"Force Stop" behaviour new in Nougat? - T-Mobile LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi all, just wondering about seemingly new behaviour in Nougat. A few days ago I finally ditched my old Galaxy S4 (running lollipop) for a new LG G5 running Nougat. In Nougat settings, I can see "Apps" instead of the familiar Lollipop "Application Manager" section. But that's fine. My question is when I select an app, Nougat only gives me the choice to force stop it. In lollipop, I could do that, as well as choose to clear cache and clear app data. So the quesion becomes, how can I clear a given app 's cache? Or is that already done when I force stop? And how do I clear app data for a given app in Nougat?
Darn new OSs give old guys like me a headache lol. Cool new phone though lol...

[Q] Market updated?

So I just opened the market today (after a few days) and it seems like the market has now been updated on my Captivate. I now have the option to update all apps at once (jesus finally) and the UI is a bit different - comments for apps are on separate tabs, etc.
I'm pretty sure I have not been oblivious this whole time...this is a recent update right?
definitely a new update...
I just checked my market on my (stock 2.1) captivate and I see the same 'update all' option. I had 35 apps to update and once I hit update all the phone informed me that one app had changed permissions so I could update 34 apps and manually do the last one. The animation when the downloads are starting is a bit wonky...it overlaps the app rating stars. The market app overall also seems to look different.
This is awesome! wish google could push entire OS updates like this
as usual captivate wifi/system folders hamper features
It looks like the captivates well known issues are really hurting this feature...my phone has required two on/off cycles of wifi to keep it downloading data, and the phone seems to be struggling mightily to handle download/install of the apps .
where would this "update all" option be?
It was a silent update that started about a month ago. I got another one and now have a related tab in the app info.
From a phone
I never got the initial silent update on my 100% stock captivate.
Edit: referring to the market update
Nothing yet
On a stock unrooted (but unlocked) JH7 :-(
Just noticed my market has updated...running rooted JH7.

I've always had "Update All" whenever there are multiple apps that are ready to update. However, that third tab is new.

Mine was just updated, running rooted JH7. I like the new "related" button... amusing at times to see what it considers related.

"Clear Data"
Still no update for me... I read that, for some people, clearing Market data in Menu | Settings | Applications | Manage Applications | Market somehow makes the update appear. However, I do not even have a "Clear Data" option---only "Clear Cache" and "Force Stop".
This on a stock JH7 Captivate.
This update failed to install for me.

I don't see Market in the Manage Applications menu?
I'd like to get this update, since it seems like a good chunk of the apps I have are updated on a weekly basis .....

Anyone else having issues with Apps after 4.1.1 upgrade?

I'm having problems with quite a few apps either stalling, force-closing, or just being unstable after receiving the OTA 4.1.1 upgrade. One example that comes to mind is the Smartactions app (which worked fine with 4.0.4, but now force closes and won't let me make some changes).
Is this an app problem (which might be resolved when the apps themselves update to support 4.1.1), or is this a 4.1.1 build problem on Motorola's end (as though they released a sh!tty update that makes apps unstable)?

I'm no expert but I'd expect this to be an app issue for two reasons:
1) The apps were created for 4.0.4. If you are noticing this problem with a Jellybean app (like Google Now for instance) it would make more sense that it's an android issue but since you're talking about smart actions I'd think it's likely just bad compatability between the app and the OS.
2) Moto/Verizon put this build through a butt load of testing before releasing it. We had a leak well before the official OTA that was extremely stable and Moto still wouldn't release the OTA. Generally OEMs, especially one's like Motorola, and especially for flagship devices like the Razr HD, do not release updates without thorough (as in what might seem as unnecessarily thorough) testing. They don't want to take the chance of having to give people their money back because they can't use their phones after the update.
Lastly, it's possible that something happened along the way of your update and that may be causing your problem.
Are you rooted? Were you rooted before updating? This may have caused a problem while updating.
I'd suggest using the DROID RAZR HD UTILITY to fastboot restore and start with an out of the box experience. It's also possible that the app data for smart actions (as in the data your phone saved about what you already had programmed into smart actions) was not wiped before you updated and now you are getting conflicts with app data from 4.0.4 not working with 4.1.1. Your best bet is to start fresh if it really is a problem. I ran the update after fastboot restore and I haven't had any problems. I also haven't used smart actions since updating, though.
Hope this helps...good luck

Have you try a factory reset (master clear)? You can also try wipe data and dalvik if you have access to these options.
Only app I have a problem with is draw something. Works on my nexus 7 but not on this jb update. It also works on cm 10, unfortunately that's too buggy to be a dd.

