Marshmallow on US LTE? - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it really at&t I have to blame for no marshmallow on my tablet?
I have grown so irritated with the lag behind updates with every single phone I have owned in the past 8 years or so.
But this tablet was bought unlocked! Why does at&t have a say in when I get the update? They have 0 bloatware to inject onto this thing.
And why now? Every other update was prompt along with the WiFi version.
I know y'all probably have no idea what the hold up is I just needed to vent. Peace!

Yeah... I'm just as frustrated as you mate.
No MM on the LTE version because AT&T hey.. FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I see there is a ROW (rest of world) LTE rom out. Is there a way we can just flash that (without being routed?)

This may sound like a silly question, but did you buy it from At&T directly? did you buy it used? is it the first y01 battery? The US LTE rolled out nearly two weeks ago and I'm in Canada! Currently using the US LTE b01 version received from Nvidia.
I manually flashed the ROW LTE version at first with no problems at all, then a week or so after I got the US LTE marshmallow update. Flashed it like normal and all is well.

I bought the first one from amazon and then it was recalled and this is the replacement that I have now. It wasn't used as far as I know. And I don't buy anything but service from at&t anymore.
Still everytime I check for an update it says your tablet is up to date. Still running lollipop.

Same story here. Not using ATT sim though, I use a vmno Consumer Cellular instead. No update on replacement tablet here.

I bought the LTE version from Amazon too, using it in Australia on Vodafone 4G network. Came with AT&T sim but never used it. Mine was replaced by Nvidia in the battery recall saga.
Can you flash the ROW LTE rom through the stock recovery?? Any help much appreciated

Does anyone have the stock US LTE marshmellow OTA and can post it or a link to it here?

Still nothing. Android N will be here before this tablet gets M at this rate...

I'm still waiting for mine as well. Got it on Amazon and it was replaced in the recall.

As an alternative to waiting, you could check the VulKan Preview thread where there is a link to the US LTE for that (which is actually a later build than the 4.0.1 A6.0 as it is A6.0.1).

I have seen that. Seems interesting. Might check it out at some point.
I don't mind waiting. I just wish they laid out a timetable like some of these other oem's. At least HTC and Samsung both have a (ever changing)roadmap that you can check the status of your devices update.

Wait is that the Vulcan update that you are referring to or some other?

Nah no Vulkan update, since I had installed the ROW LTE version to get it asap, a few weeks later I got the US LTE update in the Nvidia Shield Update page, I updated it and now back on US LTE version. You can flash the ROW on top of the US version, no issues, may have some LTE bands missing but with my tests in Canada, I had a pretty decent speed of 8mbit/5mbit over LTE.

How did you manage to flash the RoW rom? I don't see any flashable zips available.

I have not been able to get an MM update for my US LTE either. I'm using an RMA replacement for the one they shipped me for the battery recall.

That's because the MM update is being held up by AT&T for the US LTE model.
To work around this, one can flash the RoW image instead. The tablet will from now on receive timely OTA updates and AFAIK, there are no repercussions as the US LTE modem firmware files are included with the RoW image. Basically you now have an AT&T crapware-free tablet!

I have a stock unrooted tablet. I was hoping MM and a factory reset would fix the couple things I get irritated with without rooting. But I guess if that's what I need to do...

How exactly do you flash this RoW LTE MM Image? The thread was a little confusing.

You can just download the files from nvidia's site and do it fastboot flash everything. They provide clear instructions with the file. There was a RoW LTE flashable zip but the creator removed it. I used it and for some reason or another I couldn't get it to work w/ external SD card. So while the LTE worked, not being able to write on the external SD was a no go for me. Just using RR for now until they finally release the US LTE version and hopefully with external SD write issue fixed. Already tried all kinds of xposed modules but none worked.

Wifi versions get updates faster?

Going to be buy the Notepro in a few days and debating on getting the wifi or unlocked int. Lte version. Do wifi versions get updates faster? I know that 4g versions that are locked almost never get updates. Can the same be said for unlocked 4g versions?
I had unlocked 4g version of the note 2014 10.1and the thing never got an update.
Any LTE version is going to require work by the respective carriers once receiving the update from Samsung so yes, the WiFi version should get updates far quicker and more regurally. While Samsung still makes their changes to stock Google code, it is one step closer to stock than getting through a carrier.

