How to use Joying DVR camera on Intel Joying HU? - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

I purchased and installed an Joying DVR camera and connected to my 5.1.1 Intel Joying HU. I get video in the DVR app but I cannot seem to understand how to make it record. It did not come with any instructions. How do I use this device?

Does anyone know?
I am having a difficult time trying to get this to work. I have inserted a 32 GB SD Card and I have three lights on the camera, One is solid green, the next is flashing red, and its always flashing, and the last is yellow... Another weird thing that is happening is, when I access the DVR App, I will get video, but if I select any of the buttons (the one that looks like a Camera) ... they all do nothing except the one on the far right that tells me it can't detect the SD card. Then if I leave the DVR app and come back, I no longer have video...
No other camera app seems to beable to detect the camera... any ideas?

which DVR app works fine?

I run malaysk rom 4.4.4 and have a USB dvr camera installed.
I cannot find a app which works fine and what i want.
It should do the following:
- start on bootup radio
- option to go to automaticly to background and start recording automaticly
- option to choose storage location
Tried a lot of apps only one does this but the app constanlty crashes when i open the settings menu (autoboy BlackBox).
When i run the app on my table (lolipop) it works fine, but on my rk3388 mtcb radio (with latest malaysk rom) it crashes when opening setting menu to configure it.
Anyone have an idea which app can do this
I too would like recommendations for my MX (Witson) unit as currently the stock DVR records to the internal 16gb despite having a 4gb in GPS slot and 32gb in 2nd slot. The app has no option to select storage. Very annoying as finishes all the space up and slows unit down.
Thanks
I run Dailyroads Voyager.

You may have to use the PCV Startup Builder to put an entry in to start it up automatically on boot.

I have it starting automatically, in the background, set storage to the GPS card, and it works fine with every USB cam I have ever tried it with.
I use AutoBoy https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.happyconz.blackbox&hl=en its the only on I've found that lets you flip the camera 180 for when you have it mounted on the windscreen. It starts on boot, monitors the front camera and location via GPS, it also has youtube upload.

Aaaahhh tried on phone like i do before trying on head unit like i always do and can't save to either SD card on the MTCD! Gives me option on phone Galaxy S7. Frustrated as seemed like the best one
Which camera do you use exactly? I hope I will soon receive the new MTCD unit for Peugeot 508 (WITSON) and I am also thinking of purchasing the DVR camera but can't decide what type shall I buy. There is not much information about the available cameras on internet, not many videos on youtube etc., almost no posts here on the forum.
Does someone have the Joying HD SONY IMX322... camera? They say in the description it will only work with JOYING head unit. Is it true? Does it require any special app that is available only in their ROM? According to the pictures it has SD card slot so I think it stores the files on this card, not in the head unit??? So it should start recording after connecting to any USB charger like any other camera?
Or is any other USB or so called webcam better? There are plenty of them like Genius and so on...
Thanks for comments.
Could you help me to identify my software, please?
Hello, everybody,
I bought my Peugeot 508 SW with installed DVR and I can't find out, what software is installed, there? I would like to update maps into my iGO at least. But I can't find any input for SD card. Probably, it is hidden somewhere into its body... But, I am not sure, because of I can't identify it, so far.
Could you help me to identify my software, please?
It is HMI: MX010.1.1, MCU Version "MX801.151211(54)", "MMP.2015.9.16.14.2", whatever does it mean?
Thank you very much.

What is the best DVR app?

I'm looking for an app that can auto record. And also do much more than the default DVR.
DVR
You have answered yourself (and me) in Malaysk PX5 thread
For anyone that used search to get here:
Most 3rd party DVR apps just do not work (are for mobiles and tablets, not for car Units), I have tried many with different results.
The stock app is very basic but it can autorecord every X minutes, just leave it to record and it will stop/start when you stop/start your car. If the Unit reboots, just press record in the DVR app again (or use a tasker).
The stock DVR needs some rework to add these options (see here):

UPD: 19-09-2017
I found out recently that the stock DVR app automatically deletes the oldest recordings on the selected memory card when there is less than 150MB free space left on the card.
A bit crude but it seems to work.
I use the 2nd SD slot on my Unit for the CarRecorder. So it has 32Gb for itself.
It took a while to get near full and for me to see that it actually does delete files
Only thing that is still missing (IMO) in this app is the option to mark files 'Important' and never delete, but if you move out those files to another folder (outside /CarRecorder/) then the app does not touch them.
Additional note: the stock DVR app only seems to supports the DVR USB camera devices that can be ordered together with the units. In other words: does likely not support regular PC USB camera's.
what hardware DVR are you using?
are you using USB DVR?
what is the name of the STOCK DVR app are you referring?