After I updated the amazon app store keeps crashing upon opening. And also draw something doesn't work.

Amazon sent me an email saying they noticed I was having app store issues and a link to download a update outside of their app store.
The only issue I'm having and can't figure out is when I set the alarm on my phone and it goes off there's nothing that pops up to turn it of or snooze. I literally have to shut the phone down and restart it to turn the alarm off. I've looked thru my disabled apps and can't find anything disabled that would be affecting this. Any advice?
James
I don't have any issues with my alarm. Maybe try clearing the cache?

Amazon sent me an email with a like for the new appstore. Haven't had issues since.
We recently learned that you may be having trouble signing into the Amazon Appstore for Android after upgrading the operating system on your Verizon Android phone.
We've made a newer version of the Amazon Appstore available that addresses this issue. To download and install this latest version:
1. Go to http://amzn.to/getappstore from your mobile phone's web browser.
2. If prompted, choose "Browser" in the "Complete action using" pop-up and Appstore will begin to download.
3. Once the download is complete, pull down the Notification bar at the top of the screen and tap "Amazon_Appstore_release.apk" to install.
4. Select "OK" to replace the application, then tap "Install."
5. Tap "Open," then enter your log-in information.
6. If you previously turned on Parental Controls or adjusted other Appstore settings, you will need to make those changes again. To do so, tap "Menu," and then "Settings."
Your previously purchased apps will remain available. You can view them by tapping "Menu," and then "My Apps." Your previously downloaded apps and progress will also not be impacted when you download the new version of the Amazon Appstore for Android.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Sincerely,
Customer Service

Rom advice for s6

Hi everyone
I am currently using a oneplus one and bought an s6 as it looks like a good phone.
However, my first impression is that the phone has too many native apps; before I start using it properly I will be migrating all my settings, data etc from my previous phone.
Anyone migrated from oneplus one to s6?
what rom would you advise for samsung s6?
Thank you
I used to own the OnePlus, cool phone. I would highly recommend Xtrestolite rom, it's very debloated and there's an aroma package that you can flash and choose which features you wanna install
Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
Hi thank you for the reply.
I have checked the rom and looks interesting.
However, there's one issue, it states:
"I would NOT recommend to restore system apps or app data of your apps with Titanium backup, only the apps themselves.
Restoring App data or System apps can cause problems with the apps. (This applies to any ROM!)"
I want to backup app data of my apps that are installed on my current one plus one and restore it on this new phone (viber messages, sms messages, contacts and also settings of some other apps as well), will I be able to do this or it will cause issues as suggested by the author of the rom?
How did you backup restore all the data of your oneplus one to the samsung s6?
Thank you
I have managed to install Xtrestolite, still testing it and it looks faster but I am trying to get all my previous apps work on this new device.
Most of them are working but at the moment I am having problem with Tasker.
In tasker some of my tasks requires accessibility tasker to be turned on, I turn that on and then I am asked to enable the universal switch, if I don't do it, the accessibility for the tasker doesn't get enabled, if I DO enable it, an error is through "settings has stopped working"
Does anyone know how to fix this?
THank you

PSA: disable Mobile Services Manager in System > Apps

NOTE: This might only apply to the Verizon version of the S9/S9+ (SM-G96xU), but for those of you who have this app, disable it.
It's labeled as "Mobile Services Manager" under Settings > Apps (it does not appear in your app drawer in your launcher).
Previously called DT Ignite (or just Ignite), it can and does install apps without your permission as instructed by your carrier. This is in addition to the apps installed on first boot by ConfigAPK (android.autoinstalls.config.samsung) and is guaranteed to just be bloat.
The package name is com.LogiaGroup.LogiaDeck and was found on my device under /system/carrier/priv-app/IgniteVerizon/IgniteVerizon.apk. Without root, you can't delete this package, but you can disable it, which will prevent it from continuing to do its dirty work.
Thx for the tip

Has anyone compiled a list of what apps can be deleted, I'm on the sprint version of the galaxy s9+... Thanks in advance!
i just removed it using adb shell and this tutorial
I found it... SM-G965U - US Cellular:
Force Stop, Storage (clear both), Disable...
mine even uninstalled an update (I didn't perform).
On AT&T, the package name is: com.dti.att
same here Globe in Philippines its just labeled as DT IGNITE, consumed too much data without us knowing its dirty work. d**n carrier

