For some reason, in the last few months most of my critical apps such as email are not waking up the device for push notifications even though they are set to "Protected" and to "Ignore Battery Optimizations". The only apps which seems to be able to wake up the device is WhatsApp and my Alarm Clock (Alarm Clock xTreme) and the standard SMS Messaging / calls. The notifications immediately arrive either when I wake up the device manually or if a SMS comes in waking up the device; either way, the device needs to be woken up manually by something for the notifications to come through. It seems as if the device is going into some sort of deep sleep and doesn't wake up.
I have tried everything I can think of to fix this issue with no success and it is vital to me to receive my emails as they arrive and not when I turn on the device.
Does anyone have any suggestions? FYI I am using the Yahoo email app.

I'm back on cm13... Push notifications works good for me on all apps... GPS still falls asleep but after several reboots it seems to stay awake until a reboot, then the cycle starts again
The only version which supports push correctly is b202 from March 2017.

Thanks for your replies. I am again trying to figure out what is different about WhatsApp that is flawless with notifications whereas other apps are not. Is there an exclusion list somewhere for this package and/or does Google Services Framework (a system app) have a GCM exclusion list somewhere?

I went back 2 b202 and GPS would fall to sleep from a couple of hours to maybe 12hrs on my l703... Same with kangvip v3. Staying with cm13... Camera zoom not working is ok with me. If it were optical zoom, then it would be a problem.
Did you really install the version from March 2017? The old 202 has these issues. The new one worked fine for me.

but "Huawei firmware finder" app is the only sure way to install this march 2017 B202
EDITED/REVISED:
I am just looking a little bit deeper into this and what I am finding is that while there still is a bug where apps do not wake up the device even though they are set to "Protected" and to "Ignore Battery Optimizations", Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) broadcasts are working fine as they should if 3 simple conditions are met:
To test GCM broadcasts and waking up the device, I used a free simple app called "Push Notification Tester" (LINK BELOW) and used it to send a simple GCM broadcast but with a delay of up to 200 seconds, quickly pressed the "HOME" button so that it is not in the foreground (just in case) and pressed the power button to put the phone in standby/off. After 200 seconds with the phone off, the notification came every time AS LONG AS:
* The "Delivery Priority" was set to "HIGH" and not "Normal" - This is important because GCM broadcasts with a "Delivery Priority" of "Normal" do not wake up the device if "Doze" mode is activated as a part of Android 6.0+, where as a "Delivery Priority" of "High" does.
* The App initiating the GCM broadcast must be "Protected" in EMUI so that it does not get killed and is able to receive the GCM broadcast
* The App initiating the GCM broadcast (in this case Push Notification Tester) must have "Priority Display" Permission set to enabled in App Info -> Notifications! This is important also
This tells me that if apps simply used Google's built-in GCM API and used a high Delivery Priority, then all notifications should theoretically come through every time. Moreover, WhatsApp is probably simply using the GCM API which makes it reliable.
It's a shame that Huawei can't simply fix this stupid trivial/simple bug within its own EMUI that doesn't let user-set "Protected"/"Ignore Batt Opt" apps create a partial wakelock, but perhaps our only pathetic workaround might be to create a list of apps that properly use GCM. Another workaround might be to somehow change the GCM Delivery Priority to "High" for certain (or all) apps that use GCM
What are your thoughts???

Play Store link for Push Notification Tester: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.firstrowria.pushnotificationtester&hl=en
You can watch events via monitor within pnf app .
There you'll see that events do come in for gmail, but not for other apps you want.
The apps use own protocol to receive push, during running
There is a app Huawei push notifications manager which only works in b202
My device: Mate 9 supersu B190 Mediapad X2 GEM 701->703 B212 KangVIP (AJ mod)
If the Android wants an App to go to sleep, it sends a command to this app. The app must answer that it requests to receive push and register to the part of google play service, wich is responsible for that.
This is the step which isn't working natively. So Huawei has a specific system-app which should do that, but only works correctly on b202 March 2017
Some apps don't register and then no push will occur to wake them up.
I tried to copy that app to b212, but it seems to have a partner routine in standard or a specific configuration.

