[INDIA] OnePlus 6 India thread - OnePlus 6 Guides, News, & Discussion

Now that we have the OnePlus 6 flowing in, let's have our own Indian thread up.
I have a Mirror Black 6 GB variant. Delivered on 23rd May.
Quite good a phone, I'd say. Switched from an LG V30+
Now am awaiting mods for dual speaker and some custom kernels like Franco kernel to tweak and save some battery.

I too got Mirror black 6gb/64gb on 22nd. Today Amazon also added Rs 1000 cashback.
Waiting for servify adp activation already done with kotal811 thing.
I am waiting for official twrp then only will unlock and root and install my favorite Viper4android.

I pre-ordered the 8GB 128GB version. Loving it so far.

This is a magical experience...
Love it

Anyone found cases or tempered glass for op6 online?

I think you should unlock atleast.
The longer you wait the more data you have to take backup when unlocking the bootloader as unlocking wipes your phone clean.

Yes will do tonight. Not keeping any data as of now rest photos are on auto backup on mega.
Just now my servify protect got activated.
Ordered 2 cases from Amazon did not like the quality.
Default screen guard is very solid will keep it for as long possible.

Nothing beats Nilkin when it comes to tempered glass

I think OnePlus is perhaps the ONLY phone manufacturer that doesn't void warranty on rooting. I had a pixel 2 and confirmed that even with unlocked bootloader, the phone needs to be back in factory condition for claiming warranty. No brick issues would be entertained then. But with OnePlus, during my time with the OnePlus 5, my computer had a dead SMPS and my phone soft bricked. OnePlus gave warranty and reflashed the phone. I double checked with the service centre about the warranty. They were affirmative that I'd get warranty.

Can you please tell me about its camera? How does it fare when compared with Pixel2. I wanted to take op6, even pre-booked it. But when i saw all the reviews about its camera, didn't find it good with respect to Pixel2.
Also is speaker that bad? People seems not happy about it.
Howz the sound through earpiece during call?
Sorry for so many questions. I wanted to ask from someone who had both the phones.

Pixel 2 camera is better
I have also upgraded from Pixel 2 to op6
Pixel 2 camera and op6 when compared pixel2 fares best specially front potrait.
Software wise oxygen Os isn't that good compared to pixel stock and Android P bugless.
Pixel stereo speakers are treat to ears + call quality is unmatched. Op6 isn't that good when compared but ok.
However I always liked OnePlus display over any other phones.
Further I upgrade every 3-4 months so not an issue, will switch to pixel 3 in September or October.
Also I have Midnight Black 128GB if that matters
Tip- wait for 3-4 months if you are tight on budget and get Pixel 3 or op6t but if you are enthusiastic go ahead

Hey guys...
At what temperature does your OP6 hover at.
I don't play games.
As per cpu-z, mine stays between 30.5 to 39 degree Celsius.
(The temp here in Punjab, India reaches 47).
It feels like warmish after I installed Apple music app yesterday.
Before that didn't feel any warmth.
Thanks.

What do you mean by mods for dual speaker?

Pixel 2 is a better phone. The camera is better. The software optimisation is beyond any phone, except maybe the iPhone X. The Android P is even fluider IMHO. The battery optimisation negates any perceived difference in capacity. The speaker in OP6 is loud but it's tinnier. The front facing dual speaker is always better.
I switched from the Pixel 2 to the LG V30+ for the video recording flexibility and the headphone DAC. then switched from the V30+ to the Op6 cause of that bad camera.
If you can forgo the big chunky bezels of the Pixel 2, it's quite a treat. For looks and screen estate though, the Op6 rocks.

There are mods and magisk modules which allows the earpiece to be used as a secondary speaker

Anyone here have experience with skins on previous devices?
I have used dbrands on my OPO and OP3, but wondering if a cheaper Indian option would work with OP6. I like the Glass back on my 8gb version, but it gets dirty really quick (and I also like the OP logo in red or a different contrasting color).

Two small questions come to mind.
Is the photo software part up to date?
It seems to me that there must be a maj for the exit.
If not, is the 256GB version expected at Amazon?

