I know there are a few things no reviewers mention. So, I wanted to know from an enthusiast user
Actually the reviews were pretty much spot on.
If you've seen some you probably know all there is to know.
You definitely need a case/ skin though, thats how slippery the device actually is.
And custom roms are not 100% stable. Don't necessarily expect same features/battery life as on stock
Edit: Unlocking the bootloader can be a pain without paid 3rd party tools. Huawei s Website/login structure is abysmal

The glass is not that scratch resistant
To make things short:
-it's a beast for what you pay.
-video isn't good at low light.
-well optimizes if you're on EMUI.
-magnificent build.
-good development scene.
-excellent battery.

What do you do with your phone? I have mine for 6 months now and I don't have a single scratch ?
Besides, jerryrig did his thing with the h8 and while slightly less resistant than others it still is resistant to most daily threats

I have mine for more than 10 months, little scratches in the bottom back, not that big of a deal.
I just said so comparing to other flagship using GG5 (because honor 8 uses GG3)

you just need to spend a few dollars, probably less than $5 to protect both the front and back from scratches

Me too, android nougat EMUI 5.0
The phone needs a tempered glass if you don't want to get a scratched screen and a case, some bugs can occur because this is emui, and the phone can be warm when you launch games, after all of that, the phone is nice, not a big problem for me, I recommend you this phone

Using the same, EMUI 5 with Android 7.0
I feel the phone got noticeably better in nearly every aspect, even performance, with the upgrade to EMUI 5 and nougat
Mediocre phone, I won't buy from Honor anymore
I really value having an updated phone and they don't bother with development
Camera is great, performance is fine (some of my mostly used apps freeze frequently)
Next time I will buy Nexus or Samsung

i have the honor 8 now for about two month my result:
pros:
-speedy enough - you dont get any more power for the actually money you pay (imo)
-nice camera
-fast charging
-very well designed phone
-fast fingerprint
-nice looking UI
cons:
- i tried some navbar tweaks from playstore and broke some emui-settings (like swipe to mini-view)
they were recoverble by settings-reset
-rare bluetooth-connection-issues
-not found a way yet to remap/add functions to navbar-buttons
for not loosing the design-factor i bought a luphie metal "case" and scratch-res-foil for front and back.
btw in my package from amazone was a transparent bumper included in the honor 8.
(sry for spelling mistakes i guess)

U real? I bought the phone two months ago because of the price-power-ratio.
I don't want a newer phone right now.

If I were in Android 6.0 or below I probably would try magisk, Xposed, Xposed additions...

I am also still satisfied with my honor 8 but, I'm looking forward to get the honor 9 because of the better specs, and I want to try front mounted fingerprint scanner
I got a couple scratches on the back and sides running it naked so I'd advise a case. Had it for 9 months and average 5hr 20 sot. Phone is still snappy and smooth. Branding pisses me off but it's fixable because I'm getting a skin, I just hate people asking me what phone I have because of the honor on it. I assume u know what software ur getting, I'm personally not a fan of emui but Nova launcher is perfect for me. I pretty much made it a pixel now, filled nav bar (theme), Nova launcher customized, Google now cards, assitant and weather/Google widget all without root. I'm starting to love this phone again after what I did to it. It's a good phone, charging could be better but 42 percent in 30 mins is still good.

Amazon recently added a Halo Gray variant to their listings and I know it comes with Alexa that can be removed but would there be any reason NOT to get this color? I wonder if it would be BETTER to get since it's probably a new hardware revision? I know it has the same internal specs as the others but I've heard some horror stories about the initial batch of the black ones and am wondering if that's still a concern.
I'm curious to know your thoughts!

Why wouldn't it be safe to buy? If you get a defective phone Amazon will send you a replacement, then you have 30 days to return the defective phone.

I purchased a black one from bestbuy earlier in the week hoping it was part of the new batch. It was apparently as the speaker grill was metal. But the light bleed was very present on both sides so i returned it. Started reading about the newer batch of phones that fixed the speaker grill are having light bleed issues. So with that said i’m hesitant to buy another. But this Halo grey color peaks my interest and amazons return policy is pretty great. So i’m going to bite the bullet and try the Halo grey.

Good to hear! I have the Black and while beautiful it is a mother to keep clean when not in a case. I'm running Orea B8.1 and hoping the non beta will be out soon and if it is nice and smooth with no hiccups I may get the Halo Gray as well.

