What is the best DVR app? - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

I'm looking for an app that can auto record. And also do much more than the default DVR.

DVR
You have answered yourself (and me) in Malaysk PX5 thread
For anyone that used search to get here:
Most 3rd party DVR apps just do not work (are for mobiles and tablets, not for car Units), I have tried many with different results.
The stock app is very basic but it can autorecord every X minutes, just leave it to record and it will stop/start when you stop/start your car. If the Unit reboots, just press record in the DVR app again (or use a tasker).
The stock DVR needs some rework to add these options (see here):

UPD: 19-09-2017
I found out recently that the stock DVR app automatically deletes the oldest recordings on the selected memory card when there is less than 150MB free space left on the card.
A bit crude but it seems to work.
I use the 2nd SD slot on my Unit for the CarRecorder. So it has 32Gb for itself.
It took a while to get near full and for me to see that it actually does delete files
Only thing that is still missing (IMO) in this app is the option to mark files 'Important' and never delete, but if you move out those files to another folder (outside /CarRecorder/) then the app does not touch them.
Additional note: the stock DVR app only seems to supports the DVR USB camera devices that can be ordered together with the units. In other words: does likely not support regular PC USB camera's.

what hardware DVR are you using?
are you using USB DVR?
what is the name of the STOCK DVR app are you referring?
thank you

Maybe you can try this one.

It is built in, you need to enable it in Factory Settings:
Settings > Car > Factory Settings > Password '126'
The first page lists built in apps that can be enabled for your hardware. I think the option is called DVR and you can select USB from the drop-down list.

Hi everyone. I have a slightly different unit to yours in that it doesn't have the DVR option in the factory settings. I bought a small camera which plugs into the Aux video in in the back of the unit (not the reverse cam signal, but same plug). the cam and HU work together when I open the AUX app which came pre-loaded in the HU. However I can't seem to find any way to make it record. All other android apps won't work as they don't look for a cam signal coming from the Aux port.
Does anyone know any apps that would use the AUX signal?

I don’t think there is any app that can do that. As a compromise, you can use one that captures your screen, so you preview the camera and record your screen. Hope it helps!

[Q] Camera remote control?

Hello, any tips on a remote control for the camera?
I have seen the selfie sticks, and wonder if there is a proven "remote only" for the native camera app?
Kind regards, Vozie
Haven't seen anything about the stock camera app, but I do know that some 3rd party apps like A Better Camera allow to use the talk button on a headset to operate shutter.

If you have another android phone as well, try the app named sharelens.
You place the one phone for taking the shot on eg a tripod , and use the other phone to take the pic via wifi remotely. You can even focus and see live what you are taking and at quite a distance. As long as you are in wifi range. Quality depends on the camera taking the picture and it is wirelessly transferred and recorded on the phone used as remote. I have taken some shots which would have been impossible with just one phone. Try it if it was what you meant [emoji13] [emoji2]
I have got this. Pair it via BT and you are good to go. Works with any BT device, some apps have problems with remotes and do weird stuff. Default app, however, works like a charm. The ios button works like zoom in button.
As for buy link, I can't help
Got mine last summer in China. EBay is your best bet.

which DVR app works fine?

I run malaysk rom 4.4.4 and have a USB dvr camera installed.
I cannot find a app which works fine and what i want.
It should do the following:
- start on bootup radio
- option to go to automaticly to background and start recording automaticly
- option to choose storage location
Tried a lot of apps only one does this but the app constanlty crashes when i open the settings menu (autoboy BlackBox).
When i run the app on my table (lolipop) it works fine, but on my rk3388 mtcb radio (with latest malaysk rom) it crashes when opening setting menu to configure it.
Anyone have an idea which app can do this
I too would like recommendations for my MX (Witson) unit as currently the stock DVR records to the internal 16gb despite having a 4gb in GPS slot and 32gb in 2nd slot. The app has no option to select storage. Very annoying as finishes all the space up and slows unit down.
Thanks
I run Dailyroads Voyager.

You may have to use the PCV Startup Builder to put an entry in to start it up automatically on boot.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pcv.installrecovery.builder&hl=en
I have it starting automatically, in the background, set storage to the GPS card, and it works fine with every USB cam I have ever tried it with.
I use AutoBoy https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.happyconz.blackbox&hl=en its the only on I've found that lets you flip the camera 180 for when you have it mounted on the windscreen. It starts on boot, monitors the front camera and location via GPS, it also has youtube upload.

Aaaahhh tried on phone like i do before trying on head unit like i always do and can't save to either SD card on the MTCD! Gives me option on phone Galaxy S7. Frustrated as seemed like the best one
Which camera do you use exactly? I hope I will soon receive the new MTCD unit for Peugeot 508 (WITSON) and I am also thinking of purchasing the DVR camera but can't decide what type shall I buy. There is not much information about the available cameras on internet, not many videos on youtube etc., almost no posts here on the forum.
Does someone have the Joying HD SONY IMX322... camera? They say in the description it will only work with JOYING head unit. Is it true? Does it require any special app that is available only in their ROM? According to the pictures it has SD card slot so I think it stores the files on this card, not in the head unit??? So it should start recording after connecting to any USB charger like any other camera?
Or is any other USB or so called webcam better? There are plenty of them like Genius and so on...
Thanks for comments.
Could you help me to identify my software, please?
Hello, everybody,
I bought my Peugeot 508 SW with installed DVR and I can't find out, what software is installed, there? I would like to update maps into my iGO at least. But I can't find any input for SD card. Probably, it is hidden somewhere into its body... But, I am not sure, because of I can't identify it, so far.
Could you help me to identify my software, please?
It is HMI: MX010.1.1, MCU Version "MX801.151211(54)", "MMP.2015.9.16.14.2", whatever does it mean?
Thank you very much.

