What governs upload speed?
I am using LTE H2O wireless sim card.
https://www.h2owirelessnow.com/mainControl.php?page=index
I get great download speeds, but ONLY 0.01 mbps upload speed on my LG G5
I am on H83020F deoxed rom. I flashed the H83020F modem and still no difference. I am rooted with Magisk 12.0
I took the same sim card out and put it in my Samsung Galaxy S5 and the uploads speed is much faster.
What could be the issue?
Re: What governs upload speed?
I needed to select the H2O WCDMA network to be able to upload, and use Google Maps and upload MMS images.
I replaced my sim card and also used on-line support, but was not able to find a way to use the LTE network to upload data. I got the G5 for $200, so I can't complain too much... but I would have rather gotten the RS988 version on Amazon. It sometimes go on-sale for $250.

I don't have cable internet where i live due to the fact i travel to and from class way to much to use it. I tethered my phone via wireless or usb to my computer and run off of the 3g network speeds. I currently switch between CM7 and then new EVO Shift 2.3.3 leaked GB Test ROM. I noticed that i have 57% signal according to opensignal and when i download anything or load web pages they are very slow no matter how many bars i have. My download speeds are usually around 20kbps to 55kbps max Is there anything i can do to increase the net speed of my 3G connection? Or is there a app on the market place that i can use to improve or some how boost my 3g network speeds.
I've noticed a little bit slower speeds using the Gingerbread leak but nothing as slow as what you are experiencing. Have you tried the fix from this thread? [FIX] 3G Upload & Download Speeds
Sprints network for Michigan, Ohio and all its surrounding states flat out sucks I get them speeds daily and all Sprint keeps doing is knocking 20 and 50 off my bills, I don't care about money off they either need to fix their network or that roam controlling app is going to get me out of contract etf free I don't care to pay good money for good service but when I pay 160 a month for 2 lines I would expect to be getting the 3G Sprint lies and says I get,

Yea, know what you mean. I've called them several times here in Michigan. All they do is tell me is "we're working on the network to improve call quality and internet service" . Same answer almost everytime.

Have you flashed the new radio found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082192 its the radio that came out with the gingerbread ruu. I had the same issue. I was using the old radio on the new roms and my 3g speeds where about 50-90 kbps then upgraded the new radio now I'm getting on average anywhere between 300-700kbps

Ah is that what it was. I flashed a new rom the other day with the sense 2.1 and everything was cool except the 3g data speed. It was taking 5-10 minutes to download a 1mb file so I had to restore my other rom lol. My normal 3g data speeds are over 1mbps which is super fast. I couldnt even browse the web with the leaked build, it was ridiculous.

Wow when mine hit 700 kbps I thought that was fast. I came from T-Mobile and was getting 2-3mbps on their 3g also my girlfriend uses Comcast to go which uses the Sprint towers for the service and she gets 1.5 to 3 mbps speeds

hey
going to try what one do you guys do "1.17.651.1 RUU (Stock):" or 2.72.651.2 RUU: i dont have 4g here
i believe 1.17.651.1 ruu is the stock version that's already on your phone, for people that want to flash back to stock settings if the new radio fails to perform. you should flash to 2.72.651.2 if you want an attempt at an upgrade. personally, it did nothing on my end for the internet, but voice calls did slightly improve. i encountered problems too, where it would hang on the htc splash screen. i don't have an sd card adapter... so i had to put my micro in my old htc hero, run that as a mass storage unit, delete PG06IMG from the computer, boot into bootloader, delete everything, clean cache, davilk (i think that's what it's called), and re-load from nandroid backup. after that i saw 1.08... in about phone, baseband version so i guess i was successful lol. pain in the ass, but will further test it later outside and stuff... once the heat drops down over her in n.y. :]
Besides the fact that my 3G speeds crawl. My 4G is SLOWER on occaison than my 3G. Lol, why is this and how can I fix? It all started when I first flashed cm7

Sprint Mikshifted 2.1
I was wondering the number i had to enter to access the network settings for the mikshifted 2.1 mod. I tried to enter ##3282# and no luck with that . I noticed that my 3g speeds were 20kbps and its horrible lol. Have flashed the new radio on a previous version of CM7 and Kingdom 3.0 rom and didn't work so hot for me. Anyone have any recommendations?
just wondering, i just took the speedtest and got 2.46 up and 0.20 down =/ i think it might be a bit slow =/
If thats ment to be 4G its a little slow yes. The speed test on my signature was done on a the THREE UK 3G network using the stock browser on my Sensation. I think my local cell has recently been upgraded to HSPA+.
I'm thinking about switching to cricket wireless. How is your general impression on cricket? Is it exactly same as att network other than different APN?Is it okay to put ATT in build.prop?
I heard their 4g is capped at 8M. Is it still enough to surf the web?
I would appreciate your input!

Yes it's AT&Ts network.
1Mbps is good enough for basic browsing. So it just all depends on what you do.

I am using d850 on cricket. Good att coverage. Data capped at 8mb, plenty enough for browsing. Fast enough for Pandora, youtube. One downside, you won't be able to get at&t Ota update.

Thank you for your help. I guess I'm fine with OTA update as I use a custom rom anyway. I guess I'm switching soon. Having a bit of problem with signal reception with D850 (like 10% weaker than other phones), I can't rely on a weak t-mobile signal anymore...