So i have a P8 not a P8 max, but there is no forum for the P8...
I have a Moto 360 that will just not receive notifications from my P8.
Motorola Connect is installed, AndroidWear is installed. Both apps are protected in the power saving section of the settings.
But it seems unless the screen on the phone is on, the notifications dont come through to the watch. I never had this problem before switching to the P8.
I have tried all the normal factory resets etc but it just does not work.
I'm also on the latest version of EMUI - GRA-L09C432b200

Oops! Its been a while since i have been on here! Thanks
After updating to B211 I notice, that push notifications for Gmail is not working in sleep (screen off, 3-5 minutes after lock)! Perfectly work when screen is on or in charge mode!
I've tried a lot of power management options, add Gmail to all-time-worked soft! No result, unlocking phone shows me new Gmail messages! Whatsapp and Viber perfectly function on new Android.
What's up? Will root help to solve the problem?
same problem here!

Gmail sometimes work during the sleep, but most of the time it sounds when I unlock the phone. Viber also has some timeouts during the sleep, but not as frequently as Gmail.
I have tried all combinations of settings in the Phone Manager.
Must say that B211 gets much more responsive and stable one week after installation. Notifications delay and some quirks with network lags are all the issues I have at the moment.

Hello team,
As you probably know, there is probably an issue in EMUI and killing «automatic processes» application like Tasker & Macrodroid even though they are activated in protected mode and in ignore list of optimization.
I have tried Tasker & Macrodroid as far now without any luck. EMUI version NXT-L29C432B320
Any advise please ?

I'm running Android 7.0 with EMUI 5.1 on Huawei P10 and I experienced that my Runkeeper is killed time to time as well.
I just found a hidden menu with battery optimization. Go to Settings >> Apps >> Settings (a gear icon at the bottom) >> Special access >> Ignore battery optimization. Found your app and disallow the optimization.
I haven't tried that yet but it might help.
update: no, it does not work, Runkeeper is still being killed :-/

Hi, just bought a mate 30 pro a few days ago without google services. I side loaded all the apps I needed and everything was working great until I realised I wasn't getting my facebook messenger notifications. If the app is open they come through but when I close the app it's like it goes to sleep after about 5 mins. I made messenger my default sms app to see if that would help and all my texts worked fine but my facebook messages just won't work.
I have all my notifications on, app launch set to manual to allow auto-launch, secondary launch and run in background. I even allowed all permissions but didn't make a difference. I have performance mode on and have selected stay connected when device sleeps.
Has anyone else had any problems like this or know how to fix it? I've done a factory reset and been through every option I could think of. I love the mate 30 pro but probably going to have to get rid of it if i can't fix this problem.

Go to notification settings and turn on sounds and "on top" option. All notifications works well for me - asian version of mate 30 pro.
Same thing happened to me. What i did was reset phone update to the firmware and after that it went back to normal. For some reason it stopped working after i used the app phone clone tranffering old apps from my old mate 10. Hope it helps...
Same with me on my Mate 30 Pro 5G chuna version
Manage launch already set manuall and auto launch, secondary launch and keep running background all is ON..but same no notif
Yes..same in here too..mate 30 pro 5G china
All launch manually,it means run background, auto start always on..but still no luck..after 5 mins idle..no notif.
But my fren have it with global rom,and it work normally
No lock apps
I wonder if the reasons behind this problem are also the reason behind 'alarms' not going off sometimes. For example, I have an app called 'Alarm Clock Radio', and it seems like it needs to be the 'front' app for the alarm to remain set overnight? It seems to work just fine if I 'test' it by setting alarms in the near future, but it rarely lasts overnight. This app adds a notification when it has an alarm set, but that is sometimes not there and that seems to be coincident with the alarm not working...
oh, and also Accubattery, that is supposed to alert you when the charge gets to a certain level, but sometimes doesn't....