Does anyone know?
I am having a difficult time trying to get this to work. I have inserted a 32 GB SD Card and I have three lights on the camera, One is solid green, the next is flashing red, and its always flashing, and the last is yellow... Another weird thing that is happening is, when I access the DVR App, I will get video, but if I select any of the buttons (the one that looks like a Camera) ... they all do nothing except the one on the far right that tells me it can't detect the SD card. Then if I leave the DVR app and come back, I no longer have video...
No other camera app seems to beable to detect the camera... any ideas?

external microphone issues

PLEASE READ THE DETAILS FOR ALL OF THIS QUESTION BEFORE GIVING THE FIRST QUICK ANSWER,
i have recently purchased the U11 and i was wondering about the use of an external microphone. I have a sony ecm 907 stereo condenser microphone with internal battery. I am using the camera / video app that came with the phone .
When i plugged it in using the 3.5mm / usb adapter, a dialog box popped up to inform me that the microphone was being installed .... in all cases the microphone is connected prior to launching the camera app.
i have also tried an electret unpowered lavalier mic but it treats this as a headphone
But the video app continues to only use the onboard microphones. I have tried front and rear cameras, 3d audio and hi-res audio in all possible combinations.
Is this simply a limitation of the camera software? or..
Do i need to use a particular type of microphone?
Do i need to install a 3rd party app such as Filmic Pro?
Do i need to change any other settings?
Do i need to install a patch/ app to get round this issue?
The phone won't have drivers to use the hardware and isn't capable of installing them as root is protected.
You will need an app to use it or there is even the chance you might have to root or even accept that it may not work at all..

[Dasaita] DVR Connector Pin-Out

I still trying to make working Factory setting "Switch to front camera for XX seconds after reverse gear" (translated from my language) on my head unit with a simple RCA/CCTV camera.
Now i have hooked (hoping in fast working solution) the camera video out to AV-IN HU connector and after reverse gear for 5 seconds (thats my amount fo time selected on factory settings) i get the classical no video exclamation mark, so my attempt is wrong.
Thinking how solve the situation the other iadea i had is hookin the camera video-out to the reserved DVR 6 pin connector of my HU, but i dont know how it work and what are the pin-outs.
I think, hoping for sure, 2 of them are Cam +12V and GND, 2 are Video (+) and Video (-) and the other 2 i presume are ACC 12V+ and GND or Data (+) and Data (-).
Someone with DVR Cam on HU can confirm and can draw a little schematic with the pin-out and can confirm in if idea of using the factory settings "Switch to front camera for XX seconds after reverse gear" can work right?
Thanks in advance!
You should not connect to video out, that's for an additional screen. You need to have something like camera in

The problem is that Dasaita HU doesnt have a dedicated front camera input, so im trying to circumvent this
See my post in this thread;

Not the pinout diagram you asked for but a simple circuit you can build for cheap to get what you want by plugging in both your front and rear cameras into your one reverse camera input.

Thanks for your suggestion, a good idea! But there is a problem: im totally noob on realizing circuits! i have some skills in soldering and no more.
Do you want to draw a ready to solder circuit for me? are you using standard or smd components? What type of relay you have used?
EDIT:
Today i received a message from Dasaita support pointing me to a video box auto-switcher, i think it work in similar mode of your. What you think about that?

Hi, I also own a Dasaita unit, and want to integrate a front view camera.
From some posts in this thread that was previously mentioned here (Front parking camera mod), it seems that some MTCD units (KDL?) have indeed pins for the front camera available at the back of the headunit, even if the wire harness don't have the corresponding cables for them.
After migrating to Android Pie some days ago, I activated the system menu to show the front camera and selected CVBS for the DVR, all this with a camera connected to the Aux In yellow input (I know, this will not work, it was just a test). But to my surprise, now I don't see the DVR App anymore (but I see now another app called F-cam). The interesting thing is that through this app, I'm now able to see my (stock) reverse camera whenever I want (even when I'm not in reverse). I thought that this camera was only powered on while in reverse (but apparently is not). As expected, when I switch to the front cam icon in the app, nothing is shown (only the warning icon), since this app expects the front camera to be connected to a specific video input not present in my harness.
Now to my question: Did somebody find out if the Dasaita PX5 Android units have this two pins (F-cam, 12V for F-cam) available in the back connectors (even if not available in the wire harness)?
(Soldering the proposed mods is definitely beyond my capacity - neither the internal nor external one; thanks anyway)
Hi, I'm looking for pinouts of RCA out of Dasaita units.
Can someone send a picture here?
Thanks
