Scrolling smoothness - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) Real Life Review

Some phones exhibit choppy scrolling, especially when navigating long web pages when multiple apps are running in the background. Rate this thread to express how you smooth scrolling feels on the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2016) under such conditions. A higher rating indicates that scrolling is always buttery smooth, even when you're reading a 10,000 word article on "how to kiss a girl".
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Try Djeman's Lineage 13.0 and you'll take that statement back (SM-J320FN only)

Isn't the M the same chipset? I'm not saying go try flash a ROM for the J320M but look into it. Could have sworn I seennit mentioned in a post.

I don't know that one. But I might be able to get that smooth scrolling you're talking about - I'm trying to port Djeman's Lineage to the J320A.

Fair play mate, you may wanna hold up for Lieange 14.1 heard it may be on the horizon. (correct me if I'm wrong) Also, try LSpeed from the playstore (smooth scrolling setting)

I tried that before. It didn't have a noticable effect. I uninstalled it because I didn't know what most of the things it was doing to my phone were.

Fair enough! I've got it installed but I updated my ROM and lost root. Since I don't need root as I flashed Viper4Android I've left it. It just freezes on applying configs... Gonna uninstall it now

Please remove this comment

Figured out my issues with my recovery... If I format my SD card as internal it sends the recovery mental. (Resets config asks for system write permission and language upon booting into it... Not a bug on the ROMs part though.

Built in Screen resolution changer??

I could have sworn there was an option in settings to change the screen resolution to, for example, 1080x1920. However I cannot figure out how(or if) I did it in the past. Maybe I had an app that gave me that option?(even though maybe the option didn't work). I've spent the last half hour going through my phone and caved in and decided to ask. Let me know if I am crazy you guys. thanks.

You must have been using a 3rd party app as the post above stated this is something new Google introduced in android N. It's a nice feature btw instead of having to manually change it with 3rd party apps.

So I got the update for 7.0 but the closet thing I could find as far as changing resolution is the option to lower resolution and frame rate for apps ONLY. Other thing I saw was the slider to change the "zoom" of things. Is this what you guys are referring too?. If not can you lead me in the right direction. The reason is I share a lot of screenshots and it takes a hit on data as well as a bit longer upload times. Thanks.

Not sure how t mobile has it in their settings as I'm on cm 14.1 and it's under settings --> Display --> Display size. But each rom is a little bit different. Maybe someone on stock can chime in as I'm waiting to take a look at the stock Android 7 after it's released as a flashable zip from twrp.
Yeah thats the zoom thing in was talking about. It is called display size, thanks. Isn't that just working kinda like a dpi change. Meaning same resolution but more space?

I love cm 14.1. I use dual boot to boot stock N primary, cm14.1, Tesla and RR as secondary roms. Personally I use resurrection remix 7.1 as my primary ROM. Only issues i care about is no video recording without using footej camera but switch to stock when wanting to record video usually.

Sweet man I'll give it a shot!

Should I bother trying to speed up my s8+?

I bought this phone 2 days ago and I have to say it does have delays stutters and everything. the animations aren't smooth at all.
I was trying to see if anyone had any luck trying to make it faster.
my animations are on 0.5x and i have disabled a lot of packages but freaked out a bit about KNOX. should I disable that too? I'm not sure if it made much of a difference since it's slower but I did get a lot more battery life on my s7 edge after doing this!
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8-mods-remove-carrier-labels/amp/
install the PAS like a normal app. Reboot. Change animations to .2 or .1
Profit.

Thanks! but I think even 0.5x is a bit too slow already! I love animations as long as they're not running at 12fps
The lower the setting the faster the phone will feel. in my opinion. So. .1 or .2 will feel faster than the .5 that you're using
Nope nope nope. If you want butter, and want to blow your d*ck off, install the Unlocked Firmware. Removes bloat, and it is as smooth as my pixel was. I'm seriously in shock still

What's funny is that the only reason this phone lags is Samsung's bloatware!
Can't they just ask us if we want the features at the beginning (First boot? like stock android or Samsung experience)

O hope they will fix it with a software update or something . Or xda guys manage to make lineage os or RESURECTION REMIX stable so we can get rid of lag .

Might be antutu as well. Judst downloaded from apkmirror and it just says there was a problem parsing the package.
Edit: using pm install gives the following
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INTERNAL_ERROR: Failed to extract native libraries: Failed to parse package: /data/app/vmdl371834363.tmp: Inconsistent package com.antutu.ABenchMark in /data/app/vmdl371834363.tmp/base.apk]

Oreo compatibility issues and/or they don't want benchmarks to be run on the device.
Try sideloading the app if possible, via APKMirror or similar site.

tried it,downloaded both apps from apkmirror, latest versions, and tried to run them on mate 9.it says "staging app" and after a few seconds i get an error message "there was a problem parsing the package."
this is crazy, could be from the apps tho.
Edit: i have a leagoo s8 and tried sideloading on it too,and it worked.pretty sure is a compatibility issue tho,as i see antutu is changed, there are some new tests, so i guess that could be the problem.
What about an alternative benchmark program? Maybe it's just that one?
Personally, I'm not into benchmark programs. If the phone seems smooth, quick & snappy, good enough for me.
I guess gamers are another issue, which I understand, but for most people, benchmark programs are kind of worthless, to me
anyway.

I bet that Huawei blocks benchmarks on this build.
It rolled out via HiCare - os update early adopters.
Additionally, I found xml-file with list of popular benchmarks on one of oldest ROM. Don't know why Huawei made it and why stored in /system.
If someone is on Oreo build and has root - please, search for xml-file with names of benchmarks. Maybe it is there.
is it really necessary to know how fast it work? If a benchmark app will run, what does it change???
If the phone is running more or less fast, you could not change that. So for me thinking about that makes no sense.
Sorry, but this is my statement about that.
feel free to start a **** storm now.
There is another bug i noticed.
Autobrightness turned off.... Still dims the screen sometime.
Performance of the Oreo is not consistent as nougat. It is sometimes faster but can get choppy.
At least the battery is the same.

/system/etc/benchmar_app.xml
Removed all [values] in that xml and now antutu can be installed.
Not sure if you need to remove ",verify" from /system in /vendor/etc/fstab.hi3660
I have removed all verify and avb, else if you edit files in /system you might end up in a avb loop.

scrolling fix

A lot of us have faced some blur or sort of scrolling irregularity on android P. It isn't very noticeable but exists. If u copy the following to root/system/build. prop, and reboot, you will notice some improvements. Actually im pretty sure it fixed it. Additionally, if anyone knows what the signal cheat i have in my screenshot does please let me know. Dunno if placebo effect but i have had better LTE all day since adding that. Is this basically the same thing as screen smoothness on Oreo-based custom ROM's (under settings>system) or would it further help with scrolling on Oreo? I haven't tried out P yet.

Dont know depends on if the feature is included inside the oreo source, i think it is just for the shakiness of scrolling in P and the google devs added this to correct it for the one plus 6 latest P preview.. make a backup and try.