It is built in, you need to enable it in Factory Settings:
Settings > Car > Factory Settings > Password '126'
The first page lists built in apps that can be enabled for your hardware. I think the option is called DVR and you can select USB from the drop-down list.
Hi everyone. I have a slightly different unit to yours in that it doesn't have the DVR option in the factory settings. I bought a small camera which plugs into the Aux video in in the back of the unit (not the reverse cam signal, but same plug). the cam and HU work together when I open the AUX app which came pre-loaded in the HU. However I can't seem to find any way to make it record. All other android apps won't work as they don't look for a cam signal coming from the Aux port.
Does anyone know any apps that would use the AUX signal?
I don’t think there is any app that can do that. As a compromise, you can use one that captures your screen, so you preview the camera and record your screen. Hope it helps!

Reversing camera connection issues

Hello,
I've got MTCE unit (PX3) that I'm trying to install into Toyota truck. I've had another unit in previously and it had a reversing camera that was activated when the reverse was engaged by a dedicated wire in a harness. I've connected my camera to Video-In connector (H-5 on the attached harness). I can see video fine if I run AVID application, so this is working. What is not working is automatic engagement when I put the car in the reverse.
I can't seems to find a dedicated reverse signal. I understand that it may detect reverse through CanBus and I've connected included CanBus decoder to the unit, however it still doesn't work.
Am I missing something and what would the recommended troubleshooting suggestions?
Hi,
You are doing it wrong. You should not connect the video signal to Video IN of the unit. This way - the picture will show only when you launch the AVIN application. You should connect it to the CAMERA or REVERSE labeled plug. What is the G plug for ? Is it for a reverse camera or Car DVR ?
You can power up the camera (+12V and GND) from the white reverse light.
Thanks for the reply, however I can't sadly see any REVERSE or CAMERA labeled connectors on my unit. Plug G has microphone cable and that is it (see attached). Plug H has also a connector labeled DR-V and main connector has something labeled CCD-IN. I've tried plugging my camera to these connectors and sadly none of them seems to show camera feed when the reverse is engaged. Any other ideas on how I can get camera to work?

When you bought it, was it advertised as having this capability? If so, I'd try to get a refund. Mine (and most others that I've seen) that have reverse functionality have a dedicated video in line that's labeled as such.
See K 5 and 6.

Yes, the unit has reversing camera as an option and sadly the seller is less then helpful in resolving this issue. Having looked on the forums I can see that even when the camera is not connected the head unit should switch to black screen when reverse is engaged. In my case it doesn't do that. Does it mean that something is not working with CAN bus decoder? I've looked through factory settings and tried all options available for my car manufacturer and sadly they didn't make any difference.
Is there a way to test CAN bus decoder to see if it is working at all or not?
I have a reversing camera problem albeit a different one, that's been worse today. Sometimes after I finish reversing the camera image stays on the screen, frozen. I don't know if something's wrong with the reverse detection input or the camera video signal. I've had this with other units of the same model (KSP) or at least they were also MTCD PX5. My thought is to play with the resistances to the MCU. For now if I reboot it's back to normal.

Your reverse camera should go to the main power connector 5th pin(CAM-IN) and reverse trigger line should go to 6th pin(CAM-LINE).
Ideally your main power connector should have yellow video in connector which connects ground and 5th pin.

You've just made my day. This was exactly the solution to my issue. The wires were connected to some strange connector, however after I've rewired it to my camera everything started working just fine.
Thanks a lot for your help.

