Guy's i've cracked my screen, will huawei replace? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

I purchased it in the UK on the 3rd Feb so about 4 weeks out of the free 3 month accidental replacement warranty, do you think they will replace it out of goodwill considering it's only 4 weeks out ?

I would contact Huawei and ask them. We can do nothing but speculate.
Sent from my MHA-L29 using XDA Labs

I'll give them a ring in the morning.

Yes....they have a VIP protection in your case, in mine, they sent the dhl service to my home, packed the phone and they returned a new phone two weeks later, my mate 9 was grey they returned to me a golden one, so make a call to Huawei service, and have in hand copy of your purchase receipt to pack with the phone to send to Huawei service center.

I'll try them this morning, I'm 4 weeks over the vip protection so I'm hoping they do it out of goodwill considering I've only had the phone 4 months.

Spoke to huawei they won't repair it free of charge, not having any of it, even though I've only had the phone 4 months and it's only 4 weeks over the screen replacement warranty programme, whilst i understand it's out of glass warranty, i don't warrant only 4 weeks as being way over and I'm pissed off tbh, i will not purchase any phone that has a warranty by huawei again ?

Its a goodwill warranty not many brands offer free screen replacement! Hard to **** on Huawei in this case!
How much did they quote for out of warranty replacement?

I agree. Huawei are pretty generous even offering the three months free screen replacement. If you want a phone with a longer free replacement, you will be waiting a very long time.
With your next phone, either get a paid-for insurance or treat it more carefully.

Yes i know they offer it free but that's the worst part knowing I'm only 4 weeks out, i wouldn't have been bothered if they didn't offer this at all that i wouldn't have known, the fact it's only 4 weeks out is poor on huawei's part, they said possibly around £110 all in, I'm not paying that, i just won't buy huawei again, in fact I'm waiting for the one plus 5 launch tomorrow and will be pre ordering, now i have a £600 paperweight and huawei are not interested, i won't be interested in any of their phones in the future.

Sorry, I don't understand, you are out of warranty and you blame huawei for don't repair your phone for free?
It just sound weird...

It's not out of warranty, it's warranty until 2020, it's the screen which is 4 weeks out of warranty.

..... and it is the screen that's damaged

Stop complaining its not their fault you cracked the screen. LCD is about 30-40 usd and repairing phones is so easy.

I'm sure if it happened to you and there's no le way in the warranty whatsoever you would be moaning as well, i didn't ask for your opinion, i asked if it happened to anyone else and what the outcome was. If the shoe was on the other foot and all that.

If it was me the screen would of been replaced already. Would of bought the lcd and replaced it, it is soooooooo easy. $40 is not that bad for an lcd. Not giving you my opinion just saying the truth. No one cares if you think that huawei is being unfair or if you're not thinking of buying another huawei phone. Take from this and fix it yourself!

Out of warranty is out of warranty regardless of length. YOU broke it. 1+ wouldn't do any different. Buy a replacement screen and repair it yourself if you don't want to pay them to do it.

Warranty may be meaningless depending on the country you are in.
I bought my phone retail in Australia, dropped it from shirt pocket, in the original case which was on temporarily instead of usual tough case. This transferred force to edge of glass, massive fractures throughout the screen.
I contacted Huawei to find where I could get it officially repaired, maintaining my two year warranty. I was initially told by Huawei customer service after verifying my IMEI number, that I qualified for free screen replacement, but at 6 months this is not true. Australia is 3months, (New Zealand is 12months) for screen replacement I asked for the repairer details, only one company does official repairs in Australia.
Calling the company... $350 but they are waiting for parts... 3-4 weeks. Thinking it strange they can say that so quickly, I pressed for further details.
Apparently they don't repair Huawei, they swap them over and there was an indeterminate period before they would have stock again. I saw information elsewhere they were sending out mate 9's as replacements for Nexus 6p's with dying batteries, I guess that's where their stock went.
I asked Huawei to authorise a third party repair, as there are numerous places in nearby city, rather than interstate for their sole repairer that couldn't repair/replace it. They refused.
So basically I am wondering why I bought retail for a local warranty, when the company is incapable of maintaining supplies to honour any form of the warranty. Investigating further, anyone getting an Australian repair/warranty completed in less than a month for a Huawei is doing very well indeed.
It would be better to buy grey market, and immediately use any local repairer as required, with the saved money from grey import likely covering the first repair. The saved time... a day or so vs a month or more.
I asked Huawei if they would honor the original statement by customer service, PARTICULARLY in light of they were unable to provide a timely repair too.
Five weeks, and much wasted communications later they declined to oblige with a repair and Huawei support told me there were screens finally supplied to the repairer. The same repairer that told me outright they don't repair Huawei units at all. Someone's telling stories and my trust has plummeted. I've also subsequently investigated the satisfaction rate of their repairer and wouldn't trust them with anything other than a direct swap (which clearly accounts for the few positive reviews they have, others are sent phones without batteries, headphone sockets and other mind boggling faults) So, two months later my screens still broken, time to find repairer or supply of a genuine screen, seems half the screens on fleaBay are aftermarket unknown quality.

