My wife has the Transformer running 3.2. When she records a video, the video will record, but no sound will produce. Also, when using gtalk, the video will display, but nothing can be heard except static. I made sure the volumes were up. Shes only had it for about 2 weeks now. Any suggestions?
Were any kind of modifications done to it? Rooted or anything?
Have you tested the mic by using the Sound Recorder program that comes with the TF stock to see if the microphone records anything?
You could have a unit with a defective microphone. This issue has popped up on this forum before with another user reporting static and unresponsive mic, the user had it exchanged and the problem was not there in the replacement.
You can try doing a factory reset if you exhaust all options but if it's still there and you can't get any recording done in Sound Recorder, your only option is to swap with the retailer or RMA with Asus (which is an absolute nightmare).
If I were you I would just swap with retailer as fast as possible before the return period expires. Anything is better than having to deal with Asus because you "think" it works. Better safe than doing and RMA with the devil.
not rooted. yes we tested the mic by trying the variuos voice command options. im going to try a hard reset now and if its still there, i will return it to best buy.
No success. Returning tomorrow.

garbled static in audio when using internal mic
i am getting garbled static on all audio when recorded using the internal mic. worked fine when plugged in with a headset/mic combo. planned to return to retailer but the issue wasnt discovered until too late...just missed the exchange date by 2 days...
hope theres a fix, really dont want to send it in to asus from what ive heard of the horror stories... any help is greatly appreciated.
I returned it for an iconia. Didn't want to take the chance of the same issue happening again.

I just started using my Pixel a couple days ago. I updated it to Android 7.1.1 immediately after finishing setup.
Everything seemed to work fine and I made a call on speakerphone but the other party couldn't hear me at all. When I switched back to normal call (earpiece) they could hear me immediately.
The mic does work on other usages like video recording, saying OK, Google, etc.
I tried booting into Safe Mode but the other call party still couldn't hear me. Should I try factory reset? Does anyone has this problem? This is an opposite problem to this thread, his/her mic does work only on speakerphone but not anywhere else. Thanks!
Mine has no issues. Are you covering the mic?

No I'm not covering the mic.
There seems to be several issues regarding the microphone on Pixel phones reporting on Pixel User Community
This is kinda stupid problem as a phone at this price couldn't do its basic functionality!
Mine does that to on latest u update. Now my microphone doesn't work at all. No Google now, no speaker, and regular talk. So now I just have a texting a machine until I can pay for insurance phone. ?

Pay? It's under a year for sure that you've owned it - have a Google replace it for free!
I've had similar sort of issues since the NOF26V update. Haven't quite pinpointed when and how to trigger it but on numerous occasions I would go to place a call (normal call through earpiece):
- person picks up, however they cannot hear me, as if the microphone is not working.
- I cannot hear anything out of the earpiece no matter what volume.
- Switch to speakerphone, same again not hearing any audio for a approx 3-4 seconds, then a short choppy bit of audio which then cuts out. A few seconds of silence again and then a short choppy bit of audio again.
- Either party hangs up.
- OK Google does not respond.
- Manually activate OK Google by holding down middle button.
- Start to speak but no audio is recognised as if the microphone is muted.
- Try to re-train OK Google, same again, no audio is heard/recognised when I speak "OK Google"
- Go to YouTube and play audio, speaker audio works.
- Restart phone, and all is OK again until sometime later (again haven't been able to pinpoint when/how) this occurs again.
- Restarting phone only way to fix.
Anyone else having similar symptoms?

Just had another random issue, plugged headphones into headphone jack to listen to music, headphones not recognised as being plugged in, audio coming out of speaker. Clear all running apps, restart spotify, same thing audio coming out of speaker not headphones. Try in other apps such as YouTube, podcast player, same issue. Keep audio playing and remove headphones and plug them in again, no effect, audio still playing out of speaker during unplug/plug in - as if not recognised. Restart phone, all is OK.
Is this somehow related to the above call audio issues?
Im having same issue and i bought phone from a guy on craigslist.it was brand new .dont know what to do now
My wife's Pixel has a problem where the mic & speakers stop working. We also noticed that when the phone is rebooted, the boot animation never shows the "dancing dots", it stays on the Google logo screen for awhile, then the Android unlock screen appears.
Bought the device from the Play Store. Google agreed at once that it's a hardware issue. Replacement phone will be here Monday.