I have a Yu Yutopia. AMA

Hey guys,
I have a Yu Yutopia with me and I am guessing a lot of you must be having queries about it. Please feel free to ask them.
My initial impressions of the phone so far:
1) Really impressed with the build quality. The phone feels solid in hand. Even better than the OnePlus 2 if you ask me. Did not expect this at all.
2) I love the One glass solution, but the colors and saturation levels of the display are wayyy off.
3) The fingerprint scanner works reliably. No issues with it.
4) The camera app is a big disappointment. Same as the one found on the OnePlus One. Slow.
5) The rear speaker is a joke
6) The phone does heat up while gaming. Playing Asphalt 8 for a few minutes was enough for the phone to heat up.
7) Cyanogen OS 12.1 is buggy.

Software. Yutopia is very buggy. With the X Style, you will get quick updates. And Snapdragon 810 being more powerful than the Snapdragon 808 is not really a big deal since the former overheats a lot and quickly throttles down.

Does this phone have the option to switch between on screen buttons to physical buttons like one plus one?
If not for physical buttons, what use of the big black bar at the bottom of the phone?
is it worth to buy in that price range???

First of all i am a YUTOPIA owner and have been using it for two weeks now.
The YU Yutopia is an awesome device if u go by its build quality. The All metal body,Integrated antenna bands, QHD screen and the Sound quality all screams the word PREMIUM!! A device worthy of its price. From the box it arrives in to the included components it is a well packed one.
The biggest con i felt is the OS. Cyanogen 12.1 has lots of potential, but the included one with the phone has lots of bugs.It has the january patch of android included though.Still there are some big bugs.
For instance, If the phine is charging and u turn the screen on (without unlocking) and keep it like that..the screen gets unlocked(even when locked with a fingerprint or a pin or a pattern) in five mins. so thats a major bug.
The camera focus lags in certain conditions and heating is present in some conditions. But these are all issues of CM 12.1 and not the phone. So it can be fixed in a future update i guess.
The pros of the phone include its build, quickcharge, massive battery and the screen. Its a delight to watch movies. The included House of marley earphones are of good quality. AudioFX with DTS is amazing and the sound is truly amazing when heard with this setting on.
i would say,if u are patient enough to wait for software updates, then this phone is worth every penny. Else u may go for one plus 2 which has no quickcharge and has the same chip. Heating is a SD810 issue and cannot be fully avoided in both phones. But that too is resolved to some extent by thermal management settings by YU. I guess it will be better once CM 13 based on MM is released.
The fingerprint issues also will be be solved by MM update as it s a native feature included in MM.
SO..the final choice lies with YU!:good:

Battery backup depends on your usage. If using 3G and continous use ( gaming, browsing, whatsapp etc) will get you around 14 hours. Else it lasts more on WiFi and easily lasts more than a day on intermittent use of 3G.
BTW..it has quickcharge 2.0 which will get u from 5% battery to 90% in one and half hours. The last ten % takes half hour.
wifi hotspot detection issue
Hi,
I purchased a Yu Yutopia yesterday and was initially impressed with the packaging and the build quality. While setting up the phone, I noticed that the phone was unable to detect the portable airtel 4g wifi hotspot. All my other phones like the One Plus X, Blackberry and Moto g1 were able to detect it but this phonewas unable to detect it. I tried making the one plus a mobile hotspot to check if it could detect my mobile hotspot and it seemed to detect it and every other wifi except this 4g hotspot wifi. I tried to factory reset the phone but it still shows the same issue and is unable to detect it. What do I do???
Please help me.
Its a piece of crap
my friend have this after 1 week phone got dead
I'm thinking to buy Yutopia. But can anyone share a video of it's LED Notification light with various colours? I have seen many videos but no impressed as I saw is only a tiny green light. Please upload a video of LED Notification light in use
Tell me about its camera quality can i compare its camera to Nexus 5x or this same as badd as other micromax phone
Like Good at day & a Low quality at night or kow light
Laggy type.???
alternate Camera app
Hi Yutopia users,
anyone using alternate better app for stock camera?
I have tried snapdragon camera but issue is it only supports 13MP. pls suggesti for alternate better camera app.

