Note 8 port roms - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

I am on weta Ron and I am considering flashing Note 8 port ,is it worth it and what is the difference between s8+ roms and note 8 ports
Thanks

7.0 vs 7.1.1 7.0 Bluetooth implementation make gmap not able to set "don't use bluetooth for navigation voice". With 7.1.1, this option will be back for you to set. Same version of gmap app, it is based on BT API to device to office this option or not.
Besides this, all the feature I used is in both 7.0 and 7.11. I am sure there is new things in 7.1.1 but I don't know and don't use them.
BTW, I tried bunch of Note 8 ports ROM in my S8+. All of them does not offer "Quick Charging". The max charge rate I got is 5V 1.1A. The same charger/cable do fast charging with AQH3 7.0 ROMs.

PH-1 has Alternate Mode over Type C = watch movies over USB to a monitor

I just tested for Alternate mode over Type-C, to test for audio and video over DisplayPort. BINGO!
What we need
1. Essential PH-1 phone - Android version 7.1.1 - with screen rotation enabled on the phone
i. Tap and hold on the Home Screen
ii. Click - Settings
iii. Enable "Allow Home screen rotation"
i. Settings - Display - When device is rotated - Rotate the contents of the screen
2. USB Type C 3.1 cable capable of 5 amps support (can supply up to 100W power)
see https://plus.google.com/+BensonLeung/posts/eqJQbujcikq
May or may not work with a Type C 3.1 cable capable of only 3 amps. Don't have a cable to try.
Will not work with a Type C USB 2.0 cable - typical charging cable - not enough wires in the cable
I believe there is total of 6 different USB Type C cables available, the 3 listed below, with either 3 amp or 5 amp features
i. USB 2.0
ii. USB 3.1 Gen 1 - up to 5 Gbps
iii. USB 3.1 Gen 2 - up to 10 Gbps
3. A monitor with a USB Type-C 3.1 input - LG 4K Ultrafine Monitor
Don't have any knowledge, with respect to Thunderbolt 3 input monitors
e.g. LG 5k Ultrafine Monitor
Not all phones have a USB Type C with 3.1, Gen 1 or Gen 2. Most have only USB Type C 2.0 - cheaper components
Enjoy!
Does the Essential support a USB-C --> HDMI connection?
I think that some do, and obviously the iPhones have simple Lightning to HDMI connectors...

Yes it does. I even tested a USB-C --> VGA cable at work the other day and it worked fine.
Anyone got a link to a USB-C-->HDMI connector that they know works with this phone?
That was a real bummer with the Pixel line, that they don't support HDMI output at all. I am glad that this one does. Now I just need to know which connector to buy from Amazon...

I just ordered this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07519HH4H/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I will let you guys know how it works.
This phone just keeps aging better and better, company did things right with the hardware. Very good news

Ok, that USB-C>HDMI adapter that I listed above from Amazon, works like a champ! Just plug it in and go, your phone's display instantly pops up on the monitor or TV.

Thanks; looks ideal for short uses only as you can't charge simultaneously.

Essential PH-1 with Samsung Dex Station
Hi All,
My Essential PH-1 works perfectly with the Genuine Samsung Dex Station as long as you use the Essential or Samsung Adaptive Charger cable connected to the dock.
The only item I could not get working consistently was the Ethernet connection - but all else worked perfectly.
HDMI out a 4K resolution (2160P)
2 x USB 2.0 ports
Quick Charge while docked ....
Temperatures remained stable at around 45-55 degrees Celsius while driving the external display.

Now all I need is a reliable Lineage 14.1 OS port with the Auxens OXI desktop embedded for this phone to easily rival my S8 in overall functionality and performance. The Sentio app I am using now is good - but not 100% there yet as it doesn't handle the screen properly due to the camera notch ... and the DPI settings are a bit wonky - but do work.

Auxens OXI looks pretty sweet. Is someone working on a Lineage port w/Auxens OXI or is that just a wish list request?
This will come in handy watching Vanced YouTube without ads
If you're wanting this functionality and are not on Oreo yet, wait to upgrade. Just got this nice detailed response from Samantha @ Essential CS: "While the Essential phone does support this capability, please note that DisplayPort™ is currently only working on devices with Android Nougat, not Android Oreo 8.0. Although the Essential phone is currently running on Android Nougat, we have plans to release Oreo 8.0 within the next several weeks. This is an developer issue across all devices, so unfortunately we can't control when a software fix will be implemented."

Yeah I bought the Belinda USB c HDMI adapter as linked to from Amazon and it works for like 2 minutes but then randomly cuts off totally. I'm unfortunately on Oreo b3.
Anyone who was using this before on nougat, test this on Pie? Not sure if this was covered or not.

