I just got this phone a month.
I rooted it.
And I receive a OTA update in recent days.
I havent try it.
Should I do it? I just want to make sure what this update is.
The update is basically a bug fix, and its supposed to extend your battery life. I have noticed my battery lasts a lot longer with the update. It won't ruin anything, you will most likely have to re-root your phone though

thats great to hear that.
thanks
Yeah you'll have to re-root your phone but Z4 still works...I had to re-root mine as well after the OTA...I haven't noticed a difference in battery life tho

Can you get the OTA update if you are not using the phone with Verizon? I unlocked it and I am using another carrier now.
THANK YOU

Yes, you can. However it is being reported phone works better without this update on certain GSM networks at least.

Hi leobg! How do you to get this update? You get into some Verizon website? I didnt find any? did you have a bad expirience with Rogers with this update?
Thank you
Go to settings/about phone and tap the top item - system updates. Phone will connect to Motorola update server and will download the update.
Before you do so, make sure you unfreeze all frozen (renames/etc) stock apps, or update will fail to install. You don't have to unroot if your phone is rooted. Update installs fine on rooted phone (tested myself). If phone complains there are no new updates, you can download the update and install it manually from stock recovery (I haven't tried this way since automatic update worked for me, but since the update is signed official update from Motorola it should be able to be installed this way)
Update check does not always work. Sometimes you will see "update check not available at this time" don't get discouraged, just try again later. In theory it should work on both wifi and cellular data, so try both ways.
For me the newer firmware isn't working well. Every few hours the phone loses connectivity without any warning or sign. Phone says I have signal and data connection, but neither i can make calls nor i can receive, same with text messages or internet access. The only way to get it out of this state is to reboot it. I couldn't figure out anything definitive why is this happening, but I get the feeling the dreaded US operator ban protection kicks in. This is not confirmed. Next time i am close to the border i will experiment a bit more with this.
Old firmware seems to work fine. Ever since i am back to initial firmware i have not experienced this bug) i got uptime (without reboot I mean) as long as 10 days (240 hours) without losing connection (including trip to the Caribbean, roaming there both 2g and 3g on all available operators, of course airplane mode while in the air.

I currently have the same issue of loosing connection every now and then but with the old firmware. I am currently in Uruguay and it happens very often, specially when I leave it alone for a few hours. I then grab the phone and it lost the signal. And same, to get the signal I have to either make it check for available networks, or toggle the airplane mode on and off again until it gets the connection. Hummm, maybe it is the radio... In WM it was always advised to flash the radio and get the one that was better for your country and carrier. Is there a way in Android to just flash the radio and not the entire rom?
There is certainly way to flash the radio, radio firmware (also called baseband software) is part of the SBF. The bad thing is there is no other radio firmware than the one from Verizon, neither will be as this phone is Verizon only. Maybe Motorola will update the baseband in future again (it was updated in 2.4.330 if I am not mistaken) to make it better handle foreign networks. Only time will tell.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL
Humm, i wonder if I can install the radio from the Milestone 2 from Argentina alltough it comes with only 2 frequencies: 850 and 1900, so I would be loosing the 2100 one...
I doubt. Baseband chipset is different on the two phones.
No, you can't install the radio from a Milestone to a D2G because they have different chipsets. You will almost certainly brick the phone if you try.
The radio NVM from a global device is almost twice the size of either a CDMA only or GSM only radio NVM because it contains all the settings and parameters for both radios.
Yes, most likely it is not possible. I wonder why is this thing about loosing signal happening outside the US. Maybe it is because the real bands we use abroad are not exactly the nominal ones like 850 or 1900 and in reality it could be like 1901 or the like and then the Verizon radio has that exact number that does not match the one used by a different carrier on a different country...

Is there a way to stop the update from downloading?
I did a check in the phone settings out of curiousity. and it asked to download the OTA, but I cancelled it.
Now it keeps reminding me now and again. A while ago, it downloaded itself LOL was around 20% then I quickly switch off the phone.
You can disable the following apk's in/ system/app to revent OTA:
BlurUpdater_VZW.apk
Fota.apk
Once this is done reboot the phone and enter stock recovery and clear cache.

