Turning Off when I put it horizontally - Sony Xperia M2

Guys I'm having a trouble and cant find a solution. (Im Brazilian, sorry for any mistakes in English)
My phone is turning off for no reason when I put it on my purse, or leave it horinzontally on my pocket. Thought it was because of customized roms and flashed stock back, but the problem continues. One friend changed my battery but still turning off by itself. Do you guys know any hardware that can cause this kind of thing?

Screen going black

I've tried various different ROM images (including the excellent Dr.Gonzo), and I have this problem with all of them.
When I'm using the phone either with the keyboard in or out, the screen just switches off randomly. If I wait a few seconds (possibly the backlight timer length), then it comes back. Mostly... Othertimes I have to wait a lot longer, but it does always come back.
A reboot sometimes fixes it, but not always - does anything survive a reboot or battery removal?
Anybody else seen anything like this? I have seen a lot of threads about the screen staying on, but not off.
Of course, it could be a hardware fault, but because it's intermittent, it's hard to prove.

same problem
If you shake the phone can you re-produce this problem? I've never not heard of this being affected by software - you might also want to ensure you're not overclocking it.
Nothing is removed when you do a battery removal or reboot, ensure your connections are all tight and make sure the SIM pins are all making contact and the SIM door closes, apart from that it sounds like a possible bad LCD ribbon.
Shaking it doesn't reproduce the problem.
Once the phone has started doing this, it happens everytime you press a key.
Seems more like a memory leak to me since it always seems to happen after a while of web browsing/email use.
So actually, it looks like it might be a hardware fault.
I think it happens when the device gets warm. After a few minutes with the screen on, keyboard lit up, wifi on, the phone gets pretty warm and that's when the screen seems to go black. Leave to cool and all returns to normal.

Same issue here, but the screen does not acually go black/blank it just seems that the screen backlight does not turn back on from a standby like state, the phone itself functions but just not able to see whats going on on the screen.
(keyboard lights work fine and come on when expected)
Not sure about the heat theory as it happens (to me) most often right after a call, anything over 30-50 seconds and the backlight problem occurs, when it decides to work again is a matter of luck.
As said before because it's intermittent, it's very hard to prove.
Has anyone who has had this issue, fixed it with a hard reset ?
Very strange ... but also getting very annoying now!
i got the same thing. took it back to warranty and they said nothing's wrong with the phone but i still get this.
I experience the same problems.. it happens pretty random, but every time when you hit a key. I have set all timers to never but the problem is still there.
Running Gonzo 1.1 at the moment, upgraded from guava.. but that didn't solve the problem.
It is getting so annoying now that I am about to throw the s710 in the dustbin
I have had the same problem!
I have turn it back to my provider and no problem now.
i have the same problem with my VOX
apparently, i can still receive phone calls, and do whatever i want with the phone,
but the screen just stays black, its like if you have unplugged your monitor
since i dont have a htc center in my town or anywhere else nearby.
does anyone know a way on how to open the phone, change what need to be changed and correct the problem? im all up for testing if that would resolve this annoying problem :s
cheers everyone
there is a dismantling manual somewhere in this forum. search.
i don't think taking it apart would help you because this is not a physical fault that you can locate.
and i learned that mcel is the retail seller of vox in mozambique. they should be able to help you with service. else just send a mail to htc support and they will guide you.
yes, mcel are the retail sellers, but i tried to go there, and there are no specialists on htc's there,
the thing is, i didnt bought my htc from them, so i can't go there and change for another one
but tks anyway
no problem
but do try to contact htc support by email. they might suggest a way.
I'm having exactly the same weird problem and I think I found some pattern when it occurs. Well, the thing is that in the bright day or in a room with lots of light it works just fine. In the darker conditions… well… not so fine. It seems to me that this screen blackout happens whenever the keyboard light is on and screen changes to full brightness (in the dark, because of the light sensor). In the daylight, keyboard light doesn't turn itself on, so s710 works. I don't know much but this definitely isn't some bad contact problem. Maybe some battery problem, but I doubt it since I can receive phone call in this condition. This started to happen after I flashed this Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM from HTC (I have original S710). Flashing Dr.Gonzo's later on didn't bring any luck either. I believe that some power control SW is the main culprit. I've read that many people mention some Tornado Power Control app. Does anybody know can this application be permanently disabled or removed?
are you trying to say that by desabling the light sensor, the problem might go away?
i would also like to know if it possible to have the baklight on the lowest possible brightness forever, because it seems, on a low brightness the problem might go away