Pie does support it. If you have access to another adapter, I'd test it on the Essential. My PH-1 had faulty hardware preventing HDMI output last spring. I had to get it replaced to get it to work.

pixel 3 desktop mode

Any chance that the desktop mode on android q be supported by pixel 3? Knowing that there is no HDMI out for pixel 3, would Google be able to enable HDMI out via a software update? Alternatively, can we use casting to enable the desktop mode on a secondary display with a Chromecast?
Now that Android 10 is available on Pixel 3 and 3 XL, can someone try a USB-C to HDMI adapter with Android 10 update to see if Google has activated HDMI over USB-C for Desktop Mode ? Thank you in advance guys ?
Disappointing, doesn’t do anything here. Never heard anything again about Desktop mode, except of the beginning of beta1.
@trinec it does work on OnePlus 7, 7 Pro and Essential Phone since Android 10 update, you just have to enable 'Force desktop mode' in Developer Settings, restart the phone and plug a USB-C to HDMI adapter

Enabled it, pluged it into a usb-c hdmi adapter: didn't do anything.
On the Oneplus 7 it seems to be pretty bad compared to Samsung Dex. So we are only missing out on google style alpha version of a desktop mode.
Thank you @madphone ! All Pixel smartphones (1, 1XL, 2, 2XL, 3, 3XL) have USB 3 except 3a and 3a XL which have USB 2 so Google could activate USB-C to HDMI support with a simple OTA update like LG did with Android 9 update on LG G7, V35 and V40 but they don't, for sure they want you to buy a chromecast but it has a way too high input lag in comparison to USB-C to HDMI adapters. Maybe it could be enabled with an alternative ROM but more and more Android smartphones are becoming compatible with HDMI adapters, soon all Android flagships will support HDMI except Pixels. High end smartphone (price) with low end capabilities, I think that's an enough reason for not buying it.
If you want an improved Desktop Mode on OnePlus 7 more similar to Samsung Dex you can install Sentio Desktop https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sentio.desktop

No, the Note 10 lite is not DeX for PC compatible!

It's better than the more expensive Note 10 phones because it has a 3.5mm headphone jack and a non-curved screen. It's also far less expensive.
It's better than most other phones because it has the S-Pen (which I personally consider to be super useful on on my Note 8).
All in all, it looks like a great phone that offers the best combination of features for the price, especially to those who want a stylus.
So what?
Did I said anything about good or not good? I said it is not DeX compatible.
Btw. I tested this by myself, with my very new Note 10 Lite, coming from a Note 8.

As an owner of the Note 8 who is really impressed by the Note 10 Lite specs/price I'd be very curious to hear more details about this upgrade. What are the biggest advantages and compromises from your point of view?
Front camera sucks.. exchange my note 8 with note 10 lite and it is one of biggest mistake of my life.. performance is definetly better but the feel of curved screen I miss most.. note 9 has much better camera. I suggest to buy note 9 instead of note 10 lite
I am also interested by the Dex feature on this phone. But first as anyone tried to plug this phone a usb c to HDMI on a screen/TV ? I've read somewhere that the USB port does not handle HDMI output....
OK I tried some dongle and there is no HDMI out, like I read here and there on the web (USB-C 2.0 not 3.0).
So I'm wondering if it would be possible to port the new dex that is working over the air.
It is available on Note 20 on the One UI 2.5 update. Any idea ?

No! it doesn't work... it just got the support for USB C HUB's (hubs that have Ethernet, tons of usb ports, memory card readers, usb c power delivery...), but the video output (VGA or HDMI) does not work!!!
I just tried something that might work as DeX... I plugged in the USB C Dock(conected to the hub a wireless keyboard and mouse, ethernet and Power Delivery ) to the Galaxy Note 10 LITE, then I turn on Smart View to broadcast to the TV and I got a experience like DeX on the TV!--- Floating Windows, independent application view, etc---
I'm wondering if the Galaxy Note 10 LITE is not supporting the USB 3.0 just because of lack of the USB 3.0 drivers(ANDROID INTERNAL USB DRIVERS FOR HARDWARE), the Galaxy Note 9 uses the same Exynos 9810 chipset and supports USB 3.0 video output!!!

Can you tell me what Hub are you using ? Does the power delivery work well ? I was just thinking about bying one of those HUB actually...

My guess is, it's not a driver thing but hardware to limit cost. Note 10 lite is not considered as a High End device. That's why we don't get all the good stuff.
I'm gonna try to get my hand on the latest Dex APK and try to decompile and patch it so maybe we can use it on our device wirelessly. But, hey, I'm not an expert so donc expect me to find out any time soon.

