I have a factory unlocked 6a that I'm wanting to buy, but guy thinks it may/may not have a lock put on from a carrier. Not sure if he means a financial lock or what. I'm needing it to be clean on both VZW and TMO, but honestly don't care if it has a lock on ATT (no signal here). I've ran dozen of the free imei ones, but since not of them tap into the gsma database, it's not real data. Anyone here able/willing to run a quick check for an old soul? I can pm the imei privately.
If you haven't already done so, you could try this for Verizon:
IMEI Information
Or this for TMO:
https://www.t-mobile.com/resources/bring-your-own-phone
Thanks I have already. Verizon seems to be only a basic band check, nothing deeper. T-Mobile does though appear to dive deeper with this message. Just trying to get clarification. Doesn't help that my OCD won't let this go ha

How can it be factory unlocked but also locked by a carrier?
Either you bought it from a carrier or didn't.

I'm assuming it's a financial lock. But I have no way to find out.
Well, if the guy isn't sure, that kind of sounds like you should buy from someone else.
Swappa has pretty good deals on this phone already.
Yeah maybe so. Trying to make a good deal work ha. So is it definitive that A12 Dec and newer patches have broken the temporary carrier unlock pixel 6 trick?
You can check the IMEI through Swappa's IMEI checker, it does check it against the GSMA registry.
Alternatively you can buy a 6a off of Swappa and not have to worry about it being network blocked etc.

Sadly Swappa doesn't give any details. In fact for a test, I used an imei from a phone that definitely does have a financial lock, and Swappa took it. It just seems any of the public searches are not a legit check.

Definitely shows details for me.
Also if you happened to check an IMEI from an AT&T finance locked phone, it will show as allowed because AT&T does not actually blacklist phones for installment plan nonpayment.

Gotcha. Any of the unlock carrier tricks work on a Spectrum phone I wonder? Not much data out there concerning.
I've come across a newer one that supposedly works on the Dec A13. The adb delete config doesn't work past the Dec patch from what I understand.

Very few people have this phone right now. The date for in store sales keeps getting pushed back, and even a lot of pre order dates are getting pushed back. Wait till the phone is more widely available so devs can get their hands on it.

Is the phone released officially? Nope. Do most dev's even have it yet? Nope. Do dev's build ROM's overnight with a phone they don't have access to? Nope. Chill out!

Doesn't matter what you "heard" it isn't Verizon that provides the coverage, Asurion does, unless you have it from another source. Verizon has no say in Asurion protecting hardware malfunctions. Verizon may not WARRANTY the device though.

LG Nexus 5 from t-mobile is Factory unlocked ? or locked ?
if its locked , can we unlock it for using any GSM sim ????
Nexus 5 comes unlocked.
From play its unlocked. Previous nexus devices have come locked before so we cannot rule it out as being locked. Need someone with a T-Mobile supplied unit to confirm.
Since T-Mobile exists in multiple countries, probably a good idea to be explicit about which country you're asking about

i bought mine directly from tmobile, its always unlocked from tmobile if its a nexus. most their phones are unlocked generally. and any tmobile member can ask to get any tmobile phone unlocked, for free, provided they have been with tmobile for 6 month or more. but anyways, the tmobile nexus 5 is the same exact unlocked nexus 5 that you get from the play store, but only the 16gb version is available.

Sorry this is a little off topic from OP but I was just searching for a little info from someone w/ a tmobile purchased phone. On my Google purchased N5, in build.prop, there is the item: ro.carrier=unknown. @simms22, does your phone say unknown here also?? I'm just wondering if putting in "T-mobile" would help with voice/signal/data issues for people on T-mobile. Anybody have knowledge on this matter??? Thanks, (and pardon me, OP)

All nexus devices are whether it's from Sprint or T-Mobile or bestbuy or anywhere really.
I've recently ordered an Unlocked Pixel 2 from the Google store, but under Developer Options, "OEM unlocking" is greyed out and i can't change it. Did Google run out of Google versions and sold me an Unlocked Verizon phone?
CID Checker shows:
[ro.boot.cid] : 00000000
[ro.bootloader] : mw8998-002.0059.00
I just checked and mine is showing the same thing. Ordered direct from Google, although I'm using it with Verizon, would that make a difference?

I just called Google support an they will get back to me in about 45 minutes, and said if they cannot solve it I'll have a replacement shipped to me. Seems to be the only solution for us at this time as others have had the same issue.
I also gave Google support a call and told them about my issue. They told me they had someone call just before me about the same issue. Anyway, they had me send them a debug report and said they'll get back to me later.
Same here. I opened ticket with Google support last night. Waiting for a response.
Sounds like possibly the VZW Sim is converting into VZW pixel with locked BL
My wife's Pixel 2 is on Verizon and I had no issues enabling OEM unlocking on it
i went to the verizon store to play with their pixels (wait, that did not sound right). anyhow, i tried to enable developer options, and could not on neither the regular nor the XL. I could enable the secret System Tuner UI. I tried tapping several thousand times on the build number, but nothing.
also, I did notice the screen burn in for the XL, but no burn in for the regular.
just some food for thought....

