Rooting HTC U11 - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

So can we now unlock boot loader and root it with chainfire binaries?
which version of superuser.zip do we have to flash with ?

please post questions in the Q&A next time.
Unlock Bootloader
Flash TWRP in fastboot
Flash latest SuperSU.zip you can find on the supersu homepage.
...or flash a prerooted custom rom
you can also root with magisk su btw. That way you can pass safety net etc if that is needed for you.

How do you pass safety net with bootloader unlocked. I want root for ad block but also want Android pay. Possible?

With Magisk, it is.

i always root with chainfire super su
i don't know what is safety net or Magisk.
does magisk defer from super su ?

Magisk lets you use apps that do not work with root, such as mobile banking apps or Android Pay.

So magisk is better than supersu.
so snap chat also works fine with magisk root tool?

S7 edge - systemless root + xposed + android pay

(posted previously in the wrong section)
Anyone using systemless root + xposed and android pay?
I was able to use systemless root with magisk v3 + phh superuser + systemless xposed without any problem however flashfire was not working since I cannot also make chainfire supersSU to work in s7 edge...
( releases after v3 up to v6 are not supporting well samsung - I verified though with the android version G935FXXU1BPH6 which also might be causing issues).
However after updating this version G935FXXU1BPH6 it seems to cause issues with TWRP and only boots to the last (twrp-3.0.2-3-hero2lte.img) and now I cannot go systemless at all because magisk v3 is not working aswell, root simply is not recognized.
SO basically now I'm using stock phone as I wanted to use android pay.... any ideas or anyone with any sucess?
im using v6 without problems. BUT you have to root with cfautoroot and unroot with superSU one time. i think that superSU changes something in boot.img that magisk needs to work ...
after that you have to use phh superuser.
pogo work
Flashfire will not
ok

This works fine as does systemless xposed etc. Did you pick the option to restore stock boot.img when you uninstalled SuperSU?
My banking apps can still detech phh's root. Wondering if the modified boot from SuperSU is the cause. Might just need to wait for Magisk V7 which shouldn't need this workaround.

Install xposed and KoalaCoak you don't need to be unrooted
That is only for ANZ and Westpac internet banking, not Android Pay? Is that correct? Have you got it working for Android Pay?
Cheers.

Read up on Magisk. Systemless Xposed is pointless as you can't bypass safetynet
If we get update and if we update.
Is it require to wipe data after flashing twrp?

unlock bootloader and android pay

Can anybody confirm that with unlock bootloader only (no root yet), that android pay works or not on stock rom?
I'm tempted to at least setup twrp while i'm still on 20a but then if android pay don't work even before root then I might not do it. Thanks.

Android pay won't work if you unlock your bootloader only, but if you unlock your bootloader and install magisk for root it works I would set up TWRP, install magisk for root and also recommend installing the Asgard v4.5 kernel. Then in magisk manager you need to go-to settings and check magisk hide (and don't use built in busy box with magisk hide enabled) and check safety net. If you pass, you can use Android pay.

Has anyone tried this and been able to confirm if it works?
Also, will a T-mobile branded LG G5 that is "carrier" unlocked "only" work with Android pay? If not, do you need to go through the same process of unlocking the boot loader, rooting, and installing magisk? Cheers and thanks in advance for any feedback!

I have a dumb question.

I flashed twrp. Then flashed Magisk and installed Magisk Manager. How do I tell I'm rooted? I have been able to grant a couple apps Superuser privileges.

You're rooted if you have granted privileges. Download a root checker app.
In addition you can always see if you're rooted in the root tab of the Magisk App.

SafetyNet Check in magisk failing

I have a rooted OP6 on 5.1.9. An app I want to use (blind) can somehow detect the fact that I'm rooted and won't let me use the app despite root being hidden from it in Magisk Hide. Upon investigating, I discovered my SafetyNet check in Magisk is failing.
It worked when I originally rooted it a few days ago. I do not have custom recovery or xposed.
Any ideas why safetynet check could be failing or how to go about troubleshooting it?

What version of Magisk did you flash? Flash Magisk 16.4 only. Older versions don't support the OnePlus 6 and flashing newer versions has caused many weird problems. Flash Magisk uninstaller, reboot to TWRP, then flash Magisk 16.4. Once it gets going it will tell you that it can update the Magisk version. Let it update that way. Flashing newer versions causes many weird problems bit letting it update always seems to work.
run the uninstaller magisk .zip then check if safety net passed, might be something unrelated?
im on 5.1.9 with SN passing with TWRP and Magisk

Google "Magisk uninstaller". Flash that file in TWRP. Then reboot to recovery. Then flash Magisk 16.4

So for me, the safety net check passes in the Magisk app but I am not able to access Google tez which tells me that my device is rooted or custom ROM has been changed. Using Magisk v 16.0
16.4... notice the 4
Just fyi I'm on 5.19 and using Magisk 16.0 and safety net passes just fine. Use Google pay daily and play store shows certified.
I hide everything Google related in magisk hide just to be sure

I know. What I meant is safety net passes everywhere except for Google Tez app. Don't know why!
I have attached the screenshots below. And I understand that I'm using Magisk 16.0

Do you have it hidden in Magisk? Google Pay works here if you hide it.
Okay, so I have uninstalled magisk, don't have root, and I still can't use google pay, install netflix, use my bank's app, etc.
No root, no magisk, no xposed, no custom recovery.
How can I figure out why all these apps won't work?

In playstore / settings are you uncertified? After unlocking bootloader I was and couldn't use Google pay. I flashed magisk and it was still uncertified so I cleared playstore app data. Now the phone says certified and Google pay works for me.
I suggest you flash 16.4 magisk and clear app data in playstore to see if you can get them working. Also you will need a different app than magisk manager to check safety net ATM as it will come back with "invalid response"

"this app cant be used on rooted device"
Im new with 12s ultra and don't know if it's rooted
Help meee

If you didn't root it yourself, it probably isn't. Download a root checker from Play Store and see for yourself.
Is not rooted but the bootloader is unlocked maybe thats the problem

Safetynet is just a means of control not a solution.
Some banking apps detect if the bootloader is unlocked even if Safetynet pass.
Found this tutorial if anyone has banking apps not working and have magisk installed: https://xiaomiui.net/how-to-use-zygisk-5640/
