Switch recent and back key - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

I owned an old htc desire hd where back key was on right and recent on the left. Since that time, I've always had phones with the same layout. On my last LG phone I could choose the layout. Oneplus offers the same option.
Do you think it is an option on the U11 ?

No, not with capacitive keys. You could probably do it yourself if you run a rooted stock or custom ROM.

HTC Sense UI

I havnt purchased my HTC Pure yet but I do plan on getting one. In the meantime I was curious.
Is it possible to load the HTC Sense UI from the HTC HD2 and load it on the ATT Pure?
The HTC Sense UI im talking about is the one found in this youtube vid I found on Endgadget
http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/08/htc-hd2-gets-itself-a-promo-video-and-a-website/#continued
You would need to flash this ROM
So would that particular rom be possible on the ATT Pure? Or would hardware differences prevent it from running like its being ran on the HD2
You should be able to flash it no problem but since the Hardware Keyboard on the Pure is different from all variants of the Diamond2 then you would have to find a cab or registry tweak to change keyboard layout.
Edit: The ROM is built for Diamond2 even though it's using packages from the HD2
Pure has no hardware keyboard
The pure doesn't have a hardware keyboard, and yes, there are numerous ROMs cooked by chiefs already that have the sense UI found in the HTC Leo (aka HD2). You just have to pick one and flash away
lol what was I thinking, yes at the time of my last posting I was thinking so much of the Tilt2 as I had just placed an order for it.

Yea, I have the Pure, but debating about returning it for the Tilt 2, if only for the larger screen space. But the camera on the Pure is really good compared to the Tilt 2 (5 MP vs. 3.2 MP). Oh, what to do????
it all bottoms down to whether you want a keyboard or not. if you have a phone i'm guessing you have a digital camera so you probably won't be using said phone to take studio quality photos, just quick snaps here and there. and the .4 inches in the screen also won't make a big deal. if you can type pretty well on the pure and what to save some money stick with the pure. if you are a person who prefers a physical keyboard and the price doesn't matter to you get the tilt 2.

[Q] Which android phone? (UK T-Mobile) Desire Z? / Defy?

I am currently looking to upgrade my handset (HTC Touch Pro) to an android one.
I like QWERTY keyboards, but prefer ones with a seperate number strip (Typically 5 rows of keys)
I am unaware of any 5 row QWERTY android phones available in the UK, and my operator (T-Mobile) certainly offer none (I have been elegible for upgrade for ages but waiting on phone I want...), so I think I am outta luck and should probably not wait any longer for one.
I was thinking of compromising and going for the Desire Z (Which should be available soon I think, or even now) but I am not sure I want to bother if it is only 4 row.
So in looking at the no keyboard route, I could get an HD or something but to be honest I am not sure I want a phone that big and potentially fragile. Also I think the battery life aint that good.
So I am also looking at the Motorola Defy. I do quite a lot of outdoorsy stuff and a toughened phone kind of appeals. The defy is only 2.1, but looking at forums it seems that 2.2 ROMs are available. I use exchange mail, so I think I need 2.2. Are the ROMs 100% perfect or are they more like the winmo ports?
Advice welcomed!
Hmm, it seems from here that an official 2.2 update for the defy is planned for sometime in the next couple of months anyway.
Defy is a good phone, but I prefer Desire Z. Has a good keyboard, even with 4 rows of keys
The desire is definetly the better phone by far.
Defy got nothing on the desire z

Yet no-one says *why*.
On paper there seems little difference. If anything, the defy has a higher res screen (Although it is a regular screen not superlcd). Otherwise I see no big difference apart from the keyboard. The defy has a bigger battery plus the gorilla glass screen and ingress protection. What does the desire have that the defy doesn't?

Best buy phone, can the bootloader be unlocked?

My 6p just died and I'm looking for a replacement. The sooner the better. If I buy a pixel 2 xl at Best Buy, will it be unlocked, or will it be a verizon bootloader can't be unlocked phone?

It will be a Verizon model but honestly I have a Pixel 2 from Google with the bootloader unlocked with no desire to root. As long as you can get a good XL2 screen then go for it.
So on the unrooted phone, is there an option to decide how many icons wide by how many icons down the screen holds? Can you resize a widget to take up space you want it to? Can you install a different launcher? (I prefer my apps to be listed as text instead of a bunch of icons)
I think those are the big 3 for me in terms of custom rom or not. I'm not sure if you can do that with Oreo as I haven't been not rooted for a while.
Currently rocking my old Note 3 with Jasmine rom running android 5 while I figure this all out. At least I have a phone.

You can install a launcher to do all those things.
Here is Nova launcher with Pixel 2 layout.
And Lawn chair Launcher for OG pixel layout.
And Another Widget to get the new weather and date layout from Pixel 2 with custom icons bring used on both. How that helps
Here is the Widget i referred too from the Pixel 2 set up.

Where did "Split Capture" camera mode go?

Hi!
I think HTC was among the first if not THE first to introduce a camera recording mode that would use both front and rear cameras at the same time to get a split screen photo or video. This feature (it was called "Split Capture", here's a promo video of the feature) was on past flagships like the HTC One M8 and M9 but I think HTC might have ditched on their latest flagships like the U11. Does anyone know if this feature is still around in HTC's phones? I only have a U Play (can't find the mode) so I was wondering if the U Ultra / U11 still has it ...
Cheers!
Nope, U11 doesn't have it. I was wondering the same ?!
M9 has it, U11 doesn't. Must be an oreo thing..

I don't think it's related to Oreo. Didn't the U11 come with Nougat out of the box? I'm pretty sure the feature wasn't even there before Oreo. I think HTC just scrapped the mode from the native app. Apparently it wasn't all too popular...
Neither the htc10 in any Android version so it must be htc decision

Thanks for the feedback, I had hoped someone with an earlier HTC flagship would join the thread. So concluding from your info, HTC ditched the split capture mode after the M9...
Any other HTC die hards notice many features HTC brought out were never "popular" yet years later it comes back around and becomes the new "oh I gotta have that" feature? For example: Dual rear cameras... The Evo 3D (June 2011) and HTC M8 (March 2014).

U11 Eyes-rom on U11 Life

Hello
I bought a U11 Life, and not until I got it I realized I've made a huge mistake; I should have bought the U11 Eyes instead. Life obviously ships with a stock Android, while Eyes got all the HTC apps (which I wanted).
The stock Android is completely worthless to me, so unless I manage to change to a usable one the phone will do nothing than collect dust.
Question: Is is possible to find (and use) a U11 Eyes-ROM on this phone, or am I doomed?

So, do you have the Android One Version ? if you want to have Sense, I'll recommend you to change CID and MID and flash the USA Unlocked RUU.