My HTC U11+ Translucent Black arrived today

https://imgur.com/a/6Ydve <----- images here
As the title says, my U11+ in translucent black arrived today.
Little bit of back story.. I've been using two phones before receiving this one, the Nexus 6P and the original Mi Mix. Loved the 6P for the last year but just couldn't deal with the terrible battery life, even after recently swapping the original battery out for a new one. I equally love the Mi Mix for the huge screen however the camera is shocking.
I live in China and preorders went live for the U11+ on 02nd November, the day the phone was announced. I ordered one straight away and the translucent model sold out in a matter of 30 minutes over here. Anyway, it arrived today and as you can see from the images, it's a beauty. I couldn't be happier with the phone and I've only had it for a matter of 6 or so hours.
Being the Chinese version of the phone, my only gripe is that I need to flash the Taiwanese firmware to get Google services etc functioning. Only problem is that the phone ships with S-ON (Security = ON) and, as far as I know, there is no way as yet to shift that to S-OFF so that I can change the CID number and flash Taiwanese firmware.
Any questions you have about the phone just leave them here and I'll go my best to get around to them.
Excellent! Great beauty!
Make sure you avoid using the packaged case if you want the phone live longer. On u11 it made impacts worse, tho protecting from scratches...
Two u11s here one with broken back glass... Since then fully clad in proper casing
Is there any pocket mode that disables accidental screen to wake while inside the pocket?

That's a good question to me as, although I have more than 6 cases for the u11 only one of them was a leather poach. Which since then I wouldn't use in itself because pulling from it I dropped one of the u11s we own at home..
I think a real folding case is a good solution but I don't have any, so can't give advice unfortunately. Also most folding cases somehow block the edge sense feature
@OP: can you please comment on the wifi reception on U11+? How much drain you see with wifi on and phone lying idle? I want this phone but HTC has not been best as far as wifi reception and battery drain resulting from it is concerned.
Hi Proto,
Can you try to run some Google installer package from HTC shop. Read on jd.com that you can install that for Google services. Currently I am on the fence too if I should buy u11+ in China or hk.

Hi Hemant,
Today I got Gapps working on the Chinese version. All Google apps are working flawlessly and this now feels like an international ROM. I have to thank Perfectionalism (a user on this forum) for making me aware of the gapps installer. I'll send the download link over to you in a PM.
The Translucent Black versions are awesome. I have heard from a Taiwanese blogger that, despite the U11+ has 30% more battery capacity (3930 vs 3000 mAh) than the U11 , but the U11+ only lasts longer than U11 by 10% in time by using PCMark program.
I am wondering if Prot02018 could please post some battery statistics to us? (particularly, Screen on Time), thank you.
Recd My Amazing Silver U11+. Don't want to hijack the thread but incase OP can't answer something i too will be glad to help
Is the fingerprint sensor covered by glass?
Also how is the vibration motor? Can you compare it with other device? Is it anything like the iphone/pixel 2?

Now my Samsung S6 suddenly died and my wife is hell bent against me buying an HTC phone which is sort of a dying brand. She insists its better to buy an iphone 8 for that price rather than HTC phone or maybe even Huawei phone. Damn . Woman
Currently i am phoneless and using my wife's iphone 5s. So still pondering which one to buy hoping she would see send that HTC is not bad.
Also to those bought the phone is there any LCD bleeding issue like Pixel 2 devices. Lot of users of U11+ commented the same on jd.com / tmall. Would love to hear on this and battery.
Does the fingerprint sensor support gestures on it? For example, if you swipe down on it does it trigger the notification shade?

Also, can you please comment on the screen quality (how visible things are under sunlight, max brightness) and battery performance? The verdict from GSM Arena's review are rather disappointing in these two regards.