4 weeks is like 33% of the whole warranty time. If it was half a week, yeah why not. But not a month after a 3 month warranty...
Huawei is nice to include that warranty, so they're not to blame there.

Yeah it's pretty poor on huawei's part, no form of goodwill gesture whatsoever, i will not purchase anything huwawei again.
Can't tag on this thread for some reason but to whoever said it's 33% of warranty gone, don't be so bloody ridiculous! Of course it's 33% it's only 3 month to start of with, what a stupid statement, it's 4 weeks out not 4 pissing months! Jesus, anyway it's on the scrap heap, waiting for my pixel 2 xl which will be here next week, peace ?

Im in South Africa and im entitled to 2 free screen repairs within 24 months warranty. first 3 months is for main board replacement. Pretty sweet deal this.
Similar to what Samsung offered on the S4 and S5

[Q] Question about HTC Global Warranty

Sorry if this can't be asked here.
My question is, what is the extent of the coverage? Any details at all if possible from anyone who's had their phone physically damaged without warranty from the seller.
My situation is: bought a Touch HD from clove.co.uk a month ago, without insurance, and my dog just recently destroyed it . I called the north american service hotline, and heard my case, and suggested I call the hotline for the country my phone came from. Which I'll have to do tomorrow as theyre only open 8am - 8pm eastern time (im in CA).
So please, anyone with a similar experience, please let me know what can be done. Bad news or good news, doesn't matter.
Oh then the guy said "happy holidays".
Hi. Wow expensive chew toy! I will tell you from experience HTC is the absolute worst company I have ever had to deal with especially for warranty! I swear they will do everything in their power to avoid honoring the warranty so be careful how you answer their questions.
One example: I bought a used HTC S710 off ebay that was only 2 months old but had some keys that were not working right after about a month. Seller even gave me a copy of his original receipt showing it was under warranty which had 9 months left by time I realized the problem. First guy I talked to said it had to of been damage I caused or accused me of getting it wet but I didn't think that was the case. I know I didn't do either & it had been working for awhile & either way you'd think it should be covered under warranty within the 1st year or they'd at least look at it. When I brought up if it would be covered under warranty he said it depends on if it was damage I caused or not. Next guy I talked to asked if I had the original receipt & if I was the original purchaser. I said yes & no. Then I was told it was non transferable & only good for the original purchaser. I asked the seller if he'd mind sending it in for me & he said sure no problem. Well the next HTC guy said the warranty was invalid because they knew the phone had been resold. (It seems they take notes when you call in) They said they'd be happy to look at it but it'd be at least $80 & could be $120 for keypad issue & maybe much more depending on what the problem was, it could even hit $200 which is almost as much as I paid for the phone! I asked about buying parts & they send they don't sell to end users. I do some computer support for a company that sells & repairs cell phones (Sprint/Nextel) & had them contact HTC to find out they couldn't buy parts either. Run around left & right. I ended up buying replacement parts on ebay for like $30 & fixed it myself. It was a pain but it worked & I didn't give them my $. I swore I'd never buy another HTC but here I am with a Touch Dual & a Fuze. lol
I've read similar horror stories on the net so I know I'm not alone. Moral of the story is don't rely on HTC to honor any warranty & if they do you are one lucky SOB. I highly doubt they are going to cover yours if it is obvious it was chewed on (or dropped or run over or sat on or got wet etc) as they'll say it was abused & not a manufacturer's defect & therefore not warranty. (Not sure any company will cover such things, that is what insurance is for. lol) Odds are they'll gladly offer for you to ship it to them & they'll fix it for a fee but you might be better off cutting your losses now & selling it as-is for parts & buying a replacement. Along with some raw hide bones for yer pooch.
Good luck!
Bill
Ah, figured as much.
Yeah I don't put any faith at all into manufacturer warranties, I just wish they had hearts . But really, this blows and the irony is that earlier I was telling myself, after weeks of tweaking, that I'd lose some hair if I have to hard-reset anytime soon.
Looks like that statement was taken to the extreme....