PX5 MTCE_LM dashcam/dvr recording woes

I have an (Auto)Pumpkin PX5 unit running MTCE_LM_V2.81_1 firmware (Oreo) and I can't get the damn thing to record video with any dashcam apps other than the stock "DVR" app that came pre-installed. They all preview just fine but as soon as I hit record the unit freezes then reboots.
This unit is replacing an older similar unit (RK3188) which I used for a couple of years with a camera I have installed in my car - I know the camera works and I know the SD Cards work as I used them with the old unit.
I've tried saving to numerous locations with all the various programs hoping that maybe one of my SD cards had gone bad, I've tried the 3 different USB ports available on the unit, different camera orientations, volume on/off, GPS tracking on/off, I've tried literally everything I can think of - including searching threads the internet for a few hours now.
Anyone else having similar issues? Or better yet, can anyone else confirm they have this working somewhere?
It won't work, I tried every app I could find and the only one that works is the built in one.
Yes. That's why I choosed to buy a stand alone dashcam instead of a simple usb cam. It's a lilttle more expensive (not too much, in my case), but it offers more functionality, like the crucial g-sensor for automatic fixing of recordings in case of a crash, not possible with our head units that lacks a gyroscope... Stand alone dash cam also doesn't slow down the head unit with background recording activity and if you (like I did) buy a wifi model, you can also manage it from the head unit anyway, simply installing the specific manufacturer's app on it! Last thing, I powered my dash cam directly from one of the USB ports on the back of my head unit, so it's swiched on and off automatically by the car and the installation is super clean without any wire in sight. I'm using a YI Mini Dash Cam, by the way.
Just a heads-up that I tried installing Hal9k's ROM 3 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...nt/rom-hal9k-rom-3-mtcd-e-head-units-t3847477) in order to try to resolve the recording issue and, while I do enjoy a few features the custome ROM has brought along with it, it did not resolve the issue. I am guessing that it is a firmware issue of some nature and we're just going to have to wait and see what else might come-about to fix it.
see if this helps

PX5 Peugeot 508 With JBL Amp, no sound on some Apps (CD/DVD player, MyTunerRadio)

Hi,
I just installed few days ago a PX5 MTCE_MX_V2.92_1 in my Peugeot 508 with JBL Sound system.
It went all almost ok (except the seller didn't understand I had to activate "With Amplifier" in the Factory settings, or I had absolutely no sound).
I have one problem : There is sound when I put radio, Ad2p music, usb stick music, phone call... but absolutely no sound when I try to read a CD or a DVD with the DVD app that came installed on the system.
I tried the MyTunerRadio app, and also no sound.
Do the stock apps (radio, bluetooth, usb stick) have something special to output audio differently, or am I missing something?
Does anyone also know any other app on the play store that can read the CD/DVD from inside the Unit?
Thanks
Hi again,
I received a new Canbus today from the seller, I don't understand why... and since we have trouble communicating, I'm asking you guys.
The one I got with the head unit, with for Peugeot 407 (I have a 508), the Android is starting, and all is working "more or less" ok.
The one I received today has two plugs, on each side of the decoder. And when I plug one side, well, Android is not turning on... which seems logical to me.
Any idea? do I need a new cable to connect the new decoder?
Thanks
Any Idea on this? I got a carplay dongle but also no sound...
do u solve it? i have 508 with JBL also..installed android device..no sound at all
Same here
Hi, same for me on my 508 with JBL amplifier.
Bluetooth Ad2p audio, radio and USB music works nice.
But no audio from CD, DVD, and the worse: from Bluetooth calls.
I am checking with the reseller and if can't help I'll ask for a refund. Or I hope you guys will get luckier and get an answer
Edit: I am under MTCE_MX_V2.91.
A weird thing is that if i want sound from basic apps, I first need to play music from USB, pause it, then I can hear the sound from the other app suddenly (but still not from CD, DVD, YouTube app). As the original poster wrote, there must be something with the way some apps output sound. I really hope it's easy to fix.
Solution
Guys, I have the solution!
Hopefully, this works for you too.
After a week of fighting about that with my seller (Autostereo), he finally provided me with a solution (I had opened dispute with agreed half refund so it motivated him I believe, to help me more...).
So, I updated my PX5 (manufacturer: MX / Witson - octacore, 4gb RAM) to a very last version "mx4_PX5_8.0(20181122)". The seller also sent me an update for the MCU but I didn't deploy it because it was working already with the PX5 upgrade. I give you here both files. Again, it was enough for me to just do the PX5 update; it all started to work suddenly (among other improvements), so I am more than satisfied.
At the time I am writing this post, there are 6 days left for the files: we.tl/t-A8ysf9ggAp EDIT: changed the link on Dec. 27, 2018
If needed, I can later upload them somewhere else (GDrive or something).
Can you send to me. I have the same problem. I would be very gratefull for your help.
@Perle123 check on the link I provided
?.Did you unzip them after download, or put them straight on to usb. How did you install.

