Screen damage - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

Hey people. My wife's 2 month old Honor 6x has been having a problem with the display on and off. We were planning to take it to the service centre and I just happened to drop it into the toilet bowl
Now I am wondering if the service guys blame it on the water damage. Any idea what could be done now? Has anyone gone through this ordeal? :crying:

no matter what, he will offcourse be blaming you on the water damage, he might not charge you, i think warenty got you backed up?

water damage just takes about the service charges, and service charges are covered within warranty, so, i think, yes

Rommco05 said:
I think no, u will probably pay from repair. If phone don't have any IP certification (water resistance) is waranty invalid... that's logic. So say true and wait for bill. But definitelly go to autorized service!! Because just he can open phone and your warranty will be continued after repair

they didn't charge me for a water damage of honor 5x, so there's high chance that they will not charge

I'm not saying that honor's services are great, but they didn't charge me for a water damage since I had no serious hardware damage or any malfunctions of any parts, it was just a service charge, so

Update
Got screen replaced at extra cost ₹6000/$90/€80.
Then there was touch sensitivity issue and random wierdness. Sent back for repair again.
Then the cell wouldn't switch on. Have given it for fixing (AGAIN!!! :crying: ). Warranty is void. The service guys says the problem will be henceforth persistent due to issue with motherboard.
Have only paid 2 EMIS till date and the warranty is Kaput. Just wanna sell this fellow off and buy another one.
Could anyone from Bangalore suggest where I could sell the phone for a decent price (hoping to get atleast ₹10k)??? He's only 2 months old sans warranty.

haha wowwww we im gonna try tommorow and hpe i wont need to pay them for a new phone. wish me luck D
Are you gonna try to use the regular warranty? Or are you talking about the warranty that you pay for monthly where you need to pay a 130$ deductible for a new phone?
Because that looks pretty badly damaged. It would suck if they got it and then charged your account because it was damaged. I'm no sure what there policy on that is.
i was gonna try with the regular warranty

Thanks. I got mine in early November. I have less than a month to replicate the fuzzy earpiece consistently I guess. Do I need to prove to the rep in the store that it's not working? I've never done a warranty exchange on a phone.

No, dial 611 on your phone. That will take you directly to TMO. Whent he automated machine asks you your reason for calling, just say "CANCEL." That will take you directly to cusotmer service.
Explain your problem and they'll do an exchange for you.
I've done it like 6 times, lol.

Yes, HTC.
Anywhere else will be voiding your warranty and won't have any guarantee of proper repair.

I would send it to htc but thats very time consuming and i don't have a replacement phone. Not to mention they charge $130 for the repair itself.

That's par for the course. The display and the glass are bonded together using industrial strength epoxies, trying to remove the glass will destroy the display in the process. Standard going rate for such repairs would be 130-200 dollars depending upon how expensive the replacement display assembly is and how complicated the device is to disassemble.

One X with water damage. ATT Rep gave me warranty exchanged... am I screwed?

Dropped my HOX in the toilet 2 days ago. Let it dry out and it worked fine. Plugged it into a faulty car charger today like an idiot, and it fried my phone. Wouldn't charge, wouldn't turn on.
So I removed the red liquid damage sticker by the SIM card, took it to an ATT Device Center and they gave me a warranty exchange. The rep never asked me about water damage or drops and never even LOOKED for the sticker. He also never mentioned the disclaimer about how if it had physical/liquid damage then I would get charged.
I know when you do an exchange over the phone, the rep is required to have you agree to pay if they find physical/liquid damage. But at the warranty center today it was not even mentioned.
Am I in the clear? I can't see how they could back charge me when these terms were not even explained to me.

They refurbish these things. They'll look inside at the service center and see corrosion/damage and trace it back to you. I can understand doing a warranty exchange for a permabrick (because service centers can fix those with JTAGs), but doing one for a physically damaged device is pretty grimey. That aside, you didn't ask for personal judgement.
TL;DR: I'd say you might be screwed.

They don't have to explain those terms, I do believe its in your contract. Or elsewhere, regardless its implied
You knew what you did. Removing the sticker. Plus how does a faulty car charger fry the phone? Maybe if it was still wet when you charged it

This.
It was dumb of you to plug it in after it fell in the toilet. You should have turned it off immediately, pried it open from between the screen and body, dried the obviously wet parts, and let it sit in a bowl of rice for days.
Again, the damage would be apparent as soon as they crack open the device in the service center. They'll open it up to see what went wrong, that's a fact.
You will be charged on your bill. I am a RSM for AT&T and we see this all the time. Even though the individual at the service center didn't look for water damage it will be found once the phone is stripped and refurbished. There will be corrosion inside and the internal LDI's will show red.

