Hi Folks, kind of what the title says. I'm trying to get a Note 5 set up for my mom to use. Basic Visual Voicemail is supposed to be included with any smartphone plan, but the Play store says the VVM app is "not compatible" with my device. Any idea what's going on here?
I have the regular (non-visual) voicemail app, but that just basically dials *86 for me and turns on the speakerphone. Thanks!
I don't know... I had it then got a replacement phone and loaded MM. I liked visual voicemail.

I have it working now. I got on chat with a Verizon rep who told me she activated it. In the meantime I had also sideloaded the apk of the Verizon Visual Voicemail app, which did not seem to help, but I'm not sure. I was doing this at about the same time as I was on chat with the rep, so I'm not really sure what solved the problem, but it's working now.
And you're on Nougat or MM?

Nougat. Bone stock device, new a couple weeks ago. Insurance replacement for a lost one.
Mine is an insurance replacement also, downgraded back to MM. So, I don't know. I really liked visual voicemail. If I contact Verizon for assistance, they will want to know why I'm on MM.

Their systems already know you're on MM and besides it's really not any of Verizons damn business what rom version you're on.. Just download the visual voice-mail from somewhere and run it.
Visual voicemail from play store won't let me. Says device's not compatible.

You can give this a shot but I'm not sure if it's going to work without being in /system/priv-apps .. Still worth a try though.

Says parsing error. This happens with another app I try to download. I don't have that many apps disabled in package disabler so I'm not sure.

Personally I think it's because it needs to be in /system/priv-apps
Maybe I'll call Verizon see if they can help. If it wasn't for having my own business, visual voicemail wouldn't be a big deal. But once I had it, I liked it and used it quite frequently.

Ok...got visual voicemail working. Talked to a tech on the ask a tech feature. Had to go into application manager and force stop voicemail. Then go into the Verizon folder in my app drawer and click on voicemail. Since I got this replacement 5 and downgraded back to MM it changed settings. So I'm good now.
Thanks for all the replies. Maybe this will help OP.

Hello, I just got my G3 from AT&T on Friday and I've noticed some issues with the Play store showing apps that should be available. The AT&T Visual Voicemail app says that its not compatible, but if I download the apk from XDA, it works fine. Also, I can't locate the Amazon app (Regular Store App, not App Store app). Its almost like the phone is not an AT&T phone. When I put Visual Voicemail in the Play store, it shows TMobiles VV and allows me to download and install it but not AT&T. Any suggestions?
mine had vvm preloaded on it. i'm not seeing amazon app either, maybe a compatibility thing for the screen res?
Just find the att vvm apk online and install it. Working fine on my g3.
Same with the Amazon app apk. Not to be confused with the Amazon app store apk
Sent from my G3!
This is because of our screens. The play store restricts what it shows you based on your screen size/resolution. I believe there's an xposed module that fixes this not sure though

A friend of mine actually found an older apk for Amazon and installed it. It works fine, but Google Play says it incompatible. To me, the mobile Amazon page is very similiar to the app.

I actually prefer the visual voicemail app that came preloaded on my G3. I had nothing but problems with the AT&T app on my M7 and had to switch to YouMail to maintain that functionality. The "stock" app is speedy and clean.

I simply went to www.amazon.com and installed the Amazon App Store apk. Then from the app store I downloaded the Amazon apk.

Is anyone else continuously prompted to enter their password before they can check visual voicemail and download the messages? Mine prompts me quite often, then gives me an 'cannot perform login due to error in connection' message.

I found the google voice widget to be terrible with my last phone. I wouldn't get messages for long periods of time. I haven't tried it with the g3, but the stock visual voicemail works fine.

Title says it all. I have tried to use it with my brothers note 5 but it doesn't seem to work. WiFi calling and voLTE enabled on both phones.
Both phones have to have advanced messaging. It works between my and my wife with our note 5's
anyone else been trying to see if this works or not...
Lol still doesn't work between my brother and i. Both with note 5s. May be it's still "rolling" out to places, ie towers not updated yet
You have to go into contacts and open each contact that has the capability and the video calling and advanced messaging will flip to green. At least that has been my experience to get it to work for my contacts that have the option.

I tried that approach with my note 5, my wife has a galaxy s6. Advanced messaging was working for a bit, but then it stopped.

It only works temporarily for me. It worked great the first few hours I set it up, but after that it just stops working, and Bixby comes up as normal. I've tried disabling and re-enabling the service and clearing the cache, but nothing works short of a fresh re-install.
It's still working on mine and I installed it when I put up this link.

Still works on mine. I remapped it so "Real Calculator" comes up when I hit the button.

New update, December 27th, 2017. Seems harmless so far, supposedly added something new but I don't see it, maybe because I run Nova launcher?
So where is Oreo? Probably not this quarter and never for me since new phone arrives in two days.

Reboot. If that falls, try SIM in a different phone. If SIM good, may be time to factory reset the phone.
How would I know if the Sim is good? I have to activate the phone to be able to do anything with it
