This is a trend I'm not very fond of and I was interested to know what everyone else thinks. Would you consider yourself more or less likely to buy a phone with a rounded display like the S8 and G6?
Personally I have a couple of problems with this design decision on this phone in particular (from what I can see). First, it looks like a gimmick you'll get sick of in a week at most. Second, the display curve is different from the curve of the phone itself and that irritates me. Third, I prefer watching videos without those rounded corners.
But I'm interested to see what others think about it and I'm willing to change my mind, please make your argument below.
I think the rounded screen matches the outside rounded corners perfectly, i like the way it looks.
From what both lg and Samsung has said it also helps with screen strength. Dropping your phone on a rounded corner will cause less damage to the actual screen.

Aren't AMOLED screens glued to the glass? If the glass breaks I don't think you can salvage the display but they've probably changed that. Anyway, from a purely design perspective, what do you think of it?

LG's display has truly rounded corners. Samsung's is square with the colored (black) overly creating a rounded corner affect. Reviewers have complained about LG's approach because it leaves visible jaggies in the corners.

Well that solves my problem then. If its an overlay then there will be a way to disable it in the settings or with root or with a custom rom or Xposed

Issue?
Does anybody suffer this issue? The corners of the display exhibit awkwardly. When i know it is there then it is unable to look away. :crying:

The curved corners of the s8's display is jaggy just like the lg g6's display. You will notice it really easy in real life.
The display looks rounded from the ifixit teardown..

The g6 looks 100x worse, you're seeing individual pixels, there's no anti aliasing.

Is the actual lens of your front-facing camera completely centered in the black circle? Mine is off to the side.
mine also was gonna ask the same thing mine is to the right
mine as well
Mine is off to the right of the middle. I also noticed I have to hold the phone at an angle to center my face on the screen. Anyone else notice that as well?
Mines off the the right as well. I did notice this on the demo phones at T-Mobile. I think it's just a production thing? Don't let it get to you.
Yay mine is centered perfectly, I win. Woot woot!!!
Seriously though, my camera is centered.
Mine's off-centered in the circle. Additionally I have to hold my phone tilted down and to the left to center my face. Thinking about getting it exchanged.
Just in case there weren't already enough confirmations of this, mine is off the to the side as well.
mine is off a bit too. I have to hold the phone at a bit of an angle in order for my face to be centered. Visually, the camera is shifted a CH to the right. Not a big deal for me.
I did call T-Mobile for a different issue. The CS rep asked how my phone was and I mentioned the camera issue. He says there wasn't anything in the system about build issues with the camera angle but he did make a note of it.
Centered on mine, good batch in my case
Mine is centered and my ugly mug displays right in the middle of this awesome phone.
Mine is off also but at least i got the high quality display lol...

so if you have a centered camera you have the bad display but if you have off centered camera its the good display? has anyone tested this theory yet? i would much rather have the better display if thats the case.

No, I have off centered camera and bad display.
Mine seems fine to me. Maybe off by a hair but it works perfectly and that is all I care about.

Just got my Note 3 and I'm loving it. However, I recently noticed upon closer examination of my screen that there is a permanent smudge mark that ceases to go away. It only appears when there is a large build-up of normal smudges or when I breathe on the screen.
Here is what it looks like:

Anyone else have this issue? To check, just breathe onto the screen creating that fog-like cover.
From what I have gathered, it is "oleophobic screen coating" wearing off but I have had my Note 3 for four days so it has not gotten that much usage.
I don't have that problem. Does this only happen when you have smudges or breathe on it? If so then I would suggest a screen protector either tempered or film.

Once I wipe the screen of all smudges, it goes away. But as soon as there are more smudges it becomes visible.
Is it worth exchanging?
If you are within you return policy date then yes I would. I'm the type of person if I knew it was there even though I don't see it it would bother me lol.

Mine seems OK, I'd suggest bringing it back also. If it is the coating of the screen vanishing this fast then that's a build issue. - could also cause weaknesses to the screen any time further down the line.

I have the exact same issue. My smudge is alot bigger. Its horizontal a little above center of the screen and about an inch long. It drives me crazy. I can wipe my screen completely smudge free and if I breath on it, there it is! It is starting to exceed the limits of my OCD medication!! :banghead:
Edit: Mine was like this since day one and noticed it about 10 minutes after purchase.