I am in Hong Kong and I am using the latest firmware. I had the lost signal once and I had to reboot to solve the problem. Will the previous rom solve this problem? Where can I download the rom?

Here is link to the official TBH post
Hi everyone - I have a Verizon S3 that I use without any trouble here in the UK. My network (Three Mobile) will soon be turning on their 4G system, and everyone with a 4G device will be able to use it - including me. The only problem is that in order to use 4G you need an OTA update - whether this update is an actual firmware update or just changes to the APN settings, Three don't seem to want to tell me (or more likely, the Three reps don't know).
This OTA update is only going to be sent to Three branded phones and unbranded phones - meaning my Verizon S3 isn't going to get 4G enabled if I leave it as it is.
What I'm wondering, is if there's a way to load the Verizon S3 4G LTE with a standard Samsung ROM that's totally unbranded. That way I should be able to get Three's update and use 4G.
I'm new to this, and I've never flashed a phone before - all Google seems to bring up is Cyanogenmod, but I think that's a bit more custom than I want - I'm looking for something totally vanilla minus the Verizon junk. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? And has anyone used a flashed Verizon S3 in Europe?
Thanks a bunch,
Noam
Would CleanRom 7 work for this? scottsroms .com/downloads.php?do=file&id=415
I see that it's based on "the latest Verizon released VRBMF1 Jellybean 4.1.2 Base and is De-Odex" - does this mean it will still appear to be a Verizon branded phone? Any ideas?
Thanks again.
Is it really at&t I have to blame for no marshmallow on my tablet?
I have grown so irritated with the lag behind updates with every single phone I have owned in the past 8 years or so.
But this tablet was bought unlocked! Why does at&t have a say in when I get the update? They have 0 bloatware to inject onto this thing.
And why now? Every other update was prompt along with the WiFi version.
I know y'all probably have no idea what the hold up is I just needed to vent. Peace!

Yeah... I'm just as frustrated as you mate.
No MM on the LTE version because AT&T hey.. FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see there is a ROW (rest of world) LTE rom out. Is there a way we can just flash that (without being routed?)
This may sound like a silly question, but did you buy it from At&T directly? did you buy it used? is it the first y01 battery? The US LTE rolled out nearly two weeks ago and I'm in Canada! Currently using the US LTE b01 version received from Nvidia.
I manually flashed the ROW LTE version at first with no problems at all, then a week or so after I got the US LTE marshmallow update. Flashed it like normal and all is well.

I bought the first one from amazon and then it was recalled and this is the replacement that I have now. It wasn't used as far as I know. And I don't buy anything but service from at&t anymore.
Still everytime I check for an update it says your tablet is up to date. Still running lollipop.

I bought the LTE version from Amazon too, using it in Australia on Vodafone 4G network. Came with AT&T sim but never used it. Mine was replaced by Nvidia in the battery recall saga.
Can you flash the ROW LTE rom through the stock recovery?? Any help much appreciated

Still nothing. Android N will be here before this tablet gets M at this rate...

I'm still waiting for mine as well. Got it on Amazon and it was replaced in the recall.
As an alternative to waiting, you could check the VulKan Preview thread where there is a link to the US LTE for that (which is actually a later build than the 4.0.1 A6.0 as it is A6.0.1).

I have seen that. Seems interesting. Might check it out at some point.
I don't mind waiting. I just wish they laid out a timetable like some of these other oem's. At least HTC and Samsung both have a (ever changing)roadmap that you can check the status of your devices update.

Wait is that the Vulcan update that you are referring to or some other?
Nah no Vulkan update, since I had installed the ROW LTE version to get it asap, a few weeks later I got the US LTE update in the Nvidia Shield Update page, I updated it and now back on US LTE version. You can flash the ROW on top of the US version, no issues, may have some LTE bands missing but with my tests in Canada, I had a pretty decent speed of 8mbit/5mbit over LTE.

How did you manage to flash the RoW rom? I don't see any flashable zips available.
I have not been able to get an MM update for my US LTE either. I'm using an RMA replacement for the one they shipped me for the battery recall.

