I just got this phone a month.
I rooted it.
And I receive a OTA update in recent days.
I havent try it.
Should I do it? I just want to make sure what this update is.
The update is basically a bug fix, and its supposed to extend your battery life. I have noticed my battery lasts a lot longer with the update. It won't ruin anything, you will most likely have to re-root your phone though

thats great to hear that.
thanks
Yeah you'll have to re-root your phone but Z4 still works...I had to re-root mine as well after the OTA...I haven't noticed a difference in battery life tho

Can you get the OTA update if you are not using the phone with Verizon? I unlocked it and I am using another carrier now.
THANK YOU

Yes, you can. However it is being reported phone works better without this update on certain GSM networks at least.

Hi leobg! How do you to get this update? You get into some Verizon website? I didnt find any? did you have a bad expirience with Rogers with this update?
Thank you
Go to settings/about phone and tap the top item - system updates. Phone will connect to Motorola update server and will download the update.
Before you do so, make sure you unfreeze all frozen (renames/etc) stock apps, or update will fail to install. You don't have to unroot if your phone is rooted. Update installs fine on rooted phone (tested myself). If phone complains there are no new updates, you can download the update and install it manually from stock recovery (I haven't tried this way since automatic update worked for me, but since the update is signed official update from Motorola it should be able to be installed this way)
Update check does not always work. Sometimes you will see "update check not available at this time" don't get discouraged, just try again later. In theory it should work on both wifi and cellular data, so try both ways.
For me the newer firmware isn't working well. Every few hours the phone loses connectivity without any warning or sign. Phone says I have signal and data connection, but neither i can make calls nor i can receive, same with text messages or internet access. The only way to get it out of this state is to reboot it. I couldn't figure out anything definitive why is this happening, but I get the feeling the dreaded US operator ban protection kicks in. This is not confirmed. Next time i am close to the border i will experiment a bit more with this.
Old firmware seems to work fine. Ever since i am back to initial firmware i have not experienced this bug) i got uptime (without reboot I mean) as long as 10 days (240 hours) without losing connection (including trip to the Caribbean, roaming there both 2g and 3g on all available operators, of course airplane mode while in the air.

I currently have the same issue of loosing connection every now and then but with the old firmware. I am currently in Uruguay and it happens very often, specially when I leave it alone for a few hours. I then grab the phone and it lost the signal. And same, to get the signal I have to either make it check for available networks, or toggle the airplane mode on and off again until it gets the connection. Hummm, maybe it is the radio... In WM it was always advised to flash the radio and get the one that was better for your country and carrier. Is there a way in Android to just flash the radio and not the entire rom?
There is certainly way to flash the radio, radio firmware (also called baseband software) is part of the SBF. The bad thing is there is no other radio firmware than the one from Verizon, neither will be as this phone is Verizon only. Maybe Motorola will update the baseband in future again (it was updated in 2.4.330 if I am not mistaken) to make it better handle foreign networks. Only time will tell.
Sent from my DROID2 GLOBAL
Humm, i wonder if I can install the radio from the Milestone 2 from Argentina alltough it comes with only 2 frequencies: 850 and 1900, so I would be loosing the 2100 one...
I doubt. Baseband chipset is different on the two phones.
No, you can't install the radio from a Milestone to a D2G because they have different chipsets. You will almost certainly brick the phone if you try.
The radio NVM from a global device is almost twice the size of either a CDMA only or GSM only radio NVM because it contains all the settings and parameters for both radios.
Yes, most likely it is not possible. I wonder why is this thing about loosing signal happening outside the US. Maybe it is because the real bands we use abroad are not exactly the nominal ones like 850 or 1900 and in reality it could be like 1901 or the like and then the Verizon radio has that exact number that does not match the one used by a different carrier on a different country...