I have never seen anything like that before. If that was my phone i would be seeking a replacement ASAP!!!!
i have the exact same issue here, except the location, which makes it interessting:
mine is exact over the place of the indicator LED, and goes up to the top in a "U" form!
and i do not know why, but i did not encountered it before. could the light (and the minimal
temperature) from the led has something to do with this?
Probably is the coating worn off. I had something similar on my old phone. I ended up polishing the entire screen with a little bit of white toothpaste to remove coating elsewhere and give it a better appearance.
Wow I didn't think there we some many cases like this. What the hell is Samsung doing to these screens?
Reading this thread. .. It's just unbelievable that you guys haven't gone and got a replacement. No way should you be having any of these issues on an expensive flagship phone. Take it back is all I'm going to say. I haven't got it. ... If I breath on it the fog disappears Just as Fast as it came. ..

I would avoid doing so. I've yet to hear from a single person who had succesfully done so and didn't have some type of issue afterwards. Either the screen sticks out a bit and moves due to double sided tape used, or the LCD or some other component breaks when using the special resin/glue needed to make it fit correctly, back light bleeding through spots, etc. etc.
It's basically a nightmare and the only practical way to replace the glass is to replace the whole LCD assembly. Not something I would do for scratches.
Just get a screen protector (maybe glass) and call it a day.

It smees the in the right down corner the screen isnt in line with the frame for some mm.
I saw around 5-6 other phones with the same exact problem.
Its not a big deal since isnt very noticable but when u will compare the right and left corner u will notice...
I have the same "issue". Dammit, why did I read, now I'm gonna know it's there.

Howdy
Ukrainian user here. Black Galaxy S6, assembled in Vietnam. The screen is affected by this issue in both: upper and lower right corners (lower right more).
Since this is a somewhat common issue now, I would suggest it is a manufacturing flaw and thus, nothing to be concerned over. It's not like Samsung will hand you over a replacement device because of it (it doesn't affect functionality a slight bit). Plus there's lots of people having much more significant issues with their devices.
Black 128 vzw has it

It smees there alot of flaws on the s6, u have to be lucky to dont have any issue at all.
Those folks who has s6 without any problem must be lucky...
Other people, see this, vote..
Had a 32 gig black, made in Vietnam. No issue. Changed my mind and got a 64 gig. Also Vietnam. Now has this issue. Doesn't really matter to me since I have a case that covers it, but it kinda sucks that it's there.
Had this issue on a warranty replacement I received. I saw it right away. Well, more like I felt the frame and screen not being the same
That's one huge gap wow.
Sent from my Galaxy S6 ~
Can we fix this by gently pushing the screen with suction cup on the corner ?
What do you think.
Its the screen pushed down more on the corner than it need to be, or the frame isnt good?
Also check every other corner on the front and back as well, i have seen few phones with this flaw on the back ...
its not a "issue" its a design feature, the top and bottom of the metal bezels are raised up to protect the screen from drops, placing it upside down etc, you will notice that it rises up smoothly from the center of the bezel on the side to the top/bottom, its the same for the back

Not really, this is only on the right bottom egde...
And that corner of the screen seems to be little under the frame in the corner...
for some milimetar, if u are seeing it form the side its very noticable when comparing the two sides..
I'm pretty sure that's the design of the phone, especially since it's on pretty much every phone. Looking at it closely it seems to create an ever so slight gap between the glass of the phone and any flat surface you might set it on. Plus the top and the bottom of the phone's frame is thicker than the sides

Replace the whole phone. At least you could use the old one maybe for some parts in the future.
Unfortunately there's no way to repair a AMOLED display as it is comprised of thousands of semiconductors in its matrix that controls the individual OLEDs. The touch screen circuitry was also damaged.

This phone won't survive without a good case. Not much help now, but bear that in mind if you replace it or haven't damaged it yet. With no case they are harder to hold too... slippery fish.
There's almost zero bezel... and the only thing they do more than corner hit when dropped is face plant on the display side. The spen corner seems to take more hits than the other corners too.
