EVO SHift 3G Network question - EVO Shift 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't have cable internet where i live due to the fact i travel to and from class way to much to use it. I tethered my phone via wireless or usb to my computer and run off of the 3g network speeds. I currently switch between CM7 and then new EVO Shift 2.3.3 leaked GB Test ROM. I noticed that i have 57% signal according to opensignal and when i download anything or load web pages they are very slow no matter how many bars i have. My download speeds are usually around 20kbps to 55kbps max Is there anything i can do to increase the net speed of my 3G connection? Or is there a app on the market place that i can use to improve or some how boost my 3g network speeds.

I've noticed a little bit slower speeds using the Gingerbread leak but nothing as slow as what you are experiencing. Have you tried the fix from this thread? [FIX] 3G Upload & Download Speeds

Sprints network for Michigan, Ohio and all its surrounding states flat out sucks I get them speeds daily and all Sprint keeps doing is knocking 20 and 50 off my bills, I don't care about money off they either need to fix their network or that roam controlling app is going to get me out of contract etf free I don't care to pay good money for good service but when I pay 160 a month for 2 lines I would expect to be getting the 3G Sprint lies and says I get,

Have you flashed the new radio found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082192 its the radio that came out with the gingerbread ruu. I had the same issue. I was using the old radio on the new roms and my 3g speeds where about 50-90 kbps then upgraded the new radio now I'm getting on average anywhere between 300-700kbps

Ah is that what it was. I flashed a new rom the other day with the sense 2.1 and everything was cool except the 3g data speed. It was taking 5-10 minutes to download a 1mb file so I had to restore my other rom lol. My normal 3g data speeds are over 1mbps which is super fast. I couldnt even browse the web with the leaked build, it was ridiculous.

Wow when mine hit 700 kbps I thought that was fast. I came from T-Mobile and was getting 2-3mbps on their 3g also my girlfriend uses Comcast to go which uses the Sprint towers for the service and she gets 1.5 to 3 mbps speeds

hey
going to try what one do you guys do "1.17.651.1 RUU (Stock):" or 2.72.651.2 RUU: i dont have 4g here

i believe 1.17.651.1 ruu is the stock version that's already on your phone, for people that want to flash back to stock settings if the new radio fails to perform. you should flash to 2.72.651.2 if you want an attempt at an upgrade. personally, it did nothing on my end for the internet, but voice calls did slightly improve. i encountered problems too, where it would hang on the htc splash screen. i don't have an sd card adapter... so i had to put my micro in my old htc hero, run that as a mass storage unit, delete PG06IMG from the computer, boot into bootloader, delete everything, clean cache, davilk (i think that's what it's called), and re-load from nandroid backup. after that i saw 1.08... in about phone, baseband version so i guess i was successful lol. pain in the ass, but will further test it later outside and stuff... once the heat drops down over her in n.y. :]

Besides the fact that my 3G speeds crawl. My 4G is SLOWER on occaison than my 3G. Lol, why is this and how can I fix? It all started when I first flashed cm7

Sprint Mikshifted 2.1
I was wondering the number i had to enter to access the network settings for the mikshifted 2.1 mod. I tried to enter ##3282# and no luck with that . I noticed that my 3g speeds were 20kbps and its horrible lol. Have flashed the new radio on a previous version of CM7 and Kingdom 3.0 rom and didn't work so hot for me. Anyone have any recommendations?

