As the title suggests I just receives the Xiaomi Note 3 today. On syncing both sims of my mother and father I noticed that the default contacts tab has synced them all together.
Now this phone is going to be used by my mother who is not so tech savvy. A lot of the contacts are simply email contacts but they appear in the contact list.
Is there any way to organize them? I basically want the contacts from each sim to appear in a seprate grouping or getting to choose at a time which sim contacts are visible. Also how can I remove the unnecessary email contacts showing in the Contacts tab.
I searched google in a varoety of ways but to no avail. Please help me out in this regard.

I'd suggest create different google accounts and store them there on purpose. Sync the phone with multiple google accounts. and you are done.

I know WP7 is all about connecting people and stuff, but why is "formally known as contacts" now merged with "people"?
I have tons of contacts associated with my email address and scrolling through hundreds of contacts just to find my home number is ridiculous.
So my question is:
Is there a way to only display SIM contacts? Not facebook and email contacts..
EDIT.. I gave up, reseted my phone and made my primary email address my google (which i have no contacts on)
Then later added my windows live account..
Microsoft really needs to step their game up

Apparently SIM contacts can be imported but have no idea what about seeing them.
As for scrolling, you have Search button in People so no need to scroll.
You can also select by letter.

Yeah i know what you mean but in almost every letter category there are at least 20-39 contacts, since im using my business email for my phone...
I have imported my contacts and they are right in the mix in the overkill of contacts. Searching for them is meh, but if its the last resort i dont think Windows Phone 7 is for me. I just wanted the ability to slide straight to my contacts on the go without the hassle. Theres no reason my boss should be even there lol
If I understand correctly, you want only the contacts on your SIM to appear, but not contacts from your email accounts and facebook?
Not exactly sure how to show the SIM contacts, or if they show up by default. You could try going to Settings-->Email & Accounts, and clicking on the listed email accounts and unchecking "Contacts" under "Content to Sync". Also, going to Settings--> swype right to applications --> people, you can select to "Only add Facebook info to existing contacts" under "Include Facebook friends as contacts", assuming you haven't tried these steps already. That should prevent the contacts on your email account from being seen on your phone.
As for the SIM contacts, i would assume they show up once they are detected? Maybe someone else could verify, since I don't have any way of checking.
Yeah I know about those settings, I even removed my Facebook account from the phone. But with my windows live account under content to sync it only has "email" as an option. Nothing else.. I also heard that since its the primary email It does everything by default and cannot be removed without a factory reset.. Which i just cannot do :[

Hi, Just got my charge today and synced up my contacts from my gmail (primary contacts list), facebook and twitter. But my contacts seem to be a mess. Many of them were automagically linked together but many others just show repeats of each other and when I link them manually, it seems as if I am loosing some information. Also, many of my google contacts show up multiple times with repeated info, when I link them it just ends up doubling up on everything. Moving from an old HTC windows mobile phone, I am stuck with these ridiculous notes in contacts that HTC used for its sync.
An example, My friend Becky has two contact entries, both from google (despite only one entry in my google contacts). One contains most of the info and the other just an email address, when I join them I loose the number and name and just end up with her email address as the contact. What gives? My question:
Is there a decent contact manager recommended that will join contacts as one contact (not multiple) and remove redundant information?
Is there any logic to joining contacts that will prevent me from loosing information like that or am I doing something wrong?
How do I add my google contacts "into my phone" so that I can use it to create groups and the such? I believe I can just export a contacts file and import it but I am afraid I would run into the same problem of multiple contacts with the same information in them.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
ok heres what i would do, remove all the accounts with contacts from the phone and then reboot. now add your google account back and check it. if every thing is good. move on with Facebook and such.. i dont let Facebook sync with my phone after what happened to me. anyways check it again.
this fixed my problem with google and hotmail, and other accounts. hopefully it will work for you.
Or you can open up contacts, hit menu and set the privcey filters..like don't show Facebook contacts etc
I dont think so
If you download the Facebook app from the market it gives you different options to sync. I sync only with exsiting contacts that are in my phonebook. That way I don't have a million people in my contacts list.
I followed your advice and got it the way I like. I had to sync twitter and facebook through the phone and manually combine contacts. At least now when I user the message app, I don't have four or five of the same people. Out was word when I first noticed the facebook and twitter apps both have an additional sync option. This is my first android smartphone too. Thanks for the advice.

For some reason I have 3 versions of each person across these 3 accounts. They even have the exact name match yet android isn't automatically combining them into one. Really annoying. Tried searching all over the net for a solution to no avail.
There is an option in gmail contacts to find and merge duplicate contacts
Yes, I've used that before. But when I use it now, it says there are no duplicates. Well that's because it's true, there are no duplicates in my google.com account. The problem is the 2 other accounts not merging with my google.com account.

So then copy all the contacts into one account
I used to have a similar problem with contacts stored on my sim card and contact in my google account. Multiple numbers would show up for the same person in texting and the dialer.
Migrated all contacts to google, and wiped my sim card clean. Make sure to keep a hard copy, in case something goes wrong.
I read it wrong ignore this

Yeah, that's really the only workaround right now. But I was hoping there was an actual fix for the syncing problem, so that facebook/g+ pictures syncs up with the already existing contacts. I mean, they have the exact same names, so why doesn't it merge into one contact instead of displaying 3 times??
The Samsung contacts app started randomly linking contacts which now have synced back to my other contacts provider i.e. Google contacts.
I only noticed when I got a call and my phone showed me a contact name different to the person actually calling. I then edited that contact, went to manage linked contacts and noticed that the Samsung contacts app had merged 3 contacts from 3 different countries with completely different names.
Every day I discover another one of these mis-merged contacts.
What I am looking for is a "unlink all contacts" menu.
Any ides how to solve this mess (I have about 1500 contacts and no idea how many have been messed with by this app)?
anyone please? any ideas or feedback? where to get support?
I have the same issue, the phone numbers were getting mixed up from different accounts such as WhatsApp, telegram etc
Hi All,
Just migrated from iPhone to OnePlus 7 Pro, and am enjoying my return to Android very much.
However, I'm really puzzled by how the inbuilt contacts app is working.
I've always kept my contacts synced with my Google account, so when I moved across I simply added my Google account and there were all my contacts.
So far, so simple. My expectation was that the Contacts app on the phone would simply display my Google contacts and that any edits would be reflected in the Google account.
I've recently tried to edit a contact, and I find that it's not so simple. For the particular contact, I appear to have 3 linked contacts. One from Google, one from WhatsApp and one from the phone itself.
To make matters worse, there appear to be more phone contacts than there are contacts in the Google account. How the hell did that happen? I've not added any new contacts, or told the phone to maintain any contacts locally.
I've now told the Contacts app to only show contacts that are in the Google account, and to use the Google account as the default for new contacts.
My questions are this:
1) Why does the phone appear to be maintaining a separate sets of contacts?
2) How do I know which field to edit in a contact. Attached screenshot shows show there are three identical sets of phone numbers. Which one is for the Google account?
3) Can I stop the phone from maintaining it's own local contacts database?
4) Can I make the phone only show the Google contacts when editing?
5) Can I get a view that shows which contacts are on the phone, but not in Google? I want to work out where the extra ones have come from.
Perhaps, I'm missing the point of how Android does this. If anyone could explain, that would be great.
Thanks,
Andy.