Is there a way to stop the update from downloading?
I did a check in the phone settings out of curiousity. and it asked to download the OTA, but I cancelled it.
Now it keeps reminding me now and again. A while ago, it downloaded itself LOL was around 20% then I quickly switch off the phone.
You can disable the following apk's in/ system/app to revent OTA:
BlurUpdater_VZW.apk
Fota.apk
Once this is done reboot the phone and enter stock recovery and clear cache.

Alright, I'm a flash addict, love trying all the roms and well I was switching from bamf 2.0 beta 4, to Gingeritis VIII. I did my wipes and everything special, yet when I finally load it up, my 4g is not there. I'm in a 4g area, and I can get 3g but not my normal 4g. Not sure what to do, I even tried restoring back to my bamf rom with no luck. I had it before I did the switch and it was working fine. Anyone else having a issue or know what could be causing my problems? Forgot to mention I did try changing the radio settings and doing a fix permissions, neither did anything.
Did you update the radio?
Have you called Verizon to see if there is an outage? My 4g went down for a few hours yesterday, might just be them working on the network.
Radio was updated and I'll give big red a call, I mean its kinda odd I hold my 3g easily yet my 4g dies. I've had my 4g all night, and it did happen in the morning, so maybe they are working on it.
Called big red and they told me it would be back online soon just a short outage in the area. Came back online as I was typing this lmfao

Everyone needs to remember, VZW is constantly upgrading/testing/fixing their LTE network. Things like this will be going on most likely all year as they continue to roll out to more cities/markets. First thing to do if your 4G starts acting up is just give them a call. More likely than not, they are doing work, it's just coincidence that it stopped working right after a flash
Yeah I can't get 4g to work either. It might be because I don't have it yet. I figured I would just flash rom after rom till I find one that works.
Just trying to get past 10 posts.
I am also in a 4G area (Los angeles) and had 4G all the time but when I upgraded to the Gingerbread leak I lost it and yes I flashed new radio, its been about a week now. Haven't called big red yet and also haven't heard of updates in my area but 1 week, that's a long time. I also reverted to froyo with accompanying radio and no change...wondering if anyone else in LA area has the same problem or do I have a problem with my phones hardware...
Be sure to reboot the phone like 5 times. That brought it back for me.

I haven't had any data since friday afternoon. I had it connect to 3G earlier this morning but it promptly disconnected.
I've tried rebooting since friday. Setting to CDMA, enabling Rev A from ##778. Still nothing.

I called tech support and let them know of the issue, said there is no 4g outages in my area (los angeles) and was instructed to factory reset, which i do before any rom install then i gotta call back-if and when i get this resolved i will post the outcome.
Not sure what rom you're on now, but whenever I flash something if I lose data I have to go into the antenna settings and force 4G for a while and it will pop back up

I'm still on Baseband 1.16.00.0223 and Software 1.12.605.6
Could it be since i'm rooted and have not applied the OTA, that verizon is refusing to authenticate my data (connection)? Because when i look at lteonoff, it says i'm connected to whatever network i specify, (LTE, CDMA - eHRPD OR Rev. A [if i go into ##778])
If I go to options ->software update -> check new, the 3G or 4G icon will pop up and checks for a newer firmware. It tells me there is a new update and i can press okay, defer, or deny. As soon as i exit that and try to use the browser, the 3/4G icon goes away. Should I update to the MR1 OTA?

Im just in a 3g area and everytime I go to a gigerbread rom and radio all I get is 1x. Then reverting started jot even fixing the problem. After about 10 flashes back and forth and rebooting a hung I finally ended up on Froyo with 3g. I'm staying here. Not worth my time to run gingerbread.
I was running a GB rom and this afternoon lost all data.
If I take out the sim card and reboot, I can get data for a minute or two...then it goes again.
I'm going back to stock and taking my phone in tomorrow.
Ugh to the guy that said call tech support to see if there is an outage, I don't work in a call center but do in a store and I hate when people come in or call for outages my suggestion is to follow @vzwsupport on Twitter they will let you know in no time and it keeps you from having to go through the menus and crap.

