Hey guys, anyone had dead pixels? Mines formed a clump, the size of a grain of dirt in the left middle part of the screen.
What's the number of dead pixels a device can have before warranty can be claimed? It's not a big deal, but kind of annoying on a new device.

thats what I was wondering in case i have to return mine due to red screen. you cant do a nandroid backup without root and thats the only thing i would trust not to screw something up when restoring. smart switch etc are all risky as they often result in battery drain and random crashes after restoring apps and settings. A proper nandroid backup wouldnt suffer form that since its just replacing the entire image. So I think the only safe way is to just let the play store/samsung store restore as many aps and settings as it can, and manually do the rest.
There REALLY should be a native way to do a full image nandroid type backup on rooted android devices by now, there is no excuse for me that it isnt part of android itself to be able to do proper backups, its ridiculous. Without it you either have to risk things not working right after restoring using smart switch or helium, or do it all from scratch.

Exactly. There's no real win. I've done Samsung backup and restores and all it does for me is keeps a list of apps I had installed and redownloads them. No saved data or anything. Nandroids were the best, but voiding warranty wasn't a good feeling. And now with Knox it's a real issue.

I dropped my Infuse and something inside the screen cracked but not the actual glass and now the screen doesn't power on. I have a squaretrade warranty so I filled a claim today. Not sure if they have refurbs already or if they'll attempt to replace the screen. I would like to wipe my phone clean before I send it back because I've received iPhones under warranty from them and sometimes the last owners info is still on there like email accounts and data from apps they had that I reinstall. I know iPhone is different but still would like to wipe this thing clean if possible.

You should be able to use gtg's unbrick without any issues. Download it from the dev forum

ive got a similar situation. The display but not the glass is busted and being warrantied. It was running serendipity . Should I take it back to stock before sending it in? And what would be the method of doing this with no help from the display?

Clear it out first. Format the internal SD too, not just restoring stock. Too many data privacy issues these days that it better to be safe than sorry.
Plus, there is a remote chance of Samsung billing AT&T full price if they happen to inspect ur device n find u have a custom ROM since it would void all warranties. There is a thread on Captivate forums where a few users got billed by AT&T a couple months down the line.
1. Connect to computer, and use adb to delete all data from internal SD. Not sure if u can format too, but if u can, great!
2. Use GTG's unlock to restore to stock.
Once u restore to stock, u won't be able to access adb (this is cos u won't be able to go to settings due to broken screen). So try to do this first before restoring stock.
So I rooted my Samsung Infuse and installed Clockwork recovery using the appropriate method for flashing the - v3 or ve or what it might be called - recovery. So then using Clockwork I backed up my current ROM (Stock). It acted funny later after so I decided to just go back and restore from a previous ROM. It said there were problems mounting a few things. Don't remember what those were. However, here is the real kicker; I may have used update.zip from the previous phone (Which seemed to be a T-Mobile My touch 3G with a 32A something and a 32B something else, similar to the Fender) I had since all I did was switch out the external SD cards since they were both the same size and I had all of my music on the My Touch.
So, if it did flash the Update.zip, is my phone, for the most part, completely bricked? It's symptoms include:
- Static pictures
- Will not boot into recovery
- Will display 'Samsung' but then cuts to static afterwards.
- Shows Battery meter when plugged in and my computer still recognizes and installs the device drivers.
- It will boot into Download mode. Dunno if that actually will help at this point.
If it still turns on you're golden. Just look for the ultimate unbrick thread in the development section and follow the op instructions to go back to stock. The unbrick also is pre rooted and had the right recovery installed, so you're good to flash stuff after

Trashing your partitions and bootloaders. Tho I'm not an expert on Samsung devices those seem to be the main causes of true bricks.