I made the changes to the 'Battery optimisation', so that the apps that I want to run long term, for whatever reason, aren't 'killed'...ie set to "Don't allow - May drain your battery more quickly"; but they still don't last until the next morning. I would have thought that apps like 'Alarm clock radio' would set some kind of system alarm that would launch the radio app, rather than have to have the app running continuously.
I ran the app Push Notification Tester and it comes back with error after 4 tests. Not registered for push notifications. It doesn’t matter if you change settings or not you don’t receive push notifications. Weird because I get normal SMS and WhatsApp just fine!

I think it has to do with the Mate 30 Pro not being registered with google and because so many apps as made for the google services, you can’t get Push Notifications to work 100%
All apps that reply on play service to send push notifications wont work you cant pass all the test.

Indeed. My question is do all apps on Google Android require GMS to send Push Notifications?
I ask because I know that not only Google run the notification services, but do they all use the GMSes on Google Android phones, or can phones have multiple on-device services to consolidate communications with cloud-based push notification services?
Can, eg, a Pixel phone, also install Huawei Managed Services?

Apps like the whatsapp, messenger, viber etc still work. Apps that work perfectly before you install the GMS will receive push notifications. Because they dont rely on the play service.

Exactly, I realised after installing GMS on Mate 30 Pro that push notification on Gmail, Outlook and most apps are not working. Instant messaging, social media and messenger are working just okay with or without GMS.
I just installed GMS on my mate30 pro, everything works well, just push notification is not working.
I ran the tester and there is a error of registration error of push notification.
How to fix this?
Hello
I bought Mate 30 pro 5G LIO N29 three weeks ago and I been having really annoying issues with push notifications from lot of list of apps, its actually weird that there's just Whatsapp and other Huawei apps have push notifications working but not for so many others.
I sideloaded apps and they all up to date, I made sure the app have all permission needed, app launch is set to manual and everything is active there, in Battery optimization I set "Not allowed" for these apps, I enabled "Stay active when device sleeps"... I dont know what else I can do there....
so apps list is what I can actually remember now: Skype, Discord, LINE chat, SofaScore, LiveScore, Amazon Shopping, Reddit, Twitch, and few more....
So while I have these apps running, I can get notification while using them, but the moment I go to home screen or just lock the phone, its absolutely dead. and nothing work at all, except Huawei apps and whatsapp, I even restored my phone factory settings couple of times and installed only Skype just for testing but still no push notifications there
Phone is is updated to this day, Android 10 December 1, 2019, EMUI 10.0.0.192 patch02
if someone please could help me figure this out.... I would really really appreciate it <3
I read that you have sideloaded apps.
One question: Have you sideloaded GMS?
Quite a fine bit of apps, depends on GMS for push notification.
After sideloading GMS, allow all permission for google play services and set "not allowed" in battery optimization. Other apps you can leave them as "allowed".

Man, I would never ever thought these apps would need GMS in order for them to have push notifications working, I just sideloaded GMS and everything working fine! didn't even need to do any of battery optimization or app launch stuffs at all, Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! :good:
It would really suck if you cant sideload GMS on this phone, apparently too many apps depend on that.
I have side loaded Google services, stopped battery optimisation for apps and manual launch as well. But still not getting notified from alot of apps. ?

To the necessary application: a) give — all rights, and b) allow, for it — all notifications, in “Settings”; 2) Put the necessary application, under the “lock”, in the background (in “Running applications”, pull the shortcut of the Required applications down and let go);
3) Launch of the Required application — disable automatic control, launch only in manual mode (for it, activate all three “check-boxes”: 1) Autostart, 2) Indirect launch, 3) Work in the background), in: " Manager ">" Launch applications ";

There was no solution for this miserable problem, Many apps including WhatsApp just goes to sleep after a while.
I almost risked something extremely crucial as I didn't get a WhatsApp message delivered to me on time. Gave up on the phone the next minute and switched back to a less-complicated phone.