Also if can tell us and how perform compared to the previous device own like Nexus 6p and Mi Mix mention at first post.
Both battery life and outdoor visibility.
Is it better, the same or worst.
I read in gsmarena the battery life was not great. can you confirm or deny it ?
What do the Hong Kong / China / Taiwan users say about battery performance? Any complaints so far?

Halo Gray variant safe to buy?

Amazon recently added a Halo Gray variant to their listings and I know it comes with Alexa that can be removed but would there be any reason NOT to get this color? I wonder if it would be BETTER to get since it's probably a new hardware revision? I know it has the same internal specs as the others but I've heard some horror stories about the initial batch of the black ones and am wondering if that's still a concern.
I'm curious to know your thoughts!

I purchased a black one from bestbuy earlier in the week hoping it was part of the new batch. It was apparently as the speaker grill was metal. But the light bleed was very present on both sides so i returned it. Started reading about the newer batch of phones that fixed the speaker grill are having light bleed issues. So with that said i’m hesitant to buy another. But this Halo grey color peaks my interest and amazons return policy is pretty great. So i’m going to bite the bullet and try the Halo grey.
I have the hall gray edition, and love it. No fingerprinting on back. And feels much more sold and secure in hand....

Good to hear! I have the Black and while beautiful it is a mother to keep clean when not in a case. I'm running Orea B8.1 and hoping the non beta will be out soon and if it is nice and smooth with no hiccups I may get the Halo Gray as well.

I read that you can remove the Alexa app... Is that correct?
Other than Alexa, is the same no bloatware as any Essential phone?
Thanks,

I noticed when flashing to and from Oreo it installed from play store. And I was successful at removing it on Oreo beta unrooted.

Neither did mine lol
I picked up the Halo Grey when it was on sale for $450 and am mostly enjoying it right now. I have never seen any other PH-1 and could not imagine how much of a smudge magnet they must be. Plus the matte has just enough grip to it to keep it from being a wet bar of soap. I upgraded it to Oreo 8.1 within 10 minutes of taking it out of the box and am trying to figure out what the battery life is going to be like.
So yes...go halo!

So 2 weeks later now, How has the battery life been on oreo 8.1 ? getting my essential phone soon. So eager to know whether i should upgrade to oreo or not.
So I am going to call the battery life "acceptable", but not spectacular. I tried out a OnePlus 5T before the PH-1 but could not get VoLTE working on AT&T. That thing seemed to have stellar battery life. The Essential is going into Deep Sleep about 75% of the time according to CPU Spy. All I do is calls/texts and surf the web on mine and I seem to go 2 days before recharging again. The fast charge is damn fast...but I do find myself missing the headphone jack. I needed to plug it in the other day while I was on a call. And keeping up with the stupid dongle is annoying. I did try a cheap used 360 camera and what a total **** show. That thing ate power at a stupid rate, the video/pictures were like meh, and it actually has a tiny fan buzzing away in it....and it still heats up. Overall the phone is solid and built BEAUTIFULLY.
Mine has been great. I love the matte back and its much closer to black than grey. I also wasn't sure about the color of the metal frame from pictures either coming from a black moon I had previously but I really like it in person. Haven't had any quality issues with it.
I will say battery on 8.1 is decent... its nothing spectacular but its more than adequate. Then again I'm coming from a v30 which has possibly the best battery life I've ever had on an android phone.. just a slight step below the mate 8 and mi mix 1.

I am just a little bummed that I bought it at $499 and now its $450 with the essential earbuds and amazon refuses to refund me the difference or price match... and I really don't wanna have to go through the whole return and repurchase process just to get that difference back.
So far my battery on the matte gray was stellar. I spent the weekend at my girlfriends house and didnt have to charge it at all. So far so good.

Lol I set myself up for it. I did use my phone quite a bit over there. I left it on over night too with a sleep machine playing and no problems.

