Note 4 (N910F) Mic doesn't work for any voice chat app i.e. Whatsapp, FB messenger - General Questions and Answers

Hello Community!
I really need some help. So the thing is I recently bought a used samsung note 4 and while everything seems and works flawlessly (The phone hasnt been used all that much) the mic doesnt seem to work when I use it for anything other than network calls, that is, no voice recording using the built in app, no calls or voice messages over any of the voice chat apps such as Whatsapp,Fb messenger or Line. I dont think its a hardware issue because the mic works as it should when I make network calls. The problem arises when I use other apps that need mic. Is there any solution to this? I really like the phone but this thing is deal breaker. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Regards

Have you tried resetting the device or wiping the dalvik/cache ?
Is the original ROM installed on your device?

When I bought the phone it was reset to factory settings by myself and just a day ago I updated the firmware to marshmallow manually as the phone was originally running lollipop. I havent wiped the dalvik cache, can you please guide me how to. Also I must add the said problem existed even before the update. I was hoping the update would fix it.

Factory resetting should automatically clear the dalvik chache but you can do it manually too in the recovery mode of your phone.

Hello,
Clean the charging port and speakers using a needle.

yeah man I reset dalvik cache manually but no change still the problem persists.

It is probably a hardware issue then, since your device has multiple microphones. One is used for sound recording while calling and the other one for all the other sound recording

Speakerphone auto on problem

Every time I receive a call my Speakerphone turns on by itself. Same when I make a call, it says that Speakerphone is on but it is not and work normally through the ear speaker.
Did clear data on Google dialer and same thing but at least the Speakerphone icon shows me that it is on when before it didn't.
I'm rooted but still everything else is stock. I had some apps disabled but re enabled them and updated and still the same problem.
On my first attempt to root I managed to stop it from booting the OS so I flashed the factory image and on my second attempt to root everything went fine. So maybe something went wrong there.
Does anyone have any idea beside factory reset or using the flash the factory image?

try answering or dialing a call with headset(handsfree) plugged in!
Lets see what it does!
When I plug in something like a wired headset the Speakerphone doesn't auto on. But it does the same thing again when I unplug it.

Well I ended up doing a factory reset and it all works fine now. I will personalize my N5 again and monitor it.If it comes back I will let you know what I did to get that problem.
I found what is causing the problem.
It is the app Elixir 2. It must have a but somewhere because of Kitkat.
I absolutely love this app because of its versatility so I already contacted the developer.
Hope he gets back to me soon.

Dialer Issues after update

When calling anyone(in contact or dialing an unknown number), the dialer doesn't work for the first time. when I redial the same number again, it works. I tried clearing cache and Dalvik cache thru TWRP. I still have same issue.
Is anyone facing this issue? any solution?
similar to issue here https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=81593 (check #51)
firmware version: UE40
TWRP recovery & ROOTED
I had the exact same problem for a while. I tried with another SIM card and it was still happening. And then, suddenly, it went away. I looked online and didn't find much. On the Idol 3 subreddit, nobody else had this issue.
Sorry, I wish I had a solution.
I just tried clearing the app data and restarted my phone. The issue is resolved now.

I had the same problem, even with other dialers. Clearing the default Call app's data and rebooting worked for me, too.
i am also facing exact the same problem! hope someone/alcatel will fixed it ! its super annoying
Mmmm. Just tried clearing the app data and reboot. Looks fine so far! Hope the issue doesn't come back again.

