Female Type C to Male Micro USB adapter? - Nexus 6P Accessories

In trying to get through the awkard transition to Type C for everything, I'm hoping to find an adapter. I'd love for it to be Google compliant, but I can live without. Basically, I plan on carrying the google charger with the attached cord (https://store.google.com/product/usb_c_charger) around in my bag. However, I still have a number of things to charge using micro usb (work blackberry, wife's phone, portable battery, etc). So, I'd like to only carry the one charger and an adapter.
Even this portable charger that everyone is talking about (http://www.amazon.com/Portable-RAVP...id=1447799819&sr=8-18&keywords=type+c+charger) looks like the input is micro usb. So, to use it, I'd have to carry a C-C cord and a wall to micro charger, on top of my phone charger.
Any one come across this yet?
Thanks!

The USB Type-C port on that battery pack can be used to either charge your phone, or to charge the pack. Type-C allows for charge to go either direction. You wouldn't have to carry a wall to micro charger, you could use the google charger you linked.

So, if you carried around that google charger to charge the battery pack, and plan on charging the other devices only from the battery pack itself, you would need:
1) A USB-C to C cable = to charge the nexus from the battery pack.
2) A USB-A to micro USB cable = To charge the blackberry, wife's phone, etc, from the battery pack. (I assume you have these already.)
I hope that made sense.

I have seen somewhere (probably the USB spec) that female USB-C ports are not allowed on cable adaptors. I have seen USB-C to micro USB male cables on Amazon, so if you carried one if these with you, you could charge any micro USB device with your 6P charger.
Also, +1 on the portable battery charging via USB-C. I wonder if it has pass through charging...The ability to charge usb devices while charging the battery itself.

Thanks Elnrik. I didn't see that about the type C in and out. It's still more than cables and things than I would like to carry - the two cables you mentioned, on top of the google charger, the portable battery itself, and the phone. I guess it'll have to do (for now at least).

[Q] Charging with USB extension

I tried charging with a USB 3.0 extension cord , But it is really Slow .
Any idea how to get it to charge at normal speeds?

probally not a high enougth ampage, think it needs to be 2amp, guess its trickle charging (charging extremely slowly)
Standard power output on computer USB ports is around 0.5 amps. Way too low. As Alex says you need 2 or 2.1 amp charger such as the one that came with the Note.
If you are using a different type of 2 amp charger - car charger or battery block - you will probably also need a polarity switcher to attach the standard Note USB cable.
No, I connect the USB extension cable from the Note 10.1 AC Adapter directly, and then connect the Note 10.1 30 pin connector to the other end.
Why doesn't this work?
Is it supposed to dampen the amps?? or is there something wrong with the cable?

As I said before, if you use another charger (or an extension cable) you will also need a polarity switcher.
For example : http://dx.com/p/usb-data-charging-e...1141?rt=1&p=2&m=2&r=3&k=1&t=1&s=81753&u=91141
NB for this connection P1000 Tablet and Note 10.1 are identical.
If you don't have this adaptor switched to "Charge" then you will see a red cross on the battery notification symbol. Include this and the red cross goes away and you just get the charging symbol. Just tested it with a 2 metre usb extension cable and a switcher and it works fine.
Alternatively you could use this cable directly with your extension cable without using the standard charging cable (two cables instead of three) - http://dx.com/p/designer-s-usb-char...2276?rt=1&p=2&m=2&r=3&k=1&t=1&s=91141&u=72276
Just to Confirm, Does this apply to Cable ONLY extension cables connected to the Official AC Adapter?
BTW, the "red cross on the battery notification symbol." never appeared even with the USB Cable extension. The NORMAL Battery icon with charging symbol appeared. It was just charging VERY slowly.

I'm not using the intelligent Type 2 that has extra logic built-in. I'm just using a Type 1, pure cable.

