Unplugging fingerprint sensors - General Questions and Answers

Hello, it's been a while since i posted here, the last time i managed to figure out the stuff i needed by my own but i hope i'm more lucky this time as i cant really find anything about this topic either here or anywhere else.
I'm needing a new phone as the old/current one is broken and i dont want to spend more than for buying a new one to repair it.
The few phones that i like, within my specs and price range, have the fingerprint sensor, now, i know everyone gets super excited about that because nobody can touch their phone(i'm still wondering how people can have so important stuff to hide to need a fingerprint sensor lol), yet i seriously dislike them and dont really want it on my phone.
Before someone says i can "disable it" from setup, i know that, but disabling it from menu is equal to put a curtain infront of a window while someone is burning your car. You wont see him doing it, but that wont stop the car from burning down to dust.
Clarified this, i'd like to know if anyone ever tried unplugging a fingerprint sensor on their phone, and if it did work or not.
My main doubt is if the sensor itself is used as a resistance, impedance or a simple any form of current/power delivery system, thus being a fundamental component to close the circuit.
Please answer only if you really know what are you talking about. Thanks a lot everyone for at least bothering to read my odd question.
ps: the phone i'm currently looking at is the Honor 7 lite, aka the "poor" brother of the Huawei GT3. I know they also made the Honor 5c, which already comes without sensor, but i cant find it for sale anywhere(other than the other side of the world, with prohibitive shipping costs and huge customs costs) so i'll have to stick to the Honor 7, and remove that sensor, if it is possible, or just get another phone.

Minor Black Crush/Clipping on Galaxy Note 3

On top is my Galaxy Note II, and on the bottom is my Galaxy Note 3. Not sure if it's all devices or its just on some including mine. It is adjusted by firmware as other galaxy models have demonstrated in the past, so I think it will probably be adjusted in a firmware update in the future, but I just thought I would share. I had my device on at full brightness with auto adjust screen tones off. Then I took a 15 second exposure on my DSLR to confirm that at least "2", and "1" are indeed crushed, and the pixels representing the block for those numbers emit no light at all.
The mess around the numbers are probably jpeg artifacts.

I know, right?!
I also don't understand how some guys who see a "pointless" thread have the need to take actual time from their supposedly busy lives to bash the threads instead of simply moving on with their lives, understanding that they aren't the standard-setters for what is or isn't important to other people.
Not this again, I remember people bleeting about this in the S2 days, if it does have a small issue, who cares, it's not like your TV where you watch media on it all the while you're at home. Think I can cope with the small issue with occasional film I may watch on it.

Before everyone freaks out, here's some background. The issue OP's discussing has been around since the first AMOLED display. It's varied in severity on different models of Samsung phones.

Compared to other Samsung devices the issue on the N3 is relatively minor. It can also vary from display to display and updates have impacted it before. As OP said, the issue's pretty minor on the N3; at least to compared to some of Samsung's other phones. OP, is the device you're using pre-release or production (retail)?
It is what it is. From what's been shown I'm not concerned. Let's see some more sample's from production phones from different regions before we all freak out.

Hey I'm glad the OP posted it. I'm spending $700+ on this device, I would like to know every software glitch, every hardware imperfection, any flaws major or minor exposed. Just because it's Samsung's top of the line phone doesn't mean it deserves a free pass from scrutiny like it's some paragon of hardware excellence.
I don't get why people get so defensive about a piece of electronic. Ya'll working for Samsung's engineering department or what?