I picked up the Halo Grey when it was on sale for $450 and am mostly enjoying it right now. I have never seen any other PH-1 and could not imagine how much of a smudge magnet they must be. Plus the matte has just enough grip to it to keep it from being a wet bar of soap. I upgraded it to Oreo 8.1 within 10 minutes of taking it out of the box and am trying to figure out what the battery life is going to be like.
So yes...go halo!

So 2 weeks later now, How has the battery life been on oreo 8.1 ? getting my essential phone soon. So eager to know whether i should upgrade to oreo or not.
So I am going to call the battery life "acceptable", but not spectacular. I tried out a OnePlus 5T before the PH-1 but could not get VoLTE working on AT&T. That thing seemed to have stellar battery life. The Essential is going into Deep Sleep about 75% of the time according to CPU Spy. All I do is calls/texts and surf the web on mine and I seem to go 2 days before recharging again. The fast charge is damn fast...but I do find myself missing the headphone jack. I needed to plug it in the other day while I was on a call. And keeping up with the stupid dongle is annoying. I did try a cheap used 360 camera and what a total **** show. That thing ate power at a stupid rate, the video/pictures were like meh, and it actually has a tiny fan buzzing away in it....and it still heats up. Overall the phone is solid and built BEAUTIFULLY.
Mine has been great. I love the matte back and its much closer to black than grey. I also wasn't sure about the color of the metal frame from pictures either coming from a black moon I had previously but I really like it in person. Haven't had any quality issues with it.
I will say battery on 8.1 is decent... its nothing spectacular but its more than adequate. Then again I'm coming from a v30 which has possibly the best battery life I've ever had on an android phone.. just a slight step below the mate 8 and mi mix 1.
---------- Post added at 05:24 AM ---------- Previous post was at 05:23 AM ----------
I am just a little bummed that I bought it at $499 and now its $450 with the essential earbuds and amazon refuses to refund me the difference or price match... and I really don't wanna have to go through the whole return and repurchase process just to get that difference back.
So far my battery on the matte gray was stellar. I spent the weekend at my girlfriends house and didnt have to charge it at all. So far so good.

I've had plenty of Sony's in my past, but I am in no way a fan boy. I'm interested in your thoughts, but I give you some things I've found across the 4-5 I've owned;
1) The build quality of Sony devices are typically very good. Just picking them up is a pleasure.
2) You may find the interface interesting at first, but it typically is not far off from stock, and they do have some nice apps. (PS, I miss the tiny apps or whatever they were called).
3) I love the camera button - you'll miss it once you don't have it
4) It seems that volume for music etc is typically lower than on other devices. It used to take rooting and changing build prop etc... to make it LOUD. GSM review seems to like audio on the xz2
5) Updates are frequent
6) Root is easy to acheive, but breaks some things until the wonderful modders get involved and fake the DRM keys
7) #6 makes custom rom's a fools errand early on - Hopefully Trebel helps that and the DRM thing becomes easier
8) If you think the battery will last X, it will shock you how much longer than X it lasts. Sony is PHENOMENAL with power management.

