Anyone else notice the lines hidden in the front glass? It's definitely part of the construction and is impossible to see from the light on the lcd. You can see it if you catch glare from a lightbulb and only on the exact spot of the glare.
Just curious, but to me this looks like a ridging pattern to make the glass strong. Has anyone seen this on other phones or this phone?
I noticed the lines too last night.
Yep but its an LCD panel with Sharps edge technology. Otherwords: it is what it is. The screen looks fake once I turn it on.
sometimes I notice the lines from the touch layer in the right lighting on nearly all my devices... is that what your seeing?

I haven't had a device yet where the sensor could not be seen in the correct light.
Even my Nexus 6P shows lines with light at the correct angle.

I believe so. They are definitely inside the glass. I've just never seen them on another phone. Like I said I cant see them unless it's a direct glare hitting it from a lightbulb or something.

That sounds normal. I don't have the device yet, so I'm just going by my own experience on other devices.
While it is much more distinct on this device. It's normal. I can even see it on my pixel XL if I'm looking for it.

I just recently had an idea about the terrible viewing angle of the Gtab's screen. the basics of a LCD screen is a sandwich of glass, liquid crystal, electrodes, and more glass. but the most important part is the back-light, it allows you to see what is displayed on the glass. the back-light on most monitors consists of a row of LED lights and many sheets of paper that evenly spread and carry that light.
my thought being what if we replaced the the films and papers behind the glass to distribute the light better.
sorry for the long post but i realized this after watching a tare down video of an LCD screen. also after thinking when i turn my gtab upside down i can see it at most viewing angles (seeing as the LED strip is directly shining from that angle)
would this be possible?
how about finding a way to flip the screen around?

Hmm that still doesn't solve the problem. You still get that weird angle in portrate and I don't think the cables would reach from the other side.
Good thought though.
the viewing angle has nothing to do with the backlight. A stronger backlight would be better for outdoor viewing though.

Issue with viewing angle are due to the circular polariser in front of the lcd and also to the material used in the capacitive film, I doubt you will get much by playing with the backlight...
That said the spec of the screen are not the worst I have seen, far from it...

I personally have zero issue with the screen. My Dell Mini 9 is the same way and I just view it head on. When I use my Mini9, I angle the screen to it's perpendicular to my view. I do the same with my Gtab.
Would it be better if it had an IPS with RGB LED backlighting? Yes, but it would also be about $400 more to buy.
That being said, I may ask LG for a sample through work, for one of their new IPS screens, just to see what a difference it makes.

I was just wondering if everyone has the screen rippling issue when u press down on the screen. Also, based on people who have reported this issue, it appears to be a lot more common in white H1X's. Anyone care to share?
I noticed this in the store when initially checking out the phone before buying BUT it only seems to happen on the very edges of the screen and you need to press pretty damn hard to get it to do that. Hasn't actually affected real world usage for me since pressing the screen that hard is never necessary, especially on the outer edges.
Just tested mine out, no matter how hard or where I press I cannot get it to happen even a tiny bit. Apparently it only affects some devices.

I just tried on my phone while it displayed a white image and a black image, and I didn't see anything. But I can do it on my computer and TV. I thought that was typical of LCD displays.

it is, and especially on a phone this thin. I was told an explanation, but I can't remember for the life of me. But I never notice it from day to day use.

I assumed the ripple was because it's a Liquid Crystal Display.
Regardless, I've never seen it on mine. I have the dark grey one. Maybe some units have a thinner panel?
I actually know why this happens with HOX. Anal Torture & Tyranny told me to call HTC about replacing my phone. Talking with them explained my situation.
Phone where the lower right edge sits higher also causing a light leak, also causes the ripple is due to the battery cable inside the phone not sitting flush in the body. Also, there is a gasket that should be internal in the phone its basically electrical tape. Sometimes it rolls up causing the same problem.
Because of the battery cable not sitting flush it adds pressure behind the screen making the liquid crystal more prone to the ripple due to stress. Instead of flush in concave or convex depending on how you look at it.

i've seen this on all 4 devices i've had my hands on, and you don't have to press hard at all to get it.

I recently bought a Oneplus one and am a bit disappointed with the display. Besides having the yellow part at the bottom, when I look a little at it at an angle I see the screen tint to whitish almost blue and this effect increases as my eyes level to the surface, this is best seen by looking from the right corner of the screen with a black background. Is this normal? I only need my head to be slightly away from the screen to notice it. Also I notice light bleed from the top.
Let me know if this is just an effect of the LCD display and if its normal. I've used amoled displays before this.

