im not quite sure what you mean, but the hwcamera from either honor8 or p9 are not working on a CM ROM. it needs libs to actually be shown as an installed app.
i tried every proper camera app: cameringo+, retrica, fv5, camera-fx, open camera
and even silly ones: 360, candy camera
all of the above either dont run at all, produce sub-par results since they dont address the camera api/kernel properly, and none can capture video properly at min 30fps.
as long as this very decent camera in this phones pricerange isnt properly used in custom ROMS, im not even bothering with any builds. its just a waste of time, when the core selling point for this phone isnt working properly.
id love to keep using resurrectionremix, since i love that ROM, but as mentioned above - waste

This is something you deal with when you CM/aosp based roms. People think they can have their cake and eat it to. This is not the case. CM has had bad camera code for years and they really can't do anything about it without recording their libs and system from the ground up.

[Q] How can I have both AOSP and TW camera's?

The title pretty much says what I'm looking for.
The AOSP camera has the simple time lapse video recording. I know there are other apps that can do this, but the overall better experience I have had with the AOSP version is what I want.
The only way you can have the touch wiz camera is if you use a touch wiz Rom. I'm not entirely sure if the aosp camera will work on touch wiz but I don't see why it wouldn't.
well, Im on a touchwiz rom. Im thinking if I try to either flash or install it in the system apps, its going to replace, or try to replace the touchwiz camera. Other then doing a nandroid and just trying it, any other thoughts?

Replacing it in zip and flashing is the way to do it. My guess is it is going to FC anyway. Could be wrong but will at least probably lose some integration supported by Touchwiz.
It won't work.I don't understand why you and this guy: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/35342-port-request-touchwiz-cameracamcorder-for-aosp-roms/ are so hellbent on getting the TW camera. Yes, it takes better pictures but if you are really looking for quality maybe you should be using a DSLR or something anyway.

What he said. And also i don't notice a huge in quality of pictures anyways and i've been on AOSP jellybean the past couple weeks. All my pictures turn out to look really nice, or maybe i'm just crazy. The AOSP camera really is not that bad at all. Its missing a few features, but that's about it.
The TW camera just runs smooth already. Other camera apps lag or FC, or missing features. Its not a quality issue. I dont know why Samsung left the time lapse feature out.
And I do have a DSLR for my good pics. but DSLR is not nearly as accessible and ready
There are plenty of camera apps that are from the market that dont replace the TW camera. How can we make the AOSP one like a regular app like those?

That's 1 Gb more than cm of stuff I don't use. I like very lean roms that occupy less space and are highly performant.

I had cm on Verizon galaxy nexus! I started getting upset at the time it took to get to stable builds.
I doubt AOSP will be able to make the Duo Camera work. So, no special effects like focusing on different parts and other junk like that.
Might as well stick with Sense 6. It seems to be working very well so far.
surprisingly enough i dont mind sense...not the case with that steaming load Samsung calls Touchwiz. I would like to get back to aosp roms but i want the sense camera or one that can utilize the dual camera functions. That wont be long off...htc release the api for the dual camera so there will be options soon enough

HTC wants 3rd party development on the camera. They released an SDK. That may help.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-releases-dual-lens-sdk-for-the-htc-one-m8-2014/
My issues with sense revolves around the lockscreen and how it handles notification sounds.
With sense in place dashclock, which I prefer, I can't replace the stock lockscreen. Even using AOSP lock screen on Viper is not optimal since my tasker script does not allow me to situationally disable/reenable the lock screen.
There seems to be an issue on how sense handles notifications. I use a third party app to give me situational sound profiles, similar to what is offered in CM. When using it with sense I don't get reliable results. The built in sound profiles in sense aren't flexible enough.
Maybe I've just been using AOSP too long but I find sense too restrictive for how I use my phone.

I actually LIKE Sense (and completely agree about TouchWiz.) I have liked Sense back to the earliest versions but CyanogenMod has been my daily driver for a very long time. I am delighted to see Invisiblek is on the M8 project, I hope CM will be here soon and I'll be switching ROMs as I did with my Galaxy S3 and S4, running CyanogenMod until a problem shows up in a nightly and then switching back to Andybone's most excellent Bonestock ROM until CM gets fixed again. Eventually, CM became perfect (for me) on the Galaxy phones and I could stop switching and I know that's what will happen with the M8.