in all recent sony phones unfortunately they use to add some proprietary sw alghoritms for improving the camera performances or other visual things that once you unlock your device's BL get lost. and can't be retrieved anymore or at least it is not very easy (in certain devices you can backup and restore them later, in some others you can't). so basically often if it is not a good choice to unlock the bl to flash a custom rom or even to just root your phone as the camera performances would su*k afterwards.. also because of this development on sony phones is pretty small and slow...
let's see how it goes with this new model, if drm keys will still be there what we would lose exactly unlocking the BL.. hope nothing too important it would be a pity cause with treble support we could expect some more development!
I saw the xz2 compact couple days before first time in local store. was pretty impressed. It was the black one. Looked a bit like a small business phone. I was just to buy a Pixel 2 after i returned my galaxy s9 due to light leak. but i saw it and could play with it a bit and compare with Pixel 2. I was not so impressed by the pictures and thickness of xz2c in the web after announcement but after holding it i can say the design is pretty perfect for me. No sharp edges anymore that are hurting your palm while holding it. The IPS Display was bright, sharp and colorful without oversaturation. The blacks are almost at OLED Level in comparison to my old z3 compact. Whitebalance is perfect and if you dont like it you can change it a bit warmer or colder in the settings. Finally no burn-in danger like on amoled. In my hand it did not seem so thick like on the pictures in the web. IT was comfortable to hold. Fingerprint scanner is much better located on the xz2c than on xz2. its higher and easier to reach. Vibration motor is finally better and not like on xz1c or xc. it was like a crazy bee in the the past. now perfect. Camera is also definetely better. Not on s9 or pixel 2 level in lowlight but really a visible improvement. of course the s9 can get more light at night but for me its ok. but wish it would have dualpixel autofocus. frontcam has also no auto softskin filter applied like in the past. Additionally Dual sim and sd card. maybe some will be able to port the gcam portrait mode to this nice phone. speakers are louder. not perfect like S9 with dolby atmos but a very good solid performance. maybe also someone will be able to create a mod with atmos support. the buttons could be a bit harder. i fear that in your pocket they could be pressed unintentionally. additionally i hpefully also get the hear on headphones or a ps vr in germany. a nice bonus. Android 8 runs perfectly smooth and quick on the device. much quicker than on any galaxy phone.
Finally my long search has now an end. i have returned my Galaxy s9 due to repeating light leaks. xz2c should arrive next week after easter and my z3compact can finally go to well deserved retirement.
Does anyone know if you can change the navbar order still via system ui tuner? would like to have

thanks for sharing your early impressions! sounds good! I too hope I found a nice compact phone again to stay with for some time rather than changing it continuously looking for the best solution  I also had a green z3c which was beautiful, but this time the green version seemed pretty dull on web pictures, so I went for the white/silver one...
but in this nice (ITA) review I saw yesterday, green seems much more vivid and nicer, more like my old z3c! don't know if this is the real green in the end, but if it is, I think it was better than the white :crying:
had you a chance to see from real also the green version? if so how it looked?
btw can't wait to get it.. hopefully in about 10 days maximum from now? :fingers-crossed:

i have the black one lying next to me. its a bit heavy after long term use. wish it would be a bit less heavy. sometime the edges of the usb-c port are irritating my small finger. would be better if sony have moved the usb port to the top.
the bottom mic hole gets sometimes covered by the hand when holding in landscape. on the right side would be better for the hole.
otherwise its a really nice phone. like the frontcam

just got mine and first impressions are.. wow! so beautiful in white and silver color.. really much better than I expected, from the images I was little worried but looks very nice in my hand! doesn't feel too heavy or thick to me, even after applying tempered glass protection and a cheap transparent cover for the back.. and usage with one hand is perfect! so far so good.. will see if I see problems later one.
only down side for me so far is the curved screen, that makes the glass protection to raise a little on the sides :crying: I expected that because of the curved screen, but I bought a smaller tempered glass meant to cover only the flat part of the screen so I hoped it would have been better, but still looks not so nice.. just aesthetic of course but don't like it.. damned curved screens and who invented them!

yeah the s9 feels more balanced since it has 5gramm less and its bigger so the feeling is a bit different. the xz2c feels like a car with very heavy motor in the middle or back.
wonder if sony have put some bricks inside to make it so heavy.

i really like how much easier it will be to carry this phone around while wearing shorts; the note 8 is so large and heavy, my shorts wont stay up, and here is Arizona, you wear shorts every day!!
typing on the small keyboard is sort of a pain too, with my big fat fingers so it will take a while to get used to that too..great sound and great display, thats for sure!

Quite good a phone, I'd say. Switched from an LG V30+
Now am awaiting mods for dual speaker and some custom kernels like Franco kernel to tweak and save some battery.
I too got Mirror black 6gb/64gb on 22nd. Today Amazon also added Rs 1000 cashback.
Waiting for servify adp activation already done with kotal811 thing.
I am waiting for official twrp then only will unlock and root and install my favorite Viper4android.
I pre-ordered the 8GB 128GB version. Loving it so far.
This is a magical experience...
Love it

I think you should unlock atleast.
The longer you wait the more data you have to take backup when unlocking the bootloader as unlocking wipes your phone clean.

Yes will do tonight. Not keeping any data as of now rest photos are on auto backup on mega.
Just now my servify protect got activated.
Ordered 2 cases from Amazon did not like the quality.
Default screen guard is very solid will keep it for as long possible.

