Package Disabler Pro? - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Has anyone tried using Package Disabler Pro on the S8 yet? Before I load it up and give it a shot, I want to make sure there haven't been any major issues. Most of this bloat can't be disabled unfortunately.

Why don't you try it out and let us know. =)

I've used it and it worked pretty well. You have to be careful what you disable though.
If you disable all the Bixby processes for example, the side button becomes a useless when you press it. I also learned that if you disabled the Samsung Contacts app it takes the dialer away with it as well.
Was a bunch of trial and error but it does work.

I used the 'Disable all Bloatware' option and so far no issues. But it has only been a couple of hours and I haven't tested everything of course. I did remap the Bixby button first, not sure if it matters.

Still works, I just did it on my Exynos SM-G955F and this thread mentions it working on a Verizon version: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/fyi-remapping-disabling-bixby-4-19-t3592195

Never used package disabler before where can I get it also any precautions when disabling apps?

It is on Play Store. Disabling is trail and error, you can always enable packages again if you run in to issues.

Bixby is not as integrated into the phone as Samsung would like you to believe. It's pretty much 5 processes as far as I saw in Package Disabler. 3 Bixby processes and 2 voice processes; after if you disable pressing the Bixby button results in nothing happening.
Bixby is so half baked; if you turn off the Bixby Home page on the main screen and try using the button, it takes multiple presses before it does anything (It just launches into Bixby Home). Funny thing is that Bixby Home seems to be constantly killed by the RAM management on the S8+.

I like your tone of voice, this is totally acceptable behavior. I commend you on your discovery, your attitude is worthy of the most lavish applause. LinS123, you have done the human race an honorable service, there is hope for us yet from those dreaded 'droids'. Please welcome my gratitude. Thank you OH SO MUCH! Uh... ok. Did I offend you somehow? If so, sorry. I'm really tone deaf when it comes to reading comments on the internet.
On a side note. If anyone has disabled Knox and its related processes; does it do anything to impact the daily usage of the phone? I was a bit hesitant to disable those.

I originally had EZ Disabler Pro, but it seems the dev has gone silent and the license activation does not work. Don't bother with it.

I disabled a few things...Not much just like Samsung email, internet, pay (can't use it here) as well as the preinstaled Microsoft apps I don't use. No issues so far.

[XPosed Mod] HiGoogle - "Hi Galaxy" phrase opens Google Now instead of S-Voice
I present to you: my first ever XPosed Mod HiGoogle!
It's really my first original android app. The first one I didn't follow some sort of tutorial to make anyways. It opens Google Now natively when you say "Hi Galaxy" instead of the crappy S-Voice app. It took me forever to get this done, but in the end I learned a ton about how both Android and XPosed work. :good: So w00t for me, :good: chalk that one up as a personal accomplishment.
Anyways, it still needs S-Voice to run. S-Voice is what controls the always listening feature of the phone. in the future I plan on changing that, and perhaps changing the trigger phrase as well (fingers crossed!) So while we can't get rid of S-Voice yet, this removes the need to use a middle-man app like tasker to open it, which in the end, makes things a hair faster (and $6 cheaper.) I think we can all agree that faster is better.
So while it's not the perfect solution yet, it's a move in the right direction and hopefully more will come of it.
This has only been tested on 2 Notes so far, a T-Mo and a VZW, but it should work on any Samsung with 'Hi Galaxy" always listening support. I'm personally on version 11.2.2.0 of S-Voice but I'm not sure if that matters. Report any issues or and I will try to deal with them as fast as I can.
It's not my fault if you break stuff.

No, currently it just opens Google Now over SVoice, as SVoice is what controls the service that listens for commands. I'll look into that though it's a good idea, I may be able to kill the app but leave the service running.
oh so sad so so sad... i thougth you are a magician and managed to change the Voice recognition phrase...The developer Skilllevel for that is like getting knox from 0x1 to 0x0....from what i've heard
There are already apps for your purposes. I use S for Switch Voice
But thank you very much for your developing and sharing. :good:
Instead you maybe could try to get the "OK Google" command working for German and every other language. Because when google fails with recognition you have to grab your phone and tap on the mic button or wait until the screen shuts down. It is only possible when Google now language is english. This is something which really annoyes...

That all depends. I found some type of file that looks like it might be some kind of a raw audio or a wav file possibly. I'm digging deeper into Samsung's code whenever I have time trying to understand what's going on. I'm gonna have to keep studying before I can get to that point, but I think that will be part of the natural progression of the updates to this app. Has Chainfire done any work on this?

No not that i've heard of. Today i recognized that the "Google Now launcher" works with "OK Google" in german. So maybe you can find something when making a code comparison to use the OK Google command no matter how your phone and or googles now language is...

As of now, overhead.
This mod will rid you of one extra service running on your phone compared to those other apps. If all you want is Google Now instead of S-Voice then this is probably the better solution. If you want a bunch more options, use one of those other apps. I have more plans for the future but I was super excited to release my first contribution to the community :victory:
I think is a great idea. I for one have been using an app called S for Switch Voice that overrides SVoice and launches Google Now. It works great and dont have any problems and doesn't cause much or at the very least battery drain. But im willing to try this.

What are you looking forward to..

