Hello, New to the forums and to the android OS. I bought my Nexus S recently (had a blackberry bold), called t-mo to switch me to the nexus s compatible data plan on jan 22nd. It is now Jan 26th and they still haven't gotten me data! I called several times, but all they tell me is that a ticket has been issued (on the 22nd) and that their hoping it can get resolved soon! My account is in perfect standing, I would like to know why their taking so long to hook me up to data...all I can use right now is wi-fi. just wondering if you guys have any Ideas whats happening on t-mo's side, or if you guys had a similar experience that would help me resolve this issue?
thanks in advance.
Check your apn settings. I never had to switch to internet plans even though they tell me. I just take my sim card out a put it in the phone and my internet works. I have done this from sidekicks, to androids to blackberries and more recently between WP7.
They always give me that line about having switching data plans but i never do. I am on an older plan that hasnt been around in like 1yr so Im not sure if its the newer plans.

i've never had that problem with tmobile before, matter of fact they are usually more than happy to set you up with data there and then. When i got my account set up, they added data to my plan withing 15 minutes on the phone with them and then it started working maybe 30 mins right after that. No problems with tmobile on my side. They got the best customer service i ever witnessed for a phone company.
After about the 10th call (literally) they finally added data to my service. I tried to get an explanation but all the rep could tell me was; that her supervisor took the matter to upper division due to so many days with the issue. Enjoying my nexus s to its full capabilities now

Ya, I actually just had an amazing experience. When I set up my account at BB, the rep there somehow set up my wife's line to start data on February 21st, a full month and two days after we got the phone. When we found this out we went to a Tmobile store and they fixed it right up. Cut to today, I realized my wife's phone was showing up under my name on caller ID so I went by a different tmobile store (we happened to be going to a different town the first time so we stopped by the most convenient location) and they told me there was something weird on my account: Apparently, we have free data until February 21st! So we're paying for 750minutes and unlimited texts!
Also, multiple reps looked at her phone noting how cool it was and how awesome it was that it had CyanogenMod on it. Then one of the reps showed me his G2 and his custom rom (can't remember what it was). I showed him mine and told him I had it overclocked to 1.5GHz and he asked to see quadrant....and then his jaw hit the floor. It was really refreshing after hearing the sprint reps I was used to not understanding what FroYo was...
Wayyy cooool! seems like we had the opposite problems. I had no data and you had free data!
went to the store and they're clueless... called customer service and they were even worse... I wonder if verizon is having 4g network issues in LA (north hollywood).
Did anybody here happen to activate their charge today (5/19/11) successfully?
So frustrated that I've had this phone for over 4 hours but I can't even use it!!!!!
Try activating it online.

You can activate at 1-877-807-4646 as well. I got mine on the 18th and had no issues activating it, we are in a 3G area though, the closest LTE to me is in San Rafael, 110 miles south of here.
There seems to be an issue with the Droid Charge's activation. Mine took over an hour to activate. I was at Verizon 30 minutes past close while the sales rep repeatedly rebooted, pulled the battery, etc. Eventually they had me take the phone and see if it would activate eventually, otherwise activate my old phone then come back in the next day to get a new one. Sure enough, fifteen minutes after I left the phone activated and everything's been fine since.
Hopefully you got this working already, but when I picked up a Charge yesterday @ Verizon, the salesguy said they were having problems activating and that it could take maybe 12 hours...? Then he turned it on and it activated right away. Go figure.
Yeah there having a problem with the authentication process when activating, its only happening on the LTE phones, can take 30-45 mins, my old thunderbolt did this the last day i owned it after it decided in needed re-activating after there radio update, and thats exactly what there 4g tech support told me was the problem, he said to restart the phone after 45 mins and it will activate straight away............... which it did which made me happy as i could then return it to the store, sadly i had to get an ipoop 4, and lucky for me i have a friend who`s a rep who got me a return on the iphone for the charge.....which is coming today
3 phones in 34 days lol and no re-stocking fee, THX VZW

It must be mostly in LTE areas, I'm in a non LTE area and mine activated within a few minutes.
I got my charge 8 days ago and in store the rep activated it, it failed, and he just re-did it and it worked. So its clearly a bit screwy right now