But what if I didnt get it from a carrier? I can get the LTE, unbranded version.
In that case wouldnt it be like the wifi, not affected by what carriers do?

Official 6.0.1 ota and now can not sms on original nst

So I grabbed the ota, all seemed good enough but I am unable to get SMS to work through hangouts or messaging apps. Says SMS is disabled. I've poked around in the various app permissions and uninstalled reinstalled etc......att all access stock app is and has been disabled since kk...all grayed out can not be enabled either. I use a mvno as a carrier but it was great on km and lp before. My 4g connection works pretty good though. Any body got some ideas as to wtf is going on?
Update, I have always had my att all access bloatware disabled but since I was making no headway otherwise I enabled it but it did not improve my ability to text, sadly I have not found a way to disable it again?. Still no joy texting since the update!

Update2 had the carrier, Consumer Cellular, bounce my line and still no SMS. I have also confirmed another original shield tablet who took the ota and has CC as a carrier is also without SMS. Who else is having this issue? I have left feedback via the tablet to Nvidia.

I cannot help you as my T-Mobile Free 200MB for Life does not allow me to send texts, however I do receive incoming texts from T-Mobile occasionally when I go over the limit or plan renews.
Here is a theory. Perhaps the US LTE ROM is missing something crucial for SMS. Now, I have never installed the US LTE Marshmallow ROM, but on Lollipop, the US ROM was missing the AOSP Messaging app that comes with the RoW ROM.
If the US LTE Marshmallow ROM is still missing the Messaging app, perhaps try flashing the RoW LTE ROM and see if that fixes the problem. There is evidence that AT&T cripples functionality on things they touch.
It is true that ATT is a scourge. I had used 8sms and hangouts effectively previously. Would like to stay on the stock ota for my device but travel around the world quite a bit and really must have my unlocked device function as one! My sims that I use around the world did allow it and so does my MVNO here in the states! Thanks for he status of at least receiving a text from T-Mobile. Was it on us or row rom? I can't receive them either let alone send.

I flashed the Full RoW-LTE 4.2 ROM. You can flash/adb sideload using TWRP on top of any previously installed ROM. Just make sure you have the official TWRP 3.0.2-2 installed first as this version is compatible with all bootloaders and fixes the touchscreen delay bug.

Freedom Mobile No LTE On LTE Network

I'm in Toronto. On the Freedom Mobile LTE Network. I'm not getting LTE. Checked in About Phone, in the Hidden Menu, in Mobile Network in Settings, LTE is not working.
I called their tech support, told them this and they lied to me, told me the 4G I'm getting is the LTE.
In About Phone UMTS:3 and HPSA+:15 is 4G according to my research.
When I bought the phone they said LTE would be enabled in a firmware update. Only update so far was camera fixes.
So remains to be seen how long we need to wait to actually get LTE.
Okay, I emailed tech support a few days ago, we're still waiting on a firmware update for LTE here, tech guy says should be before Xmas.
Are you on the new LTE plan?
otherwise it might not work.
Yes, I am, I emailed them, tech guy said we're waiting on a firmware update.
| hello DP,
same boat here.
what is the fmrmware name or version to be applied?
on a side note: have you tried rooting your v20?

You can see the people in Howard Forums talking about this, their lte network is live but you can't actually connect to it.
By dialing *#546368#*915# and going into the modem settings you can force switch to the LTE band you want, but it won't connect. I assume by "firmware update" all they're really doing is giving permission to the phone, cause the network is already there.
I'm getting 80mbps down, but my phone is unlocked and I'm on another carrier.
Freedom is apparently going to actually turn the network on before the holidays, whatever that means. Don't waste your time because there's nothing wrong with your phones, freedom just lied.
seems like we all need to wait for the V20 firmware update to enable the LTE66
Same here, when I go to Field Test->Modem Settings->LTE Band Selection, I don't see Band 66. So I guess we have to wait for the next update (picked up the phone from WIND today and installed the update it prompted for, says up-to-date now)
The WIND Freedom store rep told me today that LTE/VoWiFi update should be live tomorrow. Hoping they actually deliver as promised
I called wind freedom support yesterday and the agent was clueless.
Asked me to do the standard reboot procedure.... (',,,,, sigh. ,,,,,,,,)

he was probably hoping the OTA update will pop up after the reboot.
but OTA doesn't work that way, it depends on the server side, also depends on when the phone did a last check-in with the server.
Just got a text to do an OTA upgrade to enable LTE.
Update was dated Dec 5th, but otherwise it had the same blurb about fixing the camera as the last OTA.

