to enable developer options, and could not on neither the regular nor the XL. I could enable the secret System Tuner UI. I tried tapping several thousand times on the build number, but nothing.
also, I did notice the screen burn in for the XL, but no burn in for the regular.
just some food for thought....

weird. mine is unlocked and I'm running on Verizon and it's not grayed out.

Mine is also grayed out. Bought the unlocked model from the Google Store. Contacted support, submitted a bug report, and waiting for a response. What a pain.

Hopefully Google can clear this up for those with the issue.

There is an official bug report opened on this, please STAR this bug and add your comments.
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/68897739

I got my replacement and I was able to unlock it. Good luck to everyone else who expects a fix this century. It'd kinda sad that nobody picked up this story. I sent it to XDA, Android Police, and Droid Life. Zero coverage.
Don't hold your breath on a fix. I really feel bad for the people who try to unlock their device a year or two from now or sell their device on Swappa and the sellers/buyers finds out it's not unlockable. OUCH.

I talked to Google support and they're sending me a replacement. They specifically asked me if i bought my phone from the Google store and if i chose the Unlocked version rather than the Verizon. Then i screen shared the issue with the person on the phone and they explained that Unlocked versions from the Google store are all suppose to have the "OEM unlocking" option unlocked. As such, they will be sending me a replacement with advanced shipping free of charge.
I called through the "Support & tips" tab in the phone 3 times. Got a call back with a rep helping me out pretty much instantly every time. I'm very satisfied with the customer service and support.

Mine was bought from Google store unlocked. I used my VZW Sim and first thing after setup was to open developer options and turn on OEM unlock. After updating to beta 8.1.0 it is still applied.

If the device is rooted why are there no custom roms for the verizon s3? What am I missing, does it have to be unlocked also?

Very few people have this phone right now. The date for in store sales keeps getting pushed back, and even a lot of pre order dates are getting pushed back. Wait till the phone is more widely available so devs can get their hands on it.

Doesn't matter what you "heard" it isn't Verizon that provides the coverage, Asurion does, unless you have it from another source. Verizon has no say in Asurion protecting hardware malfunctions. Verizon may not WARRANTY the device though.

Are all Nexus 5's unlocked?

Might be a lame question, but want to make sure I don't get burned before I buy this. Found a craigslist post for an almost brand new Nexus 5, apparently from Tmobile. Here is the title "GOOGLE NEXUS 5 BY LG T-MOBILE 16GB"
Will I be able to use this Straight Talk? Could this somehow be locked to Tmobile under contract? That is my only concern.
Thanks for any help
Yes. Although you'll need to buy the right one for your country (D820 for North America, D821 for everywhere else)
So far, no Nexus 5's have come locked so it looks like they're all unlocked.
Some older Nexus' did turn up locked though, but so far no one has seen a locked N5 so the assumption that all N5's are unlocked is a safe one.
So I picked up a N5, 16GB black with box, no charger which is no big deal for $260. I get back to work and the phone isn't wiped, lots of d**k pics. I can't believe some people.

Do you have any info of the person you bought if from. I always try to get a license plate of their vehicle just in case.

You are screwed if the guy you bought it from isn't the original owner, that could be the reason why it wasn't wiped.
From what I hear the only way to get it delisted is to have the original owner, the one that reported it stolen call in. If he is the guy that you bought it from have the police make him call T-Mobile or give you a refund.

Most information on Bands for the D820 is taken from google's info, which I'm sure you won't believe but is actually not accurate. The maximum LTE bands the WTR1605L included in the MSM8794 of the snapdragon 800 is 7, which is actually the most any chip today can do - BUT teh google site and many other sites list 9 bands - which isn't quite right.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2131705
The D821 does:
LTE: Bands: 1/3/5/7/8/20
The D820 is reported to do:
LTE: Bands: 1/2/4/5/17/19/25/26/41
However, looking at the box of the N5, you'll only see 7 listed:

HTC Unlock Policy

I'm looking for a new phone and want one I can easily unlock the bootloader on, with no notch. I'm looking at an S9 but now there is a 7-day wait and other hoops to jump through with one variant. Huawei just caved.
Are HTC phones easy to bootloader unlock?
Can I get a US carrier unlocked version, or would I need an international version?

HTC allows for unlocking your bootloader via htcdev.com within a few minutes. Thus it is really easy to unlock every HTC device. Doesn't matter which variant you buy, as all are unlockable via the mentioned website. You should decide which variant you buy according to the carrier you gonna use it on.

Thanks for the quick reply. Just double-checking this though...
Carriers in the US also lock the bootloader of phones from multiple manufacturers.
I'm not familiar with the HTC model. Do they sell through carriers, or direct like OnePlus?

Verizon is selling it, but in most regions you got to buy it from HTC right away. You might register to the HTC Club using your email to see if there's a 10% discount available, as e.g. on HTC Club in Germany.

No carrier is carrying the U12+. It's certified to work on Verizon but Verizon will not be carrying it. It's either through HTC direct or Amazon. Either way since it's not carrier locked or through them you should be able to unlock the bootloader rather easily.