I could answer you "search on the forum" because that's what I had to do the first time, I had no clue how to update But it's easy:
1. Format a USB key to FAT32 file system (quick format is enough).
2. Unpack the mx4_PX5_8.0(20181122).zip
3. From the mx4_PX5_8.0(20181122).zip, copy the file update.zip (do not unpack it!) to the USB key.
4. Plug the USB key into your car unit, Android should recognize it straight and allow you to upgrade.
5. Click OK to upgrade, it will do the job (5 minutes for me), restart with updated PX5 (and sound working in all applications, DVD, CD, YouTube, DI.FM, etc.).
Note 1 : it asked me if I wanted to wipe data or not; I chose no.
Note 2: I recommend you do it with engine running in case the upgrade takes longer, to avoid safe consumption energy cut during the upgrade.
Note 3: I didn't have to reconfigure anything, not even CANBUS. I let it to amplifier mode "with amplifier".
Additional note for @ifoul: I have the same CANBUS as you exactly. I mean the original one, not the one the seller sent you again. And I think you should remain with the original one, it is configured for JBL. It is originally for Peugeot 408 (not 407 as you wrote), a model mostly sold only in China and that has similar commands as the 508; that's why it works with the 508.
Hope this helps!
Hi All,
Sorry for the long delay, turns out I didn't get thread notifications on my email.. so I forgot a bit about this thread.
It's funny because I also received two days ago (after long battling with seller DADAgps ? ) a new DMCU 3.00 MX and firmware from 20181122, and It's working correctly since two days.
I first did the DMCU upgrade, was not working, and then firmware upgrade ,and working.
So I can confirm it's definitely the Firmware.
the CarPlay dongle is finally useful (main reason why I bought the Android Head Unit).
If needed I can host the files online, just ask.
@slovinco, Yes, I stayed with the original Canbus, the other doesn't even start the android.
Also I have another Canbus on the way, they were sending it last week, before knowing about the new firmware.

Perfect then Probably the manufacturer sent a FW upgrade to all sellers, seeing that a few os us have problems. Still, we must not be a lot with JBL and Android unit
Now finally we can fully enjoy this delicious unit.
Yes, not that many, for sure ?
From which country are you?
Now I need to install the camera that I received... that will be fun to put all the cables from the trunk to the Android!

According to the photo of your radio app and the radio station names, maybe from the same country as you
I also installed rear camera for backup. It was not funny at all, especially taking down the plastic parts and putting them back. My hands still hurt. And also the wireless version is not very stable so I ordered cables to make it better. That means I'll have again to take down the plastic parts.
FYI, I bought this: aliexpress.com/item/For-Peugeot-301-308-408-508-2013-2014-Citroen-C5-C4-Car-CCD-Night-Vision-4LED/32598855986.html
But that's also another topic When I finish all this (I will also install headrest monitors), I will publish some articles on some Peugeot blog, because I quite enjoy doing this all!
Well, let's keep in English, in case it's useful for other people.
I ordered a similar one from amazon : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B079NX178V/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
because I found that the one I got for free from the aliexpress seller was hanging a bit too low. ( https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Wat...ml?spm=2114.10010108.1000023.9.6681277dXMa7AN )
Before you make your blog posts, do you maybe have some photos you took during install, to see how to remove the parts?
Small question regarding the camera.
Which cables did you take for the alimentation?
That was hard unboxing the trunk, but good thing I found all those PDFs from Peugeot https://www.forum-peugeot.com/Forum/threads/schema-pour-démontage-garniture-hayon-sw.34967/
