No computer will see this phone - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Phone only will charge when plugged in. None say driver installing. No notification on phone asking charge, file transfer, etc.
Debugging is on...I've changed mtp to PTP, etc.
All it will do is charge. I I stalled Hisense, still nothing.
Any ideas?

I've tried this as well...No success. It doesn't even make a noise to try and install drivers when I plug the phone in. To any computer.

Some other forums suggest it is a problem with the motherboard. Maybe it component was fried whilst charging, who knows. Point being, there is no answer to your question it is something you have to live with. I'm already looking for a replacement phone. I love listening to music and what was great before was that I could simply drag my albums from iTunes to android file transfer with such ease. Alas, no more

32 and 64 are your computer. Try turning off the phone, then plugging it in and turning it on, strangely enough that has fixed problems with USB before.

What do you mean it "won't recognize"
When you plug it in you get no notification? Or are you trying to mount the sd card in windows?
When I plug it in it recognizes that something usb was plugged in but it won't pick up the drivers

Try plugging your phone in, then go to the Device Manager in Windows, and look to see if any of the entries have a yellow or red exclamation point beside them.
got it!!!
thanks for all the help but after all the messing around it was the USB cord to be the blame!!!

[Q] HTC Sync drivers won't work

I'm trying to root my girlfriend's Evo Shift 4G. I downloaded the latest version of HTC Sync to my computer but when I connect the phone under sync mode it never detects the phone. Windows 7 starts to install the drivers but fails to install them. I reinstalled windows 7 32 bit no antivirus software and fresh sync install and it still won't work. I went into device manager and it showed Android Phone with a yellow explanation point. I removed the usb cable, uninstalled the android phone device, rebooted, plugged the usb cord into a different usb port and it still won't work. At this point I have no idea what to do in order to get the computer to see the phone so I can use ADB to get the phone rooted. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

i banged my head over this for hours yesterday only to find that the problem was i was using a knock-off ebay usb cable. once i tried the "official" usb cable that came with the phone (has a HTC tag on it) it worked perfectly!!
Definately check the Micro USB Cable. I've had knock off cables be the cause of several issues. I always make sure to use the HTC factory cable. Also make sure and check your ports on the phone, and PC. Make sure they're clean. Dust and dirt collect in them as time goes on.
Okay thanks I'll try the HTC cable. I was using the cable from my Nexus S 4G maybe the phone's port was dirty. I'll check things out. Thanks for the ideas!

Here to help
Okay I tried cleaning the contacts on 3 different USB cables, cleaned the usb port of the Shift, and still no luck. If it's connected in storage mode or charge only the computer shows an HTC Android Phone. However, once USB debugging is turned on it doesn't know the phone is there. Any other ideas? Is there a different driver that debugging mode uses that maybe I don't have?
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
Okay now I tried hooking up my Nexus S 4G to the computer and once USB debugging is turned on the computer couldn't locate a driver. It's something about debugging that's messing up my computer.

He said the problem is the phone isn't recognized once debugging is checked.
This is strange though.. I have rooted my Shift, a Nexus S and installed CM on my Touchpad and never had any issues with the drivers. Maybe try removing and reinstalling the drivers? Obviously something is not agreeing with your PC.
When USB debugging is turned on, windows doesn't find the phones. :-(

Sounds like you need to update the HTC drivers. I used the ones off the Revolutionary site for the EVO4G.
Any way you could link me to where you got the drivers?

[SOLVED] Issues when trying to connect to PC

Hello everyone,
So all of a sudden I'm having problems when trying to connect my new One S to my PC. This is really confusing so read carefully.
Typically, when we connect the device to a PC, the LED lights up and the USB icon shows up in the status bar. Here's the thing. When I try to connect my HOS to the PC, the LED blinks asynchronously and the icon on the status bar disappears and reappears. It's like the connection is loose.
My first thought was that there should be a hardware issue.
I tested the cable first for any issues. I tried another cable and the problem persisted. When I tried to connect my other device, an Xperia X8, there was no problem whatsoever. So, definitely, the cable is not producing the problem.
Next, I thought maybe the Micro USB port on my One S was the problem. I took a q-tip and cleaned it, although it already was clean. Tried again connecting it to the PC, no luck. But when I tried connecting it to my Laptop instead, there was no problem at all! And there's also no problem when charging it (from the wall charger).
My next thought was the PC's USB ports where causing the problem. I took a vacuum cleaner p) and dusted off any lint there was. So I tried connecting my HOS again and still no luck. Tried all 4 USB ports and even a USB extension cord.
If needed, my PC is running Ubuntu 12.04, my Laptop Win7 and my HOS is running CM10.
Now I'm really confused and I have no idea what to do next. Any thoughts?