Did you try flashing a factory image with your pc to see if that solves the problem?
I too am having this problem after march update. I wonder if it is related to this http://www.greenbot.com/article/3179145/android/google-responds-to-pixel-microphone-issues-with-official-replacement-program.html

When my 5x boot looped I was in the same issue as you. A contacted Google a second time and they didn't even care that I bought it off eBay and just sent me a replacement. I think it depends on what rep you get. I would just try again.

My pixel's mic and earpiece also stop working and only fix is restart. And stop working after a while, and restart is only fix. Weird! I can't talk over call :'(
I have the same issues on my Pixel. But they appeared after updating to 8.1. and I came from the 8.1 Beta.
I downgraded back to Android 8.0 and have no issues so far. Have not yet tried to update again.
I got my phone on Friday and upgraded it to Andriod 10 this morning, so I didn't have a chance to test if this was also an issue for Android 9. However, when I tried to make a call this afternoon, the other side can no longer hear me, while I can hear the other side just fine.
I tried switching some settings while calling and switching Speaker to be on is enough to get microphone back, then I can switch speaker back to off and use it normally. Rebooting the phone will cause the issue to reappear.
Trying to see if any of you are having the same issue.
I have the exact same issue. The mic works after I toggle the speaker, but another issue happens in subsequent calls... sound no longer comes out of the earpiece, only through the bottom speaker. It's such a bizarre bug.
My microphone works but my headphones don't work (no sound) when plugged into 3.5mm jack. Needed to talk via speakerphone or earpiece.
Seems they didn't fully test their calling on this first patch?
Music via 3.5mm works.
WW_17.1810.1910.68 seems to have fixed my issues.

Toggling the speakerphone seems to fix the audio coming out of the bottom speaker. A fix for the fix?
Is there any fix for this issue? I am facing the same problem, the phone speaker and microphone will not work during the call and playing music, but works fine if I toggle to speaker mode. Music is a problem, but works fine with headphone. Very strange.
I am running into same issue on Android 10 with latest updates. Toggling the speakerphone one and off fixes the problem for a while and the it comes back on. Third party VOIPs make calls with no issues.
Looking at Asus official forums - you can see the problem reported on a variety of models and I don't see a resolution anywhere. I got a bad feeling about this...

So, anyone else suffering from the weird sound bug? In essence, there is no notification sounds, ringing or alarms coming through, phone is not on silent and no active DnD mode. And normal media playback is as expected, speakers work fine as well, it's just alarms, ringing and notifications. It gets weirder tho, because if headphones are plugged in sounds can be heard but not when unplugged. Android 10, latest patch too and I'm really confused at this point so any ideas are appreciated. Hi I have the exact same problem, it occurred after installing the December patch, I tried to do more reset but the problem persists, I contacted google assistance and they told me they will let me know, were you able to solve this problem?
The only option is to wait for another update to correct the problem? Or possibly downgrade to android 9? With android 10 all the problems started including the whistle in the video recording
I opened a problem report on the google issue tracker. Sorry For my bad english.

Please star it and comment if you have this issue. Thanks a lot.

Mine started doing this today. The funny thing is I used a bluetooth for my ear at work and switched to BT in the car when I left work. No ringing comes from the phone, but through BT I now hear the individual ringtones that I have set over car speakers BT and ear BT. It never did that before. Makes me think that using BT somehow caused it. Very odd. I went to Sprint store and let them poke around with it. Two employees had no luck. They stated that they had never seen this problem.
------------------------------
UPDATE. I was directed by Google to either mail it back (7-10 day turnaround-sure!) or take it to UBREAKIFIX like they did to "soopervoo." It was repaired yesterday in about 3 hours! They even offered a loaner phone for the time, but I declined. All is good in my Pixel 3a world again. Oddly, the phone continues to try to update playMusic every so often to the Nov update which is already on my phone.