The terms are in your contract somewhere. And if they find that you took out the damage sticker, and they feel there was an attempt to defraud, they might even terminate your contract and hit you with an ETF.
Damn
Sucks to be you! Damn.
I think my odds are a little better than this.
If the terms are "in my contract somewhere" then why are the reps spoken to over the phone required to get you to agree to the physical/liquid damage disclaimer? Just a courtesy? I think not.
Regarding the "RSM" in here, I've learned that 90% of the time an AT&T employee knows less than my retarded uncle.
Did you come in this thread asking for advice, and then when you didn't like what people had to say, you started raging?
The answer is this: there is a chance they may not charge you. However, when the tech opens the phone to check for water damage (which i'm sure they do on 100% of warranty claims), they will see the water damage, and they *MAY* charge you for the replacement cost of the phone. Period.
The tech in the store won't open one, but speaking as someone who was a tech for both Sprint and Verizon, I'm telling you that if they're told it's not physical damage, when it gets to their repair center, they'll run tests to see what it is. They don't just throw out phones, especially if they're told it's not physical damage. They refurbish them and resell them. They will open it up eventually. I used to do it in store, but they'd also check in a repair center when we sent it out. We literally had a drawer full of envelopes with replacement phones for each customer (like prescriptions in a pharmacy) and another drawer where they'd go out. The store will get charged if they get lazy and say it's not physical and later it turns out to be physically damaged. They'll probably call you back to speak to you.
You came here asking a question. There's your answer. I'm not going to get into morals and ethics, but you should have added insurance and then waited and paid the deductible. It probably would be cheaper than if they find out and charge you.

My device was submerged in salt water (incident at the beach - don't ask what my phone was doing at the beach). I opened up the phone and bleached the water markers, they turned back to white. My phone also had damage to the housing near the charging port. I called and said I was having problems yadda yadda, they gave me the whole thing asking if it was water damaged I said no. Got a replacement device and have been fine.
It has been 5 months no charge etc.

If you don't get in trouble, the store that you screwed most definitely will get charged for the device. Whether or not that store comes after you is up to them.

I fully understand that HTC will discover the LDI. My question was based on them being able to charge me even though they never explained those terms to me.
As far as ethics, I have little concern when it comes to large corporations who only care about their bottom line profit figures. When dealing with them, I too only care about my bottom line.
I'd change my name and move to another country if I was you.

[India] Cost and time of repair?

So the phone fell down and the back is full of spider cracks(front no damage). My phone is still under warranty but I have unlocked the bootloader of my phone. So how much money do they take to replace the back of the phone and can it come under warranty? and within how many days will they give it back to us? Also is it possible to change the colour of the back (from silver to red)? Is there anyone who broke their phone and tried to replace it? Please then tell what had happened.

Sorry I have no idea. Difficult to take a guess. Best would be to call the service centre folks. They'll obviously stress on you bringing in the device but just ask them to give you a rough estimate.

One Plus 6 Dead screen .. No replacement

Its absolutely catastrophic to see that how Oneplus 6 customer care is looting their patrons. I bought oneplus 6 on launch date in India and one fine day while music was playing , screen went blank - Absolutely blank. Those all rest of functions are working fine. It wasn't dropped anywhere - There are no scratch even on the screen and now when i sent to customer care - they found some broken LED inside and putting a blame on me . I asked them that screen doesn't even have a scratch or there are no impression on body anywhere on this which they mentioned that its my problem and shamelessly denied to replace the fault LED and asking me thefty amount to replace the faulty device.
I am so upset to hear on this and I am planning to file a law suit now , because its upsetting to see that even if mobile doesn't have any kind of physical damage proof how can company put a blame of user on internal damage . There are no scratches, no imprint and display just gone !!!
I feel cheated and looted and I am seeking help to escalate this matter further .
You don't have accidental damage protection enabled which came complimentary?
I never had any such issue with service of oneplus.
I had complimentary adp on op3 and intentionally broke my screen after 6 months of usage to see how things work with servify.
Registered request on app and they mailed me an insurance claim form.
Submitted the phone to service centre and got my phone back after 3 days with a new display.
Bill was of Rs 9600 but all I had to pay was Rs 750.
Zero hassles no questions asked.

The issue is, displays CAN 100% crack on impact even if the glass itself doesn't get a single scratch. There is no way to know for sure if you dropped it or not and it is physical damage so you're out of luck... Also, let's be real, you ain't filing any lawsuit lol.

Don't take it the wrong way. I definitely hope that somehow they fix it without charging you. However what I told you is true. Displays can crack underneath the screen even if the glass itself is 100% like new. You might be telling the truth but there is no way to verify it. They have absolutely no way of knowing so yeah... Maybe try reaching out to their social media staff through Twitter or FB and politely ask them if they can help you out. Other than that.. there aren't many options.

Well Oneplus provides ADP with every phone. It started with Oneplus 3.
But you need to register that within 15 days of your mobile purchase.
No matter you buy from Amazon or Oneplus site you do get that ADP with both.
Just visit the oneplus 6 page and see the offer section you will find the ADP one listed there.
Free 12 month Accidental Damage Insurance (powered by Kotak 811)
https://www.amazon.in/OnePlus-Mirror-Black-64GB-memory/dp/B0756Z43QS
Sad that you missed that part and did not register for it.
OP Customer service in the USA is a joke. Luckily, I had a much smaller issue of ordering a new OP6 along with a tgsp directly from OP but I ended up receiving the screen protector all shattered (possibly damaged in the transit, phone was fine). Customer service tried to blame me. I countered their blame by asking how do I know that you did not send me the broken screen protector? They said, " We will never go this." And I said if you don't trust my "never" why should I trust yours? Filed a claim with Paypal and got the refund. I don't think their customer service reps are properly trained or have an actual authority to make decisions. Well, when you buy a top notch phone at a cheaper price point, something got to give and in this case it's customer service.
spending thousands on a lawsuit over a 500 dollar phone?
sure, that makes sense
contact Amazon and ask them to help you.
+1
was thinking the same last night when i read the lawsuit thing. oneplus rep thinking , sure you are