I bought the Dodocool 14 in 1 USB C HUB... you can use the ethernet port and works really well, plug a wireless reciever, usb 3.0 or 2.0 and can work together, SD cards too... I haven't try the USB C Data port, all let you know when I test it... and the Power Delivery, I conected the wall charger that came with the Note 10 lite, to the PD port of the HUB and started to charge the phone...
This is the most important feature for a DEVELOPER TO CREATE FOR NOTE 10LITE!
Hardware wise is capable, but SOFTWARE is not permitting this feature. I hope that a DEVELOPER will be so kind to HELP on that!!!
Any app which can be used an alternative for dex?

Tablet with OTG+Charge

Can anyone please help me with searching of tablet which simultaneously can charge and support keyboard+mouse.
I bought a Type-C hub ( https://www.klick.ee/swissten-usb-c-hub-8in1-with-3x-usb-3-0 ) and it works perfectly with my Samsung Galaxy S20, but my Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 (2020) doesn't want to charge with it (keyboard and mouse are working when adapter is not attached).
Any ideas why this happening and what tablet can you advise to me?

Looking at the A7 specs and the S20 specs, you would notice two differences:
The A7 has a USB-C 2.0 port while the hub is a USB 3.0 hub (probably 3.1 or higher). Massive difference in capability. There are other hubs that could work, but those don't support ethernet at the same time.
The S20 supports USB on-The-Go, the A7 doesn't (at least not officially anyway).
Conclusion: Buy any Tablet from a reputable Vendor with a USB 3.0 (preferably 3.1 or higher) and an Official USB OTG certification. The rest is how much you want to pay .

Thanks for an answer!
The thing is that I tried same hub with SM-T510 (specs) and works with this tablet. I also was yesterday at the Samsung shop and vendor tried original HUB and it also didn't work. One guys on reddit told:
"CorgiLover234 I have the exact same problem. I have two QGeeM hubs that both support OTG+Charge on my S20, but neither one supports charge on my Tab A7."
So, seems that it is problem exact of this model...

weird sound issue

Hello everyone, I have a very very annoying issue with the headphones + amp / DAC connected with the mobile phone ( fold z 4 )
I have little hopes to find a fix, but it's worth trying.
So, let's explain what is about.
I'm using the headphones Denon D9200 ( wired ) + the Signature amp / DAC connected to the mobile phone.
micro iDSD Signature by iFi audio - Supercharged desktop and transportable USB DAC and headphone amp
Our iDSD Signature Dish Supercharged desktop and transportable USB DAC and headphone amp that will take your tunes to the moon and back.
ifi-audio.com
https://www.denon.com/en-us/product/over-ear-headphones/ah-d9200
After listening some time on YouTube, the signal from the Signature is gone and the mobile phone speakers are active, not the headphones
I tested on different mobile devices. Here are the results.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 ultra : after less than 5 minutes, same issue.
Android 13, One UI 5.0
Samsung Galaxy Z fold 4, same issue.
Android 13, One UI 5.1
Google Pixel 2 XL, no issues
Android 8.1, rooted phone, but the sound quality is far far away behind , from everything else I used as mobile device.
Low volume, no matter I do, and it sounds like I'm using some cheap amp / DAC device
IPad Pro 12.9 ( tested on 3 different devices, 2018, 2020 and 2021 )
No issues at all. The sound quality and the loudness level is the best I've ever heard with the Signature + Denon d9200
That's a mistery for me. I thought, the Signature is doing the job, not the mobile device or the OS
USB C is on all devices ( iPad pro, Android phones, Android tablet )
PC Windows 10, no issues at all
Laptop Windows 10, no issues at all
Samsung Galaxy note 10 and Note 9 ( didn't check the Android and One Ui version )
Same issue
It's hard to say but it might be Android ( latest versions ) the culprit.
Google Pixel 2 xl is using Android as well but some older ( 2018 ) version and with custom ROM + custom kernel
Hopefully, someone here who read this post, with the Signature and some newer Android devices, could give me some advices
Thank you
LE : from the Signature to the mobile devices, it's a cable USB A with an OTG adapter to USB C
That's the only way I can connect it with the USB C mobile devices.
Just did another test, for about one hour with Samsung Galaxy Note 10 plus
Android 12, OneUI 4.0
Not a single issue.
Android 13 is the culprit. Not the cables, not iFi Signature.
With Android 13, they added the headphones icon when headphones are connected and the volum button is used
Android 12, classic, without the headphones icon
I wonder what exactly could be done about this
There must be a way to fix it
Any advices, guys??
