So I just switched from my Verizon Note 4 running Android v6.x to Samsung S8+ running Android 7.x
I am syncing all my contacts using Gmail contacts. I have also tried attaching a local photo to each contact and no luck there either.
On my Note 4, 1/2 the phone would have the contact photo (see attached).
Does the S8 or Android 7 have the ability to make the photo larger when someone calls in or an outgoing call?

I'd like the same
With my S7 Edge I was able to find some oldеr InCallUI.apk and it was doing the job. Although it wasn't working very well with some of the notification bar icons being invisible wile on a call (as they were white color too). But it was worth using it and it was perfectly what I/you wanted.
I hope that someone will make a mod for that for the S8 and I am sure many would love to use it.
Ive been trying various full screen photo ID apps from the Play Store today and none of them seem to work right with the S8
is the phone app in Samsung Note 8 the same?

It's been a while since its release and I am certain that you (all of you) are as fed up as I am about the non existence of a true SMS app for this tablet. Yes, Google+ and Hangout and some obscure other providers give you limited SMS ability and What'sApp doesn't work but Tango ... etc.
Anyone have a TRUE SMS app for this tablet, one that doesn't require your buds to sign up for a Social App or the likes. Remember *Handscent*? I use it on my Note 3 and it works PHantastique !!!
There must be something out there that works.
I used text+gold for awhile. It was pretty good

Text+ is another example for a restricted platform. Looking for a true cross platform SMS app though.

What about Go SMS Pro it's decent

Decent but NOT a cross platform SMS app.

I use talkatone. I make unlimited phone calls and text with my Google voice number and I've had no problems on my iPad mini LTE and galaxy note 8.0

It's NOT cross platform. If someone doesn't have TalkaTone, they won't get your SMS. Also, have you tried to text an international number? Don't waste your time. Doesn't work. There's got to be something better.

What are you talking about? None of the people I text even know or use talkatone and I send or receive texts to them just fine. when my mom had to go to the Philippines I set up her phone so she can make free phone calls and texts over WiFi with a local number from California, no problems there. But hey I must me imagining things if I've been doing this for the past 1 1\2 years.
So instead of complaining of my ignorance, illuminate me and trek me how it's done...Please.

I like the AT&T Messages app. Syncs with my GS4 and sends SMS over wifi on my Note 8.
Interesting. The AT&T message app wasn't preloaded - believe it or not. Furthermore it states "not compatible" when I tried to download it.
Weird. What's wrong with the device...?

Textra SMS
I've used Google Voice, Voice+ (From Cyanogenmod) and Textra. This only works on Cyanogenmod. For wifi only variants the telephony app requires modding.

Hi,
A friend, with an older version of Galaxy Note, can Show only contacts with phone number on his contact list.
It's seem to be impossible with my S6... Is it possible to add the trick? Or maybe I Missed something.
Thanks for your answer (and sorry for my english...)
It's hard to believe, but it is not an option on the S6. My old Galaxy Note 3 could do it, but not my newer S6.... It's a pain in the butt to see every Facebook friend in my contacts, instead of just those who I merged with my personal contacts with listed phone numbers. Plus every email address, of every person I've emailed without phone numbers listed. Way to go Samsung....
Ow f*ck, you're kidding me, right... Is there no solution for this ?
My carkit is useless now because I have to go through a sh*tload of contacts to whom I have ever mailed (so without any phone number whatsoever).
It really makes my carkit unusable now

Doesn't exist on Galaxy S6
It's there for me with back-to-n0t3 rom. My s6 was with the stock firmware only for a month or so and I didn't noticed dialer app adopted that annoying lollipop missing feature. I guess if it's important for you you will have to change the dialer or the rom.
I currently use Sony Smartwatch 3 and Im planning to buy the Gear S2 and Im using moto x pure edition. Anyone got the same device with S2 paired on it? Hows your overall experience so far?
Im a bit concerned about the apps and notifications. Does it really show the notifications whenever it arrives on the phone? Im interested about the following app:
Whatsapp, Viber, Fb Messenger
I mainly use these app will it show notifications on the watch? Can I reply to these apps via watch?
Spotify
Can I press back or next & volume up and down just like I can with the Android Wear? Does it show the title of the song and the album art?
Phone Dialer
As we know Samsung is using their own dialer but in my case I have the AOSP dialer came default, if ever someone will call will I be able to swipe answer or reject from watch?
Calendar
As we know samsung has its own Calendar app, will I be notified with the Google Calendar showing the details and etc or the calendar reminder?
Textra
As we know samsung is using their own SMS app, but Im using Textra will or will the watch be able to detect that I got a message and I can read and reply via watch?
Gmail
As we know samsung is using their email app, will gmail be notified and the watch can detect that ita an email and Icam reply via watch?
I know there are other things that are not included here and if anyone can mention it please do.
Thanks!

