I'm having problems with quite a few apps either stalling, force-closing, or just being unstable after receiving the OTA 4.1.1 upgrade. One example that comes to mind is the Smartactions app (which worked fine with 4.0.4, but now force closes and won't let me make some changes).
Is this an app problem (which might be resolved when the apps themselves update to support 4.1.1), or is this a 4.1.1 build problem on Motorola's end (as though they released a sh!tty update that makes apps unstable)?

I'm no expert but I'd expect this to be an app issue for two reasons:
1) The apps were created for 4.0.4. If you are noticing this problem with a Jellybean app (like Google Now for instance) it would make more sense that it's an android issue but since you're talking about smart actions I'd think it's likely just bad compatability between the app and the OS.
2) Moto/Verizon put this build through a butt load of testing before releasing it. We had a leak well before the official OTA that was extremely stable and Moto still wouldn't release the OTA. Generally OEMs, especially one's like Motorola, and especially for flagship devices like the Razr HD, do not release updates without thorough (as in what might seem as unnecessarily thorough) testing. They don't want to take the chance of having to give people their money back because they can't use their phones after the update.
Lastly, it's possible that something happened along the way of your update and that may be causing your problem.
Are you rooted? Were you rooted before updating? This may have caused a problem while updating.
I'd suggest using the DROID RAZR HD UTILITY to fastboot restore and start with an out of the box experience. It's also possible that the app data for smart actions (as in the data your phone saved about what you already had programmed into smart actions) was not wiped before you updated and now you are getting conflicts with app data from 4.0.4 not working with 4.1.1. Your best bet is to start fresh if it really is a problem. I ran the update after fastboot restore and I haven't had any problems. I also haven't used smart actions since updating, though.
Hope this helps...good luck

Have you try a factory reset (master clear)? You can also try wipe data and dalvik if you have access to these options.
Only app I have a problem with is draw something. Works on my nexus 7 but not on this jb update. It also works on cm 10, unfortunately that's too buggy to be a dd.

After I updated the amazon app store keeps crashing upon opening. And also draw something doesn't work.

Amazon sent me an email saying they noticed I was having app store issues and a link to download a update outside of their app store.
The only issue I'm having and can't figure out is when I set the alarm on my phone and it goes off there's nothing that pops up to turn it of or snooze. I literally have to shut the phone down and restart it to turn the alarm off. I've looked thru my disabled apps and can't find anything disabled that would be affecting this. Any advice?
James
I don't have any issues with my alarm. Maybe try clearing the cache?

Amazon sent me an email with a like for the new appstore. Haven't had issues since.
We recently learned that you may be having trouble signing into the Amazon Appstore for Android after upgrading the operating system on your Verizon Android phone.
We've made a newer version of the Amazon Appstore available that addresses this issue. To download and install this latest version:
1. Go to http://amzn.to/getappstore from your mobile phone's web browser.
2. If prompted, choose "Browser" in the "Complete action using" pop-up and Appstore will begin to download.
3. Once the download is complete, pull down the Notification bar at the top of the screen and tap "Amazon_Appstore_release.apk" to install.
4. Select "OK" to replace the application, then tap "Install."
5. Tap "Open," then enter your log-in information.
6. If you previously turned on Parental Controls or adjusted other Appstore settings, you will need to make those changes again. To do so, tap "Menu," and then "Settings."
Your previously purchased apps will remain available. You can view them by tapping "Menu," and then "My Apps." Your previously downloaded apps and progress will also not be impacted when you download the new version of the Amazon Appstore for Android.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
Sincerely,
Customer Service

Transformer just arrived. All set up and using my existing Google Account.
However, if i click on any paid apps in the market it states 'Sorry, details page for the requested item could not be found' ....
Its let me sync all my other apps, including paid ones, and it recognised my ID ...
what am i missing ??
There are a couple of other threads open on this, it seems that from yesterday some users are starting to experience the same market issues. I have the same problem and it started this morning, i don't think its a problem with your account or set up. I have emailed Google apps, awaiting their reply or a fix from other users.
If I were a betting person I'd say we're not far off an update of the market that will add a proper tablet specific section, just like itunes has for iphone/ipad apps, as any time an app is reported a few times that it's crashing/FC'ing in honeycomb, it seems to get blocked for tablet installations. So maybe it has something to do with a google reshuffle of the way apps are viewed.