"Frankly, it'd be silly to have extra hardware on a phone that's completely unusable, so the Google Play edition will still take advantage of the Duo Camera functionality. Predictably, the app itself is the stock Google version, but the HTC magic comes out as soon as you enter the Photos app and try editing your shots. You'll be prompted to open up "HTC Photo Edit," and you'll see a screen that looks much like what you'd find in the Sense gallery, but with fewer options: UFocus, Dimension Plus and Touch Up are the only Duo Camera-esque effects listed, which means the Foregrounder, Seasons and Copy/Paste functions didn't make the cut. (Filters, frames and tools are still hanging out on the right sidebar.) UFocus is our favorite of the Duo Camera options, so we're glad to see it there, but Dimension Plus is a useless and gimmicky feature that we just don't use very often."

it seems like the driver and photo editing software that is the real key behind dual cameras is on gpe so those should port over seamlessly to aosp based roms.

Camera app

Hi guys,
I don't know if somebody had already created such thread, but I want to ask you if anybody know any app which allows me to use manual focusing, expositure, shutter speed and/or/will support RAW format. I know, lumia 1020 has such camera app, but I didn't find ported version
I have AOSP ROM, so I am unable to use LG G2's camera app, which allows me most of the things I've mentioned.
Look in the g2 forums, there is a flashable camera for aosp ROMs and works great on the g3.
In which thread it is or how its called?
EDIT I found the one you've mentioned. LG Stock Camera for AOSP ROMs
Could you post a link for reference? Thank you

If you're still looking for it, I'm using Mi2Raw Camera app for capturing RAW photos on my G2 with OptimusG3 ROM. It works great, you can also manually focus by tapping the screen or adjust the exposure. But the app itself still needs some work... I'm not sure if it's going to work on the G3, but you can try it as it works on G3-based ROMs.

Hi everybody. The camera is a big issue for everybody who use cm12. I checked already more than 10 cameta programs, but no one good solution. I tryed LG Camera for AOSP, its was done for LG G2, and that apk is working very good like stock apk. But on CM12 the apk not show setings, nothing at all, but in automatic mode that apk get the best pictures quality till yet. I hope somebody from developers will find solution for that big issue for all G3 ussers, because a lot of people buy that model because of good camera.

I have tried the app you had posted, but it seems like it does not work on LG G3, it showed me a message that "This app only works for LG G2, Xiaomi..." and some other phones.
I am now runing the AN HD ROM, because I had some troubles with the CM12 ROM - battery drain, heating up and my camera wasnt working at all (FC, camera freezed after taking pic with flash and the quality of the pics were really poor).
Thanks for the tips, tho.

sorry for being so late, here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540030
G3 doesnt support exposuretime and manual shutter.
Also manual focus is broken with l.
With l the camparameters returns exposuretime but its ignored when setting it to the cam.
That means for camera2 the g3 will stay as legacy device and will not have manual settings and dng support. We have to wait for the g4 to get full camera2 support. These are just my thoughts because i know that lg not cares about adding new features to old devices....

LG G3 AOSP Camera quality solution

Hi everybody,
A lot of people buy that model because of camera quality, a lot of us like AOSP based roms. But the camera lost quality because of LG framework issue. I tryed i lot of camera programs, but results are worst. Only the apk LG camera for AOSP (for LG2) get very good quality, and i compared to stock LG G3 camera. But that apk not give any settings, also flash setings on CM12 based roms. I am sure it is big issue for all of us. If simebody can recommend some solution, will be great!

