How to save contact in SIM or in phone storage in MiA1 instead of google acc - Xiaomi Mi A1 Guides, News, & Discussion

In Mi A1, I am not seeing any option to save newly created contact in phone or SIM, the only option is to save in google account. Also tried in google dedicated contact app from play store, but the option to save contact in phone or SIM is missing there as well in Google contact app. Anyone know any app or workaround to save contact in phone or SIM?

[Q] Moto G Kitkat doesn't show SIM contacts

I have just received my Moto G and upgraded it to 4.4.2.
When I inserted my SIM, the dialer didn't show any of my SIM contacts, only the contacts from Google.
I did select "All Contacts" in the dialer's menu, but it didn't help.
The contacts are on the SIM, SIM management apps can see them.
I don't want to import the contacts, want to keep them in SIM - is it possible?

No offense, but what's the point of use SIM to save contacts actually, having a Google account?

That way I can switch the SIM to another phone and use it, no matter what the device/OS is, even a dumbphone.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Same issue
Even I am facing the same issue. I have some 703 contacts stored on gmail, including many email addresses that I no longer need and weir names from google plus and facebook. I have 99 contacts saved on my sim which I regularly use but there is no way to see them in the 'people' app. There is an import/export option, but even after importing my contacts I can't see them. Any solutions?

You'll have to go to contacts (app/widget) then options..import..import from SIM.

As I mentioned above, even after I import the contacts I can't see them until gmail contacts are ticked.. so the phone is storing the SIM contacts in the gmail contacts and you can't use only your SIM contacts

I have to say I concur with this annoyance. I can't even edit my sim contacts.
Seriously, I would like to keep my contacts on my sim card not only in Google's portfolio.

I see this as a Goog strategy to force user to use the Google contacts ..heck, it even wants me to start using Hangouts to manage my texts.
For now, if you want to view, export, import SIM contacts, use an independent app like 'Copy to SIM' from play store.
Or maybe install an 3th party dialer, forgot about that possibility.

How do I organize/separate multiple sim contacts?

As the title suggests I just receives the Xiaomi Note 3 today. On syncing both sims of my mother and father I noticed that the default contacts tab has synced them all together.
Now this phone is going to be used by my mother who is not so tech savvy. A lot of the contacts are simply email contacts but they appear in the contact list.
Is there any way to organize them? I basically want the contacts from each sim to appear in a seprate grouping or getting to choose at a time which sim contacts are visible. Also how can I remove the unnecessary email contacts showing in the Contacts tab.
I searched google in a varoety of ways but to no avail. Please help me out in this regard.

I'd suggest create different google accounts and store them there on purpose. Sync the phone with multiple google accounts. and you are done.

Anyone know a way to use google voice as it's own completely separate phone app?

I know there is hangouts. But you cant edit your contacts from within the app, and cant choose which contacts to display.
I want to have my google voice number as a completely separate phone app that does not forward to my phones number at all.
Original phone: original google account with all my contacts and everything else.
New app: google account #2 with its own separate contacts and only uses data and google voice number.
Is there an app that handles google voice separate from your regular phone?

Google Contacts

Hi ,
Just received my mate 9 from China with GMS Core and Play installed but can't get my google contacts to sync??
Can anyone help asap???
Many thanks!?!

You must download the APK from online sources like this one above and after that, you should have no problem reaching out to your contacts.
Same for the Calendar sync APK file. That should be all that you need.
Have Fun!
Thanks mate! Worked like a charm...
You can also get the Google contacts app there and use it rather than Huawei's contact app.

Thanks.
Just wish there was a decent dual sim dialler as I like to assign sims to contacts as I use my phone for work too.
I saw something on Play store like that, cannot recall app name but it let choose SIM to call from after you click a contact number.

But this is how it works right now.... You press a contact and open o new window asking you which sim to make the call sim 1 or sim 2...
I think that he wants sim association contacts... The only device that work with it is LG G4, LG V10,LG V20 all dual sim...LG is the only device that you can assign contacts to a sim without have to choose every time which sim... But it doesn't has the "Always ask" option...
You can install and try from playstore "true phone diler & contact" that manage both options but some times is getting mess up with stock diler... It will be great if you could freeze or disable stock diler....
When you select a contact in the dialer, it shows the two sims and it tells you also which sim was used last time for this contact. It is not a fixed connection between contact and sim, but for me it is a good approach. I'm not willing to go through all my contacts to connect them to a sim. And probably redo this when moving to another phone.
Thanks Guys. Currently using True Caller. Moto do a great implementation of this...
Try drupe dialer from playstore

Just like to say thanks. Bought the Mate 9 from China Aliexpress with AL00 china model. Having problem syncing all my contacts via the google account. Finally fix the issue with this thread. Thanks again.
I just notice my google contacts are not being synchronized despite having the latest apk installed. I have reinstalled the app giving it full permission and still not able to synch my contacts last synch is dated Feb 11
last update: deleting and re-adding the gmail account fixed the problem
Thanks, I just had same problem with my Mate9 from China; moreover GMS core were not installed and so no Gmail, no Playstore etc. I had to install gms core from Hiapp(in the phone), and after that install all the google apps one by one from the store. Now all run fine! Thanks again
Hi!
I tried this but it keep saying that the App can't open =/
It redirects me to the HiApp version, which is in Google Contacts but with a Chinese Title.
Any ideas anyone?

Contacts app confusion

Hi All,
Just migrated from iPhone to OnePlus 7 Pro, and am enjoying my return to Android very much.
However, I'm really puzzled by how the inbuilt contacts app is working.
I've always kept my contacts synced with my Google account, so when I moved across I simply added my Google account and there were all my contacts.
So far, so simple. My expectation was that the Contacts app on the phone would simply display my Google contacts and that any edits would be reflected in the Google account.
I've recently tried to edit a contact, and I find that it's not so simple. For the particular contact, I appear to have 3 linked contacts. One from Google, one from WhatsApp and one from the phone itself.
To make matters worse, there appear to be more phone contacts than there are contacts in the Google account. How the hell did that happen? I've not added any new contacts, or told the phone to maintain any contacts locally.
I've now told the Contacts app to only show contacts that are in the Google account, and to use the Google account as the default for new contacts.
My questions are this:
1) Why does the phone appear to be maintaining a separate sets of contacts?
2) How do I know which field to edit in a contact. Attached screenshot shows show there are three identical sets of phone numbers. Which one is for the Google account?
3) Can I stop the phone from maintaining it's own local contacts database?
4) Can I make the phone only show the Google contacts when editing?
5) Can I get a view that shows which contacts are on the phone, but not in Google? I want to work out where the extra ones have come from.
Perhaps, I'm missing the point of how Android does this. If anyone could explain, that would be great.
Thanks,
Andy.
