Poor call reception - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hi guys , I bought my pixel a month ago and I'm getting poor call reception , so ,I'm missing most of the incoming calls as people are getting not reachable message when they try to call me..
Can someone help me with this to identify whether the problem is on my phone or my operator network issue..?
Thank you in advance..

That is true my bro

This phone gets the worst reception I've ever gotten from any phone going all the way back to the original Nokia. If I didn't have WiFi calling it'd be totally useless.

My first Pixel got significantly better reception then my replacement one, sadly.

So, everyone got the same problem..
Is Google even aware of this issue
Can it be fixed by any modem update or something?

Here's one of the treads on their support site. https://productforums.google.com There's a lot of guessing and this fancy new technology that doesn't work well with some networks could be a cause https://www.qualcomm.com/videos/qualcomm-rf360-dynamic-antenna-matching And there's talk of has something to do with Android N as some on Nexus devices that just upgraded are having problems. I'm leaning toward cheap HTC antennas.

In my case it's gotten worse bro..During the call itself, voice reception gets stopped..
Shall I get my phone replaced? It's still under warranty (11 months more)
Or every phone has the same problem?

If you're still in the timeframe, I'd just get my money back. If not then I'd try a replacement though you'd probably get a refurbished one. I use wifi calling at home and don't have any problems when I'm out and about. But I'm on Verizon in the US so your network may give you more problems. Google has admitted to microphone issues which might be your problem so if you get a replacement I'd be demanding a new phone.

Droid 2 Global with 3G on Rogers

Here it is. Get a unlock code and it works on Rogers network, with 3G.
Just remember to set APN first.
So it is confirmed that Verizon is not messing up the 850/1900 bands outside US.
Canadian Droid lovers, you are safe.
Btw, this phone seems to have some serious reception issues. It only shows one signal bar in my house, while other phones would get full. Hope moto could fix this via a software update.

Thanks for confirming this for us. We hear in the US are still having those problems with AT&T and T-Mobile. Hopefully we will find a workaround soon.
Thanks so much. Thats what I've been searching for. BTW, where did you get the phone? Can you just go to Verizon store and buy it outright without signing any contract, not even the month by month plan?
Got the phone from a friend in the US. What he did was activate a month to month plan, and cancel it right away.
where did you get your unlock code? can you recommend a site?

Got it on ebay. Just search for "Dorid 2 Global Unlock" and there you go.
I am following yous steps! I already asked a friend of mine to get me one. Thanks for confirming it is good on Rogers. Ebay seller is a bit greedy though - 50 bucks - ouch!

Byebyebryan, how is the battery life on Rogers (I assume you switched it to GSM/WCDMA only)? People report some horrible results like 7 hours with no use.. can't be that bad...

I'm gonna say, 1 day with some use(calls, msgs, emails, and minutes on google map). So not great, but not that bad.

Why would you have to pay for an Unlock Code? Can't you just "ROOT" the phone free?

The unlock code is so you can use non-Verizon (Vodafone) SIMs. Rooting is being able to have full read / write access to the entire phone. Rooting alone will not unlock the radio to use 3rd party SIMs.

Has anyone else noticed reception issues with this phone? I was waiting and waiting and waiting for the Milestone 2 originally and then this one came out and I want it sooooo bad. I need to upgrade from this HTC Magic but I don't want to buy a phone with hardware flaws.
I tried Googling it but all I'm finding is reception problems on the Droid 2 and the Droid X. Not a lot on the D2G but it seems like the entire Droid line has people reporting reception problems.
Is it just the number of bars showing thats a problem or do you also get frequent dropped calls?
I heard from a friend that Android 2.2 includes a new Battery Manager that reduces power to the radio when you're not making or receiving a call and that's probably why the number of bars showing is low when the phone is idle and there probably isn't really a reception problem unless calls are being dropped. Can anyone confirm this?
It's a long drive from where I am in Canada to the nearest Verizon store so I was going to make purchasing it part of a road trip to visit friends in Seattle in a couple weeks if I can get confirmation that the reception problem is not hardware related.
Any confirmations or advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Reception hasn't really been an issue for me. Seems acceptable. Battery life marginal though but I had the same issue with an HTC Desire

The funny thing is, even though the phone is showing only one signal bar, I still have great call quality and 3g speed. Wired.