4G not implimented yet!!?? plus more

ok i havent seen a post for this so here we go..
if you use adw launcher and custom make an icon attached to the hidden menu apk you can access the test and servicing menus like other phones BUT... if you go into test settings for phone (play around its in there) there is a menu the shows hspda (3g, hspda+ being 4g) and many other functions that are advertised on the phone that are all listed as NOT IMPLIMENTED YET!!
so as far as i can tell 4g is NOT active on tmobile at all yet. not until the software is upgraded (gingerbread i am assuming). so it would make sense why the signal on the phone is screwed up and dropping (confused phone maybe?) and why im still getting 3g speeds (slightly faster maybe from better signal reception due to upgraded hardware from my previous Vibrant).
go take a look for yourself and let me know what you think. im sure you can use desktop visualizer to get to the menu to. DONT MESS WITH ANYTHING THOUGH. i had to reset my phone and not with a hard reset, but a recovery i found on a nvflash website. almost bricked it. so just look but don't touch anything important unless you know what your doing.
im looking forward to hearing what everything thinks of this and the giant list of other features also saying this in the same menu. because i feel mislead just a little bit.....
I think it's just that the functions in the hidden menu aren't implemented yet.
Hmmm, interesting find! Maybe this explains the problems I'm having maintaining a stable 2g only connection as well

I've got a hot 4g connection where I am (west Texas), you don't get 4.9-5.6mb (Speedtest) download on 3g. Did you check the T-Mobile coverage map to see if you have it in your area yet?
Edit: you also may need a new sim card. Depending on the age of the card, you might not be able to get a stable lock on to 4g (age as in what generation it was produced.. not how long you've had it)
thats possible, but im getting 3g speeds still as far as i can tell and i don't see why it wouldnt be included in the "hidden menu" if it is working since we aren't "really" supposed to know about the hidden menu. anyways just something i noticed.
menu is Hidden Menu->modem settings is where the menu is at.
and i got a new sim card (tired 2 new ones both the same) and yes i am in salt lake city and it is a 4g area for tmobile. but seems like everyone (mostly) is getting signal drops all over the place. my 2g isn't working as consistantly as it did before on my vibrant either. im sure gingerbread will fix all of this though.
I'm getting 4-8mps down in Metro Atlanta. I say 4G speed is on.

I'm having the same problem, and I've even got a 2G booster in my house. My 2G connection drops all the time on my G2X but not my Vibrant. When I look at the signal strength when it's up it's not much different than the Vibrant, -104dBm on the G2X vs -100 dBm on the Vibrant
Im at a consistent 6-9mb dl at my house with a 1mb+ ul. Im calling it 4g and have you tried your conn outside of your city to see if its just congestion on the network?
I'm also getting 4-8mbps speeds in Atlanta, 4g is definitely working.
I'm in vegas, every hour, I get only 10 or 20mn of 4g at 6Mb download speed, the rest of the time I'm on 2g. At night time,i get 4g most of the time. So I guess in the day time, they kick me back to 2g to save their bandwitch, I'm returning my phone to let them know this is not acceptable

My phone SAYS 4G all the time in Charlotte NC but I have only been getting 1mb DL and about 1.5 upload. The weird thing is that browsing the web is lightening fast compared to the vibrant. I would say it loads pages twice as fast.

Not sure but this may have as much to do with the processor and RAM speed as the connection speed.

I am not complaining about my speeds which are plenty good IMO, averaging around 3-3.5 mbps. However, I have been surprised that they are no better than my Nexus One was that also didn't support HSPA+.
A few things, before we get too heavy handed on the FUD:
The phone is technically '4G' compatible, and it supports it out of the box.
Most of T-Mo's towers have been upgraded to support their 4G (HSPA+)
Regular HSPA caps out at about 3.5Mbps down. I've gotten as much as 7Mbps down on my G2x
Personally, I haven't had many issues with signal, but I live in Houston, so that may have something to do with it.
4g is on in Huntington Beach, and irvine.
I did notice its not a huge difference speed wise though. I had the moto cliq 3g and i would get 1mbs ish to 5mbs DL, and with the G2x im averaging about 3mbs to 7mbs. not a huge difference but the big change is Latency. I used to rock 700ms to 1000ms on 3g with my cliq, im getting around 55ms to 150ms on my G2x.
Latency is key for me though, i would prefer lower latency than higher download speeds. Due to the fact I need to vpn and voip with company network.
I found that t mobiles 3g network is still very capable in speed. the main issue i had was my cliq was underpowered to handle the t mobiles network. when i would tether my rooted nook color it would perform like a champ.