Even when you buy a 5000$ laptop, screen bleeding and dead pixels will be there and they are accepted as being an industry standard. The real issue is it doesnt affect in any way how you use or enjoy the device, so why complain. All devices i had, had an XDA thread with hundreds of people that compalined about greens that are too green, or "blobs" for those that had an S3....its ridiculous. Thats how screens are made, they arent perfect

and in daily use when are you going to notice this? i had a note 2 for 6 months and didnt have an issue. you guys get too worried and worked up about such little stuff

I agree. It's more so awareness rather than complaining about it. To be blindsided with issues post purchase would be worse than knowing walking into it

Its not accepted by me, its an industry standard. Do you know what that means? ISO certification of screen allow 3-5 dead pixels and screen bleeding

It's not the "what," it's the "how." I'm tired of scintillating thread titles declaring the end of the world as we know it backed up by little evidence or circumstantial opinion as their basis. Your "the N3 lags like the SGS4" thread comes to mind. You started it based on something you saw in an Italian review that turned out to be the opposite of what you posted once it was translated by an Italian XDA member.
I do agree with you though. I want to know what the issues (and there are bound to be issues) with the N3 are. But I'd like some context (when, where, how many, and how often) to go along with them so I can figure out what they'll mean to me. Spoiler alert: if I have to lock myself in a dark room and adjust settings to levels I'd never normally use to replicate a problem then, for me, it's not a problem. Of course YMMV.
This thread's a good example of how to introduce an issue. OP titled the thread "minor" rather than using "OMG!!!" and "THIS IS AWFUL!!!" and posted documentation to support what he found. That leaves it up to the audience to form their own opinions. And whether it's what OP posted or other issues that have been discussed the friggin' phone isn't even in people's hands yet. So disaster could be on the horizon in a number of areas but it's a bit too early to declare "the sky is falling."

adapt display has nothing to do with calibration, just like in the S4, it just changes color saturation
I can't believe u ****s are still buying Samsung phone since u know they have black crush issue.if amoled bothers u so much,why buy Samsung phone.u can go buy HTC of lg.every device have some issues even ur beloved I phones.stop with these stupid threads.if you have to find faults with microscopes then tell everyone to check their phones.only reason I'm posting because of some people want perfect phone keep calling for warranty replacement and when I have real issue with my phone then att gives me hard time replacing it.

Thank god industry standard just means how much they can get away with before enough people feed their laptops back to them. Never take crap laying down. Always complain if you feel like something's not right. How else would things change for the better?

[Q] Second Hand Nexus 5

Hello everyone,
First of all I want to apology if there is a thread that could answer my questions, but I really don't have time to dig deeper and possibly find something related to my question, sorry.
So back on topic, I ordered a second hand Nexus 5 16GB from a local phone forum and the phone should come tomorrow. I will have about 10-15 minutes to test it before I decide whether I want it or no, so my question for you is: Could you possibly tell me the things to look about in the hardware that wont be easily fixed and I would have to use the warranty? Some problems that occur mostly in Nexus 5's and are common? (for example the purple/pink photos that some m7's made, if you have heard about it). I am overall good with the software and should be able to test it, but if you have any suggestion for things to look in the software too, I would be very thankful to know

i can't help u a lot , but generally for any phone , ( the 2 mics , speaker , camera , and bouttons ) and for the hardware , u can't find them unless u use it for minimum 2 days , sorry , that's all what i can do

Thank you both, I got the phone and eventually paid it. It seemed ok, I will continue to test it(the most left and most right parts of the screen seems less responsive, idk why but this is for another topic )
Check the outside condition. If a phones been shown some love it's a good sign. Give the screen a good check. Nothing worse than fake replacement. As others have said buttons Mike speaker etc. Shake it! If it has bits inside loose something is broken. You may need to replace the battery. It's very easy. The nexus 5 is one of the best phones to fix. The battery is a Weak point and if its an early one it will be getting near time to change. I did mine in ten minutes and the phone is far better for it

I dropped my magic 2 in water for a microsecond and it hasn't started up again Anyone experience this and know what would most likely have happened and if repairable?
I was thinking of asking Huawei to take a look at it given they have an office local to me but asking first on the off-chance someone has cracked one open. And as a warning to others not to dare let there's near water

Honestly, while some very nice aspects to this phone - especially the screen and the Dex-like functionality which is very impressive the first time - the lack of Assistant support, inability to modify much, along with the weight of it and mediocre camera, I don't mind going back to my dinged-up Note FE. But it would be nice to fix it if possible.
You need to be sure is dry inside before power on. Just wait some days and then try it.
If u already did start it may some parts are broken and u should visit Huawei Center and they may have a look at it. Maxbe its easy fixable...