I wanted to buy my device abroad, and lucky me, I called reseller here.
Answer was "Warranty is valid only locally", meaning only in my country for device bought in my country!
And sorry to say, damage caused by a dog is not covered by warranty! At least here...

Adding my bit to the piece. Even when its a genuine fault, they are still hopeless.

Warning about Marquis MP977 warranty

Hello and thanks to all of you geniuses who can answer almost ANY question EVER.
I just want to briefly warn everyone about my recent experience with my Marquis MP977.
First let me say that over the past 8 years or so I have had at least five devices repaired or replaced FOR FREE because their one-year warranty was still active and none had any damage or had been "tampered with" as the phrase goes... ALL of these devices were purchased in the used market and so I did not have ANY proof of purchase from the original Retailers.
Recently I became the owner of a Marquis MP977, purchased used in "like new" condition. Soon enough, the tablet, though fully charged, stopped powering up, and cannot be recognized by my laptop which prevents me from being able to flash or update firmware, or conduct any troubleshooting.
I opened up a case with Marquis, and here is an excerpt from their Customer Support Department:
"Yes, we can honor the warranty without a receipt, as all of our tablets produced are still within the one-year warranty (the only way to void that would be through accidental damage, or tampering)."
Sounds good, right? Wrong. After exchanging several messages online, I finally got their "Senior Support Representative" (Scott) to call me, and he said Marquis will not honor an active, valid warranty unless a proof of purchase from the original retailer is provided.
Maybe this won't matter to many of you, but I just wanted to let people know that Marquis will not honor their warranty without a proof of purchase from the original retailer even if the product is only a few weeks old, is like new, and has not been "tampered with".
Marquis is the first and ONLY company I have had this issue with.
This post is not intended to imply Marquis products are bad, but it is my opinion that with any electronic device, a trustworthy warranty is a primary deciding factor in making a purchase, new or otherwise.
If anyone has an opinion on this I'd be interested in hearing it. Thanks again to all.
Buy a square trade warranty....that's what I did. And it covers everything for 2 years....just got a screen replaced! It was shattered when one of my kids stepped on it. It might work for you.

Have you been cheated by Samsung warranty service? Escalation procedure?

Just for some perspective, I have been in the electronics business for nearly a decade. Working with microelectronics is something I do on a daily basis.
So, imagine my disappointment when I sent a phone to Samsung for warranty service, only to have them return it with reported water damage! This is remarkable, considering the phone has never come into contact with liquid water.
Since my warranty was voided, I took apart my phone and found...no signs of water intrusion! You can find details in a document I sent off to Samsung for review at dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/73830636/noteii.htm
What concerns me is that when I contacted them for assistance, all I received was an apology and request that I contact their voice support, which is notorious for being unhelpful and having no escalation procedure.
Is there a way of escalating my claim through Samsung? I would love to have this matter resolved, but I am concerned with their warranty policy.
I'm willing to bet that there are many others like me who have had phones returned with "water damage" but have actually fallen victim to Samsung trying to save a few bucks because they know that people don't have the technical expertise to dispute their claims.
If you have a story similar to mine, I'd like to hear from you. I have a feeling that this happens fairly often, and we would benefit as consumers if we can gather this information into a common knowledge base and raise the issue to Samsung directly.
My brother got that with his one week old, supposedly waterproof phone.
I'll let the irony of that sink in.
It does seem to happen often, did you check the water mark inside? It can get activated by any kind of everyday moisture really and isn't valid.
Anyway, he stood on his claim (and rightly so) and had a new phone in no time, but has to be said we're Norwegians. The laws here protect the consumer, not the corporation.

