[XPosed Mod] HiGoogle - "Hi Galaxy" phrase opens Google Now instead of S-Voice - Galaxy Note 3 Themes and Apps

[XPosed Mod] HiGoogle - "Hi Galaxy" phrase opens Google Now instead of S-Voice
I present to you: my first ever XPosed Mod HiGoogle!
It's really my first original android app. The first one I didn't follow some sort of tutorial to make anyways. It opens Google Now natively when you say "Hi Galaxy" instead of the crappy S-Voice app. It took me forever to get this done, but in the end I learned a ton about how both Android and XPosed work. :good: So w00t for me, :good: chalk that one up as a personal accomplishment.
Anyways, it still needs S-Voice to run. S-Voice is what controls the always listening feature of the phone. in the future I plan on changing that, and perhaps changing the trigger phrase as well (fingers crossed!) So while we can't get rid of S-Voice yet, this removes the need to use a middle-man app like tasker to open it, which in the end, makes things a hair faster (and $6 cheaper.) I think we can all agree that faster is better.
So while it's not the perfect solution yet, it's a move in the right direction and hopefully more will come of it.
This has only been tested on 2 Notes so far, a T-Mo and a VZW, but it should work on any Samsung with 'Hi Galaxy" always listening support. I'm personally on version 11.2.2.0 of S-Voice but I'm not sure if that matters. Report any issues or and I will try to deal with them as fast as I can.
It's not my fault if you break stuff.
:good: <------ Hit my donate button and buy me a bud if you like it!:good:
Here's the sauce: https://github.com/Bots/HiGoogle

Does this close s-voice when it opens, then open voice search?

No, currently it just opens Google Now over SVoice, as SVoice is what controls the service that listens for commands. I'll look into that though it's a good idea, I may be able to kill the app but leave the service running.

oh so sad so so sad... i thougth you are a magician and managed to change the Voice recognition phrase...The developer Skilllevel for that is like getting knox from 0x1 to 0x0....from what i've heard
There are already apps for your purposes. I use S for Switch Voice
But thank you very much for your developing and sharing. :good:
Instead you maybe could try to get the "OK Google" command working for German and every other language. Because when google fails with recognition you have to grab your phone and tap on the mic button or wait until the screen shuts down. It is only possible when Google now language is english. This is something which really annoyes...
cheers

And do you think it is possible to change the wake up command from "Hi Galaxy" to anything we want too? I heard it's nearly impossible...but chainfire isn't the only magician around here...

That all depends. I found some type of file that looks like it might be some kind of a raw audio or a wav file possibly. I'm digging deeper into Samsung's code whenever I have time trying to understand what's going on. I'm gonna have to keep studying before I can get to that point, but I think that will be part of the natural progression of the updates to this app. Has Chainfire done any work on this?

No not that i've heard of. Today i recognized that the "Google Now launcher" works with "OK Google" in german. So maybe you can find something when making a code comparison to use the OK Google command no matter how your phone and or googles now language is...

How is this any better than one of those apps that does the same thing?

As of now, overhead.
This mod will rid you of one extra service running on your phone compared to those other apps. If all you want is Google Now instead of S-Voice then this is probably the better solution. If you want a bunch more options, use one of those other apps. I have more plans for the future but I was super excited to release my first contribution to the community :victory:

I think is a great idea. I for one have been using an app called S for Switch Voice that overrides SVoice and launches Google Now. It works great and dont have any problems and doesn't cause much or at the very least battery drain. But im willing to try this.

I am the Senior QA Engineer at Swype. A voice-input button is a sorely missing feature for us too. We are looking at what it would take for us to integrate a feature like that, but we don't have any time frame for when that might happen yet. If you would like to see that feature developed more quickly, please give us feedback on the Swype Forums.

I dont know if my opinion will matter, but im typing in landscape with very minimal mistakes, without even having to Swype! Im gonna go off a limb here and say this is definetly better the stock keyboard.
The bad thing is though, it doesn't have auto correction with just normally typing.. (big downer) but the accuracy is so good it can kinda be rarely needed. I believe that still should have been an inclusion.. Though.
Edit: yes it does looked in settings.. Lol

[app] HiddenMenus

hi.
i've just published my first android app in the market: HiddenMenus.
well, it is actually one of the simplest application ever, it lists some hidden tasks/activities like "checkin" (*#*#2432546#*#*) and "info" (*#*#4636#*#*), extremely useful for gingerbread upcoming ota!
since i am a nexus one owner, i just know its codes. feel free to suggest other devices shortcuts.
for any bugs or "force close" it is better a useful reply here rather than a negative comment on the market.
[update] WARNING: some entry might not work depending on the device/rom
thanks to all.
Nice idea!