same here, usually I would eat the 556mb over data, but at our 3g speeds? that would just be silly

I've tried the manual date trick multiple times, WiFi on the 2 device management arrows will pop up on notification bar but comes back current software up to date.
My screen isn't pink but tomorrow is the last day of my 15day return period. Got AT&T over international for warranty and software updates. Considering ordering the international, just worried if it is defective I have no warranty in the US. Plus the locked bootloader keeps me from flashing new roms every week ?
What's up fellas.. My overall phone is ALOT snappier

Will the international variant work on at&t's network? I always thought international variants never worked on USA networks whether it be Verizon, at&t, t-mobile, cricket, or what have you.

International variants will work with GSM carriers as long as they have that carriers respected network band set, usually an international unlocked variant will have most network bands enabled for USA GSM carriers. I wouldn't try using them on Verizon or Sprint, since both of those carriers are CDMA and use a different type of network access - and it can be a pain in the ass if the phone is not in their system.

Ok now I don't think I am crazy now that somebody else said the same as me. My phone feels much better with this latest update.
Hey guys, fellow G955U owner here! I've been trying to force this update using the date change trick, but I'm 2 weeks into the future now with no luck does anyone happen to have the OTA file handy or know of any other possible way I can force it?
For whatever reason my devices are really slow to get updates and I always resort to a sideload...
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Changed the date all the way to August; at that point it would auto revert to today. Put in my other AT&T SIM, moved it ahead to May 15, and now it's downloading. I guess if all else fails, try a different SIM!

Yeah...you know, you can install T-Mobile firmware over the AT&T device. Also, that nav bar issue is singular, meaning just you. so what ever it is you're doing, doesn't happen to anyone else. Another thing, if you live somewhere where a USA carrier doesn't provide service, DO NOT buy that phone. Plain and simple, only buy what your service provider or country offers. If you don't you lose out on bands, sometimes LTE entirely, Slow LTE because of the advanced technology only being able to be used on the carrier for the device, and as with the case of AT&T, software updates. The only reason you people are able to even have OTA zips AT ALL is because AT&T has **** security with their OTA server. The only other method to get updates would be Odin firmware, which AT&T doesn't RELEASE, it has to be leaked by companies with a GSPN account, which BTW cost ALOT of money, so the firmware itself is a solid $20 for those who do buy it to share to people here on XDA. And just so everyone knows, this method of pulling OTAs for you people will be patched because Samsung has had enough of their test builds getting leaked by some peachy ***** like me that pull their OTAs from AT&T. However long it takes, who knows, but it's gonna happen. By the way, most of this isn't directed just at you so you understand that, this is to the public in general. Sorry guys but it's true.

I just got the new update from ATT, I have to borrow my friend ATT sim like usual. But the new version still has not fixed yet.
I also understand what did you say for the nav bar issues above, but mine is different, not the same results on Google search.
For example:
-Youtube or Google maps is auto minimize after 2 minutes or more on screen.
-Games are automatically back to "waiting screen" in any game.
-All require fingerprints applications automatically back to fingerprint require screen while I was using it.
So I know the issue is the "back" button, I did try to change its location, hide the nav bar, but the same issues. So I know that it does not come from the physical, it is the software.
I did buy an S6 Active 3 years ago so I know the update issues that I have to face with, but Tmobile released their S8 Active too late and I did not know that.

I've never heard of that. Also just realized that G892U is on BLv1 while AT&T is BLv2 [emoji52] so.....you're stuck on AT&T firmwares...

the new base version is G892AUCS2BRD4. That the BLv2, but ATT website always updates late, the customer services suck. The ATT new version always release after Tmobile version only 1 to 3 days, but the web needs almost 2 weeks for that. So I always check in Tmobile first

It's all good, that firmware there will bring you back to nougat and you can OTA from there or sit on it.

What do you mean? I have not try OTA via Odin for ATT active phone yet. The new update is around 47mb.

This firmware is nougat, so whatever problem you're having with the nav bar if it wasn't there in previous updates, this should fix it. Then you can OTA whenever and see if it's just Oreo you don't like, which is fine because you can stay on nougat. And also root I believe.
Oh wait, are you saying you want the BRD4 or whatever update?