I re-flashed back to stock and now I've got 4G back.
If anyone is having these problems after running GB I would use JCase's "back to Froyo" flash before trying anything else.
Verizon has had a known problem of thunderbolts loosing its 4g, 3g and 1x. I had the same problem over a month ago when my phone was only able to receive calls and text. Had no data.. so I called them they had me do a factory reset and it fixed it

turn off background data and auto sync then reboot when u get 4g wait a sec then check the internet to make sure its really on then turn sync etc back on back on
I applied the update late Friday night and have not been able to get a 4G signal since. I'm normally in a strong 4G area and had not had any problems like this in the past except for the nationwide outage of course.
I've tried battery pulls, toggling LTE off and on and even did a factory reset. I then talked to tech support and they did a few things on their end that were unsuccessful. They then told me to get a new SIM card but once again, no luck.
Tech support is at a loss to explain what is going on and has escalated it to the higher level of support. It can take up to a week for them to get to a ticket so I guess I'm SOL until they take a look at it.
Anybody else having 4G problems since the update?
I haven't applied the update but have been stuck in 1X all day as well. I also pulled the battery, switched back and forth on Rev A, and toggled LTE. Nothing. Was going to revert back to a saved ROM next. My wife's phone happily receives 3G.
Did the update Friday night and 4G is as strong as ever.

glad you got it worked out. I would have reflashed just the radio to try and fix it.
Having this issue as well since yesterday (7/11). Loaded Th3ory 5.0 with the newest radio to two different Tbolts (mine and a coworkers) and we're both experiencing the same issue. Flashed different versions of the radio, including the newest one again and had 4G come back for a short period of time before all service was gone again. Not sure if its an issue with Th3ory rom itself and since I cant post in that thread until I make a few more spam posts about nothing to get my post count up, I figured I'd post it here.
in Mid-town NYC where 4g has never been an issue before.
I should add that I wasn't rooted.
What happens if you're Rooted and running a custom ROM and you do a SIM Card pull? I really want to try this method, but i'm scared this will force my phone to download the new OTA update and that i'll either brick my phone or run into some serious issues.
I have had trouble for the last two days getting 4G, never had a problem before.

So I'm in Bangkok this week, and I have my unlocked stock rooted Infuse 4G with me and my Tru Mobile Roaming SIM won't connect to the right network because the stock rom points to the default AT&T roaming partners, and when I try to manually select a network the manual selection is greyed out.
I read somewhere on here that going into app SamServMode and selecting debug and Debug Screen and Phone Control and Network Control then select Manual it doesn't allow for selection.
The issue is the phone is preferring a different network than my SIM has a roaming agreement with, so I need to be able to manually select. Anyone know of a solution without changing roms?
Thanks!
Anyone? I bought a local DTAC sim and it works fine since DTAC is the official AT&T roaming partner the ROM allows hooking on to it, but still can't use non-DTAC sims as the rom doesn't allow manual network selection
Bump.
Can anyone help her?

So I'm heading home to the states in 24 hours... but I do think this is an interesting topic hopefully someone can assist with. Seems that even when unlocked, a carrrier cannot be manually selected, leaving roaming limited to the carriers att allows even when using another carriers global sim. Seems a limitation of stock rom but is the first time I've seen this on a phone.
Bella i've got the solution for you...
Flash the rogers modem..
The att modems have this feature lockedout, so any changes revert back.... I can confirm that the rogers modem gives full access to changing the network and it does stick....
Do so by pressing *#2263# with rogers modem.... You can then manually select the network to lock onto.

