FRDL09 B389 Nova launcher app shortcuts not working - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Trying to use app shortcuts with Nova Launcher (got prime) and the Google apps are the only apps that shows shortcuts when long pressing the icons.
Is this a limitation in Emui?

Nope it's just that other apps didn't bother updating to support it.

Try with Twitter and see if it does work. If it does then, the apps you tried don't have that feature

Is it possible to create folders in the app drawer?

I know that one of the changes coming from Gingerbread to ICS is the app drawer, and the impossibility of creating folders in it. I'm wondering if there are any hacks, mods, apps, launchers or other that make this possible. I've got SO many apps and not having any way to organize them except alphabetically seems very inefficient. I know I can create folders on the homescreens and store apps in there, but that makes the app drawer kind of pointless then, doesn't it?
Thanks.
GoLauncher is the only launcher that I'm aware of that will allow folders in the app drawer.

Well that stinks. I've been hooked on Apex ever since getting my HOX, rooting, unlocking the bootloader and installing custom ROM's. I've read in several places that while GO Launcher is quite cool, it's a bit of a memory/battery hog.
you can create folders with nova launcher too in the prime version
You can in apex too, just get pro version.

Didn't know that about Apex, gues it doesn't always pay off to be a cheap ass
I still feel that Apex is better than Nova however.

Can you explain how? I have the pro version. I don't see how you can create folders in the app drawer.... Only on the homescreens. What am I missing?

In Nova, you have to go into the launcher's settings and create/configure the folders from there. It could be the same in Apex as well.

No such function in Apex. At least not in their latest version.

[Q] alternate ways to launch Google Now?

I am currently launching Google Now by long-press-home. Is there some 1x1 shortcut or something I can make as an alternate?
JB 4.1 based ROM, FWIW.
Thanks,
AJ

HY,you can always use the search bar i guess is 4x1 but does the job.
There should be an icon labeled "Google" in your app drawer. You may drag it to the home screen and start Google Now from there.

Thanks. I will try these suggestions.
I didn't think the "Google" app would launch Google Now, but I obviously didn't try it.

[A] Google Now - active listening on home screen

Google Now works great when I click on the homepage search bar that opens the Google Now screen but is one of you able to get Google Now to listen actively on the home screen to: OK Google, followed by a voice command? I am using the ViperOneM8 rom and Open Mic+ for Google Now does not seem to work
As a one step workaround I use Nova launcher and swipe up to start Google Now but like the active listening functionality.
Google's Home Launcher offers this. I use it.

Thank you for your suggestion, David but I like to keep Nova as my launcher instead of changing to the Google Home/Now Launcher.

It wasn't really a suggestion.. The Google Now Launcher is what does it.

There's currently no other way to get the always listening behavior on the homescreen.

But to use Google Home/Now Launcher.:good:
Good news! Nova Launcher has been updated and now supports the "OK, Google" hot voice word on every launcher screen.

There is also an Xposed module (search OKGoogle) for this...
Almost every third party launcher now supports this. I'm using smart launcher and I have always listening on.

Android O Public Beta - Google Play forces apps on home page?

I decided to try the beta on my personal Pixel and it's been good for the most part. I'd say very stable for daily use.
However I've noticed I can no longer stop apps from making a shortcut on my home page. So if I install 20 apps I'm forced to grab them and remove them.
Anyway to stop this or is this the way Google is going with O?

In playstore-settings - uncheck add icon to home screen

Its on the launcher settings now. Pinch out on launcher, tap settings, and the option is there.

Why, the way I do it works fine, first thing I open after install (playstore) to stop automatic updates, then install my launcher, and delete the Google launcher, it's all good man