Demo Units At Verizon and Best Buy

I just stopped by my local Verizon store, and my local Best Buy, and both had demo stations set up.
Some quick impressions:
The build quality is very nice. The matte etched glass looks better than I was expecting.
The notch looks much better in person. It's really not bad at all. I think everyone is reacting to close-up photos blown up on their monitor, and don't think about the real-world size of the device. However, the Verizon demo app running on the XL has the background of the notification bar blacked out to hide the notch.
The "chin" isn't that bad either (for the same reasons), especially given the trade-off of getting front-facing speakers.
The "Not Pink" is very subtle, but doesn't really look that good to me. However, that is a purely subjective opinion, and others may think it looks great.
Plenty of people are saying that the notch "isn't so bad" when the phone is in your hands, and while I'm more than happy to agree I'll say this - you shouldn't be spending this kind of money on a product that has something that "isn't so bad". The 128GB variant costs well over $1k with taxes included.. I shouldn't be settling for much when spending that kind of money on a smartphone. Headphone jacks, Micro SD compatibility, etc. are things that I am willing to forgive, but the notch might be a bit too much to swallow. We'll see, I get my Pixel 3 XL around the 26th. If I really can't stand it, it'll go back to Google and OnePlus will likely earn my money with their beautiful design and affordability.
Also, the notch doesn't seem so bad on its own - sure; but I'm sure most would feel different if they hold OnePlus' upcoming 6T in one hand and the Pixel 3 XL in the other. The teardrop notch will shame the Pixel 3 XL. Here's to hoping that the software on the 6T can somewhat match what Google's doing, as that's Google's biggest selling point.

I feel the same way as you do...but if this phone isn't rootable / ROM-able (because of this dam Titan Chip on Board)....it wont be the same as previous pixel/nexus devices.....that will likely be a deal breaker. It already has less battery, no additional ram, huge notch, no LED notification light.....not being rootable/ROM-able will be the straw that breaks the camels back.
Edit: I just came back from the Verizon store as well.....they had the phone in all 3 colors and the pixel stand. The phone looks nice. Lets just hope for root. Also the haptic feedback to me didn't seem better than the P2XL....I heard a few reviews online mention it was considerably improved and the Russian review even claimed it may be better than the iPhone's vibration motor. It didn't feel that way to me tho.
I went to a Verizon store today and check out the 3 and 3 xl myself. I have to say, I DO like it a lot! Like the OP said, in person, the notch is NOT that bad. Having said that, if anyone comes up with a way to partially hide it, I'll still be doing that. I didn't have long to play with it (on lunch from work), but here's what I got:
The screen is WAY better than the 2 xl. Way better. I did not notice any shift either. Compared to my 2 xl, it was definitely a huge improvement. Everything just looks better/clearer.
The glass back was actually pretty cool. You almost wouldn't know it was all glass. However, the matte finish ends just before the edges. That I don't like. The edges are smooth and somewhat slippery. They really should have extended the matte finish onto the edges.
The phone was definitely snappier. I have mine adjusted to .5 for all animations and such, and the 3 xl was much more smooth. I'm sure it will be super quick once that option is changed to .5 when I have mine in hand.
The chin is pretty much identical to the 2 xl. It does not bother me one bit. I would much rather have dual front facing speakers and a chin/notch/forehead than not.
I couldn't really test much else out as I didn't have time. As the OP mentioned, the dev settings were password locked, so, I couldn't play with the hide notch or animation settings. I will say that I was really on the fence on this. I wasn't even going to get one at all. I decided to last minute just to see, and send it back if I didn't like it. Now I'm excited for it's arrival next week. I think I'll be very happy with this.
All in all, it's a minor upgrade to the 2's. Even though the screen is much better, the speakers, and the camera's as well, it's not a huge difference. But, including the stand, my monthly payments are only going to be about 3 bucks more a month, so, to me, that's worth it.

To me the chin on the 3XL was about 1mm thicker the than the chin on the 2XL. Not sure why...but it is slightly bigger. I could tell thought that it wouldn't take me long to get used to the notch.

