Slim Micro USB cable and High Speed charging for Galaxy S4

I'm looking to buy a few micro usb cables to have that will work with my Galaxy S4 and my Spigen Neo Hybrid case. Because of this I need to get one of the Slim OEM Samsung chargers.
I've gotten the warning on my phone a couple times that the phone is being charged slow, and for a faster charge, I should use the USB cable that came with the phone. Does the charging speed depend on the actual USB cable or the AC adapter it plugs into (or both)? The reason I ask is that I'm using some older adapters I had laying around the house (I actually don't have the adapter that came with the phone).
I'm looking at getting this cable off eBay for cheap, since it looks like it has the slim connector

I know this is just a generic one, I just didn't know if there is something specific I need to look for in a cable, or if I can just get a high speed AC adapter for it and it would hypothetically work just the same.
I am aware that the S4 supports charging at the higher amperage rate (I have also purchased an Anker car charger for that).
If anyone can help me understand this better I'd greatly appreciate it.

It boils down to the adapter the stock charger is a 2.0amp "fast charging". I have had several stock cables fail only a few months of use each. Cheaper cables for charging only and for data transfer it's a different cable a little more in price but not much.
Most chargers car and home are 1amp / slower charging and sometimes don't charge when using the phone with screen brightness up / gps etc. Just check for 2.0 Amp output chargers. Cheap USB cables varry by brand some break fast some last. I'm still using my old gs2 USB cable. Good luck happy hunting.

The longer the cable, the crappier it will charge. I have several different brands of 10' cables ebay, monoprice, etc and they barely charge at 300-500mA.
I'd go for a 3' for 4.5' cable. Even the 6' doesn't do so well for me.
Monoprice sells pretty quality cables. Avoid ebay.

I'm trying to find one with the slim end that will fit in my new hybrid case, that's the only reason I'd consider eBay. I'll double check monoprice

Use an exacto knife and make the hole bigger on your case.. don't let the case be a gate to a proper cable.

For fast charging, you'll need both a 2A charger as well as a high-quality charging cable. If you want to know more, the thread Findings on Galaxy S4 charging current makes for some interesting reading.

Figured I'd just ask this question here in this thread instead of making my own. I see the post above saying that the longer the cable is the crappier the charge will be. That's definitely the case because I bought a 10 foot charger from a gas station knowing it'd probably be chappy but thinking it would at least charge the phone. No go, with moderate use the phone would actually lose charge while connected to the 10 foot chrager.
My question is this...are there any quality 10 foot chargers out there? Also would using a higher amp adapter help with the longer cables or is that going to be a safety issue?

I use power tools a lot for work and keeping power to them is important. A thin power cord will result in tools losing power or burning up the tool by low amperage. I use 10 to 12 hauge when going anything over 25 ft and if you don't know that's a thick cord. the cord on a standard computer is 16-18 gauge wire as a comparison Better cords will result in better results. Cut the case, i had to as well as my headphone jack to accept my plug for my radio. was easier and it doesnt affect the case at all.

Amazon has BlackBerry 1.8A chargers with a 6ft cord. Like $4 each. They work excellent.

Vinsic 3A USB-C Car Charger

Got this in tonight, thought I'd share some pics. All of the paperwork that came with it is pretty much either how to return stuff you don't like or how to post a review on Amazon lol. The pictures attached show you all the information on the actual charger. I obviously don't have anything that can use the Type C for it yet but I will charge my lg g3 with a regular micro USB tomorrow. If anyone knows of a way for me to do some testing and tells me how I'm more than willing to do it.

They might not be calibrated for your G4(?). If it shows some whacky +/- 4000mah, then it's obviously wrong.

I got this too. I would try it with my Pixel, but I'm not sure there is any way to measure the charging current. I also need to wait for my type-c to type-c cables to show up from China...

It's says 3A on the charger by the ports, but does that mean its 3A divided among both usb points or 3A in each point?

As per one of the description on Amazon:
2x 1.5A if both ports are in use
or 1x 3A if single port (which is what RED ZMAN is hopefully able to test for us)

AFAIK you can't deliver 5V @ 3A over a USB-A connector... that is wholly unique to USB Type-C. The best you can do with USB Power Delivery spec is 5V @ 2A. So IF this charger can really deliver 15W power, it will only be via the USB-C port. I plan on testing with my Chromebook Pixel using a USB-A to USB-C and a USB-C to USB-C. I don't think I can measure actual wattage, but I can compare "time to full" calculations using each port.

