Is possible to install (and run) the XZP/S camera on orther smartphone? - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

HI comunity!
I'm pretty much noob in practice... I do not think it will work.. But if I take XZ's camera software, and install it on another cellphone (along with the camera), can it work? Or if someone is already working on it?

What for? Surely all current Sony phones are running pretty much the same camera software with different features enabled depending on the hardware?

In practice I would install the camera on another smartphone , Because I prefer (except for automatic mode, but I do not use it ever) it, As well as being able to make superslowmotion (960 fps), the photos are more natural, and not oversatureted likely s8/g6 etx, Good details, good stabilization.. etx
I went a bit ot, anyway, basically I want to install the XZp/s's camera (hardware) on another device , and make it running, And so I think I would need a software (probably special, Although I hope [though I doubt] that I can run with sony software) to turn it into another smartphone

Well without the camera sensor found on the XZP/s you can't do super slow motion as it has built in DRAM to cache the video.

It's DEFINITELY not possible to use key features on other phones. It's all about hardware sensors, not only software.
There are "general" camera applications that can be installed on pretty muh every phone. This is a specific application, designed for XZP.

[Q] Camera app alternatives?

Hello everyone!
My question is rather simple, which applications do you use as an alternative to the stock camera app?
I would like to hear opinions of people who have tried more of them and decided in the end for something else than stock.
Maybe also list pros and cons for each.
Thank you very much for your help!

We use stock, so...why do you what to change it anyway?
It' s very good.
Thank you for your reply. Personally, for me it's the interface where I need to go into Settings for any adjustment. Moreover, HDR is limited only to 8MP. And more choice when it comes to scene modes would be nice.

In PlayStore you'll find some alternatives.
Some are paid apps, but just read the Description and the Reviews, to make up your mind.

Thank you for trying to help, however what I'm interested in are experiences of people with different apps. For example, I was recommended Manual Camera app which turned out to be quite useless without the new API being supported by this phone.
I use Camera FV-5 and like it best...tried some others (stock, a better camera, google camera) and for editing i like pics art...

I search for another camera app too. The stock camera app doesn't include effect for high res photo (8MP or more). Also, it doesn't produce vivid color like Samsung/LG G3 stock camera app. Up until now, i use Camera360 in its easy mode.
Very usefull, and i think its better in some aspect (like saturation and effect).
But i'm still looking for the best app.
Try Snap cam. I use it all the time. It takes great shots

Lollipop for more camera-control?

Hi folks,
I am thinking of upgrading to Lollipop to profit from the new camera-controls. From what I read, there is an app called "Manual Camera" (not allowed to post external links, hmpf) which makes use of Lollipop's Camera2 API to gain more control over camera settings like shutter-speed, aperture etc. This attracts me a lot, since I am quite a photo-geek.
BUT BUT BUT: everything runs super-smooth with my rooted stock 4.4.2 system on my N9005 right now (see specs below), and it is my one and only phone in everyday use. So, I am really not sure if I should throw the L-word to it?!? ...I was already about to do it, made all the neccessary backups, but then started to brood.
After all: it seems not so clear if there will be a way to root it again afterwards?! Anyone knows anything about the issue? After a lot of searching I downloaded a 6.48.4 PhilZTouch Recovery, that is said to be compatible with Lollipop. Even if that was true, havn´t found a rooted kernel yet...
Not to talk about the re-configuration-struggle...
So, I would love to hear your opinions, in order to somehow make some progress with this decision...
Thank you so much!
PS: It seems I won´t get any update via Samsung servers because of the rooting... possible?

I'm quite curious how an app would be able to change a hardware-fixed aperture...
Plenty of camera apps that allow manual settings, as much as the hardware permits. Personally I quite like ProCapture and Camera FV-5. Though I find I generally reach for my DSLR when I intend to take a decent photo, rather than my Note 3.

Hi Lea, I already expected this objection to come but I wasn´t sure if the aperture was fixed or not. Does not really matter to me anyway, because even with the fixed aperture, there could be much more control over the exposure settings than there is at the moment.
I have been using ProCapture for years and recently tried Camera FV-5 to see if it would satisfy my needs. Unfortunately it does not. Here are some examples of what I would like to do, and what should be possible from the hardware aspects, but none of the available apps seem to allow.
But before the examples, here is the reason, why I would love to get the max. out of my Note3's camera: I use to be in the austrian mountains a lot doing all kinds of mountain-sports. Mostly it is not an option whatsoever to take my Nikon D700 with me. I have ordered a Canon Powershot S200 a few days ago to fill the gap, but if I could do all the work with my Note3 (e.g. taking good pictures in addition to navigating, communicating, route planning etc.) I would be even happier because often times I really need to be strict about weight...
1) Bracketing for later HDR processing.
Often times (e.g. small but strong light source from the front) the exposure metering of the phone does not find the correct setting as a starting point for the bracketing. That can easily lead to the point, that not even the "furtherest away exposure" (plz. excuse my english) of the bracketing (e.g. +/-2 ) neither is what I want and that makes the whole series unusable for later HDR processing. With ProCapture, Bracketing is not available at all and with Camera FV-5 when using Bracketing, the manual exposure compensation is not available.
2) Timer + Bracketing.
If you give this a try, you will see what bloody nonsense Camera FV-5 does: it runs the timer before every exposure of the series when all I want is to later create an HDR image on which I appear myself. -> Not possible.
3) ISO control.
Camera FV-5 shows the ISO values when taking a picture. Assuming it tells us the truth, there can also be values below 100 ISO. But why can´t I set such values manually?
Conclusio: I don´t know anything about the hardware, as you already revealed but I assume there must be much more than the current software allows to get out of N9005's lens.