About 4 months ago, my cousin got his hands on a Pixel 3 XL since his company does QA testing for Google devices. When I asked about the notch at that point, he said that it really is not bad in person. He played with my OnePlus 6 and told me the 3 XL notch isn't any worse, in real world usage. And now the reviews, including yours, seem to agree with what he told me. Now I'm curious to go see one for myself.
I really don't mind the chin, personally, just because front facing speakers would be amazing. The single bottom facing speaker on my OnePlus 6 really is not good at all.
Unfortunately, the immediate deal breaker for me is the 4GB RAM. Especially at that $899 price point. I'm not a spec chaser, by any means. But 4GB, at least in my usage, is not enough. Looking at the RAM usage of my OnePlus 6, I average 4.2GB - 4.4GB on a daily basis with normal usage. With my 2 XL, I'd find that the system would have to close down processes quite frequently to keep RAM in check. This lead to many app redraws throughout the day. It slowed the phone down and got quite annoying. Since switching to the OnePlus 6 with 8GB RAM (6GB would have been plenty), those issues are resolved. So, while I'd love to get that Pixel camera back and wireless charging would be great, I simply can't justify the cost for a phone that will inevitably be slower than my OnePlus 6. I'll hold out to see what the OnePlus 6T offers.
I already ordered the XL, however I checked out the phones in Verizon as well and the regular 3 seemed really nice as well! I'd be totally fine with it
Went to a Verizon store, they had two Pixel 3 XL's (black and pink) and one Pixel 3 (white).
The glass on the front is a lot flatter than the 2 XL glass. The active area of the screen doesn't seem to come too close to the curved edges, so full coverage glass screen protectors should be a lot easier to design and attach compared to the ones for 2 XL.
The third item under Settings / Display / Colors is Adaptive instead of Saturated.
The new OLED screens are a lot more uniform than 2 XL screens. They look less grainy, I didn't see any colored splotches either. Whites appear somewhat cold / bluish when Natural is selected under Settings / Display / Colors.
Apparently, the screen lottery is still a thing for the third generation of Pixels. The black XL screen had a noticeable red tint when viewed at an angle, while the pink XL screen had a blue tint. The tint first appears at an angle somewhat greater than for the 2 XL, so I guess that's progress. The white non-XL also had a slight reddish tint when viewed at an angle, but it was a lot less pronounced.
(Comparison photos were taken at 100% brightness, natural colors, white and dark gray screen test image. Image quality is not great, as I was trying to dodge reflections and glare and keep the tethered display units in place.)
All 3 phones had 64 Gb of internal memory. Both XL's had Micron storage and the non-XL had an SK Hynix chip. All 3 units had Micron-branded RAM.
Android version was listed as 9, no 9.1. yet.
After seeing the demo units, I'm feeling OK about my black 3 XL 128 Gb order.

Do some more research before saying it can't be rooted. Nothing is unbreakable, it's a matter of time and effort. Without the phone in hand we know nothing.

Thanks - they are likely to be sim unlocked? Id really love to buy one next Thursday while in the US if I could.. I don't have the funds to pre order on google store till Thursday and even if I did I don't think it would be delivered to my hotel in providence in time.. id be afraid I wouldn't have it by checkout time Friday morning and have to leave without it. I guess the sensible thing to do is bite my lip and have patience for 1st week of November release in Ireland/Uk...
I'm not sure even if I knew someone with a Verizon account could they just buy one for me with my cash and hand it over or would they have to sign up to some sort of Verizon contract extension.. etc... my trip coming one week too early

I never said its not rootable... I said it may not be. But yes we will have to wait and see. Deestroy from twrp has his order in so I'm hoping for the best.
God I hope there's no screen 'lottery' this time... That was not a post I wanted to see. The 3 and 3xl units I looked at were perfect. No shift whatsoever. Hopefully the demo units from the other post were just flukes. After 3 tries, my 2 xl screen is nearly perfect. I am NOT doing that again this time. If my 3xl comes and has bad blue (or red) shift, it's going back. Seriously, after last year, if Google hasn't done anything about quality control, I actually will likely be looking at other OEM's... I don't want to, but I'm not playing this game anymore. Anyway, I guess we'll see next week!