That's because the MM update is being held up by AT&T for the US LTE model.
To work around this, one can flash the RoW image instead. The tablet will from now on receive timely OTA updates and AFAIK, there are no repercussions as the US LTE modem firmware files are included with the RoW image. Basically you now have an AT&T crapware-free tablet!

I have a stock unrooted tablet. I was hoping MM and a factory reset would fix the couple things I get irritated with without rooting. But I guess if that's what I need to do...

How exactly do you flash this RoW LTE MM Image? The thread was a little confusing.
You can just download the files from nvidia's site and do it fastboot flash everything. They provide clear instructions with the file. There was a RoW LTE flashable zip but the creator removed it. I used it and for some reason or another I couldn't get it to work w/ external SD card. So while the LTE worked, not being able to write on the external SD was a no go for me. Just using RR for now until they finally release the US LTE version and hopefully with external SD write issue fixed. Already tried all kinds of xposed modules but none worked.
I have a GS8+ from AT&T, and I am running the official operating system with all updates including December security patch. I am wanting to load the official oreo beta 2 software that I found on the internet, and I want to know a few things beforehand. I am a previous iphone user, and I'm new to the android modification area. I seen that the Sprint and Verizon GS8+ have beta 3, Is the beta 3 software for AT&T available on the internet anywhere? What is the process for going back to official software? Can I download the official rom from somewhere? If not is there a way to extract the official rom from the phone beforehand? I am wanting to do this because this phone runs terrible for a brand new phone, lock screen hangups, stock apps crashing constantly, and in my opinion my 3 year old iphone 6+ was more stable than this phone in every way but the battery. I want to stick with official software because I live in a bad service area for AT&T and I rely on VOLTE where available, and wifi calling where I don't have VOLTE. Any help is appreciated. If i violated any rules please let me know, I am new here.
Thank you
Wipe your phone and start over, you shouldn't be having those issues with your phone unless you installed some app that is causing them.

Yeah...you know, you can install T-Mobile firmware over the AT&T device. Also, that nav bar issue is singular, meaning just you. so what ever it is you're doing, doesn't happen to anyone else. Another thing, if you live somewhere where a USA carrier doesn't provide service, DO NOT buy that phone. Plain and simple, only buy what your service provider or country offers. If you don't you lose out on bands, sometimes LTE entirely, Slow LTE because of the advanced technology only being able to be used on the carrier for the device, and as with the case of AT&T, software updates. The only reason you people are able to even have OTA zips AT ALL is because AT&T has **** security with their OTA server. The only other method to get updates would be Odin firmware, which AT&T doesn't RELEASE, it has to be leaked by companies with a GSPN account, which BTW cost ALOT of money, so the firmware itself is a solid $20 for those who do buy it to share to people here on XDA. And just so everyone knows, this method of pulling OTAs for you people will be patched because Samsung has had enough of their test builds getting leaked by some peachy ***** like me that pull their OTAs from AT&T. However long it takes, who knows, but it's gonna happen. By the way, most of this isn't directed just at you so you understand that, this is to the public in general. Sorry guys but it's true.

I just got the new update from ATT, I have to borrow my friend ATT sim like usual. But the new version still has not fixed yet.
I also understand what did you say for the nav bar issues above, but mine is different, not the same results on Google search.
For example:
-Youtube or Google maps is auto minimize after 2 minutes or more on screen.
-Games are automatically back to "waiting screen" in any game.
-All require fingerprints applications automatically back to fingerprint require screen while I was using it.
So I know the issue is the "back" button, I did try to change its location, hide the nav bar, but the same issues. So I know that it does not come from the physical, it is the software.
I did buy an S6 Active 3 years ago so I know the update issues that I have to face with, but Tmobile released their S8 Active too late and I did not know that.

This firmware is nougat, so whatever problem you're having with the nav bar if it wasn't there in previous updates, this should fix it. Then you can OTA whenever and see if it's just Oreo you don't like, which is fine because you can stay on nougat. And also root I believe.
Oh wait, are you saying you want the BRD4 or whatever update?