You could be right but it is not affecting incompatible apps, it is any paid app, i have installed a few from your thread prior to this issue and now cannot install new ones you have added as compatible e.g. backup pro.

Yeah but I'd assume paid apps were on different servers, as they would have more encrypted data, so possibly one section could be affected while the other remains untouched during an upgrade.

Mmm... possibly, will have to wait and see, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Just started getting this today too :-(
I was getting this quite a bit last night, but it wasn't only for paid apps. Some free ones had the problem as well. My workaround for a paid app that I hadn't yet purchased was to buy it on my computer and it was automatically sent to my device.
I got it only once today, don't remember which app. But it has worked fine generally.
I got this message on a few different apps last night. I was able to get around it by either hitting the back button instead of OK in the popup. Or by going to the market through the browser and pushing the app to my device. The market app for HC is really lacking at this point. You can't even review apps. Hopefully they will update soon.

I'm getting this too.
Temporary solution is to download any app from market.android.com and have it manually download from your browser to your tablet.
I can't install from the market web app - get a notice that I "have not opened the market recently on this device" (which I have - I'm in it now..)
There are quite a few apps I downloaded from the Market to try, didn't care for and deleted. Now I keep getting nagged to install updates for these deleted apps. Ditto deleted crapware apps after rooting.
Is there a way to stop these nags for apps I no longer have on my phone? And still get update advisories for ones I kept?
I saw a thread about doing this with Amazon's store with a followup that the fix was automatically unfixed on sign-in, but I am primarily interested in deleted Market apps.
TIA for any help and advice on this!
Sounds a bit dodgy. I've never had 1 single update notification for an app that's not installed on my phone. It doesn't make sense.
Something's wrong there. You've got a bigger problem to fix than just some notifications.

What do you mean it's dodgy? I'm not making it up!
It happens all the time.
I have read experiences of other users identical to mine, but no solutions.
Both with Android Market and with Amazon AppStore.
You download and install apps, try them but then delete them, but continue to get nags to update them.
What is this bigger problem you are suggesting?
Thanks for your interest.
I'm not suggesting you're making it up, just that it sounds very unusual. I've never heard of anyone having updates for apps they've uninstalled.
As for the "bigger problem", wait and see if you get any decent advice, but if not then I'd recommend a factory reset.

Solution!
Well, this is amazing!
I stumbled on a totally non-Geek solution elsewhere:
Just Turn off Global Notifications of Market updates --
1. open Market on the phone
2. Press Menu Key
3. Select "Settings"
4. Use the drop down bar in the Notifications area to disable notifications.
I can still see notifications of updates when I open Market, but I don't get bugged and can just pick and choose the ones I use. Plus, I can still set the ones I choose to individually auto-update if I want.
Eureka!
Or am I celebrating too soon?
I have the pro version of Titanium Backup and am wondering what apps to freeze to prevent an automatic Verizon OTA. When I tried from the App manager, FWUpgrade 1.2.0 was not freeze-able. Looking at [ROM] [STOCK] [I535VRALF2] Stripped, Rooted It's on the list. Since I haven't seen much chatter about "FWUpgrade" in General or Q&A I thought I'd ask. In addition, I decided to freeze VZW Package Installer. Should I freeze anything else?
BTW I rooted using:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1756885
With the image from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28570424&postcount=125
I haven't installed a custom recovery yet.
Did you hear something?
I was wondering the same thing about which specific services should be disabled to avoid OTA pushes, except I have Root66 with Touch.img and boot.ani.fix. Working like a champ BTW, much thanks to the developers.
In Titanium Backup Pro, I have no issues freezing FWUpgrade 1.2.0.
EDIT: This is not specific to Verizon, but may be useful to you. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634624

ThanksI I'm about to try installing TWRP via GooManager. I also came across this, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767125&highlight=sdm which suggested to freeze SDM as well, so I did. Phone still works fine. I will be sure to go through that spreadsheet and see if anything else is worth freezing.
Done and done.
Hey, just a heads up, freezing the APKs alone isn't the right solution.
If you freeze just FWUpgrade then it isn't actually disabled. (Notice by clicking software update in settings) and unfortunately if you freeze the other APK then you will cause your phone to crash randomly AND you can get a crash/hang on-demand if you click software update manually.
In the market there is an app called 'OTA Blocker' for S3 will properly take care of the OTA apps and installs a hook in with the OTA APIs so that it gracefully is stopped from being able to perform an OTA. If UI interaction is needed it pops up a message instead of letting the phone freeze/crash.