I got my replacement and I was able to unlock it. Good luck to everyone else who expects a fix this century. It'd kinda sad that nobody picked up this story. I sent it to XDA, Android Police, and Droid Life. Zero coverage.
Don't hold your breath on a fix. I really feel bad for the people who try to unlock their device a year or two from now or sell their device on Swappa and the sellers/buyers finds out it's not unlockable. OUCH.
I talked to Google support and they're sending me a replacement. They specifically asked me if i bought my phone from the Google store and if i chose the Unlocked version rather than the Verizon. Then i screen shared the issue with the person on the phone and they explained that Unlocked versions from the Google store are all suppose to have the "OEM unlocking" option unlocked. As such, they will be sending me a replacement with advanced shipping free of charge.
I called through the "Support & tips" tab in the phone 3 times. Got a call back with a rep helping me out pretty much instantly every time. I'm very satisfied with the customer service and support.
Mine was bought from Google store unlocked. I used my VZW Sim and first thing after setup was to open developer options and turn on OEM unlock. After updating to beta 8.1.0 it is still applied.

I'm pretty sure you need an account with Tmobile to unlock the device. That is the correct and legal way.
The phone also has to be paid off (to T-Mobile). If the person never paid off T-Mobile, then T-Mobile won't unlock it.
You must be a T-Mobile USA customer and meet all of the SIM Unlock Policy requirements for T-Mobile to SIM unlock any device. You also must be the original owner.
SIM Unlock Policy | Unlock Your Mobile Wireless Device | T-Mobile
Learn how to unlock your wireless mobile device for use on other carriers (formerly SIM Unlock). See device compatibility and unlock requirement.

Any recommendation on a reputable online unlock service? My S22 Ultra is locked to Smart (PH)
I have a similar problem. I bought an new s908u with uscellular lock from an official seller on eBay and i live in Europe, i tried the unlock band guide from another post, but this didn't help. I don't have an us sim card, but i have read that if you have a network lock and can put in a sim from the original country and make a minimum 5 minutes call it should unlock itself. But before i buy one overseas, can someone maybe verify if this really works? Because first i didn't even get a message to fill in a network code from uscellular, but now i have s908u1 firmware on it, it askes for it. So my question, can someone verify this method will work with any us sim card in Europe to unlock its network lock? and if not what are my possibilities to unlock it myself with software? 3rd party asked 100+ dollars for it. if possible keep the knox and al security things untouched, i already contacted SAMKEY and they say it is not supported and they are the only reputable one i know of. So i think i am stuck because the seller had a no return policy and i was not aware of the fact that there was an international version of snapdragon, this is what happends when you don't do your research well enough first
If you install a custom rom would that remove the network lock?

i read somewhere else it won't. IF you have 200 dollars to spare unlockboot.com can unlock it, i talked to them today i thought it was 35 dollars, but i had misread it, it was 200 for the s22 ultra, so i got immediately my refund. I am not related in any manner but i was trying stuff with SAMFW and there tool works for certain things, and they recommended unlockboot.com and i gave it a try. But 200 is to much for me at the moment, so i want to find another way. If someone has an sim card from the country of where the phone was bought, i read you can use that and call for 5 minutes, and it should unlock it and then you can use any card. i don't have any usa card so can test it

I got my Tmobile s22 ultra unlocked without the device unlock app in India and was charged $150
Network unlocking a Samsung which is locked to T-mobile is a lot harder than unlocking many phones, as T-mobile feature built in programs in the S22 which prohibit unlocking via easy ways.
Obviously it would be far better to just go through T-mobile and have it unlocked through their system. In this case it was not possible.
Because of this I went to Telegram to get help with it. Someone advertised their service to help, at $50 USD, a lot cheaper than other services I found from Google. So I went ahead with it.
What ensued was me being taken for a massive ride. I first had to download a remote USB redirector so he could access the phone files through my computer. No problem. All seemed to be going well until I received these messages

Whether the photos are legitimate I am not sure, they simply look as if they are taken straight from a generic hacking website.
Where the phone would be registered and to which server I am not sure. Foolish as I am, I believed him, and sent the $30 through.
Hours later I receive the following
At no point did I say I was a technician.
And of course there is a solution, let me guess, it involves more money...
Guessed it. I am no expert but I didn't know that paying for firmware was a thing. I believed it was open sourced currently. Am I wrong?
Anyhow that's where we are at now, I am unsure how to proceed. Considering just cutting my losses.
Obviously re-reading this and putting it into words I feel like an idiot.
But at the time I was generally trusting of the process, as this serviceman has decent reviews. But then, it's not hard to fake reviews these days is it.
Why did T-mobile need to network lock their phones even though it has been paid off. I don't understand how it's legal for them to block a phone's service like that. Sadface.

Return it if possible.
Otherwise contact Tmobile. As long as it's paid for off, not reported stolen, they should unlock it. See if New Zealand attorney general etc offers any kind of recourse if all that fails.