Where do you live? Is it possible T-Mo may not support HSPA+ in your area?
It's also important to note that even if the towers you're connected to support HSPA+, that's only one part of the process. They also have to upgrade the data connection to the tower itself (backhaul) to ensure it can handle the speeds. If you're connected to an HSPA+ tower that doesn't have the upgraded backhaul, that could explain slow speeds.
No.
HSPA+ ("4G") is on and working. You're just not in an HSPA+ area it seems.
We're all getting faster than HSPA speeds, so we are certainly on HSPA+. Speedtests are the best way for you to verify if you are on EDGE (2G), HSPA (3G), or HSPA+ (4G).
I would like a 3g icon just top know what type of tower I'm on, I think the baseband is wack, I bet when gingerbread comes out we will get the separate icons... Also my vibrant would get steady 5-6mb down 2mb up, but with this phone its anything but steady, I can get up to 8mb down but its crazy random, regular use is sometimes slow initializing, and someones websites timeout.... I think a baseband upgrade will fix all this stuff tho, or software upgrades.

That's the thing though. The way T-Mo has their network setup, if you can get 3G from a tower, you should be able to get 4G. Period. You may not get 4G speeds, but you're technically connected to an HSPA+ tower, and thus the 4G icon. It'd be weird to connect a tower that supports HSPA at this point, but not HSPA+ (though I'm sure there are some out there)

i9020a slow 3g speeds?

I just migrated from theN1 to the NS and my 3g speeds seem slow in speedtest. downloads are around 2000kbps which is usual for the rogers network in my area, but uploads are around 60-80kbps and pin times are almost 200ms. I'm using the Koodo version on the Rogers network.

Hmm that is strange, I was running cm7.0.2 with KB3 and KD1 and had normal 1.1-1.2mb upload speeds. Over on hofo there was a thread where quite a few folks were complaining about capped upload speeds with the NS, people were focused on the source of the issue being the KB2 radio, but it is seeming more like some sort of network issue in Quebec and Ontario as I have never seen capped upload speeds over multiple android phones here in Vancouver. It may be worth doing a nandroid backup, wipe and CM7 reinstall just for testing purposes though.
Here are a few threads that may be helpful:

I'll put my SIM back in my Nexus One and retest. That should rule out network problems.
This is clearly a local Montreal issue. I'm in Toronto this week and HSUPA is almost 1000kbps.
I am experiencing very slow 3g data speeds with my i9020a (AT&T US). I have never gone above 400kbs down on full bar 3g signal.
What's the deal here? I thought the i9020a was compatible with AT&T bands? 3g lights up, but data is just slow. My baseband after the 2.3.4 update is I9020AUCKD1.
Is there a radio flash I can do to get 3g speeds? If not, this thing is going back to Amazon. It's very annoying.
Just went to an AT&T store and they guy changed some settings on my account (I had a 4g plan with my Atrix). Initially, this resulted in faster speeds, but now they have dropped back down to like 300 kbs down on 3g and 100 up on 3g.
I'm so irritated with this. I'm most likely going to return it and go back to my Atrix. It sucks bigtime as I really like the Nexus S.
Is there anything else I can do to speed this thing up on AT&T? Surely there are others who have the i9020a on ATT in the US?

I too have an i9020a on ATT in the Denver Metro area - I applied the 2.3.4 update and saw abysmal upload and download speeds with the bundled radio. I flashed the KB3 radio and immediately saw improvement - consistant 2.0Meg down and 1.5 Meg up. I then went into the ATT store and switched my plan (was on an iPhone and thus had strange voicemail issues on the NS) and since, my data has been significantly slower (1.0 Meg down and .5 Meg up)...
I'm headed back there tonight to see if there is an issue in my account - otherwise, I'm going to start looking into the build.pref changes that others have referenced in the forums...