Is there a hack to make google now work when screen is off?

hi, I read that google now ("ok google") only activates when the screen is on. I was wondering if theres a hack or setting somewhere where you can activate it with the screen off? I mostly want this for hands-free use in the car, so I can avoid having to touch the phone while driving (big no no).
also, is there a site somewhere explaining all the features of what you can say/ask google now? or even a link with comparisons between siri and google now, and what google now cant do that siri does? I ask this cuz ill be coming from iPhone.
thanks.
I think that would really drain the battery - if possible!
However, here is a collection on some of the commands you can ask google now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961636
I'm really surprised how great it works! And i live in Denmark, where i can't even take full use of everything
samsung has had this with s-voice. and i think motorola enabled google now to do this on the motox but i'm not sure. yes it drains battery, but how much? depends on the cpu and driver and the software involved..... i don't have my nexus yet so i can't say "how" to do this but i would expect it to be an eventual custom feature if not a future update if it's not already in a setting somewhere.

Everything I've read has claimed that the Nexus 5 should handle this as well as MotoX since it has the Snapdragon 800. Have we ever gotten an official answer on why this won't work?

hey thanks for the link. battery drain wouldn't be too much of an issue, as usually I would just use it while the device is being charged in my car, but it would be nice to use sometimes without as well, and while leaving the screen on would be nice, a slow charging car charger, is going to charge faster with the screen off, as that's usually the most power hungry lol. so it would be nice to have the voice activation at will while using.
If some of the launcher/search code was open source, I'd imagine this would be quite easy to do.
Pretty sure I read somewhere that the 'always listening' (for "OK Google" command) requires some hardware functionality. So no, it would not be possible like it is on the Moto X.

Yes. But from what I understand the snapdragon 800 has that hardware built in.

Video is about 1/2 way down on the right. Processor is capable.
Lets see if I can't clear things up. If you want your phone to be always listening, you need hardware support for it unless you want your phone to die in a matter of hours. If you are okay with this , check out this app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.RSen.OpenMic.Pheonix It also lets you configure things like only when charging or just when the screen is on to save some battery, and its actually a very nice app overall. Worth checking out.
The Moto x has a special custom chip set that allows for this always listening. Any attempt to port that feature from the Moto x would fail, as the Nexus 5 doesn't have the same chip set. The nexus 5 however, does have hardware that allows for always listening, its part of the Snapdragon 800 SOC that powers this phone, along with the Note 3 and LG G2.
But getting the feature to actually work on our phones, even with the hardware, is by no means an easy task. Read the comments on this post if you want to get an idea for what this entails. https://plus.google.com/112424215551484520138/posts/AznwFxbBapJ
So is it possible? Yes. But it is not something that is gonna be a quick easy port of small modification of an existing app, it would take some real serious work form (maybe a team even of) good Dev's to make this function.
Sorry if its not the news you wanted to hear.

If you're plugged in/wireless charging Google Now Voice commands work with the screen off.
Settings>Language & Input > Voice Input> Enhanced Google services> "OK Google" Detection>From any screen> enabled
"responds to your voice. Works when the screen is on or the device is charging."
make sure the next option "personal results" is also enabled if you want Google Now to be able to do anything
Try this app, Open Mic+. It'll do the job.

It's strange for me that this is news because I've been using custom romsnfor so long that had this implementated. It's a good feature
I think the idle drain will be about the higher than without it (this is what I have noticed) but it's not massive so definitely a recent trade off if you like the service. I have a few Google homes and they all pick up my voice but then it knows from which device to reply from based on what's nearest to you.
I've used this mainly for turning on Bluetooth and setting navigation whilst driving. Also asking questions whilst driving that I want the answer to.

I doubt if custom roms would make any difference. I have used oneplus 1 and op3 but none of the custom roms for these devices had this feature.. Interesting point you made about multiple Google homes devices and the nearest one reverts back.. Didn't know this..
