help me find my perfect phone - General Questions and Answers

got an s8+ before the summer.....good phone, waterproof, good battery....but i'm not taking to it at all...hate the tall 18:9 aspect ratio and the on screen navigation keys.
so...i'll ask here what phone should i look to...
need a big screen....5.5"...better 5.7" or best of all a big 6" screen....but in traditional 16:9 wider ratio......dont mind big bezels at all.
need it to be ip68 waterproof
need an fm radio
need optical stabilisation on the camera
need an sd card slot
need hard capacitive navigation keys rather than on screen
need a battery life thats not poor.
all them things are commonplace on phones these days, but i'm finding it hard to get all that on one phone.
and...thanks in advance for any replies*

Thoughts on Motorola's "Edge to Edge" Screen?

I was following the live blog today on the new Razrs, as I was with Verizon and wanted one when they came out, but moved to ATT and got the Skyrocket instead. Which I have not to this day regretted, as it is the most complete package in a phone I have owned. So much so that i have felt little desire to upgrade to anything new, including the GS3. Especially including the GS3, which seems to follow this new trend of incremental design and feature upgrades.
I've been waiting for some entirely new feature to catch my attention, as NFC and SAMOLED and actually usable cameras did before. The edge to edge rumors really piqued my interest, as I have recently been struggling to understand the need for the top and bottom bezels to be so large, especially since ICS and up has on screen navigation keys which are, to me, exactly the kind of intuitive and unique feature Android should be shooting to incorporate across the range.
Anyhow... the Razr M's Edge to Edge screen is not impressing me. I compared bezels and it appears only slightly smaller than our skyrocket's bezels, not to mention still having that pointless bezel up top and bottom. Any opinions?
On a side note that new iPhone screen looks rediculous. Let's copy Android's 16:9 ratio but leave the gigantic bezels that Android doesn't even exaggerate that much anymore. Or Since 2011.

No side-bezel is stupid because everytime you pick up your phone you'll be tapping something. Also, top/bottom bezel is important.. not useless. There's a camera, microphone, speaker, and light sensors there.
Edge to edge screen......very interesting, only thing is the top and bottom bezel is required for proximity sensor and other sensors as well as camera. The onscreen capacitive buttons doesn't sound that bad but I like them off the screen. Just personal preference.

Well, it is really not "edge to edge":

Well then if I continue to see this crap about "reported" it will be considered as trolling, breaking the rules!, so just report (if you really do report at all) and wait for us to action. Thread locked as this topic has nothing to do with Sky Rocket.

LG G3 screen problems after replacement

Hi, we replaced a LCD screen for a LG G3 which had been cracked.
After replacement it starts up ok with the LG logo clearly shown across the whole screen (see pic 3), however after booting up the display then shows half a screen striped and the other half flickers or splits into multiple screens. (see pic 1 and 2) Touchscreen is responsive and works like it should. Only display is the problem.
The old LCD screen was tested and still displays almost normally but with the odd stripes throughout and obviously, being in a million pieces, the old touch screen was unresponsive.
Any ideas if this is a faulty screen we bought? as we are a bit confused at how it looks fine during boot up, or is it a problem with the other hardware? but would the old screen still display pretty well if that was the case?
Any ideas, suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!
(it wont let me post links yet so my pics are located here and just needs the https and www placing infront )

That is more than likely hardware damage, the camera hardware itself or the camera lens is probably damaged. Scratches or nicks in the glass covering the camera lens, would cause these artifacts to appear in your photos. One of my devices has a scratch that appears as a blue line in photos taken with that device.
Yours looks like granular nicks or scratches in your glass, probably caused by contact with sand at some point.

Galaxy S8 Camera Yellow Circle Distortion

Ok so I'll try and explain this the best I can...
My camera with my S8 has a yellow circle that will focus on the face. Problem is, when its circled my face it makes it bigger(like fatter/wider) then smaller(skinnier/more narrow) and when it finally settles its either made my face look super wide or super skinny, distorted. It happens EVERY time I use my front facing camera and its a toss up which way it will go each time.
I couldn't find anything online describing what I've got going on...but from what I have gotten is that its the cameras focus I'm talking about, not some extra app I've downloaded. Is there any way to turn it off or change the settings?