I ordered that extact one and when I plug that into my original samsung adaper then into the 10ft USB 3.0 cable then into the original 30 pin cable, it charges but at a slow rate still, even with the little polarity switched to charge like you said.
I've used 2 usb extension cables, and the oem cable along with a 3rd party (Sync/charge) cable. I guess I should say I've used both the normal charger and belkin surge protector with built in usb ports.
This is what I've found. First the usb extension cable matters a lot. A "Smart" usb extension cable will take a little bit of the power to do it work, so less power to the device. Second if the extension cable is not well insulated or a thin cable you have more resistance and don't get as much power to your device. I now use a straight usb extension cable that you'll get if you goto Walmart or Target. Don't use one of the retractable/portable ones since they are normal thinner.
Now the intersting part. If you are running a custom Rom, that will effect how fast charging is with the extension. Redemption Rom only would do a trickle charge, while Omega v2.1 and "Collective Edition v6 Dark Side" both charge just fine with the extension. Redemption Rom did charge without the extension at the normal rate for me.
Kinda intersting that a usb extension and what rom your running could cause slow charging. Might not effect everyone the same way, but that is how I've seen things go so far.
Mine charges normally with a 3 ft USB 2.0 extension that has a thick cable on my factory charger but I only use it if I'm in a pinch.
I have never seen an Note 10.1 OEM charging cable longer than 3 feet. So if there isn't one longer........... is Samsung being cheap not to including or make a cable longer than 3 ft for the Note 10.1 or is there to much power loss for them.
You wonder as Samsung does make kick a s s products that seem to be fairly reliable so I guess they must have a good reason.
Instead of buying a longer usb charge cable I changed the unit that plugs into the charger, I use a long mains cable like the one in a ps3.

I had the same thing but when I looked deep in the charger I found that there are only 2 pins are used to provide the power the 1st and the last
so when you plug the original short cable then the extension it seems that it consumes more power I don't know why
I moded my cable that I broke the 2nd and the 3rd pins and when I connect it to my pc it charged normally with 1.5 meters extra

Slim Micro USB cable and High Speed charging for Galaxy S4

I'm looking to buy a few micro usb cables to have that will work with my Galaxy S4 and my Spigen Neo Hybrid case. Because of this I need to get one of the Slim OEM Samsung chargers.
I've gotten the warning on my phone a couple times that the phone is being charged slow, and for a faster charge, I should use the USB cable that came with the phone. Does the charging speed depend on the actual USB cable or the AC adapter it plugs into (or both)? The reason I ask is that I'm using some older adapters I had laying around the house (I actually don't have the adapter that came with the phone).
I'm looking at getting this cable off eBay for cheap, since it looks like it has the slim connector
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Samsung..._PDA_Cables_Adapters&var=&hash=item19e1e43753
I know this is just a generic one, I just didn't know if there is something specific I need to look for in a cable, or if I can just get a high speed AC adapter for it and it would hypothetically work just the same.
I am aware that the S4 supports charging at the higher amperage rate (I have also purchased an Anker car charger for that).
If anyone can help me understand this better I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
~J

It boils down to the adapter the stock charger is a 2.0amp "fast charging". I have had several stock cables fail only a few months of use each. Cheaper cables for charging only and for data transfer it's a different cable a little more in price but not much.
Most chargers car and home are 1amp / slower charging and sometimes don't charge when using the phone with screen brightness up / gps etc. Just check for 2.0 Amp output chargers. Cheap USB cables varry by brand some break fast some last. I'm still using my old gs2 USB cable. Good luck happy hunting.
There's some wire pair that needs to be crossed in the cable for the cable to run at a higher charging rate.
The longer the cable, the crappier it will charge. I have several different brands of 10' cables ebay, monoprice, etc and they barely charge at 300-500mA.
I'd go for a 3' for 4.5' cable. Even the 6' doesn't do so well for me.
Monoprice sells pretty quality cables. Avoid ebay.

Use an exacto knife and make the hole bigger on your case.. don't let the case be a gate to a proper cable.

For fast charging, you'll need both a 2A charger as well as a high-quality charging cable. If you want to know more, the thread Findings on Galaxy S4 charging current makes for some interesting reading.
Figured I'd just ask this question here in this thread instead of making my own. I see the post above saying that the longer the cable is the crappier the charge will be. That's definitely the case because I bought a 10 foot charger from a gas station knowing it'd probably be chappy but thinking it would at least charge the phone. No go, with moderate use the phone would actually lose charge while connected to the 10 foot chrager.
My question is this...are there any quality 10 foot chargers out there? Also would using a higher amp adapter help with the longer cables or is that going to be a safety issue?