Charging issue w/ Galaxy A20

In the past week, this phone has stopped enabling "fast charge" and now, it takes all day (literally) to charge the phone. Also, battery draining is quite rapid (IMO). I've had the phone 2 months now and it's starting to have other issues as well. I have a question.... is it possible that a minor crack in the screen would have anything to do with the charging issues? BTW, the crack developed within 10 days of purchase. I did not drop the phone but perhaps, may have sat on it while in back pocket, but I question this for it's "supposed" the have Gorilla glass3 and I would think it would be more resistant to cracking in such a manner? Anyway, looking for answer, mostly, to charging issue. THANX Rick

If you put your whole body weight on the phone while bending it (that is, having it in your back pocket while sitting), why are you surprised that it cracked? Sturdy doesn't mean indestructible. And you were asking about custom roms for that phone so if you did something wrong in that regard it wouldn't be surprising if you had problems. Return it for a new one, if they will even take it back. They cover defects not abuse so don't be shocked if they tell you that its your problem.

I guess your not aware of durability of Gorilla glass 3, as touted by the manufacturer. But, I'll do some more "checking" and ask them(Gorilla Glass). Funny thing, the phone started charging, in reasonable time frame, albeit without "fast charge". Leads me to believe it's the charger(?). That too, I'll check out with a dealer. I was asking about a ROM. Haven't employed one as yet. Going to inquire at Samsung if it would be alright to revert to Android 9 so that I can continue to use the FM receiver. Strange...but had no problems until a few weeks after "upgrading" to Android 10

Guess you're not familiar with things breaking if you put too much stress on them. You can't go back to 9 unless you root the phone and load a custom ROM which voids the warranty, so you're then out of luck for a warranty replacement for the phone you broke.
Personally I'd not trust a battery that had been bent enough to crack the phone. But you obviously know everything, so have fun.

My fast charging works fine if I use the proper charger and a short lead.
Did you do a reset after updating? Lots of issues the pop up after an update are due to leftover data messing with things.
Move your files off and give that baby a factory reset real quick.

I didn't say it wasn't ok did I? I said I wouldn't trust it and I wouldn't. Like said, if you bent it enough to crack the screen a LiOn battery could get the foil exposed and it would go up. Was there a word that was too hard for you?
And if you want to have a comment "blown out of the water", what about your junk regarding gorilla glass? Yea, I'm sure you have NEVER EVER heard of ANYONE BREAKING THEIR SCREEN BEFORE, RIGHT?
Want FM Radio on A10? Nextradio app in the play store. And before you moan about anything, your radio working has nothing to do with Android, but what the firmware allows from the vendor.

Try again. NextRadio works fine on A10, and have it installed and working. Since you appear to have trouble reading, note the part about the firmware on the phone, and some vendors disabling it. If its disabled it doesn't work with any app. And spouting off about it being gorilla glass is supposed to mean what? Or are you seriously trying to say that NO ONE HAS EVER BROKEN THEIR PHONE SCREEN since gorilla glass came out? Because if they have I obviously know more about the possibility of it breaking than you do.
And I'm pretty confident that I've seen many broken phones of all types. Maybe you should get out more.
I've not found an app that can access the FM chipset. Next Radio is defunct now and doesn't work on And. 10. I'm going to mark this thread closed...as soon as I find the proper "tool" to do so.

NextRadio is not 'defunct', and received an update not too long ago. And again it works fine on A10. Did you not understand when you were told very, VERY simply (maybe not simply enough for you, though), that unless your provider ALLOWS that feature to be turned on, it won't work no matter what the app??
And can't you answer the simple question of whether or not you've ever heard of someone dropping their phone and breaking the (in your mind) ABSOLUTELY UNBREAKABLE gorilla glass, that you claim to know all about?