I also have this problem with the lightsensor turned off. And also at (as it seems) random moments.
well, even with the light sensor turned off, the problem persisted.
i got my phone to a repair shop of htc's, and they figured out the problem
my phone is now 100% thankfully, the repair man told that the problem was because of bad or malfunctioned circuits, he exchanged them with new ones, and the problem went away,
dont know wich circuits exactly, and he didnt want to tell me, but i suggest anyone having the same problem to try and do the same
probably its a hardware malfunction with these VOX,
its possible since so many times before i've heard about malfunctioned pieces coming out in large quantities for sale.
anyways, cheers everyone, and good luck Portugal in EURO!
I have the same problem. I just noticed that it usually happens when the phone is warm, so if you need to do something on my phone just... take some ice from fridge and put it on back of your mobile. I cant see any more solutions.
Please someone help us!
Update. Problem Solved
Just thought I'd update this thread I started.
I sent the phone back to my dealer (Grapevine in Poole,UK).
A week later, I got a brand new one back from the HTC repair centre.
So far, so good. Looks like the problem's solved.

[Help] O2 Cocoon big problem..!!!

I have O2 Cocoon but i dont know why sometime it's automatic turn off and i need to take off battery and put it in again to make it work
And 1 day it's off again but when i turn it on...it's keep repeat start up screen...and it's doesn't booting....!! it's always stuck into start up screen and keep repeat like forever...!!! and the important thing is it's can turn on start up screen when i plug the charger in....and with out charger it's said battery is too low (it's always said that when i have charger on...[When i hold Power Buttons)
Can't load start up screen on with out charger....!!!
Some one know how to fix it or have some idea to fix it..!!1
Thank you
Paul
that sounds like a serious hardware issue.
something related to power.
did you try to replace the battery?
i did...but it's samething ..!!
If you can't even get to load the OS and your device keeps on resetting, i'm afraid it's not something you can deal with..
of course, i might be mistaken, so i suggest you conduct a deep search into the forum concerning this issue. I hope you find an answer.
oh i did seach for the answer but i can't find it...and someone said i need to send my fone to O2 stores to fix it...cus this is an O2 fault..!!!
Yeah
Im currently having the same exact problem with my "fuze". mine currently has a custom rom on it and i thought maybe that its just some internal problem with the os. All that i think will fix our problems is a hard reset...does anyone know how to hard reset this device because for some reason the normal way is not an option.
ioono why o2 have this problem alot

[Q] Stylus wakeup and warranty question

I have my tp for les than 4 months. I realized that the super option of automatic wake up device after removing stylus doesn't work. I hardly remeber if this worked before i realised that problem. I know that there is a thread about making this stuff working again but that does't sole my problem. I can't repair it and I'm thinking of sending it to orange to repair that. And one more thing in my tp the funkcion button semm to be badly situated in the hone. Explenation. When the backlight turns on under my buttons the light is sparkling through the botoom off my tp. My brother tp doesn't have that problem.
the explanation i showed in the picture because problem is hard to describe.
The question is can this pb be solved under warranty??
sorry for bad english.
for the warranty it should cover it, i dont seem the reason why not, as long as u have the receipt youre fine cuz thats a tad strange, it seemed like u have a bad one
Ok so I decided
Ok so I decided to send it back to orange. The problem is how to describe the problem of the stylo and the buttons highlight? I have to describe it in some way so that those guys working in orange knew what to repair... Any advice how to write the explanation of the problem?

[Q] DIP Switch

Does anyone know what the DIP switch located in the transformer is for? The only thing I found is a post mentioning a different wifi setup.
My experience messing with it is that the transformer won't turn on when it is in the up position unless the tablet is plugged into its charger.
Please see post 7 for the issue I am experiencing and how the Dip switch is involved.

Search Been discussed before
I did search, here and Google many times over the past month. Only found 1 post with the info that I mentioned.
"The only thing I found is a post mentioning a different wifi setup"
If I overlooked something I would appreciate a push in the rite direction. Or is that all the info there is?
Off the top of my head, I thought it was the switch that disables the battery? Somewhere, in a galaxy far, far away, there is a thread, and buried deep in that that thread, someone speculated that the ASUS techs use that switch to shunt the battery when they service bricked TFs so that the flux capacitor doesn't blow up and send us all back to the 80s. OK, maybe that's a bit of a strech, but I do think it has something to do with the battery.