I use power tools a lot for work and keeping power to them is important. A thin power cord will result in tools losing power or burning up the tool by low amperage. I use 10 to 12 hauge when going anything over 25 ft and if you don't know that's a thick cord. the cord on a standard computer is 16-18 gauge wire as a comparison Better cords will result in better results. Cut the case, i had to as well as my headphone jack to accept my plug for my radio. was easier and it doesnt affect the case at all.
Amazon has BlackBerry 1.8A chargers with a 6ft cord. Like $4 each. They work excellent.

[Q] TF700 charging and USB Host connector at the same time ?

I'd like to use my TF700 in my vehicle.
I want to have it charge while its also connected to various USB devices, such as a hard drive, DAC, etc.
I know that the TF700 charges when the special charger puts 15V onto the USB power pins on the USB charging data(slave) cable.
I have a spare TF700 charging/data cable. I also have a FT700 USB OTG adapter. I've tested my peripherals and they work with the OTG adapter.
Could I make the charging/USB data slave cable work for my application with the following modifications ?
1) find the power wires in the charging/data cable and cut them.
2) Connect the power wires going to the TF700 to +12V (nominal) from the vehicle. Would it need to be conditioned ?
3) Replace the male USB A connector with a female USB A connector.
I'd leave the new female connector un powered because I'd be connecting it to a powered USB hub, which would power any peripherals that would be connected to the TF700.
Would this work ?
Looks like the 40 pin port uses different pins for the USB host and USB slave functions.

Not sure how to proceed from here. Open up a USB OTG adapter, find the power wires and apply 15V to them ? Does the power supplied need to wait until the laptop says to apply 15V or could the wires have 15V on them all the time ?
This thread seems to indicate that its OK to apply 12V to the USB power wires full time.

I've got a TF700T and a TF201 dock and a misplaced charger. I ran into the same trouble that a lot of people here did ....... generic chargers not working, USB on my computer only trickle charges the tablet, nothing for the dock, etc.......
After much poking around I learned that both require 12 volts to charge. That said I dug thru my junk and found a 2.2a 12v DC wallwart. I hacked apart a USB extension cable for it's female end, broke out my breadboard and put together a 12v USB connector... that after several days of charging and draining.... charging and draining .... works like a champ.
So to be a bit more specific, pin 1 that's normally 5+ volts I'm supplying 12+. Pin 4 is ground same as always and that's it. If you wish let me know I can probably throw up a little illustration or something.

That seems to handle the power part.
Is there any way to get USB OTG functionality out of the USB charging cable ? Will changing the end from a male to female do it ?
Here are some pictures of the internals of the USB OTG adapter. It appears they brought all 40 pins out to solder pads on a sub board behind the connector itself ! Easy access.
There are 6 connections between the connector board and the main board. What would they be for ? <-- I'm thinking out loud here, but any suggestions are welcome. Host D+, D-, USB Pwr, GND ? I guess its not too hard to trace them.
Since I had to replace my cable, i've noticed the usb end it a usb 3 connector, which has 9 pins. Only 5 have wires. Which might tell charger to put out 15v.

Google Pixel doesn't recognize AC charger

Hello,
I bought a google pixel yesterday. Everything went fine at first, even charging it. But today, I'm trying to charge it and it charges really really slowly. 5% in two hours, and it loses battery if I use it when charging.
Found out in parameters > battery that my phone says it's charging by USB even though my phone is connected to the wall socket.
So basically I can't charge my phone.
I don't have more cables, I'm using the one that was sold with the phone. So I'm gonna return my phone to where I bought it.
Any advise / help / solution in the meantime?

Try rebooting the phone and switching the orientation of the usb-c cable as it's plugged into your phone. There's been reports of problems with the stock charger and it's not clear if it's a problem with the phone or charger.