I speculate D850 modem driver is not properly written. When I was on stock, I consistently clocked in at 8mbps. The wifi is also consistently over 50mbps (I have over 50 mbps wifi at home). When I upgraded to Lollipop (20f, I think), data went straight to heck at 2-3mbps. Wifi became sporadic, at times, it would hit 50mbps, at times it would drop to 5mbps. So I reflashed and drop back down to kitkat, and the data performance is restored. The signal strengths are the same on both kitkat and lollipop.
D850 still seems to be better than iPhone 6, iphone 6 plus reception wise. In my office, an iphone could barely get 4G/LTE. I can still get 200-300kbps on LTE, though that doesn't mean much.

Wow that's surprising. I guess these smart 'phones' forgot what they really are... I reflashed Kitkat modem over lolipop rom but yes indeed the signal strength is still poor. I'm at least glad to know that this isn't me only.

I've been with Cricket / AIO for about two years now and I love it. I have saved a ton of money on my monthly service and have had zero problems with the network speed. The data speeds are capped, but I can tell you with utmost confidence that it has not affected my ability to browse or stream. I stream Youtube, Netflix, Hulu and other video services in HD with no hiccups or slow downs. I've also used Skype without any problems.
The only downside is no OTA's, but if you flash custom roms this will not be an issue for you. I seem to recall reading that if you pop in an AT&T sim card, you can get the OTA's if you want them, but I have not tried this and cannot confirm.
Does anyone know if their is a way to flash an OTA?

I can confirm, at the minimum, you can flash to 20f. I bought an AT&T Gophone sim card (about $2 for micro on ebay). Just activate the card, no need to put any $ in the card. Once you activate the card, you have 26 days to top up with any $ before the card is deactivated. After activation, insert card into your phone, turn on wifi, update began almost instantly for me.
I was able to update only 20f. I think there was a 20l with Volte, but I wasn't able to get that. Never had the chance to get 21q (current version). Read somewhere, to get 20l, 21q, your imei must be in AT&T database. When I activated the sim, I entered 000000000. If I ever try ota again with a new sim card, I'll input my correct imei and see if I get the other updates.
Cost to you is about $2-$5 (depend on availability at ebay and amazon).
On Cricket, no problem. On 5.11 using CM 12.1, so updates from AT&T no problem. Also you can flash stock ROM if you wish.
I'm also on Cricket. D850, NOT unlocked, running rooted Lollipop. I used to be on Boost Mobile, and I loved their service, I only switched to Cricket because I wanted to use the G3.
*raises hand* I call the UK constantly from the US. With Cricket I get 10GB of data and 1000 international minutes for 70 dollars. Cricket is owned by AT&T.
The only downside is that they cap their 4G data to 8mps. That's plenty for me, but your mileage may vary.

What I would like to do is just present my situation and get anybody's thoughts on it.
I have a Nexus 5 running LP with cataclysm rom. I am on the Sprint Network. I live in Rexburg, ID and have a good LTE connection and 3G, but Sprint Spark is not available in my area. I'm on a sprint plan that includes unlimited data.
Okay so basically aside from 8-10am ish, at any given time my LTE speeds (shown with ookla speedtest) are at about 0.30 mpbs, not 30, but 0.30. Recently I decided to follow a tutorial on here to enable the sprint spark network band on my phone (even though spark is not in my area). Going into *#*#3282#*#* I went into LTE, Edit, and after I changed the priorities of the 3 bands so that band 41 was the only one set, I hit back to reboot my phone and tested my speed. It was at about 6.00 mbps. I didn't know what was going on but I thought maybe i "fixed" something and that now I could enjoy faster internet. Well, after a bunch of speedtests, it eventually went back down to 0.30 mpbs.
Fast forward to now. Essentially whenever my data speeds are slow (0.30ish mbps) I simply go into *#*#3282#*#* > LTE > Edit > I don't need to actually edit anything, I just hit back to reboot my phone, and I get fast speeds again, the highest I have gotten was 12 mpbs, and sometimes the fast speeds stay for hours, and sometimes only minutes. My uneducated guess is that when i do this reboot, my phone is switching towers or something and is connecting to one with less traffic and faster speeds. Not sure, but something is obviously happening.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening and why I see such an increase in speed whenever I reboot my phone from the LTE > Edit page? Am I being throttled? Is there anything I can do to make these fast speeds "stick?"
As of now I simply do this little LTE > Edit page reboot before I decide to stream something or use data on my phone. But I would like to figure out how to have fast speeds all the time.
So I tried to use my P2P as a Hotspot, but it's lagging bad not working at all. I've used it on other phones especially unlocked phones but never acted up like this. No download speed. I tried changing the apn settings but no luck. I'm using on Tmobile network so if anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Thanks
Screenshot of my ridiculous speed
Something strange is happening with T-Mobile.
Upload is fine. Download seems to be throttled.
This is on a tethered device.
Everything works as it should when the phone is not tethered.
I know that's weird. I wonder if we need to change something on the settings. I glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I thought it was my phone. I really like it but this is a huge problem that bothers me especially since I use my tablet for business and most of the time I use my Hotspot

Did you switch to the T-Mobile One data plan? I read that they limit tethering speed on that plan unless you pay extra. I haven't switched, I should try it out and see what happens.
Edit:
Never mind! I'm getting the same. Here are my results:
1) Phab2 Pro direct: 22.03 Mbps
2) Phab2 Pro tethered to my old LG G3 (CyanogenMod): 18.92 Mbps
3) LG G3 direct: no data (crashed every time, these constant crashes in apps are one reason I got a new phone, but I digress)
4) LG G3 tethered to P2P (with ",dun" APN setting): 0.53 Mbps
5) LG G3 tethered to P2P (without ",dun"): 0.19 Mbps
Conclusion: it's way slower. But, add dun to slightly increase speed.