So if I change the partitions to like an ext3 filesystem is that considered trashing it? Yes, I'm fairly new to this entire in depth Android experience. I only took the Android over the iPhone because I am experienced with Linux and only touched a MAC (Referring to the Apple Operating System and not MAC cosmetics) three times.
Well, now I can't download anything in the market due to an 'Unknown error'. I mean, I can receive emails, I think I can call and text. I just can't use my smart phone to do dumb things now. This is a very disturbing complication and I will set off to find the cure for this ailment by posting here again.

Mainly bootloaders, and ours have enough protection that it's difficult to trash them.
It's next to impossible to hardbrick our phone. Worst case you put it in a state where you need to Odin/Heimdall something to fix it.

Yesterday I noticed the signs of screen burn in. Too many football games and poker games watched on mobile. I think the culprit is the video control bar in the jplayer app.
Now i need to unroot my device and visit the Verizon store.
1. where can I download the stock ROM for FP1 to replace eclipse ROM?
2. Can i flash stock ROM without loosing customer data?
3. I have titanium backup and would like to know what I need to backup so when i get a replacement device I dont have to spend forever reseting home screens and other settings. I'd like to duplicate the old palm days where i could plug in the device and sync it back To the way it iS Now.
4. Is screen burn in prevelant on smart phones and how do i prevent it from happening with a new device?

I remember someone else posting about screen burn recently. I believe they fixed it by displaying a pure white screen (via an image?) for a period of time.
Did some searching. Here's the thread about it.

Screen burn is only prevalent on OLED screens...the price we pay for the picture quality. Even then, it's not extremely common. The white screen can work, but you can't "loosen" the pixels the way you could on old displays. OLED pixels literally just wear out over time and with use and the only thing you can do to alleviate burn in that has already happened is wear out the pixels around it so it isn't as obvious.
There isn't a stock restore available yet. I was going to try to dump it this weekend, but I never got time. If there was one available, I'd be wary of coming from a custom rom without wiping data...there are too many changes that could cause issues.
So then what's the best way to get back to stock so I can visit Verizon? I don't have to keep data...but won't be able to use titanium to restore. Right?

Well titanium backup and then either pull the sd or copy the contents to your pc. Odin ep4d and take the ota. IF YOU DECIDE TO LEAVE THE SD IN THEN FORMAT IT because CWM and some root apps leave stuff on there.

Since the phone will be stock until I get to the store, is there any way to restore apps and settings without downloading and reentering info? I don't want the phone to look too stock. I want it to be gently used and worthy of a swap. are there any non root backup programs to help with this that would not tip them off to the fact that the phone had been rooted?

You worry too much, just download Go launcher Ex from the market and change your wall settings and drop a few icons on the home page. That's it.
Are you telling me to unroot and then add go launcher and customize it a bit to not make it ootb stock? that i can do. Thx.

Im getting a new phone. Should be here today.
Rather simple really:
Unroot phone
visit store
Store confirms defective device
Store sets up warranty swap from warehouse
Wait for phone to arrive
Root new phone and setup device
Wipe old phone & send back to vzw.
The worst part of the process was talking to the customer service rep on the phone setting up the swap and her telling me that it sounds like screen bleed and that i should file an insurance claim or will pay 199 for claiming damage as defective device. No way am i paying cuz i keep my phone fom getting damaged...

Pretty soon, I plan to sell my current phone, and some old tablets, in order to make money towards the new Nexus devices. I'm wondering, though, are there any security concerns for someone potentially being able to recover my data if I sell my phone off? Obviously, this is a big deal to me, because I have all my Google accounts (my primary one being the one I use my credit card through) connected to me phone. Being that my devices all have TWRP installed, my primary thought would be to use that to wipe the internal storage, and do a factory reset. But is it possible someone could still manage to recover my data somehow?
I hear people talk about this for PCs, and hard drives, about how if someone really wanted to, they could theoretically recover your data even if you reformat your computer. Is that possible on smartphones as well, or is it different, due to phones using what I assume is flash memory (or whatever type of memory, that's different from a computer HDD)?
I just want to make sure I take every precaution before I sell my phones off. Granted, I already use two-step authentication on all my Google accounts, anyway, but still. I don't want any risk of something bad happening.
Just make sure to flash a stock ROM on each of them a few times and you will be fine. Can it be done? Yes only if the space has not been over written. That is the reason for the extra Flash's.