Well I keep finding things that are limiting my experience with this phone. It's definitely been negative overall in comparison to my old Inspire 4g, which was so open, with many ROMs available, and none of the locked down attributes of this Infuse 4G.
So is it really the radio, or is it the ROM? And what are the upsides\downsides to flashing the Rogers ROM? I definitely need to be able to manually select my network, so if's become a non-issue, just need to know what the best way to accomplish it.
Advice\suggestions?
The limitations are built into the modem package.... Not the rom.
Right now the rogers modem performance (and when we say modem, we mean the modem software that tells the radio how to communicate with the network) is on par with the newest att modem with the only difference I can see it the being able to manually select any network.
Bella as for you, unless you rather use odin, to flash with clockworkmod you indeed need the modded 3e recovery and the I9000 version of cwm on your phone...

I installed mod'd 3e Recovery just fine, then flashed the radio posted above in this thread. Seems to have flashed fine, however the manual network selection is STILL greyed out. Any ideas as to why? Seems like another member who said the ROM (Stock AT&T Rooted) is responsible. Are you sure this isn't the case? Any idea as to why I can't manually select a network now?
Thanks!
Now with the Rogers Modem installed, when I go into Network Selection it still is greyed out and says "Default Setup" .. put in a foreign SIM that has both AT&T and T-Mobile USA provisioning allowed, and it doesn't let me select which to use.
:-(
Guess this doesn't resolve the issue. Anyone else have solution as to what I can do to get that Network Selection box available to use? This is the first phone I have ever owned that has disallowed access when I put in a foreign sim. It's getting really annoying dealing with Samsung's inadequacies between flashing and operational limitations, ugh. I would go back to HTC in a heartbeat if the Inspire 4G got better battery life. :-(

I'm just baffled. How is there not a solution that'll allow me to select the network I attach to? I'm not even an AT&T customer. I paid full price for my handset, it's fully unlocked, doesn't even have the AT&T radio anymore, yet I can't select the carrier in the carrier selection menu? I weep for the future of this country's wireless industry if the ATT\T-MO merger goes through.

a) I'm able to use it just fine, why would you never buy it without contract? That makes no sense.
b) How are you having trouble unlocking it? It's the easiest unlock of any phone ever made. Doesn't get any more simple. Takes 10 seconds.
My TMO One S wont disconnect from whatever wifi network it was connected to. I left my house and drove miles away and it shows still connected yet its obviously not and data doesn't work via the cell tower unless you turn off WiFi completely.
I have the same problem. I talked to tech support at t-mobile and they talked to HTC they had me switch out the phone. That didn't fix the problem. I can say when I wipe the phone the wifi seems to work, but after I install everything and wait a day it stops. I do like the phone and am thinking it is one of my app causing this problem. I bought a second one s for my yesterday I will see if her setup does this as well.

Same issue here. I have left the house and been 15 minutes down the road and my wifi still shows as being connected to my home network. It does not do this all the time, maybe half the time. I can get it to connect to the cell network by toggling airplane mode on and then off.
I have worked out using a wifi analyzer that the wifi seem to lock up when the signal drops off, If I toggle the wifi on and off everything comes back just fine. The phone starts to find wifi signals again. I guess I am going to start uninstalling apps one at a time to try to find out witch one it is but I have over 60 so this is going to take a lot of time. I hope my wife's new phone doesn't have the problem that would make things easier to track down.

It is a known bug.
Hopefully will be sorted out by the 1.78 firmware update or a later one.

And your software is 1.XX.401.2?
If so, what is your XX?
The one I got with my phone when purchased was 53 and now after the OTA it's 78.

I purchased the H1S via Amazon as soon as it was launched, it is currently on the same software version you started with too, so it is on 1.53.401.2.

I have noticed that after my phone is hooked to the wifi for a few minutes it seem to stop scanning for other networks. I am going to try a WIFI manger and see if that helps. I hate having to turn off and on the wifi after I leave my house.
Called T-Mobile up, it is a software bug that HTC is actively working on. In the mean time, I have NO 3G/4G. I'm stuck on GSM 2G. :/
They coughed up the data portion of my bill, which was nice. Is there any way to fix it in the meantime?
I get 4G fine!