All the variants sold in the USA should be sim/carrier unlocked. There is only a few (or maybe only one) carrier in the UK who sold them with SIM lock,
However, I do not believe the phones will be available for sale until Friday the 19th, that is official release date I believe.
So i went to look at the demo units at my local VZ store and the notch isn't too bad and could probably live with it. from playing around with it is seems the software implementation around the notch is terrible. would it have killed them to round the edges on the top when the app didn't go into the notch area. it wouldn't auto rotate a little button to rotate showed up on the bottom when i rotated the phone and auto rotate was on i guess there was another option i didn't really look too hard for. The screen is nicer compared to my Pixel 2 XL i had with me, it goes more to each side edge so it does feel a bit bigger in that aspect but when an app stops at the notch it feels the same height, just my take on it.
One issue both demo units had that could be a big problem is the top left corner of the back the side with the camera felt squishy , when i pressed on it i could see it move i could even fit my nail under and it felt like it would start to come apart. I hope it just being a demo unit with those blocky brackets on the back adding extra stress to the back but it was only that corner.
Now im even more on the fence lol

Do be aware best buy only sells the Verizon variant, that will come with a locked bootloader, if they follow past history it wont be unlockable, at least for a long time, if ever.
If you plan to root and/or ROM the device you will need an unlockable bootloader to do so.
Also, you can do a one time payment for the phone online @ best buy site, no reason you cannot do the same in the store. Having said that, in the past, if you do one-time pay, they have tried to raise the price by $100. They tried it with me when buying iPhones, but you just tell them to check store.google.com and they have to price match.

Question Pixel 7 vs 7pro? Still can't decide

Sorry for this boring question but I still can't decide between vs 7 and 7pro.
I use OnePlus 7Pro and for now I hate curved display because it is very problematic to get good screen protector.
I know the difference between phones.
But please tell me your opinion about curved screen. About problem with screen protect etc.
If you have to make a new decision, will you choose 7 or 7pro?
I would choose the 7 Pro with a Spigen Tough Armor case.
I originally got the Pixel 6 because I was concerned about the curved screen on the Pro. I took a chance when I upgraded to the Pixel 7 and went with the Pro.
I honestly have forgotten that the 7 Pro has a curved screen. I have a Spigen case on it and NO screen protector and have it in a leather holster when I'm out and about.
It's all a good combination for me.
I hate curved screens as well and came from a Samsung Galaxy s22 plus with a flat screen.
I have the Pixel 7 Pro now and traded in another device for it.
I am not going to lie, I tried a few TPU screen protectors and they were not good. I ended buying a Whitestone dome and although it is a hassle installing and the first attempt I got bubbles the second worked and it has so far been excellent.
I use a Spigen hybrid clear case or a Zagg gear 4 Denali that I got on sale. I would highly suggest getting a good case for the phone because it is super slippery if you don't use one. The Spigen was $13 and Zagg has sales or discounts and I got mine for $10.
I had the OnePlus you have and the curve is much more prominent on the OnePlus than the Pixel. It is a very subtle curve and if it were not for the screen protector bring a pain I almost like it. Almost.
The thing is I believe both the 7 and 7 Pro are on sale right now and the 7 at $499 is a hard value to beat. That being said I like the Pro better because of the slimmer bezels, the 1440p resolution, the extra ram at 12gb, and the zoom lense. I also like the larger screen. I have heard the Pro uses a better quality screen as well. However I like the brushed metal on the 7 better. The screen on the Pro scored 3rd on DXO mark and I can honestly say the color accuracy, color temperature and image quality of the display is really impressive.
https://www.dxomark.com/smartphones/#sort-display/device-
I don't think you can go wrong with either to be honest. It is more do the things I mentioned mean anything to you? Is $250 worth it? For me they were and I have zero regrets. If I got the 7 I would probably be bothered by the compromises. Having the larger battery on the Pro is also nice.
I traded in one of my all time favorite phones the iPhone 13 Pro Max and I thought I would regret it. It was locked to a carrier who would not unlock it so it was either keep it and not use until or if I ever switched back to that carrier, get another iPhone or get the Pixel 7 Pro. Google was offering a crazy trade in value plus the sale which meant the phone didn't cost me anything. So despite being somewhat locked in the Apple ecosystem I decided to take a chance on the Pixel. I would have had to pay a minimum of $400 to get a regular iPhone 14 Pro.
Having used it for a couple weeks I am really happy I got the Pixel 7 Pro. It feels just as fast and fluid as my old iPhone. I like Pixel software and Android 13 better than iOS 16, the device is lighter yet the screen seems bigger to me with smaller bezels. Battery life is not as good as the iPhone but it is not bad at all. I am a really heavy user and I usually have around %45 at the end of the day. Charging seems fast enough as it takes about an hour and a half but I use adaptive charging at night.
The call reception and wifi reception are good. Call quality is excellent. I have used it on a road trip and could always get a signal.
It has been really solid software experience with no bugs I have experienced and super fast updates.
The cameras are excellent. I had to use macro lense for a warranty claim and on a translucent surface I was able to show what I needed to get a replacement. Zoom shots and regular shots all turn out great.
This is by far the best phone Google has ever made and for me I appreciate all the extras in the Pro and am so glad I got it over the 7.
Hated the curved screen but i soon got used to it on the P6P and clearly that followed though on to the P7P. Film screen protectors seem to work really well, they are bubble free and the self repairing aspect of them is brilliant, they tend to last around 6 months in my experience.
Personally i think the macro is a waste of time but it is there if you want it, i'd rather have a fix focus lens on the ultra wide given its main job is landscapes etc and you can get the same macro result using one of the zoom ranges without macro turned on so it feels like a gimmick (to me). The 5x zoom doesn't seem as good as the 4x was on the P6P for some reason, not range but image quality, they always seem very soft and lacking in detail to me, everyone else's seem fine though so it may just be my phone in particular.
Battery life is great and i often don't need to charge it on a night.
I did have it in a Spigen Tough Armor case but recently changed to a Caseology Athlex, i do like the Tough Armor but they always end up feeling manky.
The curved screen is barely even noticeable. I just struggle to believe that anybody has an issue because of an eighth of an inch around the edge of a phone. I mean the damn thing is as big as the phone gets as it is. And, like was posted above, barely even noticeable. Particularly when it’s in a case.