I messed around with it today along with several different apps to try to measure the actual charge rate but wasn't successful. The LG g3 seems to have issues with most of these apps and the ones that showed readings that looked meaningful we're showing things like 520 mAh. This was with a decent quality cable that I have grown to trust quite a bit.
I have some types C cables coming but without anything to plug it into I really can't do much more measuring. I will say this does not feel like a cheap charger and I'm kind of impressed with how good it looks in the car. It also did seem to be charging my phone very well, and was a consistent 50 to 70 mah higher than the other charger I was using which was the accessory USB A port for a Tylt Qi wireless charger dock/mount.
Hopefully somebody with a USB C device they can measure with is able to get us good readings.

I'm pretty sure you're right about the limits of the USB-A. I think it's limited to 2.1A, so yeah, you'll need to have a type-c to type-c cable with a 5v/3a charger to get this to work. Ah well, the micro-usb run was nice while it lasted.
Question for the OP also, how well does the charger fit in the outlet? I read a few reviews on Amazon that say it's pretty loose in some and doesn't stay seated.

We had no problems at all with it staying in place. I use a lot of retractable cables so you're pulling on them to let them retract and it never moved unless they directly pulled on the charger. Tight fit.

interested in updates. although i'd like to see a charger that doesn't split the amperage between ports. i have a BT receiver and a charging cable in the device that i have now, so if there's one that can provide power to both A and C without splitting, that would be ideal.

Hmm, you got me there. I got in my Cable Matters USB-C to USB-C cable, to go along with my USB-A to USB-C cable. Sometime soon I will try both with the Vinsic charger and my Chromebook Pixel and see if they both charge at the same speed. I'm still not sure if Chrome OS has a "time to full" charging indicator or anything, though. With the Pixels 60W Type-C charger, the thing charges so dang fast it's almost always fully charged

You can use an app called GSam battery to measure the current, very interested to know if the A port is a proper 3A one

Female Type C to Male Micro USB adapter?

In trying to get through the awkard transition to Type C for everything, I'm hoping to find an adapter. I'd love for it to be Google compliant, but I can live without. Basically, I plan on carrying the google charger with the attached cord (https://store.google.com/product/usb_c_charger) around in my bag. However, I still have a number of things to charge using micro usb (work blackberry, wife's phone, portable battery, etc). So, I'd like to only carry the one charger and an adapter.
Even this portable charger that everyone is talking about (http://www.amazon.com/Portable-RAVP...id=1447799819&sr=8-18&keywords=type+c+charger) looks like the input is micro usb. So, to use it, I'd have to carry a C-C cord and a wall to micro charger, on top of my phone charger.
Any one come across this yet?

The USB Type-C port on that battery pack can be used to either charge your phone, or to charge the pack. Type-C allows for charge to go either direction. You wouldn't have to carry a wall to micro charger, you could use the google charger you linked.

1) A USB-C to C cable = to charge the nexus from the battery pack.

I have seen somewhere (probably the USB spec) that female USB-C ports are not allowed on cable adaptors. I have seen USB-C to micro USB male cables on Amazon, so if you carried one if these with you, you could charge any micro USB device with your 6P charger.
Also, +1 on the portable battery charging via USB-C. I wonder if it has pass through charging...The ability to charge usb devices while charging the battery itself.

Thanks Elnrik. I didn't see that about the type C in and out. It's still more than cables and things than I would like to carry - the two cables you mentioned, on top of the google charger, the portable battery itself, and the phone. I guess it'll have to do (for now at least).

Thanks. I may have to do that. the charger I linked to though is type c charger, but fixed on the wall end, unfortunatley. I may have to get another wall charger.

Original OEM USB Cable?

Hey guys!
Does anybody know where i could buy an original OEM usb cable for SM-T800 (possibly a store which ships to europe)?
I've googled around, but I found nothing but copies after reading comments?

I scanned the q-code off the plastic that came wrapped around my T800 data cable "GH39-01580A"

EDIT: I have ordered a few cheap cables from china/hong-kong everything from 1.5ft to 10ft for my solar panel, look for "28/24AWG" which is the thickness of the wires as well as reviews.

Do you know if there is any difference with ECB-DU4EWE?