Updated my S7 to official Oreo and my battery drains really quickly

I just updated my S7 to official samsung Oreo and my battery is going crazy. I just unplugged my charging cable after the light indicated fully charged battery, and like 4 minutes later it's already at 97%. It just drains faster than i've ever seen. What can the cause be?
I have tried clearing the cache and also unticked the run stuff in background for the android system. Android is running at 1% battery drain so i wouldn't think that's much of an issue, but i dunno.
did u try factory reset after installing oreo? i did that and my battery usage is very good
I had the same problem and did factory reset and now it a little bit better.
Hope Samsung will just push an update to fix that issue.
My guess is the phone needs to "adapt" to the new software. Try checking your battery stats a few days after an update, ideally a week, then you'll get more consistent and realistic results. Post them here, I'm curious in the battery life increase/decrease vs. Nougat.
This is a known problem but it doesn't affect everyone. Just wait for update.
any update about it? I'm experiencing same problem
I have the same issue after updating my S7 to Oreo. This really sucks. Can hardly keep the phone charged. I don't know why they roll out updates with bugs.
Whats the easiest way of factory resetting without spending half a day getting the phone back to the way it was before the factory reset?

Use Samsung Smart Switch app to backup to SD card. Then restore.
Factory reset then restore?
I'm scared that might just restore the problems that came with the factory reset?

No. It just restores your installed apps, app data, contacts, SMS, phone numbers. Etc. Backing up & factory resetting is always recommended when having issues with a new version of Android.
Best way to backup?
Well I've never done a factory reset before so I'm still scared. I have all my contacts and photos backed up with Google (have that Photos app & a gmail). I also have Smart Things and Smart Switch and I've seen stuff mentioned abt those being useful when doing a factory reset but I don't know exactly how to go abt it. Maybe I should do that wipe thing 1st?

best way is from stock recovery mode, wipe cache and then factory reset, both action from there.

Thank you for the reply and I'm sure most ppl on here understand exactly what you said but since I've never done any of those things, I have no clue how to do them, lol. I don't want to factory reset if I don't know all my stuff is backed up. Idk how I would know. All I do know is my pics and contacts would be backed up from my Google account. I will google a video and maybe they'll have something S7 specific so I don't screw it up, lol.
Side note/question- if I went into every single app and cleared the cache from Settings, did I wipe the cache but just the long way?

I suggest you to use samsung cloud to backup application data such as launcher and contacts, sms etc.. (there is option for this if you search for backup option in your device) and to backup on SD card the rest as for example images, music etc..
So last thing you have to do is factory reset your phone.
There is the option for this also from settings.

I'm another user who experienced ridiculous battery drain after updating to the Samsung stock Oreo. After the update (without a factory reset) I was experiencing very high drain - the battery usage was reporting Cell Standby as the cause (not sure this was accurate). I installed a slightly later ROM FXXU2ERF4, which seems to have improved the drain. Unfortunately I'm experiencing call quality issues with the 'modem' package in all Oreo versions I've tried. I can't seem to find a version where the call quality is OK - so I'm a bit stuck for now. Hopefully improved in the next version
Edit: unfortunately in my case, a factory reset (on the previous ROM) did not fix the battery drain issue, only the newer Oreo firmware. . sorry to say

I will wait for others to confirm this, for now I successfully came back to Nougat version and all it's fine, except you know.. the Oreo things

Google Duo

Anyone having issues with Google Duo crashing? I have cleared cache and data for the app and cleared phone cache -- no help
Considering factory Reset but would hate to do that unless I have to

I use it often with no crashes
Nope.
Not sure what happened
Ended up factory resetting. All is well now
I had a bit of an issue today, but it may have been due to the other party's connection/phone.
I could see the other person and they could see me but there was no audio for either of us. I reinitiated the duo video call and everything worked fine. *shrugs*
Google services were down the other day, I'm not sure if it was the same day you were having issues.

"AND I HAVE THE SNAPDRAGON VERSION"
"AND ON VERSION 10.5.00.82"
Try clearing the system cache and a hard reboot.
Is it in a good case?
May have dislodged a connector or damaged an assembly.

no and no
Have you disabled any apps?
I had a similar issue and it was a Samsung process I had blocked in Package Disabler Pro. Unblocked it and the camera app works perfectly now.
Check any apps that have been disabled