Tmobile data speeds after ROM flashing

Ok, so I've been all thru the RIL thread, the radio thread, and pretty much every other regarding improving the data connection for Tmobile guys like me after flashing a new rom but the information I'm looking for is either too scattered or doesn't exist so here we go...
To all my fellow Tmobile'rs out there, what rom are you currently using, what radio, what RIL, and what are your data speeds averaging?
Currently I'm running:
P3Dneon 2.0
Leedroid Kernel V1.4
base: 10.42.9007.00P_10.11.9007.15M
Ril: HTC-RIL 2.2.0159HMQ
Between 7 speedtests I did yesterday on a server 22 miles away here were my average speeds, all done between 6-11pm yesterday:
down: 2.70mbps
up: .25mbps
ping: 220
Interestingly enough, upon (so I thought) reflashing the HTC-RIL 2.2.0159HMQ today, my first speedtest immediately after yeilded 5.68mbps down/.44 up.
I attempted to repeat to see if it was consistant, but in the six tests I performed afterwards on the same server over the course of an hour I averaged
a measly .72mbps down/.22 up.
Now my phone is setup as well as it can be (wcdma preferred, phone is showing "H" and connected to hsdpa) but the data speeds are still absolutely horrible. Anyone having similiar issues or know any tricks to get the speeds back where they should be...?
Maybe not but 4g is hspa

It seems to me that TMOUS users are getting screwed over with the flashing of the radio or new rom in general...
I went from a 6mbps down, 2mbps up with stock rom only rooted phone, to a 3mbps down 1 mbps up with the revHD and LD. I was on the recommended Radio for revHD and Stock radio with LD.
Running the stock rom with S - off and rooted. I am getting a very strong 7 - 9 MB Down and 3 MB up. Live in a suburb of Boston. These are speeds I'm getting during peak hours. (10 am - 6pm)
I do not want to loose those speeds so I'm waiting for a while to see the speeds others are maintaining after flashing new roms.

Hey guys. I'm using my Sensation 4G in NYC. I'm noticing sporadic changes in speed..drastic changes. At some point the download will be a great 3.5 Mbps, and the next second, it will be 200Kbps. I'm standing in the same spot with the same server, and ping of 200 ms.
I'm running all stock ROM, kernel, and radio. Are we thinking it's hardware right now, or does noone actually?

I just restored a nandroid of my stock rom and my first test got me 2.04/.21, second 2.94/.53, third shot up to 5.09/1.3, fourth back down to 2.37/.36, fifth 1.2/.66, and the last was pathetic at .57/.08. Starting to think maybe it's network or hardware related...???
I didn't install any radios or Ril's. Only Roms installed. I'm thinking about installing the stock rom back to see if it makes a difference.

I played around with my stock rom and got over 5mbps a couple of times over the course of half an hour, which is quite a bit more than I did with any other rom. Going back to p3d neon 2.0 now with leedroid 1.4 kernel to see if speeds are any different...
My speeds match what I had stock. They do fluctuate but that's normal and it's the network, not the phone. Currently on InsertCoin Sense Android 2.3.4 with stock radio. I did flash the matching RIL from the thread mentioned. I've done this for every ROM update and speeds have been fine.
The "recommended radios" are probably not good for TMOUS Sensations. Just stay with stock radio and matching RIL unless you have some serious issues. If all else fails, there are some TMOUS based ROMs that shouldn't mess with speeds at all.
Installed the default RIL and have the stock radio. Still 1 mbps. Also I'm running a rom made by a USA user.

Could be the network at the moment. If it's a TMOUS based ROM and you're using stock radio and RIL, there really is nothing else I can think of that can affect data speed. Try doing a speed test on someone else's phone side-by-side with yours (and I really mean like in the same room, speeds can vary widely in different areas). Or do a nandroid backup and revert back to the stock ROM to test the speed. Then you can switch back easily.