While the OP might not...I found your response highly amusing

Its use is still unknown, but at least the post confirms the behavior that the OP is seeing.

Nice! Especially the Back to the Future reference. Allow me to explain my situation and why I am so interested in that tiny switch.
I purchased my Transformer from Newegg back in July or August. It was an open box and I saved around $150 because of that. Unfortunately that means it only had a 1 month warranty, this brings us to my problem. It runs great but every once in a while a lot of the apps, including the browser, will force close. Also if I go in to settings once this problem starts and shut off the WiFi and then try to turn it back on it just says error. Trying to turn on Bluetooth also does not work.
The solution is to reboot, however, it will only run for a short while before the problem returns. I have tried the stock rom rooted and unrooted, I have tried various roms, revolution, prime, revolver. After flashing a rom or doing a factory reset the transformer will run for around 12 hours without the above mentioned problem but it always comes back and it happens more and more frequently until I do a factory reset.
I have tried countless things. Various roms as mentioned, factory resets, freezing as much as I can using titanium backup, not adding a Google account, turning off gps, different wireless networks, assigning a static ip address, using ExtSd2InternalSd v2.1 to install apps on an sd card. All of this with no success.
Enter that dip switch. I decided since my warranty was over I would open it up and do some poking around. I discovered if I put that switch in the up position and boot the transformer with it plugged into the charger it runs perfectly stable. The issue is gone. only problem is that I can only use it plugged in. This situation lead me to the conclusion that it is a power supply issue, maybe a defective battery (Not getting the full 1.21 gigawatts . So.... I switched out the battery in my dock with the one in the transformer and put the dip switch in its original down position..... No Luck, the problem persisted. Return the switch to up and plug it in, runs great.
Anyone have an idea?
How does it run while the switch is down (in the crappy position) and plugged in?

The problem is still there. I even tried it in the down position with the battery disconnected and the transformer plugged into the charger but the problem continued.
I guess it could be a power/hardware issue or maybe a sleep/software issue. Perhaps it doesn't sleep while it's plugged in?
Regardless, it's quite an interesting problem.
gee one, thanks for your help. Maybe someone will come up with a fresh idea, I have tried most of what I can think of.
I might try the dual boot Ubuntu thing to see if I have the problem in Ubuntu. I figure that mite help narrow down if it is a software or hardware problem. I lean towards hardware because I have not been able to find others with this issue. Then again, maybe others that have had this problem had a warranty and returned it for an exchange.

Forgot to mention, I tried setting the screen to never shut off in hopes that it would prevent the transformer from sleeping. Not sure if there is another way to prevent it from sleeping? Whatever the case leaving the screen on did not prevent the problem from surfacing.
Install ROM Manager and tell it to Fix Permissions?
I've had extensive FCs on some devices I've rooted and fixing the permissions has helped.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I have cwm installed and have ran fix permissions and while it did help with some of the apps force closing it did not fix my problem.
I was about to ask where this switch was at because I've never seen it, then I read that it's inside the unit. I have no reason to crack this bad boy open yet so that's why I had no idea about it.
It is a battery kill switch, makes it easier to work on without blowing the **** out of the unit by bridging the wrong points on the board for what ever reason. basically with the switch up it is a "service mode"

Galaxy S2 Skyrocket Won't turn on.

Hi everybody. I'm new to this forum also not native english speaker so please forgive me if I do any mistake or grammar error. Anyway, I have a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, the At&t model. I live on Europe so I use it as a unlocked sim phone. I have it for more than a year and It was performing good, no problems at all. But recently, I just put it out from my pocket to see the time, and it was off. It was doing good 5 minutes before. Tried to turn it on, it didn't. Pulled out the battery couple of times, still didn't turn on. So when I went home I put it on charger to see what happen, with and without battery on, no reaction at all. Tried to boot into recovery and download mode, still nothing. I heard about water damage but I can assure this is not the problem. So I went to a local phone repairer and it told me something about an internal part, something like 'memory chip' (I don't know if this is the exact word to call it in english) It would cost me about 40$ to repair it and I don't know if it's worth since the phone is a lot old now also I can't be sure how much it would resist or if this problem would happen again in no time. So I would appreciate if somebody would know anything about this problem and may help me to know a bi more cuz I don't want to rush and do it. Thanks.
