I'm using Magisk (latest version). The easiest and convenient way to root your phone though, you still need to use a custom recovery (TWRP) to root using Magisk and indirectly, your bootloader still needs to be unlocked (if you haven't manage to flash a custom recovery on your phone yet).
Are you using a custom recovery (TWRP) for your phone right now @Tanvir/?

[Q] Can I obtain Root on the stock ROM and keep over the air updates?

if so can anyone point out a tutorial?
Hello,
If your stock with only a custom recovery, you will need to download the OTA zip file and flash it via custom recovery.
However, if you have a custom kernel/mods installed then you will need flash the stock images and then flash the OTA zip via recovery.
Yes
You'll get the official OTA updates as long as you have the stock ROM(even if it is rooted) and Recovery.
But you may lose the root after the update.

You need to flash the SuperSU zip via recovery to have root access. Flashing supersu doesn't wipe your device's configuration or files. Unlocking the bootloader wipes it!
Use Helium to backup your apps when you're unrooted. Once you have root access, I would recommend using Titanium Backup!

the bootloader has to be unlocked to flash/boot to twrp/cwm, which is required for root.

I think you should head over to general section and read the Stickies first before tinkering with your device!
This is the flow...:
1. Unlock the bootloader (Wipes everything off the phone)
2. Flash custom recovery
3. Flash SuperSU.
Hoorah! You're rooted!
Rooting
And if your not sure how to root your phone i would really read up on it first or you may brick it,untill your sure you can do it.......If it aint bust dont fix it

[Q] simple root/upgrade question

Hi. Been out the loop for a while and struggling to find the answer to my question.
I'm on 4.4.4 no custom revovery but with root.
I have an OTA notice to go to lollipop, which should be fine, as I have stock evetything?
How do I simply get root back afer the update?
So many posts with options, I'm struggling to find the right answer.
Unlock bootloader, and then either use cf-autoroot or flash latest SuperSU BETA through twrp.

Thanks, bootloader is already unlocked. I don't really want to install any custom recoveries, so the cf-autoroot sounds like the way to go.
Do you have a link for how to use this method?

to use a custom recovery you don't need to flash it.. just boot it.

Root S6 latest firmware?

Greetings.. I have problem rooting latest firmware g920fxxs4dpge. Is there any working root method? I wanna flash custom rom to improve battery life. Cf Auto root cause error in Odin. Thank you
Flash the latest TWRP recovery onto your phone and install supersu from the recovery.
I think there isn't stable supersu.zip file for my firmware.

It's universal;

Yes, ok... but after flash twrp trough Odin .11, process pass but remain stock recovery on smartphone.
I think that problem is locked bootloader. How to check it if is it locked or unlocked?
This device uses dm-verity!
This means that swiping to allow system modifications will prevent you from being able to boot if you are using the stock kernel. In order to bypass dm-verity's boot prevention, you will have to install a kernel that has dm-verity disabled in the fstab.

Carrier Version Bootloader Locked Workaround for Custom ROMs?

Could you in theory install a custom ROM by rooting the Pixel 3a with King(o) Root then flash recovery via TWRP app or Flashify the img. To then install a custom ROM that from TWRP from there?
I have Sprint version but I'm just wondering in general

That kingo stuff doesn't work. It's a scam if you ask me. And you need to request your carrier to unlock your sim before anything. Then you can proceed to unlock bootloader and whatnot.
Even if there was a way that wasn't a total scam to get root on your verizon locked device, TWRP is broken on any Pixel 3a running Android 10 due to partitioning design changes breaking it. So even if you had TWRP installed, you couldn't actually use it.
The only way to install custom ROMs for now is to flash via fastboot.
