Nova Launcher or any other Custom Launcher really

Anyone using a custom launcher in place of sense? Just curious what other people are using and why...

Nova launcher
Customization, and the option to hide the dock if I chose.
M8, nuff said.

Nova, mainly for gestures.

Nova launcher is by far the best I've used it on my maxx hd and using it now on the M8 and it's good I like the customization it has it's just good nuff said..

Nova here too. I am comfortable with it, it is extremely fast, and I can make it act exactly how I want.

I switch back and forth from nova and themer

I use Nova.. turned on wallpaper scroll but doesn't seem to work.. anyone else get the wallpaper to scroll?

Aviate here. I've tried to warm up to BlinkFeed but I guess I don't feel like I need all that content on a home screen. Aviate has been my goto launcher for a while now...

There's an option to "force" wallpaper scrolling in the settings and that is what you need. For some reason all of the HTC devices I owned required this?

I'd like to use Nova and still have access to blinkfeed. Creating a shortcut to it like you could do with the M7 isn't working on the M8's software.

I've got it working on my M8 with Nova, Follow these instructions and when choosing the activity choose the category HTC Blinkfeed, then choose the HTC Blinkfeed that has 'Launcher' written below it.
To get access to Blinkfeed with one of these launchers, follow these steps:
1. Clear the defaults of the current default homescreen launcher. This is done under SETTINGS/APPS. Click on the default launcher. Scroll down and find the clear defaults button. Click it.
2. Press the home key. You should now have a choice of which launcher to use. Select HTC Sense.
Click "One Time Only".
3. Delete all home screens except blink feed. Clear the apps out of the dock. (Optionally you can keep the homescreens and icons in the dock if you wish, deleting them makes a clean Blinkfeed only setup that I prefer).
4. Press Home. This time choose you preferred launcher and tap Always. This should take you to your home screen under the new launcher.
5. Create a custom shortcut. In most launchers you long press the homescreen and choose add or add shortcut. When asked to what you want to create a shortcut you will be choosing an Activity, not an App.

Just installed Nova and love it. Its the closest to stock android IMO. Plus I now can scroll left and right on the app drawer lol. Scrolling vertically was driving me nuts for some reason.

Maybe in in the wrong place but this is all I see... Not sure where to force that...

I don't currently have it installed but there should be an option somewhere in the settings to force it. I will get back to you...
should be here: Nova settings > Desktop > wallpaper scrolling > force ( try a beta version of Nova if one is available?) They may have taken this option out?

They may have removed it.. I only have On/Off/Reverse.. I'm a member of the beta so I'll check in there..

Wonder why they would have removed it though... Damn them!

play around with the settings but I am pretty sure if you set it as a live wallpaper in the settings it will make the wallpaper scroll. Let me know as I am curious too.

[A] Google Now - active listening on home screen

Google Now works great when I click on the homepage search bar that opens the Google Now screen but is one of you able to get Google Now to listen actively on the home screen to: OK Google, followed by a voice command? I am using the ViperOneM8 rom and Open Mic+ for Google Now does not seem to work
As a one step workaround I use Nova launcher and swipe up to start Google Now but like the active listening functionality.

Google's Home Launcher offers this. I use it.

There's currently no other way to get the always listening behavior on the homescreen.

Good news! Nova Launcher has been updated and now supports the "OK, Google" hot voice word on every launcher screen.

There is also an Xposed module (search OKGoogle) for this...

Almost every third party launcher now supports this. I'm using smart launcher and I have always listening on.

[Q] VPN shortcut, how to?

Does anyone know how to add a shortcut for my VPN service (built in) to the homescreen? Default launcher.

I look for the same, but cant find solution at the moment

The OpenVPN app works better and it has shortcuts.

With Nova launcher, I can have the shortcut on my desktop without it, but it's buried too deep in settings I always forget how to get there.

No, we can't! I tried! I went back to the previous version 5.2! These navegation bars on screen really makes me nervous! Burn-in is a matter of time! I honestly did not like their response!

Any launcher able to do this anymore?

I will stay at the previous version 5.2 that is working fine for now! But if they don't fix it i will look for another one!

mine just auto updated when I was reading this thread. lol ..
how can you switch back to 5.2 ? I downloaded from apkmirror but cannot install. need to uninstall first?
I can see that when in nova/home, the dot for show/hide navbar is gone, and navbar will always show.
but in other apps, it will follow hide/show setting and dot is there.

There's 2 ways
Native settings in display, and finding a theme that does transparent bars

I'm using Nova Launcher Prime 5.3 too and my navbar is still transparent on homescreen.
In addition i can hide navbar too with the dots, so i don't know what's your problem at all.
Its working like all the time before.

It's transparent but there isn't any point to hide.
I don't hide that anyway so no problem for me

You have to activate the point in navbar settings first.. i have the point and hide is working fine..
EDIT: okay, you're right, point is only visible in apps and settings, not on homescreen itself.

The dot is working in the apps, but not in the homescreen anymore. Just updated Nova.

Suggest you *ALL* contact the dev, and leave negative reviews on the app store or youll be stuck with it like that forever. It is sheer stupidity. Most people use nova for the customisation, removing the ability to do this is pretty stupid.

2 other ideas
1, does anyone know a transparent dark theme that would take care of this problem
2, any other launcher with this much power that would keep doing this

Can use adb to hide navbar even in nova launcher.

Guys we are talking about the navbar on home screen, okay? I see that it works in apps and settings! Yes. I know the navbar can be transparent. But the discussion is not about it! Burn-in is alive and I want to avoid the problem!

1 - Backup first
2 - Uninstall Nova 5.3
3- Install apk Nova 5.2
4 - Restore your backup

FRDL09 B389 Nova launcher app shortcuts not working

Trying to use app shortcuts with Nova Launcher (got prime) and the Google apps are the only apps that shows shortcuts when long pressing the icons.
Is this a limitation in Emui?

Nope it's just that other apps didn't bother updating to support it.

Try with Twitter and see if it does work. If it does then, the apps you tried don't have that feature