Useless fingerprint sensor? Did I get a dud, or is this a design flaw?

I just got a One Hyper and generally love it, EXCEPT the fingerprint sensor almost never works? My previous Motorola G5 Plus gets my finger/thumb pretty much instantly every time. No matter how many times I've deleted and reprogrammed the fingerprints on this One Hyper it only recognizes a finger press 1 out of 10 or 20 presses???? Seems like it worked better, but not near perfectly when I first started using it and it's been all but entirely useless since I did the Android 11 upgrade soon after getting it?
I've watched several video reviews that either don't mention this being a problem or even say the fingerprint sensor works well??? So, I'm thinking I may have gotten a dud? I'd just return it to Amazon, but I bought it in the USA right before returning to Canada and I even left the box in the US. Maybe Motorola would swap it out under warranty? Or maybe I could just pay for a replacement sensor?

If you get a replacement, disable OTA updates and leave it on 10. Android 11/12 are a mess.
Scoped storage and forced encryption are fully active.
As I mentioned, returning it would be complex, possibly impossible. I could get the original box sent to me in Canada since I left it at my mom's house in the US? Maybe I could get a swap out from Motorola, I'd likely have to send my current unit to the US and might have to get the replacement sent to the US and forwarded to me here in Canada?
What a mess. I should have taken the issue more seriously when I first got it, should have done a return to Amazon right off the bat.
I have a support escalation request in with Motorola, so we'll see where that goes I suppose. The first teir support guy just suggested the classic, "First, Do a factory reset." I really doubt that'll fix this phone. And I've spent days getting this phone set up to my liking. But if this sensor isn't ever going to work, that's a deal breaker. Way too used to working fingerprint unlocking to go back to a password.
Well, I haven't heard from Motorola yet, but I trained the same finger for all 5 available fingers and now it unlocks perfectly every time? It seems to get my thumb with only one "finger" trained with it. That's what I use on my G5 Plus, because the sensor is on the front. I like the phone a lot in general, so I was VERY keen to find a solution. But disappointing, as I'd like to be able to train more than one finger! The 5 fingerprint limit is a little frustrating. The fact that the software isn't robust enough to actually learn my prints in the one little training session it gives is pretty frustrating! You should be able to go into those settings and keep on adding finger presses to train it better, faster manually. AND It sure would be nice if you could set your own limit for unsuccessful tries before it makes you enter a PIN or password. I was simply never getting in in the number of allowed presses. So I don't think it was training the AI very well, thus not improving the recognition.
So, solution seemingly found, I don't >think< this is a hardware or design flaw? Sure does seem like lousy software, perhaps in the Android 11 code? I didn't use it with 10 very long, but it did seem to do a lot better recognizing my fingerprints before I did the 11 update.
AHHHHH!!!!! And this morning the same finger that was unlocking pretty much instantly every time after yesterdays "fix" isn't recognized try after try after try this morning??
No one else is having these kinds of issues? Everyone is getting fast, consistent fingerprint recognition?
Otherwise I love this phone! The pop up selfy cam so when it's face up on a table I know no camera can see anything unless that front camera is popped out is so perfect I do not understand why that's not on most phones??!! Notches and holes in screens are going to be so dated and laughable as soon as that falls out of fashion. Good cameras. Plenty of built in storage AND an SD slot? Dual sims?!!! (American living in Canada here!) 3.5mm analog headphone jack??? This is my PERFECT phone, at least for this price. EXCEPT if I can't get consistent, fast fingerrpint recognition, I am simply not going to keep this phone. WTF???!!!! WHY is does this work so dramatically worse than my old G5 Plus??
Deleted all fingerprints. Set three to my pointer finder, one to my middle finger, one to my thumb. It's working pretty much perfectly now! On either finger and the thumb it seems. BUT, for how long??!! Will I wake up tomorrow and have to reprogram all five fingerprints?? At this point, I have to assume it's going to stop working in the next day or so??? Pray I'm wrong!!!!