On the 6.0 update?
For me...
1. Faster fingerprint reader/unlock animation
2. New keyboard layout
3. Finally having an option to switch to pin code for alternative option if fingerprint isnt working
4. Adjustments on touchwiz
5. Google now on tap
6. New emojis
7.Faster phone ?? (hopefully)
Is speed an issue? My Note5 is smooth and quick. *shrug* Now on Tap is actually pretty cool. I don't use a protective lock screen so I don't know about that. I'd like to be able to activate Samsung Pay with a swipe up from the S-View window, but that won't happen.

Speed is definitely not an issue lol, but there are somethings that need a speed improvement.. such as the fingerprint reader. I just hope i dont see any lag. Im assuming you use Find my mobile? if you dont use a protective lock screen. And i dont use samsung pay or NFC payment for that matter, but i understand your struggle haha.
I could root my device, but i choose not to. Reason being is it will possibly lose value once Knox has been tripped.

I do use Find my Mobile but I also use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rickclephas.fingersecurity to lock certain apps. It only locks those apps when I am not connected to my WiFi or my cars Bluetooth. Maybe with the new fingerprint API I'll lock the whole phone up.
I also noticed when watching marshmallow beta for s6/s6 edge is that the capacitive buttons dont light up when touching the screen... which is a smart move from samsung. It saves battery and it makes sense. It only lights up when pressing them or when pressing the home button.

Actually it makes no sense, whatsoever. The entire point of the capacitive buttons lighting up when you touch the screen is so you can see them in the dark in order to press them.. lighting up when you touch them makes zero sense, why would I need them to do THAT?

They didn't light up because it was a Beta and the rooted kernel broke it even more on some devices, but made them work better on other devices. There's also mods you can use to just turn them off if you don't like them. Xposed. Or just go into the settings!!!
Also, just because you don't like them being on, doesn't mean that they are pointless. Tests have also been done to see just how much battery life is affected by Capacitive buttons and you can't even tell how much they use.
By the way, a lot of people like myself, work in dark places and have to use our phones. Think about that for a minute.:good:
The only thing I'm looking forward to is a phone that doesn't get an update and have it cause the phone to be worse than before. Right now my stock Note 5 works just fine.

Bixby Voice update

Has anyone else gotten it and tried it out?
It's actually pretty great. It's a lot more conversational style than Google assistant. I've used it quite a few times to send texts etc and it dictates very well!!
Haven't tested out the voice unlock, I use fingerprint too much...
Did mine too, been playing with it the past couple hours... Not sure if I'll keep using it, but I'll give it a week and see? I like Google Assistant better, so far, but I like being able to turn on bluetooth and wifi with just saying. But, Bixby won't use my 3rd party music player, email, or SMS (text) app....So, that's useless for me.
Like I said, I'll give it a week and see?? It also depends on the battery usage too.
Oh yeah, didn't think about 3rd party stuff. That sucks.
I like the rewards points for doing stuff with it. Now they're giving points as Samsung pay points

Sleeping Apps

Do you guys sleep apps in the device optimizer? I just found it the other day, seems like a good thing, probably the best we can get till we can get root
I have all of my apps that I don't need notifications from set to Always Sleep. Seems to help the battery some.
If you are looking to disable apps or block them I recommend BK Disabler. No root needed.
Also root is available, just be careful because it has ALOT of set backs. In my opinion not worth it right now.

It aggregates all of you data, ties it to you phone number and your AT&T account. It's quite a bit more invasive than Google's anonymously collected data.
Also it crush battery and uses about 20 - 200 MB of data a month.
Super shady.

No battery drain at all! Now if you left your phone with the edge lighting going for a "long" time....not sure. But as it is I have no battery drain at all from this app.

Good stuff. Does Google assistant work when you say "ok google"? It's a problem with a lot of apks like NotifyBuddy etc, so looking for an alternative.

Sorry but I don't ever talk to my phone...seems silly to me... unless I am driving and "need" to reply to a text, then Textra with Gboard does it for me.

Fair enough. I find it extremely handy when on the go.

I have been using this for several weeks on 10 and I think it works great. It is a little confusing on the setup, but not too bad.

Edit: Resolved - For over 10 years, I have been using the BACK button to close activities. All of them. When I want to return to the launcher, I just press BACK from withing the given app until I get 'back' to the launcher. Why wouldn't I do this? It's how you close an app. Well, I hit the HOME button instead of using BACK to exit the app gracefully like I do for all other apps I run.. and.. AOE works. I don't get it. I'm not much of an Android developer, and I hate everything Google has done to Android in the last 5 years, but what gives here? I assume (and I can see) that the backgroud service still runs after the activity closes, so why would I want to leave the activity open and return to the launcher without gracefully closing the current activity? Anyway.. if I leave the activity open, it seems to work as expected, but not if I close the activity. Go figure.

I am using Resurrection Remix 8.6.7 on OnePlus 7 Pro. I've tried Plus Beat, True Edge, and now Always On Edge. I can't get any of them to work. Plus Beat came the closest by repeatedly flashing the lock screen, but I really want to use AOE and I would like to see the edge 'horizon' lights. I've given AOE every permission and accessibility service I know how to, and it still does not work.
Is it possible to use AOE on One Plus 7 Pro with Resurrection Remix 8.6.7 (Android Q10 based, and goes on top of OOS 10.3.8)?