Why are my "4G" speeds so incredibly slow?

I know not to expect LTE speeds from AT&Ts HSPA+, but it shouldn't be what it is in my opinion.
Average is .9/1 D/U with speedtest. Ping is 100-200ms most of the time, never lower, sometimes higher.
Fastest result I EVER got is 3/.1 that was at 3AM in a rural area (HSPA in rural areas you say? yep.). So is my phone's hardware bad, is Minnesota bad for HSPA+ in general, or is it something else?
Most people get at least 3/3 on average, and I haven't gotten that once.
Depends on where u are at. I got 6/3 around DC. Back in raliegh it is usually 3/1 d/u.
I think att just does not have 4g in many places.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using xda premium
It's HSPA+, that I know. I asked them at the store, I've looked at maps, and I believe a few of my friends with ATT "4G" phones get HSPA+ in my house.
3G is like 150Kbps, even though my "4G" is 6x faster, that's not exactly fast. It's like dial up compared to 512k DSL.
I get between .7 and 2+ at my house. When I'm up & around Nashville I get 2 to 5 on average. I'm sure that once att releases gingerbread for us, the dev's will have some good roms finished.
Cranky...
I hear some Carriers reserve the right to throttle a user's bandwidth if they decide that the user has used too much bandwidth for the month (e.g. by tethering, making the phone act as a server, etc.)

You know... every samsung android phone I've owned has had the problem. Except, for me, it will sometimes be really fast, and other times be really slow, all on 4g and all in the same area. It's very strange.
I browse a bit and download apps, I don't tether or anything. And I have a 200MB plan so it's not like they would even do anything about tethering, a full sized computer uses than in 10 web pages.
My friend with an HSPA+ phone is coming over in a few hours, I'll get his phone from him and see what his speeds are. If they're much higher than mine I'm complaining to AT&T or Samsung.

when your friend comes over why don't you both run some tests, than swap sim cards and run same tests, this will help validate if issue is with your phone or with your account/line being routed improperly or something.

What ROM are you running?
I also had a problem switching from an iphone, I only had a 200mb data plan, then I got the infuse never told them I switched. I was getting really slow speeds I called at& t they said I need to upgrade to a 4g data plan. After that my speeds improved immediately after a reboot.

@Entropy, it happens with any ROM, but in case you wanted to know for some other reason... infused 2.3.3
@BadFisH, it's a 4G data plan. They activated it at a kiosk in a mall and it's a 4G labeled SIM (not that that ACTUALLY makes a difference).

Any Froyo ROM should be fast, but since he's talking about complaining to AT&T and Samsung - well you've gotta be on an official release to have a valid complaint.
Yeah stock froyo is the same as any GB or other custom ROM. And yeah you have to be on stock for a claim, but I can easily use the unbricker to go back to stock.

Try testing at an off-peak time... I'm surprised you have full HSPA+ service in a rural area.
FYI all of our Gingerbread ROMs are known for poor data performance. One of the top three known issues with UXKG3. However if Froyo (esp. stock) is also problematic - it's likely that your area doesn't actually have HSPA+ service deployed yet.
Don't believe lowly store reps. If they had more of a clue they wouldn't be working in a retail store...
On stock froyo I was getting 3-5 dl and maxed at a little over 12, then when I went to gingerbread im getting 4-6 but capped at about 9-10. My overall speeds are way faster, but my max is a little less, I'm guessing it has to do with the launch of a bunch of new 4g devices and more users are on the network. Other than that I'm happy with my infuse running GTGs Infused 2.2.3.
The Infuse is the fastest device I've ever seen. Typically, I see devices in my area get 1-3 mbps down and .7-1 mbps up. Without fail, the Infuse gets triple, sometimes quadruple that (uploads generally the same).
My friend's atrix only got around 100Kbps higher when we ran speedtest at the same time. Guess it's crap HSPA+ out here, though it IS HSPA+.