Nothing beats Nilkin when it comes to tempered glass
I think OnePlus is perhaps the ONLY phone manufacturer that doesn't void warranty on rooting. I had a pixel 2 and confirmed that even with unlocked bootloader, the phone needs to be back in factory condition for claiming warranty. No brick issues would be entertained then. But with OnePlus, during my time with the OnePlus 5, my computer had a dead SMPS and my phone soft bricked. OnePlus gave warranty and reflashed the phone. I double checked with the service centre about the warranty. They were affirmative that I'd get warranty.

Can you please tell me about its camera? How does it fare when compared with Pixel2. I wanted to take op6, even pre-booked it. But when i saw all the reviews about its camera, didn't find it good with respect to Pixel2.
Also is speaker that bad? People seems not happy about it.
Howz the sound through earpiece during call?
Sorry for so many questions. I wanted to ask from someone who had both the phones.

Pixel 2 camera is better
I have also upgraded from Pixel 2 to op6
Pixel 2 camera and op6 when compared pixel2 fares best specially front potrait.
Software wise oxygen Os isn't that good compared to pixel stock and Android P bugless.
Pixel stereo speakers are treat to ears + call quality is unmatched. Op6 isn't that good when compared but ok.
However I always liked OnePlus display over any other phones.
Further I upgrade every 3-4 months so not an issue, will switch to pixel 3 in September or October.
Also I have Midnight Black 128GB if that matters
Tip- wait for 3-4 months if you are tight on budget and get Pixel 3 or op6t but if you are enthusiastic go ahead

Hey guys...
At what temperature does your OP6 hover at.
I don't play games.
As per cpu-z, mine stays between 30.5 to 39 degree Celsius.
(The temp here in Punjab, India reaches 47).
It feels like warmish after I installed Apple music app yesterday.
Before that didn't feel any warmth.
Thanks.

Now that we have the OnePlus 6 flowing in, let's have our own Indian thread up.
I have a Mirror Black 6 GB variant. Delivered on 23rd May.
Quite good a phone, I'd say. Switched from an LG V30+
Now am awaiting mods for dual speaker and some custom kernels like Franco kernel to tweak and save some battery.

What do you mean by mods for dual speaker?
Pixel 2 is a better phone. The camera is better. The software optimisation is beyond any phone, except maybe the iPhone X. The Android P is even fluider IMHO. The battery optimisation negates any perceived difference in capacity. The speaker in OP6 is loud but it's tinnier. The front facing dual speaker is always better.
I switched from the Pixel 2 to the LG V30+ for the video recording flexibility and the headphone DAC. then switched from the V30+ to the Op6 cause of that bad camera.
If you can forgo the big chunky bezels of the Pixel 2, it's quite a treat. For looks and screen estate though, the Op6 rocks.

There are mods and magisk modules which allows the earpiece to be used as a secondary speaker
Anyone here have experience with skins on previous devices?
I have used dbrands on my OPO and OP3, but wondering if a cheaper Indian option would work with OP6. I like the Glass back on my 8gb version, but it gets dirty really quick (and I also like the OP logo in red or a different contrasting color).

But when it comes to price, Pixel can't beat OnePlus. They will obviously price Pixel 3 crazy high.

[INDIA] OnePlus 6 India thread Reply to Thread
Two small questions come to mind.
Is the photo software part up to date?
It seems to me that there must be a maj for the exit.
If not, is the 256GB version expected at Amazon?
Thank you.
Hey All,
Just received my EVR-L29 today.....man this is SEXY!
I was shocked as I was setting it up that Face Unlock came up. I hadn't read or seen any reviews that mentioned it and it seems fairly accurate. Pleasant surprise that I wanted to share...hope there wasn't another thread already!
I also never thought I would use a phone that made my Mi Mix feel small ?
what does the codes mean at the end of the phone? i.e. EVR-L29, CLT-29, HMA-L29, LYA-L29 etc? which one do I need to buy so that it works in the UK?
Cheers
KK
I own the Chinese version of the Mate 20X but I'm agree..
the Huawei facial unlock had amazed me since the update on the old P10, here I use it as favorite unlock, though Google Smart Lock is missing.
It recognizes even in low light and with glasses

There are a tone of threads discussing this already but the EVR-L29 is the 'global' version from Hong Kong and has the Google apps pre installed but there are pros and cons to China and Global versions.
Would be nice if the phone unlocked and went to the home screen and didn't need a swipe after using the face unlock, but yeah it works amazingly!