I have a moto x pure edition as well, and haven't had any issues with notifications at all yet. Even in remote connection mode.
One thing to keep in mind, you can't put milk music on the watch since you don't have a Samsung phone.
I installed the Verizon messaging+ application and love all the settings and options that it has. I am having an issue with sending videos. Won't send them at all. It also automatically crops them to a size that is compatible with cartier,1mb.
Sending pictures seems spotty as well. They spotify end sometimes but videos won't send at all. Plain sms texting seems fine. Just mms having an issue.
I tried application because it stated it send mms messages over wifi. Something like imessage.
The other popular replacement sms app textra, I don't believe has that.
I am on an AT&T s7 edge and installed1 Verizon messages+ from playstore.
Anyone have any experience with application?1

Contacting Verizon they said it's just for Verizon carrier customers.
Blaaaa
Now back to looking for better replacements with popup notifications n video editing before sending.

..
Yaata and AwSMS send MMS over wifi, at least for T-Mobile. Google Messenger does as well.
Not sure if you're trying to get around the 1MB limit carriers have set for MMS, but if you are, don't bother. It's not going to happen.
Even if sent over wifi there will still be compression?
Yes coming from an iPhone with imessage family could enjoy hires pictures and videos. All that went away when I switched to android.
It would be too much to have them all install something else like hangouts when they been using default messaging applications for years and years.
My only option is sharing link from Google photos but I will have to share my login credentials with everyone or have them all setup an account.
Biggest downfall of Android, not having a unified video calling or sms/mms platform.

WhatsApp is quite good for this in my pov. I also quit ios for the s7edge and I have some trouble with my formers imessage groups.

Apple *might* bring iMessage on Android, in order to get a larger user base, in the meanwhile there are some workarounds, like this (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mdr.sms_integration_for_messages). It does syncronize with Mac only, though. iMessage Chat (you can get apk via google) works - or worked - fully, but I never tried it
Thanks for the info guys.
I am now trying textra. Any users of that? Seems to be a very popular option. So far working good but I just don't see option to send a video from textra. I can send pictures, contacts, gifs, etc but no videos.
I can only go into gallery, select video and send to textra from there.
I must be missing something.
AnThOnY- S7 Edge
Textra was working pretty good. I just had some freezes here n there. Especially when forwarding things using textra.

I just downloaded textra and I like it a lot!!
give Handcent Next SMS a try then make sure you enable MMS+

I was using Textra but found that it has a problem with group messages, especially if someone in the group is an iPhone user.

I don't ever send group messages lol.
Hello,
I've been using the watch and I'm pretty satisfied with the experience but I am looking at expanding the user experience without my phone next to me. I have LTE watch. For example I can easily send text messages but most of the people are using FB Messenger or whatsapp- is there any way to send messages from watch on those two apps? I can only reply if I get the message but cannot start the conversaton. Thank you
Yep. This the problem which I also looked into.
There are only apps ( more/less smart) like "Informer" which work over notifications.
Catch is that there is no native Whatsapp app for Wear OS.
Untill someone make native Wear OS whatsapp client - situation will not change
Basically it should not be so hard. It can work somehow like Whatsapp client for desktop ( Windows ). An app like that i got for Tizen on Galaxy Watch
I use Samsung messages, but for some reason it does not display the Sender's name, only the number. I already have a number both in the international format and in the local, all the same, only a phone number. Anyone else?
you can sideload the app but whatsapp atm can't login twice