Thanks guys. That was the news I was hoping to hear.
I was having problems with the 3G in France. I never got more than one bar and that was in middle of Paris
Buy it on prepaid. Its $394 plus $104 of other stuff, total 537.

I just got the Droid 2 Global and have it unlocked on the Rogers network. I can't get the 3g to work. What APN settings are you using or how did you get it to work? I have input the apn settings that are being posted around the web but can't get 3g to work. Edge works however. Thanks for your help.

APN settings are same for 3G and EDGE. Are you sure you are not forcing EDGE somewhere in settings? Or maybe battery manager?
I figured out the problem. I had the phone in "gsm only" mode. When I switched back to"Global" mode in network settings I instantly got 3g and even "H". Thanks for the help anyway

What a scare thanks AT&T

So just a little while ago all my calls started failing (I had made a couple a changes to my phone last night), so I thought I had a bad flash (reception dropped from nearly full (on the indicator) H to no service). I went to my Nandroid backup only to have the same thing happening. I was starting to panic, thinking that my radio had died (I had a heat related reboot yesterday) when my wife (who has a samsung slider feature phone) asked if I was having issues making phone calls. Turns out that I currently have to put my phone into GSM only mode to make/receive calls & texts. Sadly, I can't figure out how to do the same with the wife's phone.
Moral of the story is, AT&T has network issues, don't assume that every problem has to do with a custom ROM/ modified phone.
Your right should always check with ATT first. They are doing a lot of upgrades to there network right now. I have a lot of friends saying they have reception issues right now. So if you have issues try asking a friend also on ATT in the same area if they are having problems to. I personally think ATT should post on there website affected areas or even a txt to let people know that there might be trouble with there service.

HTC one S successor and UK price!

hi
looking to purchase HTC one S. Quite keen on it but a bit concerned with battery life and home screen issue.
However any ideas re its's successor? Is HTC likely to announce another line at MWC 2013? as its only a month away, i am thinking if its worth waiting for to see if the price drops to below £200!
ta
What home screen issue?
I use one and battery life is more than enough for day and half of hard use
Not sure what your referring to in regard to home issue. My battery life improved dramatically with the use of custom roms.
But don't count on a huge price drop just because of a newer phone launch. I have yet to see them do that big of price drops here in Canada on newer launches.

I believe you're referring to the home issue in this thread. It explains various ways to ensure you get a One S without the helicoptering problem. I think it's basically any One S with a serial number starting with >SH24 is okay and won't helicopter, don't take my word on it though.
I got a ceramic black One S from T-mobile on the beginning of last month and haven't had that problem even once.
Does anyone still have the problem of the data (cellular) signal dropping out occasionally, then returning after a couple of minutes? I'm on stock 4.0.3 in Canada on Bell. Hope the coming JB update fixes it.

That sounds much more like a service area problem then a phone problem. I also experienced this issue. I installed a booster at my house. :good:

No, it happens when out too. Goes from 5 bars to an "X" and drops the call or data. Recovers after reboot or on its own after two minutes.

that's not true. I have SH26 (S4) and I had to totally block home button to be able to use phone in 2g areas. I think every ONE S is affected by this, but it depands on your mobile provider signal strength/3g coverage, that's why not all experience this. otherwise HTC would be able to fix phones sent for repair, but they can't - problem always returns.

Toronto, on Bell.
I'm not sure I've heard about a Successor coming yet.
I have no reason to upgrade, love my One S.
I love my One S too
I've got a SH24 too, but I haven't got any problems with the homebuttonbug so far. And I'm very often in areas with bad reception and nothing happens. And with the new frame it looks like new.
I've got the same phone id, but never seen this issue.