I tried connecting it with Virtuous ROM, JB Sense and the issue is still present. I'm pretty sure it's not the ROM's fault.

It's Ubuntu, there are no drivers. On my laptop with Windows, there's no issue and I didn't install any HTC drivers. Just the regular drivers Windows installs when detecting a new device.
Can someone please merge this thread with mine so we get the right answers in one thread please, this would help both of us and also anyone else that may come across our issues?

Any Admin, please can you?
I should probably note that I'm not using an HTC Micro USB cable. Both cables I tried were Sony (Xperia X8) cables.

I think its the chipset that Linux is having issues with so maybe look into updating that or changing it for another version.

The chipset is pretty much the motherboard which of cause controls USB and other stuff. So you need find out what you on and then see if there is an update.
So I should check if there is a software update for my motherboard. Sorry, I'm not well informed concerning hardware
Will do.

Hello!
Which Version is your ROM at? Everything except the Jelly bean update (4.1) should work out of the box.
From jelly bean on you will need libmtp. You want to use mass storage? As far as i know One S has just recently been added to libmtp things. So if there would be a problem you may contact the bugowner or just wait for a working kio slave with mtp.
Greetings,
R
PS.: I use opensuse so things are for sure different. I will just wait for a kio slave that works.
Maybe my information is not precise enough or not correct but you could give it a go:
Try google for:
[How to] Connect your Android Ice Cream Sandwich ... - OMG! Ubuntu!
Maybe you can work with this.

Phone charging but not showing USB storage on OSX

Yesterday after rooting my phone, I accidentally rebooted my phone before unmounting it. Now when I plug it to Mac it only charges. I get no notification on my phone. USB debugging is checked. Also tried different ports on my mac and USB hub. Anyone know what I can do to fix it?

Both. I use Dropsync mainly, which is pretty simple.
Does adb see it? You could use adb push/pull to move files.

You can. You just need a root app that makes your phone show up on your network via samba or something similar.
I just find Dropbox simpler and easier to use. I don't want my phone advertising itself for sharing all the time, so I have to active the app, wait for the phone to show up in Finder, then connect to it with my Mac. Takes less time to just move the files and then run Dropsync.
If I've got big files to move, I just do it via OTG.
Mine works flawlessly on windows and os x...

So I tried on a PC and it doesnt connect to that either. Really think its the phone. Want to use the RUU but once in fastboot it doesnt recognize the USB

So my nexus 5 was working perfect was really happy with it... Rooted and unlocked, but after that I can't get ADB or mass storage... All it does when I plug in to PC is charge... I don't even get the sound on the pc when I plug it in??
Any ideas?

If you are connected via MTP try disabling USB Debug mode (settings >developer options)
Its the only solution I know for my N5

I've tried all that... I don't even get confirmation from windows that something is plugged in... It just charges
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Make sure you do the changes while the phone is not plugged in. Otherwise unplug the phone again and change the USB connection type from MTP to PTP and back again.
If that doesn't work then uninstall the adb files installed on your computer and reinstall them

You don't have the correct drivers installed, Google "Samsung nexus usb drivers" Yea, I know it's not a Samsung device, but they'll work.
It was all working fine before... I had an issue before with drivers but it was easily fixed... I don't even get an adb device in driver list I get no "installing" no beep when I plug it in nothing?? Really strange

try going to Settings>Storage, and tap the menu icon on the top right and check if mtp is on or off
mine was off somehow
No that's not it I've done all that... The only time the PC even acknowledges that its there is if I boot to recovery while plugged in... It freezes the PC up a bit then comes up that its not recognised

I had the same problem, solved by Wug's Nexus Root Toolkit. Just follow the steps.
Your cable seems to be OK, I have a "V" shape too.
Hope it's going to help.
Did you manage to solve this issue? Same thing is happening to me, 3 different computers don't recognize the phone anymore, it only charges via usb.