It`s a number that is on my oem cable plastic wrap "ECB-DU4EWE" and "SW1FA06VS E" and the q-code printed on it is "GH39-01580A" , I suppose any of these numbers will give you the same cable, getting an oem and not a fake is another matter.
I just measured my cable it is 1.5m
I bought an cable off Amazon UK using "ECB-DU4EWE" when i bought my T800 just before Christmas, it is around 6" shorter but is the same quality and charges just as fast as the original one, I checked my Amazon account to buy another, but all i get was a different seller and the cable was black not white, so i am not buying that.
As i said, I have bought a few cheap cables from 1.5ft to 10ft and i will see how fast they charge my T800 when they are delivered, if we cannot find an oem cable, then maybe i can find a quality alternatives.

I bought a couple of the "mains wall sockets" with usb charging sockets built in, there is a lot of rubbish (slow charging) and dangerous version from china, I know this because i bought a couple and the earth connection did not connect to the earth pin on an UK plug (which is very dangerous) i got a full refund after i told the seller about my problem.
So i decided to do some research and buy some good quality usb mains sockets, I found an UK eBay seller, selling some with good specification and UK certified and , so i bought two sets of 2.4amp usb mains sockets, see photo below, I have seen 1.0 amp usb sockets all the way to 4.8 amp (supposedly i have not been able to find any) the amps are shared between two usb sockets.
So i installed them and tried charging my Tab S 10.5" and i think it was charging at 1.6amp according to (galaxy charging current app) after about 30min the charging stopped, the usb wall socket had shut itself down (died) but after 10min it came back to life, but i continued to die when charging my Tab S after charging any-ware between 5-30min , my other usb mains wall socket worked fine, so i contacted the seller and they said they had sold thousands and had only had five faulty ones, so they sent me a replacement.
While i was waiting for the replacement, I bought an "usb power meter" £6 and an "usb switchable 1amp/2amp load" £1 from eBay to test my replacement wall socket.
So i tested the replacement and it worked fine, I tested it for 1hr at 2amp my usb meter showed 1.9amp but close enough so it passed.
Now i had an "usb power meter" i can check how much power my Tab S 10.5" is pulling from the usb wall socket when using different micro usb cables.
The quality of the micro usb cable and the length determines how fast your Tab S will charge, I have measured 400ma with cheap poor quality cables up to 1740ma with the usb cable that came with my Tab S.
If you are looking to buy some "usb mains sockets" a good placed to buy is Amazon for your country, as the reviews (if real) are the best way to judge which one to buy, some usb wall sockets the usb port works fine for a few weeks then dies, this seems to be an common fault, so buy from somewhere you can easily get a refund/replacement.
Anyway the photo below is of an UK (dual gang usb mains socket)

I recently gave a try with a belkin usb cable from a friend of mine, and it charges at 1400mA, pretty much what I had with a huawei cable,
With my default cable, it charges around 500mA.
I didn't try any wall usb socket, but I don't know much things about how to install it and stuff, so i'll probably pass this for the moment

By Default cable do you mean the Samsung cable that came with your Tab S ??
I am charging at 1750mA with the cable that came with my Soshine usb power bank, according to my usb power meter on my T800, the software power meter are not very reliable but better than nothing.
I found an app called "nova battery tester 1.37mb" it`s not on GP any more you have to search for it, It tests your battery capacity it take approx 1hr30m and it puts you display brightness at 100% i tried it on my old Samsung S3 and HTC EVO 3D and it said my battery`s capacity was 100% but your device needs to be supported, it checks online for the specs, I have not tried it on my T800 it is most likely not compatible.

Yes, I meant the one that came with the tab

With my original cable, I can charge around 1500mah.
With a compatible cable like Remax, it's only around 1300-1400mah.
The worse I've tried is around 500mah.
What makes an original cable charge faster btw?

Basically the original cable has thicker better quality power wires, have a read of the link below.

Yes, but you will need to try them to be certain, Stick to short cables, the longer they are the slower they charge this happens to even the best quality cables, read the link i posted.

I am not sure why this discussion even exists. Just buy/use any brand name micro-usb cable (anker, monoprice, etc). My T800 worked well with all micro-usb cables except for those silly cables that came with the charger for a set of flimsy wireless headphones.

I have my T800 in an hard case and this makes it difficult to connect the standard cable as it`s now 5mm inside the case, So i bought one of those magnetic cables and i have been using it for well over a years and it`s great, I don't even need to look, It pulls itself into position with a satisfying click and i get an 1.69A charge rate.
Not all brands magnetic cables give a good charge rate, so read the reviews before you buy and from somewhere you can return it, if you get a poor charge rate.