Same here with lolipop aryamod rom.
We don't have the proper camera2 API on our lollipop ROM. It's just a wrapper of the old camera API.

[BOUNTY] Port MIUI camera to CM 12.1/13 rom

I dont know about you guys but I belive the MIUI camera is excellent, it has fast shutter speed and image processing. I have tried a lot of camera apps when I was on CM rom and none of them could match it.
Other members are welcome to donate (I will update the post) and to start of I will be putting $10 in the bounty for anyone who can port the MIUI camera to CM.

There are another options, as the OPO cam that has been ported to many devices, or the Cyanogen Camera, that it's which I have been using till now. That last is very good, it has many options to configure, including HDR and Slow-Mo video recording in HD. It's in another thread of xda.

I flashed the one from here (ver 5.8 ) and its working great, with very good picture quality (i would say its like stock miui camera, only some options dont work). What i find very cool is the "moving people" Option. It realy takes clear pictures, even if someone is moving fast (good when you have a little child, which never stands still ). With this Option i get shuttertimes faster than 1/300 sec.
I only miss the HDR PRO Option from miui camera.
Thanks @ekkilm for the tip and the link in your forum on your Website

Thanks, I was on 3.6 and thought I'll try 5.8 and I can confirm the shutter speed is definitely faster than 3.6 so I'm happy with that. Which rom you on now?
After a few tests, indoor at lowlight, miui takes clearer photos I.e. better focused.
I'll try this when I try cm at some point but I'm still hoping for a miui camera port.

Can somebody port Xperia Z4 camera?
I would also donate 20$ via Paypal for the port.
It's not about the handling/design of the MIUI camera app. It's more about the (probably closed-source) libraries to use all features of the Sony camera/lense and to get the best picture quality.

thanks for recommendation
for me it's far better than MIUI or lenovo super camera, as it doesn't use so aggressive noise reduction which is especially visible at higher ISO levels - for me, MIUI camera smears away way too much detail.
also, the shutter speed seems very good
_________
EDIT: a bug found!
after you run oppo camera, all camera apps use only warmer flash, the colder one stays off, some camera apps don't enable the flashlight at all (even if you force the flash) - like CameraMX. only the system torch works properly
can't tell what's the reason, but as soon as you uninstall the oppo camera app, both leds return to normal work

Maybe you could point us in a direction where we can get the plugins? They have been taken down due to DMCA claim.
Opo cam is not that good. some plugins crash the app, overall it is not as good as Cyanogen Camera imo. Are there any other good alternatives?
And yes, would be nice if miui cam got ported.
Full Potential
I was looking through some files from the EU weekly ROM and found some interesting files. As you can see in the image there is files in system/vendor/lib such as imx258_HFR_120. HFR stands for high frame rate and 120 suggests 120fps recording while the stock camera app for me seems to record at about 49 fps at 720p. The specifications of the camera sensor found here: http://www.sony.net/Products/SC-HP/IS/sensor1/img/products/ProductBrief_IMX258_20151015.pdf say the sensor is capable of 1080p at 60fps. Can someone please try unlock the full potential of our camera?

Isn't it used for the slow motion? The full HD is indeed consistent at 29-30 fps and 4K videos are nearly half of it, not sure about 720p though.
That's what I mean, I only get 49fps at slow motion and other camera apps can't record at higher than 30fps.
i'm using cm and i miss a feature from my previous smiui.
in smiui i could take pics while pressing volume down.
i like to take a quick photo without wasting time.
i looked around and just found those spy stuff things but nothing like the miui feature.
would it be possible to port this with the original camera ?
i would also donate some money (10€ or more) for a port of these features.

im not quite sure what you mean, but the hwcamera from either honor8 or p9 are not working on a CM ROM. it needs libs to actually be shown as an installed app.
i tried every proper camera app: cameringo+, retrica, fv5, camera-fx, open camera
and even silly ones: 360, candy camera
all of the above either dont run at all, produce sub-par results since they dont address the camera api/kernel properly, and none can capture video properly at min 30fps.
as long as this very decent camera in this phones pricerange isnt properly used in custom ROMS, im not even bothering with any builds. its just a waste of time, when the core selling point for this phone isnt working properly.
id love to keep using resurrectionremix, since i love that ROM, but as mentioned above - waste

This is something you deal with when you CM/aosp based roms. People think they can have their cake and eat it to. This is not the case. CM has had bad camera code for years and they really can't do anything about it without recording their libs and system from the ground up.

Important for community

I bought a new gr5 2017 its a very awesome phone but we need more threads for best camera setup how to take better photos also best battery life guides and custom rom/ kernel whos agreed?
What do you mean with best camera setup, exactly? I think that the camera setup (except the automatic mode obviously) will always vary depending by different situations... So experimenting various modalities and camera settings is a great chance to take confidence and create a personal setup of yours. I agree on battery life threads, i mean there are already threads about it but new tricks and tweakings to prolong the duration would always be appreciated. Guides for custom roms, if i got what you're saying, are already in custom rom thread's OP... Or you was referring to something else?
I think he meant camera setup in pro mode (like ISO, shutter speed...etc)

Yes and it is just what i meant too. An unique camera setup won't never fits with all the situations you'll encounter, nor every ambiance obviously since that focus, aperture, iso and every you can modify to obtain a nice pic would immediately vary from a situation to another, so a "default" best camera settings isn't a doable thing to me

Same here ahahah now that we're in argument, the auto mode normally detects by itself the best settings for the environment on THAT moment, so it should automatically be classified as the best setup available, if we're not professional photographers and overall if Huawei's synchronized that function with the camera in a good manner.