Please help chosing a phone that dont make face droopy and longer

Hi
Can you please recommend me a phone that wont distort my face a lot and wont make It look long and droopy?
I know all phones have some face distortion of the front camera, but my last 2 phones Xiaomi Redmi 7 and Huawei P9 Lite Make a huge distortion and deform the face. They make the face very long and like if I have a square jaw and droopy lower face jowls. I Am 21 Years old so i don't Have any jowls or droopy face in real life, I even visited a plastic surgeon who told me my face looks fine, and it is phone distortion. I hace try my front camera on my parents and friends and it distort and deform their faces too.
The distortion is very big, not just a Little bit, and it is happening on videos with the front camera as well.
I have not been able to upload pictures to my Instagram due this problem for the Last 2 Years.
I want to change my phone, but I dont want this problem happening again, and I dont know which phone should I buy., I want a phone that take normal pictures, so I can use them in social media.
The only feature I care about the phone I want to buy is that it does not deform the face extremely, and it does not elongate it, I dont care about any other feature.
I hope someone can advice me, thanks in advance.
Change the shot angle and/or distance.

Thanks , I have try with all shot angles and distances ( desperate not to be able to upload a single picture on Instagram, so I spent many hours taking pictures from all angles and distances) , and it does not help, even with a selfie stick it make the head and the face super long and skinny ( both Xiaomi and huawei phones), the face look more like an ugly cartoon than like a normal girl. I am sure it is a lens problem, as I never had that problem with any of my previous phones. That is why I want to buy a new one. The faces of instagram influencers are not elongated or deformed, so there must be some brand phones that dont cause that problem. Even if I try an Instagram vídeo with ig filter the face look distorted.

Absolute correct: It's never the camera what malfunctions, but depending on the lighting or distance from the camera, one looks different.
It is due to the inability of OP to photograph properly.
OP should use the rear camera, move away from the camera and zoom in 2x-3x, then the elongated face will disappear.

That is interesting, but i need a phone that I can use the front camera, as I want to use real time filters and real time digiital make up while I do videos, and see which poses and facial expresions am I doing before taking my pictures, I dont want to take pictures with the rear camera, and mostly any girl use rear one when taking pictures and videos for social media, and my other previous phone did not have this problem, so I am sure some phone brands dont distort the face as much as my Xiaomi and Huawei. I had a Sony Xperia before that took nice pictures with the front camera.
I will try moving the camera away and zoom it, but still want a new phone that dont distort so much.
Thanks

When you take a photo of yourself using some ( but not all ) apps or the front-facing camera on a phone, the resulting image captures your face as others see it: it's not the image you see when you look into a mirror.
That's why so many people are horrified when they see photos of themselves.

This is not the case of my phone problem, as I have had tons of mobiles sinceramente I was 10 years old, and I am used to see myself in pictures. I am not comparing myself with the mirror image!!!! I look fine on my friends phones and in my previous phones, my mom has the same phone than me and have the same problem, she takes pictures fron my aunty phone to be able to upload them.
I am not asking how to fix the phones cámaras, I am just asking which brand and model dont have this problem to buy it, the distorsión on my phones is not just a little bit like the pictures you uploaded, it is a huge distortion, whhen my friends try my phones it distort their face big time too .
Any young girl and many middle aged women spend really a lot of time taking selfies, so we all know how we normally look in phones. It is not my first phone or the first time I take a front camera picture as to freak out cos I look different than the mirror.
I upload a picture ,( not me, but a guy who wortte an article about this subject) but an example of my problem.
My face in other phones look maybe like the 2nd picture, on my phone it looks completely distorted ( not a bit) like the Last picture of the guy. And uy look like that fron far away too. not only in me, buy anyone using my phone look deformed in the picture or video.
I just want a phone that the lens is not so screw up that deform the face completely.

Good morning, XDA universe! Allow me to commence the day with a radio... hmmm... Moderator Announcement!
Within less than 12 hours after the last thread cleaning by my esteemed team mate @mrjuniork I had to clean it again! And believe me, enough is enough!
Members, and it doesn't matter if mature, long-time or really new ones, who post a question do that because THEY have a quite often serious problem that might be none for others or could be neglected in other member's views.
But we're happy that new people permanently find their way to XDA in order to ask their questions and to seek support here. We do encourage this!
10. Help others if you can.
If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do so. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably quite a few people with less experience than you, who could benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.

If you can't or don't want to follow above guidance just move on without posting. But if you post do it without making jokes of the enquirer or by belittling somebody. Be aware that both can be read as disrespect towards a XDA member and might lead to consequences to an account.

@Sonia2001 A very warm welcome to XDA; I do hope that you always get the support and assistance you require although you obviously currently have a different impression. Please consider to have a look at some other threads in this forum or all the other Q&A fora and see that usually the expectations of the authors are met. I'm convinced this will eventually also the case for your current one but also for all your future threads.
I'm very and honestly sorry to read your decision especially after you just joined yesterday. I'd really appreciate if you reconsider your decision. It's indeed as you stated you can't delete your account; even a moderator can't do. It always requires an administrator for that.