My DC just came in! I'm not sure of the cause, but after an hour wait, ED2 install or reboot everything started working. But within that hour I rebooted multiple times before I decided to finally try the update. And when the phone rebooted I finally had data access.
Prior, the phone was able to receive calls just fine, and in About Phone my phone number was displaying properly. The data just wasn't working.
I had in-store issues too, the rep burned through 3 phones and about 6 sim cards trying to get a set that would activate. Finally about an hour and a half in he did. I decided considering I was getting paid by my office to go get a new phone, I wasn't going to rush the guy or act all p'o'ed because he was clearly having issues.
He had mentioned the (above mentioned) fact that it seems like this is something they're running into with LTE phones.
Get a phone call yesterday from the store manager thanking me for my patience, apologizing for the wait again, and letting me know there would be a credit (don't know the amount yet) on my next bill. +1 verizon
I just got my Droid Charge in the mail a few minutes ago and I'm excited to get my very first smartphone started up.
However I read through the activation pamphlet that came with the phone and it wants to me to power off my old phone and call 1.877.807.4646 .... Is there any way to do this online instead?? Once I turn my phone off, I won't have any other way to call to activate

First off congrats!
Yes, that's how I did mine. Just log into your VZW account and click on Activate Device. Then you choose the line you want the phone on and activate the 4G SIM card after.
The website said my settings took and the phone said it was activated; however, my data connection did not start working until after I allowed the update to ED2, an hour later. Coincidence? I don't know. Good luck!
Woohoo, got the phone activated, but I've hit a snag
I can't send texts at all to anybody. I can receive calls, make calls, receive texts, browse the web, and download apps, but sending texts fails immediately.
My service plan has unlimited texting, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Any help?
edit: a simple reboot of the phone and it works fine now
edit again: Well I rebooted, sent one text fine, then tried to send a 2nd and it Failed again
I got everything all setup and working great. Was out last night for a bit and my phone died. Charged it up, turned it on this morning and noticed no emails. Went on my computer and had a few. Looked on my phone and when I clicked on the email app, showed I had to set it up AGAIN!
Put in all the settings again and worked fine all day. Tonight on the way to meet up with friends for dinner, my yet again awesome phone froze and needed to be reset. Came back on and yet again, email settings GONE!
This happening to anyone else? I need to completely unroot and send the phone into Verizon to have it looked at. So annoying, this phone drives me up the wall! LOL
not to mention, data keeps going off.
called Verizon again, 4th time this month and they said "there is nothing we can do." Amazing, spent $300 on a phone that wont send emails or connect to the internet. they told me I can swap out my phone for a refirb for $350

try Lte switch for data outages on the market when 4g is out I was able to get data by setting the radio to 3g only
Sent from my SCH-I510 using xda premium
I have had internet connectivity issues that get cleared up immediatley after i disable mobile data and then re-enable.
It happens when i am in a solid 4g area sitting in the same place surfing the web and my data will just die. and it comes back right up after i disable and re-enable my mobile data.
it also happens when im on the bus going back and forth between 3g and 4g.
is this a normal droid charge issue?
seems like it craps out after about 10 min of surfing every time i remember it happening.
i had this happen when i was stock, after i rooted stock, and now on tweek 2.0
Had that issue yesterday on 4G, and it cleared up the same evening. Occasionally will lose data connectivity on 4G, even with it's still showing the connection. It's not very frequent or consistent, and it seems to have gotten better over time. There is definitely some flakiness on the radios on the Charge. A friend was sitting right next to me on his Spectrum yesterday and wasn't having any issues. I think it's likely related to Verizon network, but I think some phones are more sensitive to it than others.
Yeah, happens to me too. I had to disable/re-enable data at least twice today. :/

hmm.. i did have a few sim issues when i got the phone a week ago, after loading a rom the phone said there was no sim inserted or there was a sim error cant remember which.
maybe swap the sim tomorrow to see if that helps.
sounds like it might be a charge radio issue... i am getting what ever killer phone comes out in a few months anyway. Galaxy s3? HTC one X ? Galaxy Journal ?
Motorola hd ?
re
So i got a new sim..
Nothing has changed.
I have netflix and live in a great 4g area and still have to toggle off data 2-3 times a morning on my bus trip into seattle.
It seems like the radio has a hard time figuring out wtf to do once it comes in and out of 4g. I can be sitting at in traffic for 5 min with no signal and flipping the data on and then off... BAM 4g is back.
This makes for annoying netflix / IT Crowd, viewing.
I am glad that i got this phone as a temp solution cheap from craigslist. Motorola Droid fighter or Galaxy S3 will be putting this lump of mediocre electronics to rest in the next month or so.
What radio is installed on your phone? To find this out go to settings/about phone. The baseband version would be your radio. If it says i510.06V.FP1, that means you are on the most up to date radio. I had similar issues before I updated to FP1 but since then, the 3 or 4G has been very quick to connect and stays reliable all day.
One of my buds works for Vzw and he told me that the 4g network is great when it works. In some places vzw is activating 4g network before the network is ready to be deployed. They are doing this because competition has more 4g coverage.
One solution is to set your phone to 3g only and accept reliable slow sppeds or deal with crappy 4g. Eventually vzw will get it right. Wjen though, is anybody's guess.