It is certified by T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon, regardless which version you buy, I was told by an HTC product guy. As for T-Mobile I can attest to this: wifi calling is always a PITA but I opened my unlocked one from the box on the spot, put it on the bar's wifi, disabled mobile data and voila, wifi calling worked right away with my very first call, straight out of the box (usually never the case with a phone you didn't buy from TMO.)
Easy
You can unlock the bootloader in settings in the htc 12. Go to settings, system, about phone, software information, more, then tap build number multiple times to unlock developer options go to them and OEM bootload unlock will be a switch a few down in the settings.

Piggybacking on what DeeZZ said, it disables the security so you can use the HTCdev website. I would follow it pretty closely. Be sure you have USB debugging enabled and you are savvy with adb and fastboot commands. As always PERFORM A BACKUP after booting twrp and flashing the twrp installer. Keep a RUU handy as well.

Question Anyone here able to run a gsma imei check?

I have a factory unlocked 6a that I'm wanting to buy, but guy thinks it may/may not have a lock put on from a carrier. Not sure if he means a financial lock or what. I'm needing it to be clean on both VZW and TMO, but honestly don't care if it has a lock on ATT (no signal here). I've ran dozen of the free imei ones, but since not of them tap into the gsma database, it's not real data. Anyone here able/willing to run a quick check for an old soul? I can pm the imei privately.
If you haven't already done so, you could try this for Verizon:
IMEI Information
Or this for TMO:
https://www.t-mobile.com/resources/bring-your-own-phone
Thanks I have already. Verizon seems to be only a basic band check, nothing deeper. T-Mobile does though appear to dive deeper with this message. Just trying to get clarification. Doesn't help that my OCD won't let this go ha

I'm assuming it's a financial lock. But I have no way to find out.
Well, if the guy isn't sure, that kind of sounds like you should buy from someone else.
Swappa has pretty good deals on this phone already.
Yeah maybe so. Trying to make a good deal work ha. So is it definitive that A12 Dec and newer patches have broken the temporary carrier unlock pixel 6 trick?
You can check the IMEI through Swappa's IMEI checker, it does check it against the GSMA registry.
Alternatively you can buy a 6a off of Swappa and not have to worry about it being network blocked etc.

Sadly Swappa doesn't give any details. In fact for a test, I used an imei from a phone that definitely does have a financial lock, and Swappa took it. It just seems any of the public searches are not a legit check.

Definitely shows details for me.
Also if you happened to check an IMEI from an AT&T finance locked phone, it will show as allowed because AT&T does not actually blacklist phones for installment plan nonpayment.

Gotcha. Any of the unlock carrier tricks work on a Spectrum phone I wonder? Not much data out there concerning.
I've come across a newer one that supposedly works on the Dec A13. The adb delete config doesn't work past the Dec patch from what I understand.

Question I can't find any solution for my tmo pixel 7 pro

People have denied that this even is something that can be on this phone. I've search everywhere any advice, I reached out to my carrier, I've even just given it time. The checkin dialer code verifies on connected to Internet but still, my OEM unlock is grayed out and says connect to the Internet or contact your carrier. It's some bs. I've read this is what Verizon models will display and it's a lost cause but this was a brand new tmo pixel 7 pro and I triple checked the packaging it has the T-Mobile information inside the box and the seal states it tmo. I just wanna unlock my bootloader. I've ran out of ideas and looked everywhere, so I'm posting to get some advice please if you have anything lemme know.

And what did the carrier say?
Regardless of which carrier you have, you must fully pay off the device before you can have them normally allow for OEM unlocking if you did not purchase the "factory unlocked" version of the device. Of course, there are ways around that via contacting your carrier before fully paying off the device. But you mentioned that you had contacted them.
So, as @bobby janow said: what did the carrier say?

But its a brand new phone. I have the op 10 pro still on contract rooted unlocked obv and twrp on it as of a few days ago. Just this phone is being weird

Can I really complain that much!?!?!
Btw I have discovered a lot of Verizon deep links and bs in activity launcher does anyone know what numbers of the IMEI determine the carrier for verizon
I just got my Pixel 7 PRO yestersday. In the same day I had it unlocked and a custom ROM put on it. Although I was honest and told them I needed it unlocked for development reasons. Plus I've had 3 phones through them that were sim unlocked before being paid off. I guess part of it might be a trust thing.
I'll just get a new pixel it's just a dumb fault I guess yes I know it has to be paid to do the permanent unlock except through Twitter it's a strange issue that I have

They can do it. They're just choosing not to. The same day I got my pixel 7 pro I had it unlocked. So I know they can do it

The carrier had no clue what it was and they weren't sure what to do I spoke with several people and nothing. ive gotten many devices unlocked by pestering the Twitter folk till they unlock it and here is the kicker I've had 2 tmo people try to unlock it now it didn't let them and even paid a company to try and it says it is blocked for potential motherboard replacement. But its a brand new phone. I have the op 10 pro still on contract rooted unlocked obv and twrp on it as of a few days ago. Just this phone is being weird