Hi there. Does anyone know what the app is called for Spectrum Mobile? As far as I know, Spectrum cell service is a relatively new thing (at least here in BFE) so I'll understand if no one is sure. Don't know if it matters or not, but they run off Verizon. Thanks in advance for any advice. I am completely new to any sort of tweaking/customization other than changing some settings here and there. (Basically just being a wimp with a leased phone.) I'm interested in learning all I can, or all I can without voiding the warranty. Lol. Thanks all and sorry if I sound clueless.
Update: still looking on my new phone for possibilities but I did just get on my S7 Edge from Verizon and found Mobile Services Manager using Package Disabler Pro. Wow! Those permissions were ridiculous.
Is it applicable in tmobile as well?
That's why I bought package disabler pro. Eliminates all vzw bloat.
Mobile services manager
I found this app also in the application list on At&t Galaxy S9+, but not in my app drawer. I uninstalled the updates for it and it went from being called mobile services manager to At&t app select. I disabled it and once I did it disappeared completely from my app list all together. It had background data enabled and everything. Sneaky At&t, try to get one iver on me.

Honestly I got tired of At&t bloatware and wifi calling notification staying on my panel. I flashed the U1 firmware to my phone last night. The AT&t firmware has a serious security issue where if I make a call and press the lock key the phone unlocks itself as soon as the call ends or if I get a call and unlock it for any reason it stays unlocked after the phone call. I use headphones at work for my calls and this leaves it unlocked in my pocket doing all kinds of things. At&t says not an issue just pull your phone out and lock it. I say Im not supposed to have my phone at all and I rely on the answer and end call button on my headphones and need it to stayocked in my pocket. I dont have this issue with the U1 firmware. And it has a data switch in the shortcut pull down menu so no background data period.
I am reading this thread after finding it by Google search.
I am trying to find the source of my battery drain on my Samsung Note 8.
While searching and deleting apps, I stumbled across this unknown thing, and here I am.
Btw...
I'm on T-Mobile.
Be aware of this new bloatware system app name! Mobile Device Manager(formerly known as DT Ignite) has now changed it's name to Verizon App Manager. Don't be fooled, disable this so-called 'system app' ASAP to prevent it from installing unwanted apps (mostly games) onto your phone while eating up your phone's resources and data!

Uninstall cloned dual messenger apps?

I tried that for 1st time on WhatsApp & then I noticed some battery drain. I uninstalled the cloned app, but in Apps, I still see cloned apps created automatically by the service such as Android system webview & Google play services with no uninstall/disable buttons.
Is there a way to get rid of these please?

hello has anyone heard of a solution for this issue or if one was already provided in this comment's original thread, can a lick be provided for it? i think I'm having the same issue from the context of this comment. Maybe the only difference is that my phone is not rooted which im sure will end up being a factor in whether there is anyway to resolve this or not. samsung galaxy j7 pro j7271 wth it has too many names out there lol. meteopcs 2017 variant if that helps. nonrooted 8.1 and trying to stay that way if possible as this is my only phone. thanks for your time!

Try clearing data of Dual Messenger in Settings - Apps & then disable/freeze it. I don't remember how I fixed it but since I'm using custom roms, I think I wiped data in twrp after backing up me apps & reinstalling the rom.
On stock rom if disabling the app doesn't work, u may have to reset.

Thanks! For some reason, I'm cannot disable it. I'll give resetting a try and post back whether that works or not. I had considered resetting, but was being stubborn trying to figure out another way.
Success Uninstalling Shadow Services
I have a Samsung S8 and was facing the same issue when I searched for "Uninstall Dual Messenger" and found this thread. I resolved the issue and decided to return here and say what I did to get them all uninstalled. I didn't have a "Secure Folder" also, I already opened the "Dual Messenger" setting and disabled the available options. The missing step for me was to go to Apps > ANT+ and click Force Stop and Disable. I had already uninstalled "Copy Of Messenger" when I discovered that it doesn't remove the copy of play services and everything else. Removing the ANT+ App removed about five or six "Copy Of.." Apps as well. I hope this is enlightening. After removing all of your Dual Apps, Copy Of.. Apps & Secure Folder, Remove the ANT+ App. On Galaxy S8 With The Latest Updates As Of 6/9/20 I alas successfully removed the remnant shadow service copies that were associated with Dual Messenger.