So I got news for everyone who is having reception problems on the Verizon Galaxy S3. Just talked to my samsung rep. He said the reception issues on all the verizon S3's are not fixable because its interfering with motorola radios or something. This only affects the s3 for verizon. There is no fix he said. Half of all verizon S3's are affected he thinks if not more. No updates or rpms or radios will fix it. So we should test something. Call verizon and complain and see if they get u an s4 haha
but my signal has always been great..
Yeah gotta say I haven't had any issues. Now my galaxy nexus, yeah that was finicky with signal. My sgs3 has been great. That reasoning sounds odd to me.

I haven't had any issues until now. My 4G has become very spotty at best over the last week. I live in San Antonio and the 4G coverage has been great across the city up until recently.
Currently not being productive on my S3.
See half of the s3's sold for verizon have 4G data problems and reception issues. Depends when you got it mine was the first batch ever made. I work for verizon and see about half come back with reception problems. They halted production I heard
I am on my 3rd s3 because of reception and gps issues. I hate to say this one is working good because I am afraid I will jinx myself in the process.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Gps issues are fixable in some aspect. Tighten screws in the back a half a turn we figured out but the reception is non fixable as thats with the radio on the hardware side of things.
i had a razr maxx hd for a couple of weeks... my s3 gets better reception/signal strength than the razr.
Where I work I have to go outside to make or receive calls or texts.I have one of the newest phones out there but it makes me look like I have a dumb phone with no signal

The thread title is misleading. The problems have not been solved but are known and not correctable, according to your post. The solution you offer is to nag verizon to swap you out for an S4,but no guarantees this will work for anyone or everyone.

I just got off with VZW, The tech went through everything he could pull up on his computer. He finally said to swing into Verizon and get a new sim card.
That was all he could think of. So I'll try that. My phone has become a useless POS since yesterday.
Update:
So I went into the store, they went through my phone and replaced the sim card. Nothing helped. He offered to process an exchange for a refurbished one since I have insurance. I asked if they would give me any discount on the S4 rather than getting a used phone. He said that they have no power ( at the store) and that it would be better to go through Verizon by calling them. I went home, got on my wifi and things started to work better. I downloaded all my apps (after factory reset) and proceeded to set up my phone. I even got off my wifi and it still seemed to work good. But this morning at work, it's turned into a rock again. I've been at this job for a year and a half. I've never had issues. But since the OTA, It's like it's throttling me. I'm wondering if VZW has put something in the last OTA that affects data speeds. I'm currently trying to download one app (Sirius), It's been downloading for 5 minutes already and it's only 1/2 way. Something is up.

Mine has been the last three weeks. They've been working on the problem since. They wrote a trouble ticket. Hopefully they fix it. My phone was solid up until then Was very hesitant to buy a samsung because of this issue.I've had a couple and they were awful. Got the Samsung nexus when it first came out years ago . Needless to day it was returned the next day.

So I had MB1.... Full stock (plus root)...
I went ahead and upgraded using Bean's rooted MD3...
Flashed the MD3 Firmware....
No issues operationally, but I am a big commuter and use mapping a lot.
I noticed that my maps were offline several times into work today...
Having just come from a Thunderbolt, I began paying attention to the 4g... I watched the 4G/3G constantly drop and stall... Having gone through this before on the TB, I did all the network jogs, airplane mode, unfroze all the frozen apps, rebooted, davlik - etc... No joy...
Got home and checked the wife, she and I had same signal strength, just to make sure it wasn't my phone...
Saw the notes on Global to LTE and various other points - including Caller Name ID - tried them all - nothing helped.
For a quick experiment, I flashed just the modem/radio from MB1, understanding the rest of the firmware wouldn't be compatible with the net kernel... Phone functioned, same data issues...
So... I completely reversed my phone back to MB1... Now with a MB1 and a MD3 side by side, I loaded Google maps with traffic on...
The MB1 was near instantaneous with traffic indicators...
The MD3 took a few seconds as it staggered the traffic reports...
Flipped to FaceBook app... The MB1 immediately was lite up with data download/upload... MD3 paused, then started...
Strangely, the signal strength was near exact between the two phones....
But the speed and delay with the MD3 made me wipe off the MD3 and reload MB1... Happy now, without multi-windows...
Next time I'll remember to be more patient and use one phone as the dev for a few days.
I have had 4 different S3's, all of them have had rock solid 4G performance.
As an aside there is growing chatter that the most recent OTA has drastically damaged 4G connectivity. I run Synergy myself, so no OTA for me.
