Strange about camera - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Happened twice now on back camera. After unlocking and went to camera, it cant focus on anywhere. Everything is blurred even if touch the screen to focus near or far.
If i give it a little shake everythings going back to normal. 2 weeks i have this unit and it happened twice. Is it normal or my unit has a defect?
Thank you
Edit.....it only focus near..like macro shots cant focus more than that. Happened after pulling it out of my pocket after a long walk...

Happened to me too on camera mode

I hope someone can answer this...will wait for their opinions.

Have not encountered this. I use my camera heavily.
I advise going to a Samsung service center and letting them debug it.

I read this somewhere that there are some encountering this. They clear camera cache (in which i tried and luckily a good start) or simply tap or a little shake your phone and focus comes back again.
Hope it will not occuer after clearing camera cache

I cleared the cache before I shook it. Didn't help.

My phone do the same. Tap your phone on the side, and focus will be on.

If shaking the phone fixed it the problem is likely a failing ois mechanism. I would swap asap.

[Q] Blurry Camera prob

So... this probably came up here and there - since google is FULL of this problem on skyrocket.
I bought my wife a skyrocket a year ago.
A few weeks later, the pictures started to come out blurry.
I've tried everything - cleaning the lens, reseting the camera settings to defaults, playing with auto-focus, soft reset, hard reset, updating android via kies.
It still came blurry.
One day - it suddenly got sharp again!
We were very pleased, but then, a few weeks later - blurry again.
Since then, we had it twice again, but this time the blurry is here for good.
Front camera is sharp and running.
Does anyone know why is this happening or if there is a solution to the problem?
Thanks!

No.
Will it help? If yes, how so?
I got a used skyrocket (AT&T), it's on stock ICS. The quality of the pictures from that aren't sharp either. I have been searching too.

Just in case, I noticed you didn't mention Anti-Shake. For some reason it is not a default, but easily toggled.
Question: With AF and Auto Flash enabled, If you compose a shot at a distance of 7", does holding the soft Shutter button cause the screen to visible adjust focus and the white rectangle to go green with a confirmation beep?

Thanks for the feedback.
I did try playing with Anti-shake - no luck.
When I hold the soft shutter button, the screen does have the white recrangle, and it goes green before taking the picture.
Nevertheless, the picture, even after the rectangle goes green, is still blurry all along.

Camera Problem

I'm having a problem where the camera works for a couple of hours then just turns completely black and doesn't start working again until i reboot the phone.
When i say works for a couple of hours i don't mean a couple of hours of continuous use but a couple of hours general use of the phone.
I first notice it when I'm unlocking my phone as i have Face Unlock enabled,
The front camera won't start so i have to unlock using the backup unlock method (pattern in my case).
As soon as that happens the camera stops working all together, even in the camera app, like i said, until i restart the phone.
Any ideas ?
I had the same issue last night, I went to take a picture but the camera was just a black screen until I reboot.
I can confirm this as well. Only fix i can tell is a reboot.
Exactly the same problem here... Android 4.4 Bug I guess
Same issue for me, and i also have face unlock enabled. Very annoying.

I didn't wanna say anything as to not jinx it but i tried something that seems to have helped my situation.
I Force Stopped the Camera app in Settings --- Apps and then cleared the app data.
That didn't magically fix it but after doing that AND rebooting my phone i haven't had a problem with the camera.
It hasn't even been a full day yet but it's been working for about 18 hours which is great compared to yesterday's having to reboot every couple of hours.
Same Problem here. Also have face unlock active...
Thanks guys for reporting it here!!! I was really close on exchanging my otherwise perfect phone! Now I really think it's software and not hardware related.
Greetings,
Sarusani
Does anyone here get the bottom of their picture blurred out when they use flash? It always looks like if my finger is covering the lens which is not.

I get my Nexus today/tomorrow. I'll do some diagnostics and see if I can find out what's causing the black screen.
Happened once, black screen, reboot. I wasn't able to reproduce it yet.
So much for my "solution"
Just happened again.
I'm tempted to try a factory reset or flashing a factory image.
If anyone's actually tried this I'd appreciate a heads up.
Same for me
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I've had this problem on the Slim rom and flashed the factory image yesterday.
Last night, the camera was working well until I switched to a panorama, then it was black.
After a reboot I wasn't able to reproduce it.

I hope that it stays fixed for you but unless someone who has had this problem is able to confirm that they haven't had this happen to them for at least a couple of days I'm gonna stick with "This is a serious problem" (for me at least)
This is very unfortunate! Luckily I haven't come across this issue yet but I haven't used the camera much. BTW does anyone know how to change the focus to continuous? Can't find the option.
Apparently this is related to Face Unlock.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=61873
If anyone can confirm this ?
Who has had this problem and not used Face Unlock ?
No idea why this got posted twice.
The only way to "fix" it at the moment, is to turn off face unlock.
My back camera started crashing when i tried to take a picture in complete darkness and ever since i only get a black screen. I have tried to run the phone on safe mode and rebooted many times and it still gives me a black screen. Today i flashed my phone with the factory image and it still broken. I am suspecting this is more than just a software bug. Can anyone confirm this?
Adding myself to the problem with Camera randomly not working, and fix with rebooting.