Seconds, it's not much wider but certainly taller. If you love your Mix as much as I loved mine you will understand that when I say what made the Mix so great is here in this phone but with much nicer features and what a difference having almost no chin makes... My new love is the 20X... Sorry Mix

Honestly depends on many things. I can adjust to just about anything.
As of now, I'm torn between the OnePlus 6T and the Mate 20 X. Size wise the 6T is so much easier to use, and with GCam development coming along, the pictures the 6T takes is simply amazing. I hate to say it but the Mate 20 X doesn't have great portrait modes. I've been testing both the Mate 20 X and the 6T extensively and while I was drawn to the Mate 20 X for its camera, size, battery life, etc. It looks like the camera is letting me down a bit for certain situations.
I could ramble on, but if you're genuinely only interested in size - you get used to it if your hands are of decent size. I've been told I have slightly above average hands and I can use it very well. While holding it with one hand, I can type and reach the "q" and "p" on the keyboard with a slight stretch.
My only gripe with the size being the actual software.. Huawei has poorly optimised the space available. On a 6.3" screen, I have 6 quick setting icons on the 6T. On a 7.2" screen, the Mate 20 X has 5. The icons look cartoonishly big.
The face unlock is very fast but I think it's less secure. On Galaxy phones they let me choose face unlocking speed and say the fast face unlocking is less secure. I guess it's because face scanning requires much complicated calculation than retina and finger print scannings.
The finger print scanner is so quick! Quicker than Samsung GS8 and GS9.
I too am supprised with face unlock in good light it's fast and works well, at night it might need a second attempt.
Having come from a mate 20pro in would say it's almost as good during the day (for ease of access) at night though the pro was a lot more reliable, probably because of the infrared camera etc in the notch.
Where did u buy the l29 ver.?
Have you had any updates so far?
Did they help?
How is the battery life with the dark mode?
Is anyone actually interested with the popup camera?
Would be a sturdy one so i don't mind it. There might be a fraction of a second delay on the Face Unlock though.
With the immersive display experience the popup will be totally worth it :good:
I am looking forward to it. Something new and different. Im not worried as many are about the durability or life. I see no reason why it wouldn't hold up for a few years even though it will only have to last me a year. Never

Faceunlocks wouldn't matter much anyways as most people would be using the Fingerprint scanner, yet I doubt the durability of any moving parts in a phone
I'd rather have a popup camera than a notch.

Popup cameras are too vulnerable, i'm against notch myself, but those better implications of it like the holepunch or the drop(OP6T) seems a better option

i agree
people are forgetting that others will be using the phone for a while, and then re-sell
say 3 years down the track, and 4 owners later the camera stops working - and the user is non-tech savvy, thats negative branding right there, people wont know why its not working, they will just know that it stopped and blame the OEM.

Agree. I use a front facing camera two or three times a year. A notchless screen would be appreciated every day.
Notch sux! Also, Rarely use front camera...
Not sure about the popup camera, I don't like the idea of having to use that kind of garbage to avail of face unlock. I'm quite considering buying the pro version if it has 12gb ram 256 rom 3.5mm jack, notch or no notch doesn't matter to me.

12GB Ram is actually overkill, most users wouldn't exceed 4Gb of Usage and well the 3.5mm jack could be a reason!
I don't think there is any pop up camera in OP7. The OP 7 Pro has pop up camera that is confirmed.

Yes the renders only point at the OP7 pro having a pop up camera
I had the Vivo Nex S and the pop-up camera is pretty sturdy. Looking fwd to the 7 Pro.
I use the selfie cam maybe once or twice a year so yep, i'd be perfectly happy with it.

kind of upsetting that the 7 pro has UFS 3.0 and the standard 7 doesnt.
i really liked the design of the 6T - the pop up camera looks gimmicky.

oh
last time i read i thought it was only the 7pro that had it
nontheless, the op7pro screen is better, and IIRC the standard 7 doesnt have a 90hz screen.
still though, UFS was one of the main reasons for getting the 7pro and not the 7, i may look into the differences alittle more now.
Seeing the Launch Video, I'm a little less doubtful about the Pop up camera, it's seems durable !