I also had problems with cellular data dropping on my One S. I live in finland and this is a common issue with this particular phone and a certain carrier. I have personally seen three One S's with this carrier and they all dropped data after using the connection for a while. Also many others have reported similar issues on a finnish forum.
What makes the problem more interesting is that it only happens in more populated areas (larger cities so maybe more traffic or better and newer networks or something...). Problems are not found from phones or networks and only "fix" seems to be changing carrier. That's what i did and have not had any problems since.
This problematic carrier roams in another carrier's network. Idk if this has something to do with the problem but this carrier is the only consumer carrier that roams here in finland and also the only one with this issue.

I've got an upgrade due. T-Mobile UK have pulled sales of the One S in the past week and are suggesting the 4G One SV in its place. Not exactly a successor though as except for the 4G the SV is a lower spec phone. I was offered the SV for free with a £26 3G contract.

I've got the signal drop issue with 2 One S phones one with Sense ROM the other with AOSP both with newest radio 1.15 and with any other radio but do not have this issue when i put my SIM card into my GNex so it's not a carrier issue and don't think it is a software issue. I know I need help with it it drives me nuts lol

Personally I use a HOS since past september. (SH24... ) I ve been to rural areas with only 2g coverage (till clinging to death of signal ) but never had problems with home button aka helicoptering issue. On the other hand fast dormancy problem sometimes occur although for very short period of time like 30sec-1min.

Bad connection and calls Break up

I have 2 pixel 3 for my wife and me. Wer both have serious issues with call quality. Partners cant hear US and calls suddently Cut off.
We both using t-mobile in germany and have no issues with other phones with the same Sim.
We already tried to Turn of volte and WiFi calling with no effect. Google Support told me they aware of this issues but have no solution. Anybody here with same problems?

Yes, same issue for me and a couple of people I know in Canada using 3 XL.
There is a thread about it on product forums on googel. I can't linkt it yet.
I love the pixel phones but this makes IT barely usable for US....hoping for a fast solution on this topic.
I have the exact same problem. German Telekom, calls cut off suddenly and for couple seconds other side can't hear me.
I thought it is related to WiFi calling.

Exactly the same here. German phone, using it with Tele2 in the Netherlands. Can't call anyone, nobody can call me. Restart fixes it.
Yes, restart works for a while. So there must be something wrong with the Software.

My wife and I have a similar issue on T-Mobile US, but it appears to only occur when at our home. My connection while at work or traveling around Houston is fine. She works from home and has resorted to using WiFi calling for anyone to hear her, but that too can be a bit spotty at times.
Our average LTE download speeds at the house are a paltry 2-3 mbps. Around town, I can usually get around 20 mbps. Tmo is sending us an LTE repeater for our house to see if that helps. Strange though, we didn't have ANY of these issues with our Pixel 2.
I had the very same problem with my Pixel 3 (Telus mobility / Canada). I returned it and Google sent me a new one. So far so good.
A factory reset reduced the problem by 90% for my wife's phone, and the T-Mobile LTE extender we just received seemed to take care of the last 10%.
I don't want to hijack this thread, but I just admit that I was very skeptical about the LTE extender, but this thing is great! I went front 2-3mbps at home to 20+ Mbps. And now my signal strength went from -115db to -80! ?

After a trip abroad my phone signal...

I was traveling to Istanbul a week ago and now when back to Switzerland had huge problems with voice calls, cellular.
This is not the first time. Also on my old Google Pixel phone, the same issue. Now running around with OnePlus.
My signal strength is actually good, full signal sing on the phone. But people keep telling me how they cannot hear me, how I'm breaking...
Any solution for this? Thanks
Anyone?

It's either a problem with your SIM or with your network, it probably isnt the device. If it is the device causing the problem, factory resetting the device or re-flashing your stock firmware might solve the problem.