Have you tried the usual like restarting the device? If so and you still have this issue try clearing the cache for the camera app via app manager in settings. If that still doesn't work try a factory reset.

Start the phone in safe mode and open Samsung test menu with *#0*# (if u can't open it u are probably running a custom ROM with no test menu support in it)
Try the camera test in there. If the problem is still there u have a faulty camera.
So my problem is a bit different but it is still a camera problem. So my camera started acting funny a while ago and mos of the time it wouldn't open at all and blocking the front cam from working as well. So i ordered a new camera module online thinking that was the culprit, as the old one made a rattling noise when opening the camera. At last it arrived today so i swapped the cameras only to find the same problem persisting. I have also tried different firmwares and custom roms but still nothing. Does anyone know a cause or a fix for this problem?

OIS Issue

I have this issue on my GS6. https://youtu.be/FzTMtryr72g
When I shake the phone the OIS is vibrating a lot and makes the picture blurry with an horrible sound.
The OIS vibrates the same way when the phone is hot (i don't have to shake the phone)
Do I have to send the phone to a repair center, or I can fix this by my self ?
It's strange 'cause apart from that the OIS works normaly I guess

It's a hardware issue that exists on the first batch of the S6 model. Other users have reported the problem after having the device heated up either through intensive tasking or by putting it in the car on a sunny day. My S6 was part of the first batch, bought it just a few weeks after released. The problem never existed until one day in 2016 I decided to do some gaming for 2 hours straight while plugged in. Boom! The OIS starts vibrating from the next day.
The only solution is to replace the camera or use it in cold places/weather. I never replaced it though. The phone is basically dead from OTA perspective. Better off saving money for a new phone instead.
You can try to repair it yourself if you can find a replacement camera module online somewhere.
Thanks for your answer. The OIS started shaking after I updated it to Nougat. And during the update the phone was burning hot :/

Camera not rotating view and motor stuck half way

Hi there!
Since ASUS isn't responding to my question, I might as well try here.
My brand new ZS630KL which I've had for almost a week now acted strange at some time during the first 24 hours of use.
When I try the ASUS camera app, loading the camera takes way longer than it did the first few hours, and when changing from back mode to front mode, I see myself up side down. Also there's a message on the bottom of the screen telling me the camera can't turn (flip) the image.
The camera module doesn't return to normal position if I try to drop the phone controlled (like you see every other tester on YouTube does it), but it did so the first few hours.
If I try to go back from front view to back view again in the app the camera stops mid-way, just below 90 degrees, and if I exit the camera app from there, the module tries to move back to normal position, but tries to go further than it should and you can hear the screams from the gears as they skip and skip and skip...
I do think this has to do with the gyroscope in either the phone or the one in the camera module itself, and have asked ASUS if there is some way to check if the gyroscopes are working or atleast try to re-push the firmware onto the camera module.
Using other camera apps like Snapchat or Facebooks camera functions work like it should, even though they all show the same system message telling the image can't be turned, their software flips it either way, and also their preview from the camera opens instantly like it should.
Anyone that has any idea what this could be are more than welcome to reply. Using it as my phone at work, so resetting the phone is an option if that could recalibrate the sensors, but I see that as a last resort kind of thing since the phone is brand spanking new.
Thank you.
Ouch.... does not sound good at all! I would return it as fast as I could and either risk getting a NEW replacement, or get my money back.
seems faulty piece, return it
Thank you both for your reply. I've contacted the webstore where I bought it and explained it to them.
Thing is that they've out of stock and doesn't get new shipment until 17th of July, so I have to wait a while either way. Sending it in for repair is out of the picture since it started acting like this shortly after first usage.
Ideally I would like a new unit, transfer everything from this phone to the new and then return the first phone. Transferring data from one phone to anther and then back to a new ZF6 again seems like such a hassle.
I understand your hesitation, but in case you are in Europe, I truly suggest that you send in the phone now before the shop gives you some trouble. You will have 14 days to return it without giving reasons.

Sure, I do get that. I'll see what the store says. They have to replace it anyhow, so question is how if they are out of stock.. ?
I'm experiencing the exact same behaviour with the flip camera as described in OP.
@Bjarte, did you ever resolve the issue or did you have the phone replaced?

I got it replaced. When ever this happens on the replacement it always works to just tap the flip button twice like Asus intended. Normally it's just the software that gets confused, especially when you switch from the stock camera and 3rd party apps it seems. But I can live with that.
The problem like I had on my first device was that the normal "fix" never worked.
Then I'm afraid I should need a replacement too, because tapping the flip button does not work for me at all.
Get your money back and stay away from this piece of ****!
I have never seen a phone with so many problems before people can even really get it in their hands.
It's up to you.
Issue caused by cover case
Turns out my third party cover case is blocking the proximity sensor, causing the retraction of the camera to malfunction.
https://zentalk.asus.com/en/discuss...-message-is-shown-camera-cannot-flip-pls-help
Several cases concerning this have been resolved due to the root cause being that a cover used was covering the proximity sensor located in the front. Even a slight cover of that sensor may cause this - as it is intentional design that when the proximity is being covered the camera should stop its rotation.