I rebooted it, factory reset with all data wiped, nothing changed. Still says "USB charging" while being on the AC.
Not sure about the orientation of the USB-C. I'm using the USB-C to USB-B cable sold with the phone, and plug the USB-B to an AC adapter that I previously owned and works just fine (no issue until 4 hours). I live in a tiny country where the pixel is sold with a british adapter which doesn't work since we don't use the british sockets here, so I don't use the USB-C to C that is used with this adapter. Not sure if I'm being clear. But I don't think it's relevant anyway. Yesterday it was charging just fine.

The Pixel comes with a AC charger which a USB-C connector on it. The cable it comes with is also a USB-C to USB-C cable. The other cable USB-A - USB-C with the adapter is for quick data transfers, not for quick charging.
It comes with TWO cables, one adapter and one USB-C Charger AC plug.

Very sorry about the confusion. I use the USB-A - USB-C cable that I plug to a AC charger that works in my country. The phone charged just fine yesterday as far as I know, but not today. The AC charger sold with the Pixel doesn't work in my country since we don't use the same socket.
Is it possible your charger just went bad?
So, the USB-C cable was indeed the one I should have used. I just bought an adapter for the british socket of the original adapter, and now the phone is charging perfectly. So problem solved, thank you all for helping.

Beware of this Desktop Charger

I bought this desktop charger on Amazon specifically because it did not have a hard wired cable and apparently would allow use of the Pixel XL OEM USB C cable and charger to support rapid charging.

Surprise. The input port on this charger is micro USB not USB C, and the included cable is USB A to micro USB. It doesn't accommodate the OEM USB C cable and charger. Nowhere in the description does it mention micro USB. If you look closely at the picture, you can tell what it it is, but describing it specifically as a "Pixel XL Charger" is misleading (at least to me).
The hardware is good quality and of course works as a (slow) charger for the Pixel. As often happens with a low prioced item, it's not worth the cost of return shipping to get a refund so I'll just use it as is.
From the picture it mind of looks like that but not easy to tell. I agree. I also wouldn't feel comfortable with having it hold up the phone by only the charging port. Just a bad feeling that it could break the phone.

They sent you the wrong dock by accident. If you look at the reviews on amazon, people actually posted pics of the Type C version. Are they not wanting to exchange it? I wouldn't buy that one anyways because the design is EXTREMELY flawed. The Pixel XL is heavy, top heavy, that port wouldn't last too long supporting all that weight at a 40* angle.
I see no other version of this dock. This one has a USB-C on which the phone stands, and a microUSB port in the base. Based on a review from another buyer, it does provide rapid charging when connected to an OEM Pixel charger block using a USB-C to microUSB cable. Problem is the cable provided with the dock is USB-A to microUSB, preventing use of the OEM USB-C charger. I've ordered the correct cable and will see if it works.
I am very happy with the Seidio one. It has USB-C for both connectors: https://www.seidioonline.com/product/seidio-desktop-charging-cradle-type-c/
I would avoid any dock that does not have a stand section. As was said, the Pixel XL is fairly heavy. I went another way I picked up one of these:

I'm not sure how but when a use a wireless fast charger the Pixel says "Charging Rapidly". The connector is easy to remove for connection to a PC or standard USB-C charger. It also fits with my Spigen Rugged Armor case. At first there was a small bump on the back that kept the phone from laying completely flat on it's back. After 3 days that bump seems to be gone.

I bought a USB-C to microUSB cable and tried this dock with the OEM USB-C charger that came with the Pixel XL. Works, but still no rapid charging. Am returning the cable and using the USB-A to microUSB that came with the dock.
On the dock itself: As I mentioned before, it's high quality and the USB-C connector snaps securely when the phone is mounted. The phone stands nearly vertical and it seems to place very little leaning pressure on the dock's USB-C plug. Other docks for USB-C that I've used (e.g. with a Nexus 6P) held the phone at more of an angle and needed a "backrest" to offset the lean. We'll see over time on this one, but so far I love the look of the dock and the "snap-in-place" when mounting the phone.

No USB-A to USB-C cable will allow rapid charging of the Pixel XL. The cable must be USB-C - USB-C and the brick needs to support PD rapid charging. You cannot use a QC3.0 Fast Charger. It will not charge it rapidly.
I thought my wireless stand was charging rapidly but while it says it is, it is still slow charging. Fast wireless charging is the ONLY think I miss about the S7.