It is the fragility of it and the lack of regular screen protectors that are the issue, not the curve.
I am using the P7P with the Whitestone with no problems or concerns. If you are looking for a TPU the Superschieldz worked well while I was waiting for the Whitestone.

I switched to the Pixel 7 Pro from a OnePlus 7T. Keep in mind if you use a Dual SIMs in you OP7Pro it's a little tricky and you have to install Automate to utilize dual ringtones on the Pixel 7 Pro. The screen protector I'm using is the Zagg Shield - works fine for a non-glass screen protector and others should do the same. The Pixel 7 Pro Cameras are what got me to switch from the OnePlus 7T - I almost went with the OnePlus 10Pro - already knew this was close 1yr old and AT&T Allowed the devices 5G on the network .. so I went with the P7Pro.
Bought Pixel 7 Pro! Thanks for help. Now I am looking for good clear case which is compatible with whitestone dome glass.

Ringke Fusion is my favorite clear case so far. It even provides some camera bump protection on the back rather than the entire bump being exposed.
Thanks, last question.
New device from box - do you make factory reset only and update or do you flash stock ROM via fasfboot etc?

No need to factory reset a new device, but if it's me, do the minimal setup at first boot, flash January Firmware after unlocking the bootloader, making sure you disable verity and verification so you can flash custom Kernels, since that will wipe the device anyway.
I recommend Pixflasher if you're unsure of or want to avoid using ADB commands

The only thing which interest me in root is vowifi calling.
I need to test VoLTE, because I have bad cellular signal in my house.
So if I decided not to root device. Should I update only from phon (ota) or the first time do it from computer?

By the computer is much faster. You can still use Pixelflasher, just don't install Magisk. Just flash the newest firmware and since you're not unlocking your bootloader or going to use a kernel, you can save data and not check verity and verification
