Accuweather - sunny every day!?! - Samsung Gear S3

Just setup a new S3 frontier with my iPhone 7 (I know ok!). Not my first smartwatch, by any stretch, so managing the S3 OK.
However, one thing that is bugging me is the Accuweather app.
For my location in the UK, everything appears correct, apart from *every* weather icon is set to sunny, even when the 'text forecast' is cloudy.
Anyone else had this?

I'm also in the UK, but using a Galaxy S7 not an iPhone.
By Accuweather, I assume you mean the Weather app on the Gear S3 itself?
If so, mine is fine (even if the weather isn't!):

thanks Zippy.
Yes, I was referring to the built-in Weather app (with data provided by AW).
So this morning I factory reset & tried the watch 'standalone' without a connection to phone. The Weather updated correctly with the right icons.
I then reset again & set it up with my iPhone & its still displaying the correct weather icons. Go figure

hmmm - then update the app from the App Store to the latest version....... refresh the weather ..... every day is sunny!
Grrr!

Might be worth contacting the developer, let them know..... I'm sure they'll fix it....... #optimism

My main gripe at the moment is that the hardware is nice, the software seems a bit ropey.
My Apple Watch just works (ok, still with an iPhone) & I'm more inclined to cut people like Pebble (RIP) a bit more slack. Samsung, not so much..

Since an Apple watch paired with a Samsung phone doesn't work at all, I'd say Samsung is doing pretty good having its watch work with an iPhone... If you want the seamless integration of an Apple Watch-iPhone combination, then get a Samsung phone.

Use Flyscreen for trackball to activate screen when locked

Alright guys, I usually never post new threads, but I am pretty excited by what this app can do.
This app was recommended by jerrycycle and when I went to use it, I can now wake my phone up by clicking the trackball button. I am still testing this to see what the pros and cons are about it and I will report back.
You can find the app on the market and on their official site here:http://www.myflyscreen.com/
Been using this app since the first day i got my N1(actually since i had my G1 and MT3g),and never notice that, unless it came in the last update, anyway great app, used everyday and love it.Pros to the dev

Nope, been available since day 1 I believe.
I notice Flyscreen got few issue on Nexus One:
- Themes not working
- All themes post at Market seems deleted already.
- Can simply unlock the screen by pressing the "Home" button.
Due to last issue, I need to remove this gorgeous Apps.

I used it for one day and i removed the app for the same third reason on your list.
Everything else you listed is also true about the app.
No good for me either.

Bleh, I've been looking for ANY decent way to get my agenda on the lock screen (I too was spoiled by S2U2 in this regard) and Flyscreen looks okay but you're right, Home button does go to the homescreen.
it's not a HUGE deal but seems they'd fix that.. I don't use my lock screen as a security method, although eventually I should.
My annoyance with Flyscreen is that widgets which should fit into it don't, seems a normal 4x3 Widget size won't fit, 4x2 is okay... Using Pure Calendar Widget to see my agenda. I'd prefer the phone not have TWO of these running, however...
Looked at Executive Assistant and it seemed a bit too much, plus the calendar didn't show locations, which is a big fail for me. I have meetings in random conference rooms and I gotta know where to go.

Wearable Widgets for Gear 2

Wearable Widgets (beta) for Gear 2 is just out on the Samsung store. You can now use any mobile widget to show up on Gear 2 screen. The feature is really great and you can also control the widget from gear 2 like pass touch inputs to phone.
I have enabled zooper widget and use it to show time and weather and call tasker objects.
It is a bliss on Gear 2
Check it out.

Awesome
This is a GREAT app!
Awesome app! One of the most useful apps available. Thanks!
SUPER ! ..Can I just add one widget?
Awesome. I installed it immediately. Off course for Tasker. I use Launch-X widget in which i create the shortcuts. But i find it to slow, especially when the phone is off.
I also used it to display my tasks, so i could read and fill in the items into another task app. Of the first section it was perfect. But when the screen of the watch is off and turned on again, the widget is reset for the first items. Not to the last scrolled position.
You can add only one widget per device..
I use zooper to add only my functions as a single widget.. Calendar, time , date , battery life and tasker icons

Works great. Will you be able to add the ability to have more than one widget per device? It would be nice to be able to scroll through at least 4 or 5 of them. Thanks for the hard work.

If you read the first post, you'd know the dev of this app isn't the OP. To answer your question though, the dev left this on G+
"Clarification for Gear 1 & 2 owners: Currently, the Wearable Widgets app has two editions, both with a significant limitation:*
• The one available through Google Play (including this beta group) does not support Gear 1 & 2 devices.
• The one you can download through Samsung's app store (including via the Gear Manager app) only supports a single widget at a time.
The reasons for this are complicated, but are generally due to a number of restrictions that Samsung has put in place. We are working to develop a solution to both of these issues, and will release it as soon as we can - but for now, this is how things stand, I'm afraid.
Thank you for your understanding, and your patience."

Just change the setting for what is shown on wake to last app / screen.
That means I need to go to the wearable widgets app continually before I am 'done' doing whatever I'm doing
The developer has indicated they are working on the ability to make this a watch face. I am looking forward to that update.