Unfortunately, I purchased the phone out-of-cycle through Amazon, so I don't believe I can go to the carrier for this (lesson learned). I'm sure there are folks here at XDA who have had to deal with Samsung customer service. If anyone has any pointers on how I can get through to someone who will listen to my complaint, I feel like I've been beating my head against a wall these past few days trying to get through to someone over there.
Thanks for the info.
I bought a new Samsung printer and after a few months it stopped working. They asked me to courier back free and :laugh:fixed it for me while it was still under warranty.
Maybe phone and printer servicing departments are different.
I have a slight different issue
I have purchased a Galaxy S4 on 10th August, 2013 and I was promised one time screen replacement offer by paying Rs. 500.
I have submitted a request in the customer care (Service Request No. 8461219090) for the replacement of my cracked screen. They verified my phone and promised me a screen replacement at any service centre under the said scheme.
I submitted my phone on 16th January, 2014 to the samsung service centre located at the 1st Floor, Africa House, Topiwala Lane, Grant Road (E), Mumbai - 400007. The representative took Rs. 500 and told me that he will have to verify with the customer care in order to change the screen under the offer. He did not provide me any invoice for the same. The Job Card Number for the request is 4167025423.
I called at the service centre on 23rd of January, 2014 where I had a talk with Mr. Srikant who informed me that my screen has been replaced and I can come and pick the phone from the service centre.
I went today morning at 10 am and they refused to deliver me the phone stating that some formalities are pending from Samsung Global.
This has caused me immense agony as I had to specially travel 40 kms for this. Also, my work has been hampered as I had to spare time from my office timings to carry out this activity. Further, even on my repeated request, I was not provided a formal invoice/receipt for the amount of Rs. 500 paid. The representative wrote a note on the job card stating the same which does not suffice as evidence.
Sorry but I closed this thread. xda is really not the place to work out customer service issues with Samsung.
Thanks!

ZTE WARRENTY bs!

This company is garbage! They don't honor their warrenty. I just went thru 5 wasted weeks with these JOKERS. I have a perfect condition device and it randomly dies (probably a battery issue). I have a warrenty slip with a Canada and US garantee and they keep giving me this "Canada warrenty center can't do anything bs" because I bought it on Amazon.
There just a company who doesn't want to do the warrenty tasks with cheap products they don't back!
I've had this device for 15 months and I'll never buy a ZTE anything ever again. There's so many better products and company's that actually take care of there customers...

Question Crack in screen after little over 30 days of buying

purchased a z flip 3 a little over 30 days ago and noticed a small crack in the middle of the screen where it folds. It's been in a case since purchased new and had never been dropped. Been trying to get help with Samsung support for over 3 hours and still no resolution. I am told that the screen is not covered under the 1 year warranty when this is clearly a defect. I've been a loyal Samsung customer with 18 phones and watches registered with Samsung. This is the absolute worst support I ever experienced and needless to say this will be the last Samsung product I purchase.
If you bought it with a MC or Visa talk with your bank. See if you can return for a full refund.
Maybe the bank charge back will make Samsung more reasonable.
However as you can see with your own eyes the writings on the wall as to the durability of these folding displays. I take the money and run if that's an option.

Thanks, I've been a loyal Samsung customer for over 20 years but that ends today. There customer support is the absolute worst. I cannot even get a call back from their support team. Hopefully this will end in a class action lawsuit.

Really you want to cover your ass-ets, not save the world from Samsung.
Try the charge back first.
File a complaint with the FTC. If they get enough complaints they will take action.

oh dear. managed to see the little crack, especially with white background. better talk to Samsung. You should request for replacement.
I'm not a Sammy fan boy. I've had a couple of samsung phones, off and on over the last 10 years. To to give a little balance, and credit were it's due, I recently sent an S20 back for repair due to a screen issue. I have had the S20 since Feb 2020, and can not fault customer service here in the UK.
I received the phone back, fixed under warranty, in less than 7 days.

I'm willing to bet the UK has laws in place to protect consumers where here in America big business controls everything and our federal politicians are controlled by big business so the consumer always lose in this country.
I'm not a Sammy fan boy. Just to get that straight.
