Hi everyone - I have a Verizon S3 that I use without any trouble here in the UK. My network (Three Mobile) will soon be turning on their 4G system, and everyone with a 4G device will be able to use it - including me. The only problem is that in order to use 4G you need an OTA update - whether this update is an actual firmware update or just changes to the APN settings, Three don't seem to want to tell me (or more likely, the Three reps don't know).
This OTA update is only going to be sent to Three branded phones and unbranded phones - meaning my Verizon S3 isn't going to get 4G enabled if I leave it as it is.
What I'm wondering, is if there's a way to load the Verizon S3 4G LTE with a standard Samsung ROM that's totally unbranded. That way I should be able to get Three's update and use 4G.
I'm new to this, and I've never flashed a phone before - all Google seems to bring up is Cyanogenmod, but I think that's a bit more custom than I want - I'm looking for something totally vanilla minus the Verizon junk. Can anyone help point me in the right direction? And has anyone used a flashed Verizon S3 in Europe?
Thanks a bunch,
Noam
Would CleanRom 7 work for this? scottsroms .com/downloads.php?do=file&id=415
I see that it's based on "the latest Verizon released VRBMF1 Jellybean 4.1.2 Base and is De-Odex" - does this mean it will still appear to be a Verizon branded phone? Any ideas?
Thanks again.

Ok, so lately my family has been considering switching over to Cell South (we live in mississippi) due to ATT being hardasses about switching my dads phone over to his business account.
Cell south has the Galaxy S phones available, and its currently the leading phone they offer that i'm interested in, followed next by HTC desire.
From everything that i've gathered, they are not updating their android phones to 2.2 until sometime early next year. the Froyo update is one of the main reasons ive been wanting to switch to something over my iphone. Wifi tethering being the leading reason. I know this is doable with apps and a rooted phone.
From what i've gathered, i might be able to update it, but i might have to manually input the carrier info into the phone? Is there a way to tell for sure if this will need to be done? If anyone else happens to be on Cellular Souths network who had delt with updating their phones, i would love some help/info, or if anyone can point me the way, i'd be quite grateful.
I've just been taking in so much info about these phones over the past few days its starting to get a bit fuzzy in areas.
Also, is Rooting these devices the same as any other, regardless of which network you are on?
And just another quick Galaxy question, im not sure im crazy about the "touch-wiz" interface samsung has, and i think i would much rather be using the standard android UI. Is this something you can do by default on the phones, or do you have to do some of the rooting/other customizing things on it?
Thanks to anyone with any amount of information. getting excited to get away from apple.
You can change the input settings without rooting the phone. Z4mod on market is the best and easiest rooting method. Phidelt82 released a custom rom for the cs galaxy a few days ago. If you do get one and need any help pm me up.

Hi guys I need help or info about this Ive always wanted Motorola Xoom wifi only but I received Verizon one with 3g not upgraded to lte . I rooted it and installed ics for the wifi only system from Google or android website its stock ..
And works actually very well no 3g ..nothing about service I don't mind since I'm not with Verizon and not planning to go with them I just need wifi but my question is ...is it right I mean everything works good only the battery It seems like honeycomb stock verizon build battery stays longer is it because of wifi only ice version ..or something I'm not sure if somebody can help me with info
Hmmm ... me too. I have a Xoom tablet arriving this week, and it was listed as "MZ600 Xoom, LTE ready, Verizon". Which rom version should I install? I do not plan to activate it with Verizon, as I already have a dinc running CM7 nightly build 258, and waiting for ics. I would just like to run ics on the Xoom. If I don't activate the Xoom, which rom should I use, or CAN I use??
If both of you are not planning to activate with Verizon, using a Wifi only ICS ROM won't be a bad idea. I too have installed this to a friend of mine and he hasn't experienced any issues. You will not be missing out of any features because the only main difference is the 3g / LTE radio.
So anyone has seen the stock ICS for the xoom 3G version?
AFAIK wifi only is the only model to get an official update. Running the wingray build on cdma or lte is just fine.
I have an MZ601 3G Xoom that I purchased in Asia. I will be going to the US in a few weeks, and was wondering if someone could clear up a few things for me:
1. Is my Xoom eligible for the 4G upgrade?
2. If so, will I still be able to use my Xoom on 3G networks when I am in Asia and Europe?
3. How would I go about doing the upgrade in that it seems to be through Verizon and this Xoom has never been affiliated with Verizon?
4. Since I am running the EOS ICS version 1.0 ( fantastic ROM, by the way), I assume that I would need to change ROM versions after the upgrade?
I appreciate it if anyone could help clear up these questions so that I don't end up doing something that I will regret later on.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Everyone, I rooted my S3 and I am running Beanstown's Build 10 ROM and I realized the other day up in Canada that I was unable to roam. I was up at Tremblant with the wife and I had no data and voice on my phone. I allowed roaming but did not get any signal. My wife has the exact same phone but hers is plain stock (not rooted no custom rom) had no issues. She was able to roam.
Has anyone expreienced this issue and how do I go about fixing it. The radio that I have on my phone is VRBLK3 which is the same as my wife's phone. However, I had to flashed that upgrade myself while my wife got the upgrade via Verizon's OTA. Thanks.
anyone?
Going to be buy the Notepro in a few days and debating on getting the wifi or unlocked int. Lte version. Do wifi versions get updates faster? I know that 4g versions that are locked almost never get updates. Can the same be said for unlocked 4g versions?
I had unlocked 4g version of the note 2014 10.1and the thing never got an update.
Any LTE version is going to require work by the respective carriers once receiving the update from Samsung so yes, the WiFi version should get updates far quicker and more regurally. While Samsung still makes their changes to stock Google code, it is one step closer to stock than getting through a carrier.

But what if I didnt get it from a carrier? I can get the LTE, unbranded version.
In that case wouldnt it be like the wifi, not affected by what carriers do?