[SOLVED] Horrid Network Speeds (not just mobile network)

Hey everyone, I was wondering what kind of speeds I should be getting here.
On the mobile network I get most of the time less than 2mbps, around 1.5-1.75, I ONCE got above 3mbps. That's download, upload is a dismal 1.2-1.5 mbps.
I thought maybe it was just where I was, bad cell tower, etc., but check this. My home wifi is reasonably fast, I get 12-16 mbps down on the computer with ~3mbps up. On my phone, connected to wifi, gets 4.5mbps down and just under 2mbps up. This shouldn't happen, should it? On my old mytouch slide, in the same room I'm in right now, I got 3-4mbps consistently over the mobile network (not even HSPA+, just plain old HSPA), and at LEAST 7 or 8 mbps over wifi, on the same wifi network. I'm very confused here, why is my HTC Sensation, which is supposed to be the latest and greatest, getting such terrible speeds? Do I have hardware issues? It's the same dismal speeds on every ROM I've tried. Stock before rooted, stock after rooted, arhd, cm7, everything is horrible. Should I call t-mobile and ask for a replacement? I just can't figure out why I'm getting slower speeds on HSPA+ than I was on 3G HSPA. Yikes.
Make sure your radio and RIL are correct (search the RIL and Radio threads) ... if you've tried different ROMs you may have over-written something.
I consistently get 16-20 MBPS down 10-15 MBPS up speeds on my home wifi (Verizion FIOS 25/25 service).
Get Wifi Analyzer from the market (free) and make sure you are not sharing WIFI channels with your neighbors.

My baseband version in about phone reads 10.58.9035.00P_10.15.9035.02_2. I think the radio that they test CM7 with is 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01, so I suppose I COULD downgrade, but I was having the same issues even before I rooted. As for RIL's, I know what they are but I have never come across them. I don't know if they're built in or if I have to flash them or even where to find them.
I have noticed HORRIBLE wifi reception with this phone. I can never connect to the wifi at my school, and at home, I can hold the phone right next to the router and it will still be 3/4 bars of wifi. Right know I'm in the room right next to the router and it alternates between the little dot of the wifi icon and the 1st bar. My computer gets 5/5 bars. My cell reception has seemed to be normal though, haven't noticed any huge issues. In fact, it seems to hang onto 3G/HSPA better than my old phone did. My old phone constantly bumped down to edge in my house. Speeds suck on this phone though, and I can't figure out why.
I tried that app you suggested, didn't find any interference, but saw how stupidly low my signal strength was. Here's a SS, attached.
Bump,any ideas?

The CM ROM is using the RIL for the radio mentioned in the OP.

Check the antenna contacts on the back of the phone; try bending them up to engage the pads in the cover.
Failing that, return the phone for replacement.

I decided to do a test as I have been experiencing substantial drop in DL/UL speeds utilizing my personal favorite CM7.
Radios varied with CM7 reco through latest HTC radio. Stock & OC kernal. Observation.
Dozens of tests. 6+ DL 2.5 Mbps UL.
Wi-Fi- Avg expected speeds 31 Mbps DL 6.50 UL Mbps. ( Wifi signal was extremely erratic). No fix.
revert back to Sense 3.5 NRG rom with 169 RIl matching radio.
Stock kernal.
Dozens of tests. Avg 9.25 DL1.50 Mbp UL
Wi-fi- same as CM7 however signal is perfect.
FWIW- complete stock sense posed higher DL/UL. Odd but how much stock I put into this?
Benchmarks- with both Cm7 & sense OC kernals.
Both scored heavily using the most common benchmarks.
AnTuTu-6381
CF-7667
Quadrant-3810
Stock kernal- nothing to write home about.
Other then the data speed, in terms of user experience, difficult to say. Other than I was always plagued with accurate gps lock using CM7.
I'm all over the place regarding the breakdown but I don't have much patience right now.
Enjoy.
Typical WiFi performance for me at home (fastest is ~20 D 10 U). Router is at the other end of the house (blue on the graph). If you have strong signal, look at the software (radio + RIL), if signal is weak check antenna.