Hello and happy new year! Unfortunately I have not found any solution, I wait for the next update, if it does not solve the problem I will ask for the replacement of the mobile phone. My suspicion is that the December update breaks the lower speaker.
I have similar issue like this for past 3 months, what ever ringtone I set, by default Google duo notification is ringing. But i can hear custom ringtone on whatsapp call.
I have a similar problem with a different phone brand. I tracked the issue to be related to enabling the automatic DND option which tents to not properly go away after it turns off. Sad that is the same on the pixel which I'm looking at buying...
This bug just started for my mom's Verizon Pixel 3a this week. It was working in early Dec 2019, but something recently broke. The call ringer sounds do not work, but YouTube audio does.
I did a full system reset where it temporarily fixed the sound, however, during the app updates, it reverted back to no sound.
Chatting with Google support wasn't useful. They just sent the standard bug report email.
If anyone has any suggestions, please advise.
Update
Called Google support and they redirected me to UBreakiFix to inspect and repair.
Took a few hours, but they replaced the speakers.
Looks like I had a bad unit but seems to be fixed now.

FYI, mine was a hardware (speaker) problem.
this 3a I have can play YouTube audio on the earspeaker, so I think that's normal, the ringer uses the bottom speaker right? next to the charging USB3 port, if I do a complete factory reset, that will not fix it?

Two factory resets did not work for mine. Mine was acting the same, bottom speaker was crackly, intermittent, and then went out completely.

I am here to pig pile onto the issue. Running the January patch and never getting OTA notifications (running Magisk), I finally sideloaded Feb and then March updates last week. Just a few days later, I was talking on speakerphone and it got all crackly for a few seconds and then quit. That's the last I heard of it. Safe mode, two resets and even a full factory flash didn't fix it.
Just went through diagnostics with Google support and the verdict is the same...take it to ubreakifix under warranty. At least the phone is still useable, unlike the first gen Pixel microphone.
Here is one more confirmation that there is definitely a problem with the Pixel 3a's bottom speaker. Mine cut in and out a couple of times and then died completely. My phone was four months old at the time, purchased directly from Google, and has always lived in an Otterbox Defender case and had never been dropped.
I contacted Google and they said I could send it in for replacement. And I said, "Hey - wait a minute! I bought my phone from Google so I'm supposed to get an advanced replacement!" So he wanted my IMEI and confirmed that, yes, I had that option. But I was concerned that both the agent and website confirmed that I would receive either a new or (most likely) refurbished device.
The Google warranty website said that I had the option of having the phone replaced by Google or going to a local ubreakifix shop, of which there are several in my area. I called them up and the guy I spoke to said it was a common problem on the Pixel 3a! And they had the part in stock.
Since my phone was in perfect condition, other than the speaker, I chose the ubreakifix option instead of having Google send me a, probably used, replacement. I dropped it off, went to get something to eat, and while I was eating, I was messaged that my phone was ready for pickup. I took a look at the paperwork for the repair and the repair cost to Google listed was about $80. I asked the gentleman how much the exact same repair would cost for a Pixel 3a that was not under warranty and he said $140! Damn! I priced the speaker part if bought directly from China on Aliexpress and it was less than $10 from most vendors.
A search of the Google support forums shows that many Pixel 3a owners have had their speakers fail. It's a problem that can't be missed because your phone never rings!
If it fails again under warranty, I will have the speaker replaced. If it fails again after the warranty period, I will order a replacement speaker from China and do my own replacement.
Hi, I owned my P7Pro since few weeks and, few days ago, I began to suffer of mic issue, people couldn't hear like my voice is sub cut, or as I'm speaking underwater...
I don't know if it's a software or a hardware problem. Is there people who's suffering of this issue that can help me ?
Whenever anyone complains that they can't hear you, first confirm that it's you and not them.
Try using Google's Recorder app and playback what you sound like, or record a video and listen to the audio back.
The problem is P7Pro got 2 mics, I'm hearing me when I record a video, but, I have the problem when I'm using g-recorder app
Anyone ? :/

No, my phone is full stock, I use the record app to test, looks like my bottom mic is working, but not top one ... and it's not easy to clean cuz the hole is tiny af
If you've gone into safe mode and did a factory reset and the issue persists it's time to call Google and RMA the device.