I don't have this issue on mine. Honestly though, why is it such an issue? The scenario you're describing would just never happen in the normal use of the phone, nobody looks at their phone on such an angle when using it.

Thanks for the quick reply. I do notice it during normal use otherwise it wouldn't be a problem. The phone is on the left side of my computer now and as i'm looking at it I notice the whitish blue tint while using a black background.

Fair enough. Dunno what to say though, I have two of these and neither of them have a tint when viewed on any angles. I initially thought my screen protector might be why but that can't be the case because one of them doesn't have a protector on it.

Mine does have a screen protector on it that was already on it when I received it, could it cause some kind of tinting? I only see it from an angle not if i just look down from the top to the bottom of the phone, then it looks perfect.

It's possible. Those films that come already on the phone aren't actually screen protectors as such, well they're not meant to be used for an extended period of time anyway, they're really just to give light protection during the shipping process. I'd recommend you remove that one and get yourself a good tempered glass protector. The Nillkin 9H is exceptional and it's quite cheap too (less than $10).
I never even noticed this before but I read a thread about it and than I looked at my phone and there is a barely visible light bleed above the light sensor like if it's just light barely peeking thru the glass it's not on the display. It's where the top bezel above the front camera meets the frame. Is this something I should b concerned about. It's only noticeable in the dark. Is it it defected or is it normal.

I have it too with my s8+, there is a little dot on the left side of the device where the plastic connects with the screen.
It's a production variance - you could argue it shouldn't be like that, but you'll never get a perfect phone due to variances in the tolerances during manufacturing... Mine has it too along the side (as did my silver S7 Edge before it).

Depends on if its just light from mossing paint or an air gap.
The front glass is glass so its see through, and then there is a black flim/coating put on it. Then it is glue to the frame of the phone.
So if a piece of the black coating got messed up then your get light showing.
Now if its not glue down all the way and there is a gap then the water proof is gone.
There was a guy on xda that got his coarl blue s7e and one corner was missing some of the blue coating.
I have this light bleed over the iris scanner and the front camera. Then I searched where it comes from. I saw if I had a white screen (for example settings) and a high brightness a big light bleed in the front camera if you look from the top of the phone to the bottom of the camera. There I see light from the screen. It's not a problem for me, but have you guys this too? The question about water resistant is interesting in this case.
hope it's jus paint that is missing. That's fine with me. If it's not glued down right I'm gonna have to go exchange it. I'm gonna have to check it out more and see what it is.
I'm seeing something similar with my unit...but I think this is more of a light reflection off the interior of the case because of the space/void created by the two sensors in that area. I say that because the reflection occurs directly about the sensors and it moves around a bit as you change viewing angle. Am I crazy?
It is a reflection that gets passed on to the IR LED. Not a sensor.
Harmless, and seems to be on all units I looked at.

How bad is your bleed? I JUST noticed today that mine has bleeding on the right edge? But it seems to go all the way down the side? Mostly visible when there is something bright on the screen? There is also a little on the bottom left side of the screen..
So, can we say that the light bleed above the front camera is normal then? I have it too.
I started looking at my phone and it looks like the left side of screen has more black bezel than the right. I will post pics later today. Really upset if this is true. With the 6T I had an issue and the RMA experience is horrible. Post pics of your side bezel so I can compare. Post with case on and off.
I was looking at mine, sorry i cant post a pic. what i think you might be noticing is that the factory installed screen protector is just the tinniest bit to the right. at least, thats what i notice on mine. you cant see it unless you really examine it closely, but the bezels are definitely the same on both sides.

It's seems to be really noticable with white background. Or maybe it's the stock case that cut uneven. Put on your stock case and see if one side of the phone shows more bezel. I am using the clear stock case and that might be the issue.
you might be right. best test i could think of was hiding the navbar, then going into an app where theres a text input box on the bottom. this way, you can compare the curve along the box

This is the best pic I can take off the screen not aligned. Not sure if you can tell but with the bright sunlight you can see where it's misaligned. Left side is off by a bit.
I see what you're talking about, but I do think it's the stock case as well (i'm still using the stock case) and not the phone, because when I take the case off and look at the actual bezel of the phone, it's the same

It was. That's why I sent it back.
If you forward the the 6:10 mark you can see the AMOLED screen is not glued to glass. This issue I have can become very common.