So I guess I'll try the recommended radio. How do you check which RIL you have? I don't think its the radio though, since I had the same bad speeds on stock s-on before rooting. I'll try checking the antenna connectors in the casings. If I do have to do a warranty exchange, will I have to get the phone back to s-on to be under warranty?

Regarding RIL check- Run getprop gsm.version.ril-impl in Terminal Emulator (Download from market if you don't have). Takes 2 seconds to get RIL which will show 169, 173, etc...
Regarding exchange- I'm assuming you will have to revert back to S-on but I could very well be wrong, however I know for peace of mind, I would do this to ensure a complete hassle free exchange.
Wish I could assist more.
ahahaha.
i live in italy. I paid 19 € so about 25 $ for a bad connection of 7 mega in download and 0,45 mega in upload, but the real speed is 4/0,3
for curiosity how much do you pay in United states???
return to your phone, probabily you can to flash other radi.img
I am on a shared plan, but I think for just me, 4G data is $20/month, which guarantees 4G speeds up to 2GB of usage, then it starts throttling. I did check my usage, I'm under 1GB.
Checked my RIL against the RIL thread that's stickied in the dev forum, I have 2.2.1073HMQ, which is matched to the 10.58 radio that I currently have. So it can't be an RIL issue.
I also tested the speed of the data connection through a wifi hotspot on my computer. I still only got about 2 mbps on the computer, maybe 2.5, don't remember exactly. Definitely under 3 though, which is unacceptable. I think I'm going to call t-mobile, because I'm supposed to be in a 4G coverage area. But on top of that, my wifi speeds suck as well, which tells me it's not just network coverage, it's something to do with the wireless chipset, something isn't working correctly. I think I should be able to except AT LEAST equivalent speeds to my old 3G slide.

Verizon FIOS @ $100/mo gets you 25/25 fiber to the house, phone, and a few hundred channels of hi def TV. Wireless router included gets up to 20 MBps to the phone.
Sent from my Bricked Energy ROM Sensation.
So I called t-mobile, the first guy said he thought I knew what I was talking about and had tried everything that he had ideas for, so he sent me to tier 2 support, and that guy told me that it was probably something faulty in either the back of the phone (antenna) or the radio controller. He thought my wifi and cell speed issues were related. Since I got the phone at costco he suggested I try to do an exchange through them since I'd get a new device in exchange instead of a refurbished one. I'm going to end up going that route.
So here's my question now, once I get the new replacement phone, since it's the same phone, is it possible to take a nandroid of my current phone how it is and then restore it after I root and get s-off? Or would that not work since the phones would have different serials and IMEI's? It would be so much easier if I could just nandroid restore after I s-off, root, and get clockwork.

Alright, I'll try it, no harm really, worst thing I can get is a bootloop I'll just make sure and back up my apps beforehand just in case it doesn't work. I'm going back on Friday to try and get a replacement, so I'll report back then.
alot of 3g networks i noticed cap at 1.75megs down and 1.50-1.75 up and since the sensation wont tell us if we have 3g or not and list 4g as anything above edge it's just kinda hit or miss when u actually do have 4G but from my house right now i'm getting 1.75 down and if i go to the others ide of town i get 9.xx down (rarely over 10 though sadly)

My phone reports 2g, 3g and 4g. I can see the difference in data rate between the three.
The phone idles in "3g" even when near a 4g tower for power savings.
Sent from my Bricked Energy ROM Sensation.
Yeah, only sense roms don't differentiate between 3g and hspa. I've tried in different cell towers where I'm supposed to have full 4g, and I don't. I have maybe 2.5 mbps, most of the time 2 or below. I'm exchanging my phone Friday at Costco so hopefully the new one is different and I don't get one with the stupid ssharp screen. I like this Acer one better.