So you come to XDA and your only two posts are to promote your own paid app. Care to elaborate on how your app works?
Agreed. This is a community, not an advertising venue. If you care to "contribute" please do so. If you think the visitors of this forum are blindly going to buy your app, you are sadly mistaken.

Is there a suggested method of blocking OTAs on rooted stock right now? I will eventually go to a custom rom, but am taking my time. All my previous android phones have been HTC and I'm trying to make sure I don't screw something up with my new gs3. I have gotten TWRP installed, nandroided and done OTA root keeper but want to make sure. I'm comfortable in ADB as long as I have the script before hand.
Well I've been pushing my Moto Droid to it's last legs before getting my GS3 so a lot of this is shock to me.
I never thought VZW would push an OTA and force you to install it. They would nag you, but never force the install.
I'm also not familar with current recoveries (I was using sprecovery on my old phone) and it wouldn't ever automatically flash an OTA, you would have to confirm the update so I'd imagine it would be the same in CWM or TWRP.
So I have had my tf700t since about Jan and immediately rooted and installed 7.1.2 with custom recovery. installed spectrum tv app and it worked ok. The vid was always a little choppy.
recently the app gives me an error saying it will not work with a rooted device. ugh. I probably use that app more than almost any other as its nice way to check the guide. other than going back to stock what are my options? by the way, I have tried installing the app from the apk directly to the tablet and same issue.
Update: so now the app runs but will not display the video, and present same error message regarding device rooted. I guess I can live with this as I said before, I don;t typically watch shows on my tablet as the video is a little too choppy to watch which is a drag. But at least I can scroll the channel guide
Install an older version of the app and do not update
thanks, I will give it a try. very annoying when trying to navigate the lineup and every station that I select I get the "this app doesn't work if your rooted" pop up.
I use a app called Disable Service cn.wq.disableservice. Disable all background services, wipe cache and it works. This app also is good for disabling apps that force you to update the app. Older apps do work if the app cannot determine that it is outdated.
play store auto installing apps on all devices
Whenever I install something on my s22, it will install it on my galaxy tablet.
How can I prevent this.
In Playstore settings change to update by wifi only and disable wifi. I normally keep Playwhore package blocked and firewall blocked unless needed. Once a Playstore paid for app is activated I firewall block it as well if it doesn't need internet access. I avoid Playstore as much as possible and create installable backups for all the apps from Playstore so I never need to use Playstore again when reloading except for paid apps. It streamlines reloads and they go much faster.
I also use more Playstore alternatives now but always scan them first with Virustotal. A Playstore app may be clean when installed only to download it's payload latter as an "update". Another reason I don't allow updates or an internet connect if not needed. Playstore updates can and do ruin once working apps. Tired of that bs.
Thanks for your thoughts.
But this did not ever happen before.
I've always had a Samsung mobile and Samsung tablet and the mobile app never auto-installed on the tablet till now.
I don't want to turn off auto-update because thats not a real fix.
Need to find out why its auto-installing.
I checked playstore on mobile and on tablet and on browser - but theres no mention of auto-install on all devices.

You can manually install updates from Playstore which is a wiser way to do it. One of the reasons I can run Pie securely is I use vetted apps, some are 6 yo and I firewall block them. Updates bring trouble far too often. Once a system is running fast, stable and fulfilling its mission updates serve no purpose most of the time. Auto updates bring rude surprises and make troubleshooting much harder in tracking down the offender.
In 2.5 years (that's how old this current load is) I've had no malware but spent a lot of time undoing damage updates have caused including a firmware "upgrade" for my Buds+ that trashed the sound. That pair now needs to be reflashed and it's a pain to do. meh.
If you try unmark one or more of your devices before instalation on the app, did it help?
See the pictures.
Same, annoying feature, as on iPhone. On the other device go to settings/network preferences and disable auto update.
Simply manually periodically check for updates on tablet and it will check and update any apps installed if necessary