Hi, same for me. I only hope some dev can give it a try and solve this issue... Fix the G2 apk could be a nice start ! At least fix the settungs like you said.
Btw, give a try to resurrection remix rom, cause the camera quality is very nice. I'm on it since the beginnig and recording is so far better than the others, smooth and fast. It's probably between stock LG camera and XCam
i Think its a Driver Problem
Camera quality cant be solved yet.I read somewhere that devs are trying to improve but i think that quality wont even get close to stock .
Hope for the best
Jishnu's Camera f40
Jishnu's Camera f40 give perfect quality, i compared to stock LG Camera on stock firmware, and no difinerenses. But settings works not properly. And problem with size of camera monitoring on display, but size of pictures are right. I tryed on Resurrection Lollipop v5.2.5 and 5.0.2 Euphoria-OS 1.0. I think some little tuning of mod and we can get best present to ney year.

i think many of us would honor this and donate for a aosp quality cam solution!
Jishnu's Camera the MOD for the Stock anyone has some news about it? for the Lollipop
Maybe it's possible to port the LG framework to aosp or just the libs it require to make the camera works. I remember the folks at miui used to make a ton based on the stock one so all the things works fine. So if we could make a port of cm inside the stock or the other we could make it work.
I am also thought about that. I hope one of developers will give us good solution. I am sure a lot of us will donate for that issue.

This wouldn't work for me. It mounts and installed into /system/app, but I noticed in Illusion, that folder is filled with folders, unlike in older versions of android. I also tried manually installing the APK into the same folder as the original camera app, removing it and correcting permissions, but no go.

Lollipop for more camera-control?

Hi folks,
I am thinking of upgrading to Lollipop to profit from the new camera-controls. From what I read, there is an app called "Manual Camera" (not allowed to post external links, hmpf) which makes use of Lollipop's Camera2 API to gain more control over camera settings like shutter-speed, aperture etc. This attracts me a lot, since I am quite a photo-geek.
BUT BUT BUT: everything runs super-smooth with my rooted stock 4.4.2 system on my N9005 right now (see specs below), and it is my one and only phone in everyday use. So, I am really not sure if I should throw the L-word to it?!? ...I was already about to do it, made all the neccessary backups, but then started to brood.
After all: it seems not so clear if there will be a way to root it again afterwards?! Anyone knows anything about the issue? After a lot of searching I downloaded a 6.48.4 PhilZTouch Recovery, that is said to be compatible with Lollipop. Even if that was true, havn´t found a rooted kernel yet...
Not to talk about the re-configuration-struggle...
So, I would love to hear your opinions, in order to somehow make some progress with this decision...
Thank you so much!
PS: It seems I won´t get any update via Samsung servers because of the rooting... possible?

I'm quite curious how an app would be able to change a hardware-fixed aperture...
Plenty of camera apps that allow manual settings, as much as the hardware permits. Personally I quite like ProCapture and Camera FV-5. Though I find I generally reach for my DSLR when I intend to take a decent photo, rather than my Note 3.

Hi Lea, I already expected this objection to come but I wasn´t sure if the aperture was fixed or not. Does not really matter to me anyway, because even with the fixed aperture, there could be much more control over the exposure settings than there is at the moment.
I have been using ProCapture for years and recently tried Camera FV-5 to see if it would satisfy my needs. Unfortunately it does not. Here are some examples of what I would like to do, and what should be possible from the hardware aspects, but none of the available apps seem to allow.
But before the examples, here is the reason, why I would love to get the max. out of my Note3's camera: I use to be in the austrian mountains a lot doing all kinds of mountain-sports. Mostly it is not an option whatsoever to take my Nikon D700 with me. I have ordered a Canon Powershot S200 a few days ago to fill the gap, but if I could do all the work with my Note3 (e.g. taking good pictures in addition to navigating, communicating, route planning etc.) I would be even happier because often times I really need to be strict about weight...
1) Bracketing for later HDR processing.
Often times (e.g. small but strong light source from the front) the exposure metering of the phone does not find the correct setting as a starting point for the bracketing. That can easily lead to the point, that not even the "furtherest away exposure" (plz. excuse my english) of the bracketing (e.g. +/-2 ) neither is what I want and that makes the whole series unusable for later HDR processing. With ProCapture, Bracketing is not available at all and with Camera FV-5 when using Bracketing, the manual exposure compensation is not available.
2) Timer + Bracketing.
If you give this a try, you will see what bloody nonsense Camera FV-5 does: it runs the timer before every exposure of the series when all I want is to later create an HDR image on which I appear myself. -> Not possible.
3) ISO control.
Camera FV-5 shows the ISO values when taking a picture. Assuming it tells us the truth, there can also be values below 100 ISO. But why can´t I set such values manually?