So how many flashes should be enough to be safe? And do you have to boot up the phone in between flashes? Or could I just sit in TWRP, flashing the ROM over and over and over again?

I would just flash a few times in recovery. No real reason to reboot.
So "a few" would be what? 3? 5? 10+? What's a safe number?

3 To 5 times should be enough. This is the same thing a DOD wipe does. It over writes the system a bunch of times so any data in unrecoverable.

I guess, alternatively, I could just change all the passwords to my stuff while I'm in between phones, because then, even if someone was able to recover my data, they wouldn't be able to log in since the passwords would have changed, eh?
I dunno. That's going to be so much work, but I'm super paranoid about keeping my data safe, so I'm not sure I can put my faith in making my data unrecoverable by flashing a ROM multiple times. You could but ill be honest. Anything that would be needed to recover any real useful info like passwords or such would take a level of skill most people do no posses. The easiest thing to recover are pic and such as that is stored on a different partition then the info your trying to protect.
I am also super careful when I sell old devices. So a simple couple of extra min in recovery is worth it. I also make sure to return the device to stock before I let it go. Just to be sure.

My battery died, after recharge i couldn't access my phone... It says my screen lock pin is wrong! - I NEVER CHANGED IT
And there is no way to reset it without erasing all my data... i had no backups and my engagements photos were there...
'Find my phone' stopped working after the restart (whats the point of it? why does 'find my phone' isn't auto-running and connecting to google? it means that anybody can steal the phone and just restart, wipe it, and use it? this is crazy)
Is there anything that can be done to get my data back?

Not backing up your data, then panicking when things go wrong. Unfortunately, an all too common story I've seen on these forums. If the data is important to you, back it up. Don't want to sound overly harsh, but expecting these devices to be foolproof, it not a reasonable expectation. Maybe you just had this engagement event quite recently, and haven't had a chance to backup. But otherwise (as is the story for most folks) no backup plans or habits exist, which you now see is not a good idea.
It doesn't look good. They intentionally prevent data from being retrieved without the password, by design. I know that part is not your fault, it seems some error or corruption has resulted in your password being changed unintentionally.
If you previously modded/rooted the phone, and have TWRP installed there is a small chance (at least worth trying) that you can boot into TWRP and mount storage. But that will likely also prompt you for the passcode and give you the same error/problem. On a stock device (never modified), you have little or no means of retrieving the data.
Your best hope is probably to consider whether you had some cloud backup apps setup, that you might not be thinking about regularly (and may have forgotten about). Example, if you ever used the Google Photos app (not a default app on this phone from what I recall, but maybe you installed it at some point?), it will backup your photos to the cloud, with very little action on your part. You can then still access those photos from a computer or other device, once logged onto your Google account. Maybe only a slim chance of something like that having happened, but you don't have many options at this point.

Really isn't going to happen ever. I've seen folks complain about type of thing happening on various devices for years. Never seen any type of "bypass" technique.

These unlocking softwares? Such as dr.fone can unlock Samsung phones... with enough time they will be able to do that to oneplus maybe?
Is there anything special in Oneplus design that will prevent future unlocking?

such things won't happen.. You just cant access the data when the BL it locked, sorry for that. Just make some backups the next time

From what I can tell, that app requires root, and the reviews are pretty negative.
Can you try enter many time wrong pin and then go to forget password/pin? If you make this you can log with your Google accaunt

Lots of personal and financial info on these devices, that thieves will try to steal. That is why the data is inaccessible if you don't have the password. That may not apply to you, but it definitely happens.