This just rocked my world... I don't know why I didn't think of that. Duh. Thank you.
Thank You
That's great, Thank You.
As I've been using it - I actually don't mind having it not be the main watchface. What I've done instead is make it accessible from one of the 9 shortcuts from the Multi-Watch "swipe-up" launcher panel. That way I can still have the customizable watchfaces of multi-watch, but when I want I can launch an info panel widget that has time, date, watch battery level, currently connected wifi SSID, current weather w/ 5-day forecast AND my next 3 calendar appointments. Using a customized Zooper widget for this. I've made a request to Zooper to allow adding Google tasks list items and the phone's volume state to a widget.

Change the OEM watch face?

So ive tried out the Watch styler app to change the watch face on my Gear 2 and to be honest wasnt to thrilled with the options that were available to make your own custom watch face. The ones for download arent to bad just looking for something of my own.
Has anyone had any luck with any other Watch Styler type apps? Either that or i would be happy with changing the color of the digital clock and say the weather widget that comes with the watch. The white is just rather boring.
Just looking for some tips here and hopefully give some others some more options!
Thanks guys

I've always favored Multi-Watch over the rest of the watch face customization apps. The ability to use any graphic for your background or using any wstheme watchface as a base to tweak your own is very powerful to me. Add on the ability to have a 3x3 launcher for watch apps when you swipe up makes it essential to me.

I actually stumbled upon that a few hours after i made that post so i greatly appreciate it! I just found that the watch face i picked really drained my battery today! I went from 5AM till about 4:30 PM and it died completely! Not sure if its the face or just multi-watch. Im going to charge it up and try another face. Maybe it was just that. Figured id give it a go before i put a ton of effort into customizing one. Just rather stinks that I had to pay for the app first to try it. But oh well. Its just a few dollars and it supports the DEV.
Thanks for your suggestion. Any feedback from your battery useage?

I normally don't use the premade wstheme watchfaces anymore, but I do remember certain ones eating my battery faster than the rest. What I do now is just take a graphic I like and make a clock face out of it, then customize the watch hands and other text.
I just customize the watch faces to my liking and use it via Multi-watch. Just waiting for the app to support weather and calendar as well.
Mutli-Watch app battery use is very low .. much efficient than Watch Styler.

[Q] Is the Sony smartwatch 2 worth it at $85?

Is the Sony smartwatch 2 worth it at $85?
Yes. Next question.
Yes.
compared to what?
u8?
pebble?
AW watches?
the u8 is cheap but crap
-screen unreadable outside
-crappy companion app
-screen is off in standby
-only 4 boring watchfaces
-hardly any firmware development
-must have phone or audio connection to phone, can't connect otherwise
the pebble is nice
-has a lot of support, both in firmware and 3rd party apps
-good companion app
-long lasting battery
-lots of watchfaces
i just don't like the design of the pebble, nor do i like the e-ink screen
the AW watches look nice, but AW hasn't evolved enough yet
and those watches are quite a bit more expensive
is the sw2 worth it?
i say yes:
-screen always on
-very readable in direct sunlight
-3rd party apps and watchfaces
-even though it's not high-res, it has a nice color screen
-good notification support, including filtered content from facebook and twitter
-battery life is pretty decent, about 3 days
-doesn't look as cheap as the pebble or u8
only wishes i have for the sw2 are native whatsapp support and a selectable screen timeout
hope this helps

Also, I don't think it has a watchface widget?

Not that I have a better way to propose. Watchify should be, but unfortunately doesn't work reliably and the developer is AWOL.

I never bother to clear notifications on the watch. They are there as a heads-up, but want them to stay on the phone anyway for when I actually deal with them.

I'd be very happy if you can point me to alternatives but as far as I know they don't exist!
watchify doesn't have a content filter does it?
i only want Tweets from certain people on my watch
i have the Sony smart extension for Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Sms and Call handling
for Hangouts this one
for Whatsapp an app that's no longer in the play store, still hoping for a native version by Sony
JJW has pretty nice collection of watchfaces as well
Use "Notify Smartwatch" instead. It has widget, font size control, clears phone notification when cleared on watch and content filtering!

I tried that before.
I think a smartwatch should show notification icons on the watchface, same as you see in the notification bar on your phone, whatever you're doing on the phone. So just the icons. Then I can see if there's anything I need to action or clear.
Notify Smartwatch just shows the latest notification in the widget, same as with Sony's widget. It doesn't show all the notification icons.

You can freely DL very similar watchface. Look for G-Watch by "italo sovena".
Only difference (unfortunately) is that weather dial is replaced with heart rate.
If you use Facer, there are a few versions of it available. I think this is the cleanest one.

And if you use Watchmaker search for Samsung Galaxy Watch Tomcat

Thanks, the native GWD version (G-Watch by Sovena) is *excellent*.
I have no problem with replacing the weather with heartrate, since weather on any watchface for the Gear has yet to be implemented properly by any developer that I've seen. I've tried over a dozen with weather, and every one of them results in 7-8% battery drain per hour, whereas all others without it only drain 1-2% per hour.
Not sure why, but there must be a common programming error in the API's themselves that causes it to try and refresh the weather and/or location continuously causing the huge battery drain.
Cheers
