Honor 8 tethering on Straight Talk - Honor 8 ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Develop

I have seen quite a few questions about this in the other threads so I though I would go ahead and post my solution.
This was tested on my FRD-L04 running the stock *b162 firmware, rooted with magisk v11.1, and using the $40 straight talk "unlimited" plan. I cannot promise or guarantee that this method will work with any other model or firmware.
First, If you are using magisk, flash the module I will link to below. If you are NOT using magisk, you will have to modify your build.prop manually. You will need to add the line
"net.tethering.noprovision=true"
Second, with a root enabled file browser, you need to go into the /system/app/ folder and delete the folder named "ATTEntitle"
Reboot and tether should be working fine!

I did what u said but I don't have the ATTentitle folder and tethering is still locked.
EDIT
Are you on EMUI 5? I didn't think it was possible to install magisk on EMUI 5. Is tethering included in your Straighttalk Plan? I am on 5Gb Data+Talk+Text on L04 rooted with TWRP 3.1.0-0
Thank!

Thanks for moving this out of TWRP. What version of the OS (full vers. # and also please, the hardware model and straight talk plan)?
I've been looking at it but can only do so for Nougat via CM 14.1 code, which until someone tells me it works (Never tried it), I'm not sure it's the right place to look, but with Honor's crappy support and zero source policy, it's what we have. Also, are you rooted? Stock? Anything you can tell about the phone and it's setup would be helpful.
Thanks.

*edited original post*

Thanks for adding the details. These guys are only interested in 7.0 (Nougat). I've used "net.tethering.noprovision=true" for years and it's always worked especially back in the days before hotspot was a part of so many plans. I've got a no hotspot ATT cheap go-phone plan on my Honor 8 FRD-L04 Nougat and it has no tethering in the plan, but tethering works fine from my phone. Gotta be a combo of emui 5/Nougat-like and straight talk's policies.

Nope, no known solution yet

I have tethering working on straight talk. I am also on L04 385. What I did was root then I installed magisk, then I installed the tethering magisk module. It works perfectly.

I am on b380 now with magisk. I can come firm that the tethering magisk module works!

For all the folks that like me cannot update to B385 yet.

I am using the hybrid kernel modified boot quoted above and it does indeed have proper loop support and therefore magisk compatible.
Also fixed a cpl of the other bugs associated with B360 such as the ok Google listening microphone bug that was present when the sound recorder, camera, or another app tried to use the audio recorder

[APP]4.0+ ThreeInTouch[BETA]

I saw this posted somewhere and thought it would be useful for those on the 3 network in the UK with poor reception at home.
marin said:
You got a poor signal at home on the THREE Network?
Spoken to THREE yesterday (I'm on the 3,2,1 pay as you go plan) and told them about the poor signal at home and asked them about "HOME SIGNAL", they informed me that this is only available to people "on contract".
They offered me an APP (Which is still in the BETA stage), called "THREE IN TOUCH", which allows you to call and send and receive texts over a wi-fi connection ) [using your phone number]. (They send you a text with the appropriate link).
They informed me that whilst this is in BETA stage, calls and texts are FREE, yes free. The APP goes live on the 27th July 2014. After this date, calls and texts will be charged at standard rates (i.e. 3p / min, 2p / text).
So just to let all the THREE pay as you go people know about this, thought I'd share.

I didn't realise that an activation was needed. I'll add that to the first post. Thank you.

You may have got "Three In Touch" working with Rootcloak by now but, just in case you haven't then I confirm that several of us have found that the released version does work with RootCloak. The thing to do is to ensure "Three In Touch" is not installed and started BEFORE you manualy add the app to RootCloak. If you had installed it and tried to run it on a rooted phone BEFORE installing RootCloak then completely uninstall it, install it once again, make sure the app is added to RootCloak then fire it up. It should now work.

Prior to this update you couldn't even access the APN Settings through ##3282#...Edit. You could only see it in the View option. Now, its back in Edit but you can't do anything with it as its greyed out. This is a good sign that hopefully Sprint will give us the option to edit our APN Settings again.
Pretty sure Sprint isn't going to allow you to turn on Hotspot. You'll have to do it with SQLite Editor. I've been on Samsung devices since the S3 came out. APN has never been editable. The fact it was on the Note 5 here was just an oversight.
Just for conversations sake, can anyone else confirm the size of the update? Mine said 269 not 296. Not that I'm taking it tho rooted with TWRP.
Does anyone know if this update effects my ability to flash over to another rom like MOAR 4.1 ? I am guessing it shouldnt matter if I flash to the older firmware first but I want to be sure.

Rooting on Nougat.

As we all know Samsung has started pushing the final Nougat build to users, Indians are going to get the OTA soon in the coming weeks. I want to update my phone finally & root it at the same time. Before I do that I wanted to clarify the steps I'm going to perform with you guys to avoid any mistakes. Hope this is full proof.
I'm currently on 6.0.1 SM930FD.
The attached screenshot has all the steps I'm going to perform, the only change is step 12 where ROM will change to Super su zip file.
I hope there is no modem changes? Or any sort of bootloader upgrade that needs to be performed?
Thanks for all the help people, hope this helps everyone.

Thanks. I had seen some information indicating we MIGHT get some iteration of 7.1.x before getting 8.0. Who knows when we'll get 8.0 though. It's in beta now for the S8/Note 8, but even for those phones it's still probably going to be at least a couple of months before they get 8.0. And we definitely won't get it before they do...

One minor (major) thing they left out of the change log. People are complaining on the S7 forums because they can no longer flash to U firmware. I haven't tried it, but I've also seen people have issues with rooting now because they need an updated eng_boot.
Does anyone have this firmware for download? it's not on Samfirm yet and now im stuck in a recovery loop and trying to flash the previous firmware fails due to the new bootloader. Google shows nothing.

[Guide]Kinda root Q DP1[CROSSHATCH]

Hey fellas , a few days ago i stumbled across this kernelsu or KernelAssistedSuperuser (read up on here)
since this is a kernel modification its working on q DP1 regardless of the new overlayfs .
I would be kinda carefull with this so , since there is no management of root access (like magiskmanager or supersu app) it just allows anything.
Also please be aware that even if ur rooted now u still cant mount system as read/write , so many rootapps / rootstuff is likely to not work.
Im not quite sure if this will trip SafetyNet or not
If u want to try it anyway , here is what to do.
Download the boot.img for DP1 from here or for DP2 here
Reboot ur phone into fastboot (if u dont know how , pls dont use this)
flash the new boot.img by typing "fastboot flash boot pathtodownloadedboothere" (without the "")
Reboot into Android
Profit
In case u would want to switch back to non root , just flash the boot.img of android q for 3xl like u flashed the rooted boot.img and ur back to stock

it could and it could not , it depends if the app needs /system to be writeable , for example adaway doesnt work bcs it wants to edit /system/etc/hosts , but luckypatcher for another example works fine bcs it only works with /data.
Just try and report what works
Anyone else try this yet?

Ok, so EX kernel manager works, pixel launcher mod works. I can't get titanium backup to work, it keeps searching for root. Doesn't say I'm not rooted though.

If anyone tries this on DP2, let us know if all is well.....please...
I'm assuming this has to be updated to DP2 to work....or is it universal?