I got the 1m version of this cable. There is not much to say about it, it looks good and seems to be of a similar quality like the stock USB Type C - Type C cable you get from Google when you buy a Nexus 6P device.
Both plugs have a <MODERATOR EDITED - SPAM LINK REMOVED> text engraved into the plugs. The contacts seem to fit well, the diameter seems to be the same like the stock cable.

I used the App Ampere for the tests in order to have a good guess, if the charger and the cable is a good replacement for the stock accessories.
I got similar values, even when I combined all pieces together. It seems that these items can deliver what CHOETECH mentions in the descriptions.
The phone is charged fast and the best readout I could get was about 2950mA which is pretty close to the 3000mA you would expect in theory.
The charger feels quite warm in comparison to the stock charger but I guess it´s still ok.
I´m happy with these items and I hope that these will last for a while.
Did you make similar experiences too ?

I can confirm this. Bought the charger and a 2m cable one month ago and I'm still very happy.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents into the discussion.
I got these CHOETECH cables to review and I was quite impressed with them. In all honesty they performed identically to the cable that came with my 6p. I noticed that my phone wasn't charging as fast as it was advertised (with both stock and CHOETECH cables) and was a little confused by it. I'm a musician and travel alot and on a recent trip I charged up in my hotel room and it was as fast as advertised (0-100% in about 97 minutes). It was then that I realised the issue may be with the power at my house.
Anyhow, if you're in the market for some additional cables to add to your arsenal, these are a worthy addition!

I did the following combinations:
CHOETECH charger + CHOETECH cable: The peak current shown by Ampere was about 2950mA, this combination charges the phone as fast as the stock items.
CHOETECH charger + Stock cable: The peak current was also around 2950mA or slightly lower. This combination also worked well, I couldn´t see any differences.
Stock charger + CHOETECH cable: The peak current was also near 2950mA. The phone also charged fast.
Now there are a few things to consider:
1) Ampere or similar tools are not 100% precise and can only be used to get a good guess if everything works out fine.
2) Even the slightest mechanical variation of the cable can also increase the resistance of the cable and lower the output voltage and the current. This can be tricky with USB Type C but the tolerances are so small that you might never notice a decrease of performance around 1-2%.
3) The built in battery doesn´t have a 100% exact capacity of 3450mAh. It can also have a slight +- tolerance which will affect the time measured to charge it.
Most people won´t check the exact time needed anyway It doesn´t matter if your phone needs 1,5 hours to charge from 3% -> 100% or 1,49 hours

I bought the chotech charger and 2 cables pack. Its working fine, but the cables don't seem to seat very well within the type c fitting in the ac adapter. They wobble. The stock ac adapter and cable are very solid. Wonder if anyone else's like that. The wobbly fit doesn't fill me with complete assurance and confidence over time.

I have this charger. I'm happy with the purchase. Recommended.

After doing a few weeks of testing with the latest Choetech Type-C to C *9.9ft(3M) cable and the Type-C 2.0 rapid travel charger, I think it's time I say a few words about them.
From my first impressions I was like wow this cable is super long. *Which could be a good or bad thing. I've been using stock cables for all my devices for a long time, and they have all been 3 to 4ft long. Which in today's world not long enough and not really logical if you need to have it behind a desk or while using it.
But anyways the cable is very nice and it actually snaps into my Nexus 6p. You can literally hang your *device from the cable without it falling to the ground. I tested the cable with CheckR app and it is approved and never had a issue charging my precious Nexus.
*Now for the charger not much I can say about it except that it just works. Charges my device from 5% to 100 in just over a hour. My Nexus says its charging rapidly on the lock screen. I have noticed sometimes when the charger is working really hard it makes a slight buzzing sound. But once the device gets to a certain percentage it stops. Now this isn't all the time just every so often. But it never effected charging. I highly recommend you all purchase these two products. You won't be dissatisfied.

I have bought 2 USB-C cables to USB 3-A & one did not click in to Nexus 5x & the other one says Slow charging?

Did you buy these Choetech versions of another brand, what charger brick are you using.

The buzzing sound while charging kinda worries me. anyone else? aside from that, and the heat it puts out it seems to work fine.

I talked to them last night. They have a new model that fixes that. Give them a email back if you purchased from Amazon. And if you buy a new one today you'll get the latest model from Choetech

The buzzing sound might be the result of saturation of the transformer built inside. I didn´t notice any buzzing since I didn´t put my ear next to the charger

It's pretty noticeable when you chilling with no TV on.

I checked my unit again and I can confirm a slight buzzing noise. It is barely audible though, you really have to put your ear next to the charger. I think this is something common with most chargers and as long as the device works, I would not care too much about it