Same here. Not getting 4G. Seems like quite a few is experiencing it. Look at the Tmobile support forums for HTC one S.
Flash a custom Rom, get 4g back. At the very least I would root and take a look at the build.prop settings, might be something simple in there. If you'd like, upload your build.prop file so we can check out out

I'm going to attempt to run the RUU to go back, but I doubt it will work since I'm downgrading. :/

Would I still be able to revert back to stock rom jus incase I have to return it.
Well... now that I can't downgrade via RUU... :/
Alright, I can't take it anymore. CM10 didn't fix the issue AT ALL. I am stuck on Edge no matter what ROM I'm on.
Here is the thread on T-Mobile's forums about the problem
support.t-mobile.com/thread/33209?tstart=0 (I'm a new user here, can't post links, you'll have to cut and paste)
The problem appears to be specific to certain phones. I tried my SIM card in a demo phone at the T-Mobile store and we updated their phone to the latest version while I was there and it did not have a problem connecting to the 4G network.
I checked the software versions on their phone vs. mine and they all match.
This update contains a new HBOOT and radio update. Because of the HBOOT update, there is no way to roll back to a previous version. I am guessing that the problem is with the radio update since custom roms do not appear to fix the problem. Because of the new HBOOT, there doesn't appear to be a way to downgrade the radio either.
I contacted HTC and they were no help. They told me they were aware of the problem and were working on it, but had no ETA for a fix. T-Mobile told me they were unable to exchange the phone since there is no guarantee the new phone won't have the same problem.
The problem is a hardware issue with the one s.
Turns out a chip is fried affecting your 4g.
Even after installing another Rom, it won't fix your problem.
Happened to me and I got mine replaced.
It's not specific to the 4.0.4 update. It affects non upgraded phones as well.
If your not getting 4g then you got a bad phone.

I was getting 4G fine right before the update. Right after the update, no 4G. Others have had the exact same problem caused by the update. T-Mobile says it is a problem with the update affecting certain handsets. HTC says it is a problem with the update affecting certain handsets.
Are you saying the process of applying the update is frying certain handsets since the problem is only showing up by applying the update?
There is no 4g for the one S because the chipset does not support 4g.
If I helped in any way please hit thanks
I happened to encounter this issue. But my handset was defective because it was brand new and I'm stuck on 2g. I am waiting on a replacement phone. I literally just had it delivered today and it sucks having this problem right out of the box.

That is how mine was. My phone got "4G" (HSPA+) before the update, no luck after the update.
Same problem here with 4. 0.4. Went to CM10 and got 4G again. My MMS doesn't work though
I actually had this happen on the phone I bought directly from my local T-Mobile store last Friday (10/05). I went back in the next day after discovering the thread on the T-Mobile support forums, and they exchanged the phone for me in-store, there on the spot. I have perfectly functioning 4G now, but I'm terrified to run the update for fear of it happening again.
Does any one know if there's any kind of data specifying a certain production run of phones, or anything of that nature?

Are you retarded?
trmacdonal that is not very nice.
And not really in any way helpful.
According to the most recent post in the T-Mobile support thread, HTC is aware of the issue, has no idea what is causing it, and has no ETA for a fix. Glad I went and got another phone when I did, but I'm fairly miffed that I can't update without fear of turning my smartphone in a, well... phone.
Interesting that this happens only after the 4.0.4 update. I'd like to keep my fast connection; is there a way to keep the phone from downloading and applying the update?
I had a similar issue with my HTC G2 two years ago. HSPA icon appeared, but only one arrow would flash; no connectivity. I could connect to the Internet only using 2G and WiFi. Some devices had the issue, others did not. It lasted for about a month or two, then the issue magically disappeared. Perhaps they rolled updates when the problem occurred and resolved, I'm not sure. If I disabled WiFi on the G2, sometimes the HSPA would connect; there seemed to be an issue switching from WiFi to HSPA. Unfortunately, it sounds like the One S has a slightly different issue. I'll continue to monitor this thread and the one at support.t-mo.
